Calif. Mayor’s Security Beaten Mid-Interview: ‘Do You Wanna Get Smacked?’

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) All attention turned to a Democratic mayor from California after one of his armed bodyguards was brutally beaten by a bystander during a live interview with a news outlet.

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, a Democrat, was downtown for the opening of a restaurant when he was interviewed by KRON4, a television station in the San Francisco Bay Area.

During the interview, conducted on Tuesday, a bystander seemingly walked by, making explicit remarks. At this point, the mayor and the unnamed bodyguard informed the man that he was conducting an interview.

“Mind your f**king business,” the pedestrian told the security guard, a member of the San Jose Police Department.

“I was going to do what the f**k I was going to do right before you walked up to me,” the bystander retorted to the officer, who had advised him to keep quiet.

As depicted in video footage released by KRON4, the pedestrian mentioned he worked for a nearby company before becoming increasingly agitated and threatening to “smack” the officer.

“Do you wanna get smacked?” the pedestrian challenged.

Shortly thereafter, the altercation escalated, with the pedestrian slapping the officer across the face.

The men engaged in a physical altercation, exchanging punches for nearly three minutes before members of the San Jose Police Department intervened, instructing the pedestrian to “let go.”

The security detail was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for head and neck pain, according to KRON4.

The pedestrian was subsequently booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

Neither the SJPD headquarters nor its media relations department responded to phone calls made by Headline USA to confirm whether the officer had been released from the hospital. Similarly, the county jail did not respond to Headline USA’s inquiries.

This incident comes at a time when Californians are increasingly worried about their safety, polls suggest.

Over the weekend, a man allegedly broke into the official residence of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. The suspect, identified as Ephraim Matthew Hunter, was booked on burglary charges.

Parents React to Hamas Video of American Hostage w/ Missing Arm

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The Gaza-based Hamas terror group has released a propaganda video featuring a young Israeli American citizen whose brutal kidnapping sent chills down American spines.

The hostage seen in the video is 23-year-old Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who was brutally abducted by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7 from the Supernova rave.

The propaganda video confirms that Goldberg-Polin is missing one of his arms, presumably due to blasts on the horrific day when roughly 1,200 individuals died, many others were injured and several women were raped.

In the video, a visibly distraught Goldberg-Polin identified himself and stated that Hamas had held him hostage for “nearly 200 days.” This statement, according to the Times of Israel, suggests that the video was recorded recently and that he remains alive.

[Caution: Graphic descriptions and video below; viewer discretion advised for potentially upsetting content]

Goldberg-Polin’s kidnapping captured the attention of concerned Americans as he was seen being aided into a van, with the bone of his left limb visibly exposed. He was subsequently transported into the Gaza Strip, where he remains held hostage.

“As horrible as it is as a parent to your kid under gunpoint, with one arm … the composure with which he’s walking on his own legs, pulling himself with his one weak hand onto the truck, gave me a real dose of strength,” said Rachel Goldberg, the young man’s mother, in an October interview with CNN.

In response to the new Hamas-produced video, Goldberg, along with her husband, Jon Polin, expressed their overwhelming emotions.

“We are relieved to see him alive but we are also concerned about his health and wellbeing as well as that of all the other hostages and all of those suffering in this region,” Polin said in a video statement.

He added, “We are here today with a plea to all of the leaders of the parties who have been negotiating to date. This includes Qatar, Egypt, the United States, Hamas and Israel: be brave, lean in, seize this moment and get a deal done to reunite all of us with our loved ones and end the suffering in this region.”

Seconds later, Goldberg stepped in to issue a heartfelt message to her son: “Hersh, we heard your voice today for the first time in 201 days and if you can hear us, we are telling you, we love you, stay strong, survive.”

Shortly after Goldberg-Polin was abducted to Gaza, his mother participated in a press conference with other Israeli-American victims, sharing what they knew at the time.

“Unfortunately, what we heard about Hersh [from eyewitnesses] is that his arm was blown off from his elbow down,” Goldberg told the media during a press conference. “He tourniqueted his own arm.”

Before falling victim to Hamas, Goldberg-Polin had sent text messages to his mother, saying, “I love you,” and “I’m sorry.”

Conspiracy Confirmed: Top NeverTrumpers Host Regular Call to Coordinate Strategies

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Prominent opponents of former President Donald Trump host regular Friday group Zoom calls to discuss and coordinate their NeverTrump strategies, Politico reported.

The report suggested that many of the nation’s top legal experts and political commentators routinely host a teleconference, which they refer to as a “digital salon,” to exchange political gossip and ensure a unified anti-Trump strategy.

The group was reportedly started by Norm Eisen—the former Trump impeachment lawyer and ironically titled “ethics czar” for the Obama administration, given his utter dearth of nonpartisan scruples.

The salon picked up momentum in the aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021, protest at the U.S. Capitol—helping to ensure that the corporate media stayed on message about how it was framing the psy-op event, which otherwise might have been seen as far tamer than the “mostly peaceful” race riots that the public had witnessed from left-wing activists in the months prior.

About a dozen people—including top progressive ideologues, conservative but anti-Trump legal scholars and prominent legacy media pundits—may join the call on any given Friday, although they are entirely off-the-record.

“It feels almost like a seminar in law school,” one anonymous participant told Politico, but “with a distinct anti-Trump tilt to it.”

Members include ex-conservative commentator Bill Kristol, who formally announced his switch to the Democrats in 2020; and Harvard Law professor Laurence Tribe, one of former President Barack Obama’s mentors.

Another ex-conservative, Trump-spurned Lincoln Project cofounder George Conway, has also reportedly made appearances, along with Jeffrey Toobin, the former CNN legal analyst and Zoom persona non grata.

The group also routinely features special guests, the list of which includes:

Even the normally left-of-center Politico derisively called the group a symptom of today’s “Trump-media-legal-industrial complex.”

The existence of the group also confirmed what Trump himself seems to have long suspected: that there is an organized group of elites working actively against him, even using the legal system as a weapon against his campaign.

It called to mind Molly Ball’s notorious 2021 article in Time magazine, in which she gloated about the undemocratic cabal of special interests that had conspired to suppress valid information, push disinformation, foment civil disorder and manipulate the outcome of the 2020 election in favor of Joe Biden.

Some within the group have likewise recognized that their gatherings confirm what has mostly been theoretical up to now.

“It runs the risk of creating the impression that there is an agreement or cooperation or conspiracy across mainstream media entities,” one anonymous attendee said, adding that the calls could “feed into some false and damaging perceptions, particularly on the right.”

Biden Delivers Gaffe-Laden Speech as He Reads Out ‘Pause’ Instructions

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) President Joe Biden once again found himself inadvertently reading out the customary instructions seen on teleprompters or speech outlines during addresses or similar events.

This incident occurred during Biden’s speech to members of the North America’s Building Trades Union on Wednesday, where he included a “pause” directive as part of his official remarks.

“Four more years,” Biden claimed, before adding: “Pause.”

Seemingly unaware of Biden’s verbal mishap, union members erupted into chants of “Four more years! Four more years!” in reference to his sinking re-election campaign for the 2024 presidential election.

Biden’s slip-up, initially reported by the New York Post, was not the sole verbal blunder marring his address to the union members.

As seen in video shared online, Biden posed a rather confusing questions to the union workers. Repeating a previous gaffe, Biden questioned, “Are you ready to choose freedom over democracy?”

According to the Post, Biden recounted an unverified story about former President Donald Trump gifting him a pair of boots.

“The guy has never worked a day in the working man’s boots,” Biden claimed, alluding to Trump. “By the way, he gave me a pair of boots as a gift, by the way.”

Expanding on the potentially fabricated anecdote, he added, “I know how to put them on. I still sometimes cut the yard. But the Secret Service doesn’t let me do it anymore.”

Later in his speech, Biden insinuated that Trump “looks down on us,” aligning himself with union workers. However, Biden is far from an average American, boasting a $10 million fortune, according to Forbes.

Additionally, Biden has often frequented the multi-million-dollar mansions and compounds of some of his friends and donors.

Adding another gaffe to his speech, Biden falsely stated he “cut the national debt so far.” Yet, this assertion is demonstrably false, as the national debt has ballooned to $5.7 trillion in less than three years of his administration.

The gaffe-prone president may have been referring to the budget deficit, which was reduced by $1.7 trillion during his initial two fiscal years in office.

Despite the cut, the Biden-ed Department of Treasury has been borrowing at an annual rate of $3 trillion—nearly double the initially projected amount, according to the Heritage Foundation earlier this month.

Chris Christie Says He Fears Trump ‘Vendetta’ If Former President Returns to White House

(Headline USA) After taking a calculated risk in crossing former President Donald Trump to gain the favor of leftist media outlets while attempting to rebrand himself as a Republican alternative, ex-New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie now claims to fear reprisal if Trump is reelected in November.

Christie was one of the first high-profile Republucan officials to endorse Trump in 2016, and he was rewarded for his patronage with an offer to chair Trump’s transition committee—a move that the president likely came to regret as his White House team was staffed with disloyal seditionists who undermined his every move.

After being frozen out of a Cabinet position, Christie subsequently denounced Trump midway through his first term, while eyeing the opportunity to run against him in 2024.

However, like other GOP primary contenders, Christie appears to have miscalculated voters’ unwavering support for the defacto party leader, who coasted to his third consecutive victory as the presumptive presidential nominee.

Christie said his biggest fear is that Trump will go after those who opposed him and that no one will be able to stop him.

“There’ll be no one around to put guardrails up, and he will be on the vendetta tour against all enemies that he perceives,” Christie told the Washington Post. “And that’s a scary thing for the country.”

That’s one of the reasons Christie has refused to endorse Trump since dropping out of the race, he admitted.

However, despite his “fear” of Trump, Christie said he will not endorse or vote for President Joe Biden.

“President Biden, in my view, is past the sell-by date. Seriously, look at him. If the American people are stupid enough to nominate these two guys, doesn’t mean I have to be stupid, too,” he said.

Christie also admitted Biden hasn’t called to ask him for his support.

“It’s pretty stupid for him not to,” he claimed.

Last month, the failed Republican candidate ruled out running his own third-party bid for the presidency, acknowledging that his return to the race would likely “help Donald Trump become president again.”

He also admitted to the Post that he didn’t pursue the option because he recognized it wasn’t viable.

“Nobody that we put up, including me, got higher than 17% [in the GOP primary],” he said.

“So what happens is [voters] love the idea of someone other than Trump or Biden, but then … once you [put forward an alternative], they don’t want to hear it,”  he added. “We looked at it pretty closely. There was no path to winning.”

Stefanik Calls on Biden Admin to Defund Columbia over Anti-Semitic Campus Protests

(Headline USA) Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., called on the Biden administration this week to revoke federal funding from Columbia University over the school’s response to disruptive anti-Israel protests on campus.

In a letter to top Biden officials, including Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, Attorney General Merrick Garland and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Stefanik argued the school—and specifically Columbia President Nemat “Minouche” Shafik—had repeatedly violated the Civil Rights Act by failing to shut down the anti-Israel protests and protect Jewish students.

“The ongoing situation that has unfolded is systemic of Columbia University leadership’s failures to address ongoing antisemitism, failure to enforce campus policies, and failure to fulfill her responsibilities under federal law,” she wrote.

“Due to her lack of action, President [Minouche] Shafik has ceded control of campus and is failing to provide the equal protections guaranteed for students under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964,” Stefanik continued. “By knowingly allowing this to continue, Columbia University is complicit in this violation.”

There is “clear and convincing” evidence that Jewish students attending Columbia have been targeted and discriminated against by anti-Israel protesters, the congresswoman argued.

She cited an announcement from last November that the Education Department would be investigating Columbia, along with seven other schools, over alleged incidents of anti-Semitism.

“It is past time for the Department of Education to publish the findings,” Stefanik said. “Furthermore, the Department must take action to revoke any federal funding flowing to Columbia and similar institutions so taxpayers are not funding the ongoing discrimination.”

Stefanik was one of several congressional Republicans who grilled Shafik over her handling of anti-Semitism on campus during a congressional hearing last week. She accused Shafik of giving into student-orchestrated “anarchy” instead of punishing the disruptive protesters.

The protests on Columbia’s campus have resulted in more than 100 arrests in the past week.

Biden Admits He ‘Can’t Be Trusted’ In Latest Gaffe

(Headline USA) In President Joe Biden’s latest gaffe, the 81-year-old admitted he “can’t be trusted.”

Speaking at a campaign rally in Tampa, Florida, on Tuesday, Biden made several references to his opponent, former President Donald Trump. At one point, Biden mistakenly included himself in one of his insults aimed at Trump.

“I don’t know why we’re surprised by Trump,” Biden said. “How many times does he have to prove we can’t be trusted?”

Video footage of Biden’s speech shows audience members laughing awkwardly after the comment. But Biden carried on, seemingly not noticing his mistake, according to the New York Post.

Conservatives argued the gaffe was more like an admission of truth.

“Well even a blind squirrel finds a nut,” conservative commentator Tomi Lahren tweeted.

Invoking a famous line from Oprah Winfrey in a 1997 interview with author Maya Angelou, RedState columnist Buzz Patterson agreed: “If they tell you who they are, believe them.”

The Trump campaign also weighed in, with senior adviser Chris LaCivita focusing on the constant mistakes and blunders Biden makes on the campaign trail.

“You’ll see this again and again and again…” LaCivita wrote.

Just last week, Biden made another public error when he confused the Israeli port city of Haifa with Rafah, one of the cities in the Gaza Strip.

“I’ve been meeting with them, No. 1,” Biden said, referring to Israeli officials. “No. 2, I made it clear that we have to vastly increase the amount of food, water, healthcare going into Gaza. And I made it clear to Israelis: Don’t move on Haifa.”

Also last week, Biden made a confusing statement urging people to “choose freedom over democracy.”

Speaking at a political rally alongside half a dozen Kennedy family members, Biden remarked, “Are you ready to choose unity over division? Dignity over demolition? Truth over lies? Are you ready to choose freedom over democracy? Because that’s America.”

Tucker Carlson’s Final Fox News Monologue Revealed

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Exactly one year ago, Fox News pulled Tucker Carlson’s nightly show from the air.

Since then, speculation has spread over why Carlson left the news network. Was it his opposition to Biden’s proxy war in Ukraine? Or perhaps his vaccine skepticism? Or was it his opposition to investment firm Blackrock, which owns a stake in Fox?

While all those reasons may have been contributing factors to his departure, Carlson’s final monologue, which was set to air on April 24, 2023, focused on the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill uprising. According to his biographer, Chadwick Moore, Carlson’s monologue previewed an interview with former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund.

“In that interview, which Fox owns and refused to air, Sund revealed federal law enforcement and Democratic members of Congress were aware of impending violence during the January 6 election integrity protests but vetoed assistance to cops on the ground,” Moore said Wednesday on his Substack page.

“More chilling, and perhaps darkly ironic, Carlson planned to discuss members of the government lobbying to have his show taken off the air. And he also wanted to talk about Ukraine.”

Indeed, the monologue posted by Moore shows that Carlson discussed Jan. 6 provocateur Ray Epps—the man who received probation even though the Justice Department described his conduct, which included encouraging other protestors to storm the Capitol, as “felonious.”

Carlson also called out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes, D-NY, for pushing to have him cancelled.

“She’s demanding that our show be canceled because the things we’re saying are quote, ‘very clearly an incitement to violence.’ Is this true? Even accounting for the fact that people tend to hear what they want to hear, it is not true,” he said.

“It’s a lie, as anyone who watches this show knows. We are opposed to violence, not just philosophically but in practical terms.”

Fox still has yet to provide an official reason for removing Carlson from the air.

Carlson, for his part, told Moore the following eight days after he was fired, according to Moore:  “Of course, the answer may just be that if enough people call for you to be canceled, ultimately you will be. The reaction was very bipartisan.

“The Pentagon celebrated when we got canceled. Republican leadership was pretty excited. Democrats were thrilled. I think if you don’t have a really obvious team with power behind you, you get crushed, and that’s probably what happened. But I don’t know, there may be other reasons.”

U.Va. Gives Mixed Messages on Revoking Degree of Cheating DEI Grad

(Ben Sellers, Headline USA) After news broke of a major plagiarism incident that threatened to undermine the University of Virginia’s once vaunted Honor Code, school representatives offered mixed messages to media outlets as to whether they intended to pursue the matter, including the possible revocation of a doctoral degree.

In a bombshell report published Monday by the Daily Wire, investigative journalists Chris Rufo and Luke Rosiak revealed that Natalie J. Perry—a top official for diversity, equity and inclusion at the University of California, Los Angeles medical school—had plagiarized significant portions of her 2014 doctoral dissertation while attending U.Va.

“An analysis of the paper found it ridden with the worst sort of plagiarism, reproducing large swaths of text directly from several other authors, without citations,” they wrote. “The scale of the plagiarism suggests that Perry lacks both ethics and competence and raises questions about academic programs that push DEI.”

According to U.Va.’s Jefferson Council, a conservative alumni group, university spokesman Brian Coy issued a statement saying that the school was investigating the matter and was seriously considering the possibility of revoking Perry’s Ph.D.

“The University takes concerns about research integrity seriously. We are aware of these allegations from 2014 and we are initiating an investigation according to our process,” Coy said. “While federal student privacy laws prohibit us from commenting on any specific case, the University does have the ability to revoke degrees in cases where plagiarism or other qualifying forms of misconduct are identified and proven.”

However, a separate email received by Headline USA revealed that any action was not coming directly from the school’s student-run honor council, which claimed it only had purview over offenses that had happened since 2022.

“Unfortunately, this case does not fall within Honor’s statute of limitations, as reports must be filed within two years of the alleged Act,” said second-year student Seamus Oliver (he/him), the Honor Council’s vice chair for investigations. “We are not able to accept this report.”

The school first implemented its honor pledge in 1842, 17 years after its founding by former President Thomas Jefferson.

For 181 years, it was a sacred part of the school’s tradition, putting U.Va. on a distinctive continuum that separated it from schools of a lower pedigree and made it a beacon for others to follow. Violations of moral turpitude for offenses of lying, cheating and stealing faced a single sanction: expulsion.

However, critics in the modern era complained that it was a “nightmare for due process.”

Under the stewardship of school president Jim Ryan, a woke acolyte of Barack Obama, the school formally dispatched with its single-sanction honor-code last year and replaced it with a watered-down nominal version that effectively mirrored the current two-tiered justice system.

“Our concern is that it has changed way too much, and it’s collapsing and becoming meaningless,” said Jefferson Council Executive Director James A. Bacon, according to the Charlottesville Daily Progress.

As the case of Ms. Perry showed, however, it may have become meaningless in practice long before that change was formally codified, as programs like DEI dominated the school’s dogma and directly conflicted with the racist demand that students abstain from lying, cheating and stealing at penalty of exile.

U.Va.’s latest fall from grace follows the high-profile resignation of Harvard University president Claudine Gay over revelations of plagiarism that also were first reported by Rufo.

Ryan, the current U.Va. president, previously served as dean of Harvard’s education school and touted his plans to turn the remake the school in Harvard’s image when he took over in 2018 as it reeled from the shock of the previous year’s riot.

Ironically, the anti-Semitism that was widely condemned when “white supremacist” protesters marched up the steps of the school’s iconic Rotunda chanting “Jews will not replace us” has been embraced by the Left and is now vigorously defended on college campuses including Harvard and Columbia University in the context of pro-Palestinian riots.

U.Va. faced criticism also, less than a week after Hamas’s Oct. 7 massacre in Israel, when a professor reportedly offered extra credit for students to attend an anti-Israel rally, triggering an investigation from state Attorney General Jason Miyares.

EDITOR’S NOTE: In the interest of full disclosure, I was personally involved in this case, reaching out both to the U.Va. Honor Council and to the staff of the school’s Jeffersonian newspaper after the story broke in the Daily Wire. I identified myself both as a journalist and a concerned alumnus.

J6er Still Faces Punishment for Going on Tucker Carlson’s Show

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Last year, U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton ordered that the government monitor the social media for “disinformation” from Jan. 6 protestor Daniel Goodwyn, who pled guilty in January 2023 to one misdemeanor count of entering the Capitol unlawfully.

Judge Walton’s novel and likely unconstitutional publishment was quickly appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, which struck down the punishment last month. The DC appeals court remanded the Goodwyn case back to the lower court, instructing that if Judge Walton must review his computer-monitoring punishment to make sure it comports with “constitutional protections.”

Now, it appears if Judge Walton is looking to reimpose the computer-monitoring requirement on Goodwyn. Reclaimthenet.org reported Tuesday that  Judge Walton scheduled a new hearing date for June 4 in a bid to reconsider his original order for Daniel Goodwyn’s computer to be surveilled for “mis/disinformation.”

“Walton is trying to once again impose surveillance of Goodwyn’s computer, ordering him to ‘show cause’ as to why that should not be happening,” the outlet reported.

Goodwyn’s punishment stems from his June 2023 appearance on Tucker Carlson Tonight, where he promoted a website for supporters to donate money to him and other political prisoners. Goodwyn’s appearance on that show drew the ire of Judge Walton, who last June ordered the Probation Office to monitor Goodwyn’s computer to make sure he didn’t spread “disinformation.” Goodwyn was also sentenced to 60 days imprisonment and given a $2,500 fine.

On March 26, the DC appeals court granted Goodwyn’s appeal, remanding his case to the district court for further consideration.

If Judge Walton does decide to reimpose a computer-monitoring requirement for Goodwyn, then “it should explain its reasoning,” “develop the record in support of its decision,” and ensure that the condition accords with … constitutional protections,” the appeals justices said.
