MAHARREY: Federal Gov’t Runs Another Deficit, Despite Record Revenue

(Mike Maharrey, Money Metals News Service) The federal government’s budget deficit was “only” $21.93 billion in January. That was a significant improvement over the $129 billion shortfall recorded in December.

But don’t throw the confetti.

The smaller deficit was primarily due to increased government receipts thanks to a big drop in tax refunds. But the Biden administration is still spending like a drunken sailor. (No disrespect to drunken sailors.)

Meanwhile, interest payments on the rapidly ballooning national debt continue to expand at breakneck speed.

Through the first four months of fiscal 2024, the federal government ran a $531.86 trillion deficit, according to the latest Monthly Treasury Statement. That is a 16 percent increase over the same period in fiscal 2023.

These massive monthly budget shortfalls are pushing the national debt higher at a dizzying pace. On December 29, the national debt eclipsed $34 trillion for the first time. When Congress effectively eliminated the debt ceiling on June 5, the national debt stood at a “mere” $31.46 trillion. As of Feb. 9, the national debt stood at $34.2 trillion.

According to the CBO, debt held by the public is projected to balloon from $26.2 trillion to $48.3 trillion by the end of 2034. That would represent 116 percent of GDP and would be the highest level on record.

The U.S. Government Has a Spending Problem

The federal government is a little like a drunk dude up late shopping on Amazon.

The Treasury reported $477.32 billion in receipts last month, a January record. Collection of payroll and income tax withholdings helped boost government revenue. The IRS has also cleared a backlog of delayed income tax filings from the pandemic year.

But even with this revenue windfall, the U.S. government still ran a deficit. That’s because it is addicted to spending money.

In January, the U.S. Biden administration blew through $499.25 billion, also a January record.

Spending was up 2.7 percent over January 2023, even without any one-time outlays. Last year, January spending was boosted by a $36 billion bailout of a Teamsters union pension fund. If you factor out that one-time expense, federal spending rose nearly 11 percent year-on-year.

This underscores the fact that the fundamental issue isn’t that the U.S. government doesn’t have enough money. The fundamental problem is that the U.S. government spends too much money.

Despite the pretend spending cuts, and promises from the Biden administration that it would save “hundreds of billions” the debt ceiling deal (aka the [misnamed] Fiscal Responsibility Act) didn’t address that problem. No matter what you hear about spending cuts, the federal government always finds new reasons to spend more money.

The Interest Rate Problem

These big budget deficits are happening during a time of sharply rising interest rates. This is a big problem for a government that primarily depends on borrowing to pay its bills, and it is likely one of the reasons that the Federal Reserve is talking about rate cuts. The borrow-and-spend U.S. government can’t function in a high interest-rate environment.

The U.S. government spent $69.2 billion on interest expenses alone in January. This was more than the amount spent on national defense ($60 billion) and more than healthcare ($68 billion).

Interest on the federal debt came in $96 billion higher through the first four months of the fiscal year than in the same period last year. The government has shelled out $357 billion on interest payments in fiscal 2023. The only category with higher spending was Social Security.

Net interest expense, excluding intragovernmental transfers to trust funds, was $283 billion through the first four months of the fiscal year, still nearly as much as the government spent on national defense ($298 billion).

And interest expense will only continue to climb.

Much of the debt currently on the books was financed at very low rates before the Federal Reserve started its hiking cycle. Every month, some of that super-low-yielding paper matures and has to be replaced by bonds yielding much higher rates.

The weighted average interest rate on the government’s outstanding Treasury securities rose to 3.21 percent as of the end of January. That compares with a weighted average rate of 2.43 percent in January 2022.

Rising interest rates drove interest payments to over 35 percent as a percentage of total tax receipts in fiscal 2023. In other words, the government is already paying more than a third of the taxes it collects on interest expense.

And it’s only going to get worse unless the Fed quickly ratchets down interest rates.

Interest expense will continue to rise at a rapid rate as more and more Treasuries mature and are replaced by higher-yielding bonds.

The only way out of this fiscal death spiral is significant spending cuts and/or major tax hikes.

I wouldn’t hold my breath.

And I would hold on to my confetti.

Zimbabwe Floats the Idea of Putting Its Currency on a Gold Standard

(Mike Maharrey, Money Metals News Service) Could arguably the world’s worst currency become its best? If Zimbabwe follows through and embraces a plan to back the Zimbabwe dollar with gold, it just might.

Last week, Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa said officials were exploring ways to introduce a “structured currency,” but he didn’t explain what that meant. On Monday (Feb. 12), Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube shed some light on the plan, saying the goal was to “manage the growth of liquidity which has a high correlation to money supply growth and inflation.”

The way to do that is to link the exchange rate to some hard asset such as gold. To do that you have to have some sort of currency board type system in place where the growth of the domestic liquidity is constrained by the value of the asset that is backing the currency.

The Zimbabwe dollar has lost more than 40 percent of its value just since the start of the year.

Consumer prices in Zimbabwe rose 34.8 percent in January on an annual basis. That was up from 26.5 percent in December, according to data released by the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency.

Those numbers don’t reflect the full extent of Zimbabwe’s currency devaluation since about 80 percent of transactions occur in U.S. dollars. The government changed its CPI calculation last fall to better reflect the presence of the dollar in the economy. In other words, it “updated” its inflation formula to hide the extent of the problem. The U.S. government did the same thing in the 1990s.

This isn’t Zimbabwe’s first foray into the world of inflation. As Business Insider Africa put it, “Zimbabwe continues to bear the scars of hyperinflation endured during the extended leadership of Robert Mugabe.”

Hyperinflation wiped out the value of the Zimbabwe dollar in the early 00s. In 2009, the government simply abandoned its own currency and adopted foreign currencies – primarily the U.S. dollar (or, more accurately, the Federal Reserve Note).

The African nation reintroduced the Zimbabwe dollar in 2019. But the government apparently didn’t learn its lessons and the currency quickly devalued again. By mid-July 2019, price inflation had increased to 175 percent.

As economist Milton Friedman once said, “Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon, in the sense that it is and can be produced only by a more rapid increase in the quantity of money than in output.”

In other words, if a country is experiencing price inflation and currency devaluation, it is ultimately the government’s fault. Price inflation is a symptom of monetary inflation – government creating more and more currency to prop up spending.

During Zimbabwe’s first round of hyperinflation, the government was printing money to finance Mugabe’s military involvement in the Congo. It was also allegedly creating currency to pay for government corruption and to fill the pockets of politicians and their buddies.

More recently, Al Jazeera reported, “The printing of new money by the central bank has also worsened the situation, reversing gains made in the past two years that saw inflation decrease from a peak of 800 percent in 2020 to 60 percent in January [2023].”

The Zimbabwe government has already taken some steps attempting to stabilize its currency and limit its dependence on the Federal Reserve note dollar.

Last summer, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor John Mangudya announced Fidelity Gold Refineries (Private) Limited would mint gold coins and make them available to the public through the country’s banking institutions.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) resolved to introduce gold coins into the market as an instrument that will enable investors to store value.

The central bank owns Fidelity Gold Refineries (Private) Limited. It operates as the only gold-buying and refining entity in the southern African country.

In October, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe launched a digital payment system backed by physical gold.

The digital tokens called Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) can be stored in a digital e-gold wallet or on e-gold cards. An equivalent amount of physical gold held in the RBZ’s reserves backs each digital token. Individuals and businesses can use ZiG in business transactions and can share the gold-backed tokens peer-to-peer. In practice, this gold-backed digital currency makes it possible to do everyday business in gold.

The hope was this gold-backed payment system would ease the pressure on the country’s limited supply of dollars (and create of flow of dollars into government vaults.)

Putting the Zimbabwe dollar on a gold standard would slam the door on the Zimbabwe government’s inflationary policies. Backing currency with a hard asset limits money creation. The government can’t create more dollars unless it gets more gold. A gold standard puts a natural brake on monetary expansion.

This would benefit Zimbabweans who would enjoy a stable currency and could maintain their purchasing power over time.

Of course, that requires fiscal discipline on the part of the government. It can’t rely on money printing to support its spending. Therein lies the rub. Government people tend to quickly abandon any pretense of linking the currency to gold when they discover it puts the kibosh on expanding their power.

With this in mind, I’m skeptical that Zimbabwe will follow through with reforms. As Money Metals Exchange President Stefan Gleason put it, “Sadly, total catastrophe may be the most likely path to reform. The only danger is that with the wrong people in place, the catastrophe could lead to a lurch towards tyranny.”

Report: Bomb-Sniffing Dog Searched Near DNC Pipe Bomb on Jan. 6

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) For more than three years, skeptical observers have wondered how pipe bombs could have sat outside the Republican and Democratic National Committee headquarters for more than 12 hours before being discovered the afternoon of Jan. 6, 2021.

And now, newly released surveillance footage adds to those questions. Reporter Julie Kelly published surveillance footage Monday that appears to show a bomb-sniffing dog checking a vehicle entering the DNC around 9:50 a.m.

“The occupant or occupants of the vehicle are unknown; other cars that entered the garage before this vehicle that morning were not subjected to the same search,” Kelly said.

Kelly also noted that Vice President-elect Kamala Harris arrived at the DNC about 90 minutes later.

“Harris has never explained why she, as the incoming vice president and sitting U.S. Senator involved in the certification proceedings that day, left the Capitol following a briefing of the Senate Intelligence Committee at 10:00 a.m. and went to the DNC a few blocks away,” Kelly said.

“It is unclear why Secret Service apparently did not conduct a sweep of the premises before her arrival.”

Kelly’s reporting raises the question: How could the dog have missed the nearby pipe bomb, which wasn’t discovered until a plainclothes Capitol Police officer found it around 2 p.m.—right as the protest was turning into a riot at Capitol Hill.

Former FBI agent Kyle Seraphin has alleged that the pipe bombs were built with inert material, which would explain why a dog wouldn’t necessarily find it. But as Kelly noted, FBI officials continue to insist that the bombs had legitimately explosive material.

“According to the FBI’s bulletin about the pipe bomber, the devices contained ‘homemade black powder,’” she wrote Monday. Bomb-sniffing dogs are trained to detect numerous types of chemicals associated with explosive devices including black smokeless powders. Top FBI officials insisted the pipe bombs found at the RNC and DNC were legit. “

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., the timing of the DNC pipe bomb discovery is suspicious. The representative suggested that the pipe bombs placed outside the DNC and RNC were distractions to divert law enforcement away from the Capitol, right around the time as the election protests were about to become violent.

“It was specifically at the same precise time to cause maximum distraction from the events going on at the Capitol,” he said at a congressional hearing last July. “It appears to me that that wasn’t a coincidence.”

Lara Trump, Michael Whatley Gain Trump’s Backing for Major RNC Roles

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Republican powerhouse Donald Trump is planning on throwing his weight behind North Carolina GOP Chair Michael Whatley for the position of Republican National Committee chair, with Lara Trump as the co-chair, according to multiple reports on Monday.

These new endorsements confirm earlier reports of RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel stepping down from her leadership role after the South Carolina primary on Feb. 24.

Lara Trump, known for her role as a political commentator and surrogate for the Trump campaign, and Whatley, a close Trump ally, are now the frontrunners for the RNC leadership roles.

This strategic move is expected to solidify Trump’s influence as the de facto leader of the party in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election.

While Trump’s endorsements carry weight, both Lara Trump and Whatley will need to formally run for the positions, subject to the votes of the existing RNC members.

If successful, Lara Trump and Whatley intend to appoint Trump senior advisor Chris LaCivita as the RNC chief operating officer. LaCivita will maintain his leadership role at the Trump campaign.

Trump emphasized the imperative role of the RNC in the upcoming presidential election in statements.

“The RNC MUST be a good partner in the Presidential election. It must do the work we expect from the national Party and do it flawlessly,” Trump declared, according to Axios.

“This group of three is highly talented, battle-tested, and smart. They have my complete and total endorsement to lead the Republican National Committee. Every penny will be used properly. New Day,” he added, as reported by the outlet.

The RNC changes followed McDaniel’s unsuccessful attempts to counter social media criticism stemming from the GOP’s losses in the 2020 presidential election and the 2018 and 2020 midterm elections.

McDaniel has brushed aside the criticism as social media chatter, emphasizing her focus on winning the 2024 presidential election. However, Trump appeared to have a different strategy, initiating criticism after securing his role as the presumed Republican nominee for president.

“Ronna is now Head of the RNC, and I’ll be making a decision the day after the South Carolina Primary as to my recommendations for RNC Growth,” the former president and 2024 GOP frontrunner posted on Truth Social.

Biden Joins TikTok, Despite Platform Being Banned in White House

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) The Biden campaign informed the public about its new TikTok account on Feb. 11, 2024, despite previously banning the use of the app in federal buildings.

The reason for the ban of the Chinese app in federal buildings was that the company that created TikTok was leaking the information to the communist regime, allowing it to “control data collection on millions of users,” according to Blaze Media.

“Hey, by the way, we just joined TikTok,” the Biden campaign wrote.

In the post, the administration linked to the newly created TikTok account, which presently hosts a Super Bowl-themed interview video of Biden captioned, “lol hey guys.”

The Biden campaign said that the creation of the new account is “part of an effort to meet voters where they are.”

Despite the creation of the new social media account, back in December 2022, Biden ratified a spending bill that banned the use of TikTok by millions of federal employees.

People criticized the recent decision by the administration that would risk additional exposure to one of the biggest enemies of the United States, just so that Biden would try to get more voters at the end of 2024.

“Biden campaign bragging about using a Chinese spy app even though Biden signed a law banning it on all federal devices,” Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., wrote.

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., also responded to the recent news.

“Panic is when the Biden campaign joins TikTok after the White House banned the app from devices a year ago,” he wrote.

Gov. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., said that, despite doing many “dumb” things, he managed to do something that is even “dumber.”

“Hey @joebiden, you’ve done a lot of dumb things over the last 3 years. Handing your data over to China may be the dumbest,” she wrote.

Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-Fla., said that he wasn’t surprised when he heard the news.

“Not surprised President Biden has just joined #TikTok — a company that steals our private information & hands it over to the Communist Party of #China. Biden plays for #TeamCCP, not #TeamUSA,” he wrote.

Super Bowl Ad Mocks, Perverts Christianity, Receives Pushback

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) He Gets Us, an organization that pretends to spread Christian values while promoting far-left rhetoric, released its Super Bowl commercial, in which it showed that Christians should wash the feet of sinners, for which the organization received pushback.

Among the people whose feet Christians should wash, according to the far-left company, are women who want to murder their unborn children, alcoholics, “climate change” activists, illegal aliens, black people who support the Marxist organization BLM, homosexuals and many more.

“Jesus washed the feet of friends and enemies. No ego or hate. He humbly loved his neighbors. How can we do the same?” He Gets Us wrote in its Twitter post, in which it attached the ad itself.

Christians and conservatives responded to the blatant propaganda from the far-left, Christian-pretending organization.

“A white person washing feet at an abortion clinic, funded by Christians This is what infiltration of Western Christianity looks like,” senior editor at Human Events Jack Posobiec wrote.

In addition to that post, Posobiec posted the quote from St. Augustine, which predicted the current “wolf in a sheep’s clothing” behavior by leftists.

“The heretics lie in wait, hidden in the cloak of the Christian name,” the quote said.

Another conservative personality, Ian Miles Cheong, also responded to the ad.

“Whoever made this ad asked AI to be as woke and insulting as possible to Christians and this is the result,” he wrote.

A Catholic Twitter account that is dedicated to praying the rosary and is run by actual Christians dismissed the deceptive messaging while reminding people about what the Bible actually said.

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Cor 6:9-10,” the person behind the account wrote.

Many other people responded to the blatantly anti-Christian commercial as well, pointing out that the ad is Satanic and blasphemous.

“Each slide contains a Left-wing talking point, and the imagery is used to make [leftists] look superior and us to be their humble slaves. It’s humiliation porn for Libs. All of this imagery is a not-so-subtle attack on Conservative Americans. The commercial has nothing to do with Jesus, and is essentially an excuse to tell Conservatives that they are lesser than, and must kneel at the feet of the Liberals and their ideology,” one person wrote.

House GOP Demands Transcript of Biden’s Interview w/ Special Counsel

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) House Republicans on Monday called on the DOJ to release the transcripts and recordings of President Joe Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur.

In a letter addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland, House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky.; House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio; and House Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., highlighted the existence of a transcript and audio recording of Biden’s interview and demanded their full disclosure.

“Throughout Mr. Hur’s report, there is reference to a transcript of an interview conducted with President Biden on October 8 and October 9, 2023,” the three lawmakers wrote. “The Committees require this transcript and any other records of this interview, including, but not limited to, any recordings, notes, or summaries of the interview.”

Among the requested documents are audio and video recordings of the interview with Biden and his ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer. The lawmakers also requested communication between individuals from the DOJ, the Office of Special Counsel, the White House and Biden’s personal attorneys.

The lawmakers set a deadline for the DOJ until Feb. 19, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. “Americans deserve transparency about President Biden’s mental state and his mishandling of classified documents,” the House Oversight Committee wrote on Twitter.

The Hur report sent shockwaves through the White House, revealing that Hur opted not to advise the DOJ to prosecute the president, even though he was no longer in office. The decision was particularly based on a specific mention of Biden’s poor memory.

One of the reasons provided for the decision against recommending charges was the hypothetical scenario in which Biden might have portrayed himself as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory” during a trial.

Hur concluded that a jury would not have found Biden guilty of crimes related to this possession of classified documents.

Alyssa Milano Takes Son to Super Bowl after Crowdfunding His Baseball Fees

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Actress and left-wing provocateur Alyssa Milano shared a photograph at Sunday’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas, just weeks after facing backlash for asking the public’s help to fund her son’s baseball team, the Daily Mail reported.

The Poison Ivy II star posted an Instagram pre-game photo of herself with her 12-year-old son, Milo Thomas Bugliari, near the field.

A post shared by Alyssa Milano (@milano_alyssa)

Some social-media users were quick to point out the tone-deaf hypocrisy of flaunting her wealth.

“So you have money to take your kid to the Super Bowl but want other people to donate to your son’s baseball team?” one Instagram user wrote.

Another user said that he was “surprised” that Milano “didn’t ask people to donate for your Super Bowl trip,” proceeding to call her a “rich beggar.”

According to reports, Milano was there as part of a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, meaning that people were, in fact, asked to donate for her trip, with one sweepstakes winner being given the opportunity to meet the ex-sitcom star herself.

Unfortunately for cancer patients, the promotion itself may have cost a pretty penny.

At face value, Super Bowl tickets ranged from $950-$9,500 this year, but according to Business Insider, the cheapest tickets available for the game ran roughly around $5,700 apiece.

Based on the location of the photograph, however, it was likely that Milano’s seats cost significantly more, with the upper limit for tickets listed at just under $200,000.

Even a small tray of nachos at the event was going for nearly $60.

Milano–whose net worth is an estimated $10 million–recently received criticism for her “BIRDS 12U Travel Fund” GoFundMe page, which purportedly was for raising money to pay for her son to play travel baseball.

“My son’s baseball team is raising money for their Cooperstown trip,” she wrote on the GoFundMe page, using her married surname, Bugliari, instead of her professional name. “Any amount would be so greatly appreciated.”

After word of the fundraiser spread, the outspoken celebrity activist, who became a prominent voice in the #MeToo movement, was sharply criticized by critics and fans alike.

In response to the online humiliation, she claimed that she “cannot afford” to pay for her son’s baseball team.

“Maybe someday,” she continued. “Also, if I did pay for everyone – my trolls would find something else to be hurtful about.”

Illegal Alien Unveils ‘Much Bigger’ Network of NYC Moped Gang

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The accused leader of a moped gang of illegal aliens committing rampant crimes in New York City revealed that the crew is “much bigger than” him, the New York Post reported.

Venezuela-native Franco Alexander Peraza Navas, currently in NYPD custody, told investigators that he never expected to be captured and hinted at a potentially widespread web of individuals.

“It’s much bigger than me,” Peraza Navas allegedly revealed in statements to the NYPD. “In a million years, I never thought you’d catch me. I’ve been going to Miami every three weeks. And it’s much bigger than me.”

Law enforcement sources linked the illegal alien to alleged robberies rocking New York City, Yonkers (Upstate, New York), New Jersey and Florida. Peraza Navas is also associated with a gun purchased illegally during a Dec. 9 armed heist in Florida, as reported by the NY Post.

Strikingly, Peraza Navas and his accomplices allegedly used the same gun just days prior—on Nov. 22—for a robbery at a jewelry store in Manhattan.

If those alleged incidents weren’t enough, Peraza Navas, along with other accomplices, is linked to other purported crimes, including a Nov. 18 Bronx shootout, a Bergen County (New Jersey) robbery and a Dec. 17 shoplifting at a Macy’s store.

A police source described Peraza Navas as being “nasty as they come.”

This revelation comes less than a week after NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell appeared to call out the role of Venezuelan nationals, attributing to the uptick in crimes in the city.

“There’s some Venezuelan groups, groups of migrants—I say some, not all—that are affecting crime on our city more so now than when they first got here,” Chell said at a press conference regarding an unrelated alleged attempted murder incident by 15-year-old Jesus Alejandro Rivas-Figueroa, also a Venezuelan national.

According to the NYPD, Rivas-Figueroa was caught shoplifting at JD Sports in Times Square, Manhattan before taking a gun and shooting a nearby Brazilian tourist. He fled the scene and fired his gun again at officers chasing him down a train station.

Just a week earlier, several Venezuelan nationals were caught on footage reportedly brutally beating two NYPD cops who were responding to a disturbance complaint, also in Times Square. Seven individuals were indicted because of the beating.

Notably, Times Square, known for its tourist attractions and lavish hotels, has been plagued by illegal aliens residing in taxpayer-funded hotels.

Fulton Judge to Hear Evidence on Fani Willis’s Affair after Witness Says She Lied

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee said Monday that he would proceed with a hearing about District Attorney Fani Willis’s relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, casting doubt that the trial against former President Donald Trump and 14 others related to their efforts to challenge the 2020 election will proceed as planned.

“It’s clear that disqualification can occur if evidence is produced demonstrating an actual conflict or the appearance of one,” McAfee said, according to the New York Times.

“Because I think it’s possible that the facts alleged by the defendant could result in disqualification, I think an evidentiary hearing must occur to establish the record on those core allegations,” he added.

McAfee’s ruling followed another bombshell filing late Friday from Mike Roman, a co-defendant in the case against Trump whose legal team had initially revealed the relationship between Willis and Wade.

The most recent filing alleged that Willis had lied previously about the length of her affair with Wade, the New York Post reported.

The affidavit contained a statement from Wade’s former law partner, Terrence Bradley, alleging that the relationship began in January 2021.

Willis previously stated that she and Wade struck up the relationship in 2022, after Wade accepted the special prosecutor’s position.

“Bradley can confirm that Willis contracted with Wade after Wade and Willis began a romantic relationship, thus rebutting Wade’s claim in his affidavit that they did not start dating until 2022,” the document said.

If true, the discovery would prove a serious ethical violation for both lawyers.

Willis, Wade, Bradley and several others, are expected to testify under oath at a Feb 15 hearing, unless previously submitted subpoenas release them from the obligation.

The filing from Roman’s lawyers also included additional details about the couple’s exorbitant vacations, with new evidence of a trip to Belize and two cruises to the Bahamas.

“When the lines get blurred between a prosecutor’s interest in her personal fame and publicity and her public duty, the system breaks down, as does the public’s confidence in the process itself, which threatens to undermine the public’s confidence in the outcome,”  the filing said.

Willis also faces investigations from the Fulton County commissioner and a bipartisan Senate committee. The State Bar of Georgia may also launch an investigation into her suspected ethics violations.

The House Judiciary Committee also issued Willis a subpoena last week seeking documents tied to her use of federal funds, which U.S. Marshals were forced to hand-deliver after she refused to accept an emailed version.

Wade is currently working through divorce proceedings with his wife, Joycelyn, as well.

Joycelyn accused her husband of concealing his Fulton County income from her and demanded financial support. Willis resisted a subpoena for her case.
