Fla. Pushes Steep Penalties for Defaming Someone as ‘Racist,’ ‘Sexist,’ ‘Homophobic’

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) A new bill introduced Friday in the Florida state senate could lower the standards of defamation in the instance that someone is called “racist,” “sexist,” “transphobic” or “homophobic,” ZeroHedge reported.

Senate Bill 1780, proposed by state Sen. Jason Brodeur, would amend the state code pertaining to “Defamation, False Light, and Unauthorized Publication of Name or Likeness.” A parallel bill is also being debated in the Florida state House under the title HB 757.

If the bill, as written, were to clear the GOP-led legislature and become law, unfounded accusations of homophobia, racism, etc., could lead to fines of at least $35,000, provided the plaintiff can prove they are false and caused material harm.

According to the bill, “an allegation that the plaintiff has discriminated against another person or group because of their race, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity constitutes defamation per se.”

The bill would also take a more stringent approach toward journalists who relied on anonymous sources for their reporting.

Morever, it would seek to narrow the definition of “public figure,” for which there is typically a higher threshold required to meet the legal definition of defamation. In the case of public figures, the law stipulates that the alleged defamer must have demonstrated a clear intent to harm the victim, often referred to as “actual malice.”

Under Florida’s new law, non-elected or appointed public employees would not be considered public figures. Moreover “individuals who became publicly known for defending themselves against accusations” would also be considered private citizens.

Thus, a person like George Zimmerman, who was acquitted in the 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, might have been able to sue former President Barack Obama and much of the mainstream media for insinuating that he had racist motives.

More recently, such allegations have been used to smear the Florida-based parental-rights group Moms for Liberty.

A recent report confirmed that the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center had consulted with the Biden administration prior to adding Moms for Liberty to its controversial “hate map,” which resulted in a barrage of media attacks—and literal attacks—ahead of the group’s nationwide convention last summer.

Headline USA reached out to Moms for Liberty via email as to how the proposed Florida legislation might support their advocacy efforts and will update with any response.

Bobby Block, executive director of the left-leaning First Amendment Foundation, told the Tallahassee Democrat that the bill, if it became law, would cause legal chaos.

“I believe it will introduce a whole new Wild West of litigation,” Block fretted. “This is about intimidating free speech, chilling free speech and silencing critics.”

MAHARREY: They Break It! We Buy It! Fed’s Financial Mess Is Ours Too

(Mike Maharrey, Money Metals News Service) The government and the Federal Reserve broke the economy and we have to buy it! Things may seem OK on the surface, but the economy is sliding toward a crisis. It’s just a matter of time.

In this episode of the Money Metals’ Midweek Memo, host Mike Maharrey explains how and when the government and the Fed broke the economy, and talks about one sector where the damage might manifest itself first.

Maharrey starts the episode with an analogy, comparing the economy to a house he bought with all kinds of hidden wiring problems. He makes the case that likewise, the economy is riddled with problems most people can’t see.

He goes on to explain why higher interest rates will eventually push the economy over the edge. But he argues that the Fed didn’t really cause these problems by raising rates. It did so years ago when it pushed rates artificially low and held them there, along with launching round after round of quantitative easing.

Where might the crisis start? There is no way to know for sure, but Maharrey highlights one sector ripe for a collapse – commercial real estate. He explains how Fed monetary policy and government actions incentivized debt that is now impossible to service. He also reveals how problems in the sector could spill over into the broader financial system.

This leads to a broader discussion of the boom-bust cycle driven by Fed monetary policy.

Maharrey argues that one cannot grasp the economic big picture without understanding how Federal Reserve monetary policy drives the boom-bust cycle. The effects of all other government policies work within the Fed’s monetary framework. Money-printing and interest rate manipulations fuel booms, and the inevitable attempt to return to “normalcy” precipitates busts.

Mike then points out where we are in the current cycle as he compares this go-around to the 2008 Financial Crisis.

El Salvador’s Based President Drags U.S. Dems over Attacks on ‘Democracy’

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) El Salvador President Nayib Bukele trolled a letter from Democratic members of Congress, accusing the Central American country of violating human rights and democratic values ahead of its 2024 presidential election.

On Wednesday, Bukele brushed aside the accusations by directly addressing embattled Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., who led a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken calling for the Biden administration to “review” U.S. relations with El Salvador.

“We are HONORED to receive your attacks, just days before OUR election,” Bukele retorted on Twitter, replying to Omar’s tweet of the letter. “I would be very worried if we had your support.”

Bukele, a popular polical figure in Latin America, initially rose to power in 2019 and, according to local polls, is poised to secure a landslide re-election on Sunday after taking on drug cartels and incarcerating violent criminals.

However, Omar’s letter, co-signed by 13 Democratic lawmakers, accused Bukele of “unlawful arrests and detention” ahead of the February election.

“The Members of Congress are urging the State Department to review its relationship with El Salvador and use America’s diplomatic influence to defend democratic values,” the lawmakers claimed.

“It is not the place of the United States government to determine who is eligible to run for President in a foreign country, nor to pick winners,” they continued. “We are nevertheless alarmed that some of the State Department’s public messaging on the elections has been overly credulous toward President Bukele’s re-election bid, and his governance.”

However, Bukele appeared unfazed by the letter, stating in a separate tweet, “I think the United States should have free and fair elections.”

This is not the first time Bukele has taken a dig at the U.S. In December 2023, he commented on the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to block former President Trump from appearing on the primary ballot in the state.

“The United States has lost its ability to lecture any other country about ’democracy,’” he said on Twitter.

Omar’s letter was co-signed by Reps. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas; Jesús “Chuy” García, D-Ill.; Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash.; Greg Casar, D-Texas; Linda T. Sánchez, D-Calif.; Mark Pocan, D-WI.; Nydia M. Velázquez, D-N.Y.; Raúl Grijalva D-Ariz.; Barbara Lee, D-Calif.; Jim McGovern D-Mass.; Eleanor Holmes Norton D-D.C.; Jamie Raskin, D-Md.; and Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill.

Mass. Gov. Weeps over Converting Rec. Center to Illegal Alien Shelter

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey was visibly moved while discussing her contentious decision to repurpose a family recreation center into a shelter for illegal aliens flooding the state.

Speaking to ABC 15 on Friday, Healey struggled to hold back her tears when addressing the plan. “I get emotional because I’m committed to this,” Healey said.

“Little kids need to be able to breathe clean air. They need to be able to access swimming pools. They need lifeguards there who can teach them how to swim, and they need to have activities,” she added.

The Melnea Cass Recreational Complex in Roxbury will temporarily serve as a shelter for undocumented immigrants sleeping at Logan International Airport until June, as reported by local outlet WBZ. Meanwhile, the state government claims to be seeking an alternative for the affected families and children.

“We are working to relocate recreation programs, ensuring the recreation center and the pool can reopen in June, continuing to make improvements to the center for the long-term benefit of the community and prioritizing diverse and local vendors,” Emergency Assistance Director General Scott Rice said, according to WBZ.

The decision to suspend recreational services drew criticism, even from Michelle Wu, the embattled, accused pro-segregation Boston mayor, who expressed disappointment with placing illegal aliens in the recreation center.

“I’ll just start by saying there are no good options,” she claimed in an interview with WBUR radio station. “For the first community where this is being proposed to be Roxbury, a community that over so many decades has faced disinvestment, redlining, disproportionate outcomes. It’s very painful, and it’s painfully familiar.”

According to the recreational center’s website, the facility boasts a swimming pool, athletic courts, classroom spaces, restrooms, showers and a walking track for local community members to enjoy.

Massachusetts’s decision to convert a public location into a homeless shelter is not unprecedented. In New York City, a group of fired-up parents rebuked the city’s decision to house undocumented immigrants in a public school in response to a storm.

This news comes as the nation grapples with unprecedented numbers of illegal immigrants crossing the U.S. southern border and subsequently relocating to taxpayer-funded facilities, particularly in liberal cities.

Several mayors in historically pro-undocumented immigrant cities have reversed their stance, calling on President Joe Biden to secure the border and take decisive action.

Biden Slammed for Sharing Viral Tweet of Elmo ‘Trauma Dump’

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) President Joe Biden found himself at the receiving end of Twitter criticism after he shared a tweet from Elmo, the Sesame Street puppet character.

In an attempt to join the “Trauma-dumping” trend on social media, Biden shared a post from Elmo, who gained viral attention with two posts. The negative reactions to Biden’s post were first reported by Fox News.

The trend originated when Elmo reached out to its followers, asking, “Elmo is just checking in! How is everybody doing?” Elmo’s first post amassed over 187 million views.

In another post, which garnered over 74 million views, Elmo’s page added, “Wow! Elmo is glad he asked! Elmo learned that it is important to ask a friend how they are doing. Elmo will check in again soon, friends!  Elmo loves you.”

Some lighthearted tweets included people jokingly claiming they had been laid off or expressing their tiredness. On the other hand, Biden attempted to hop on the trend with a solidarity post. However, his bland tone fell flat, with many critics pointing out that the president should focus on other serious matters.

“I know how hard it is some days to sweep the clouds away and get to sunnier days,” Biden said in a post that gained over 28 million reactions.

“Our friend Elmo is right: We have to be there for each other, offer our help to a neighbor in need, and above all else, ask for help when we need it. Even though it’s hard, you’re never alone,” he added.

Biden’s failed attempt at humor sparked its own wave of reactions. Twitter influencer Tim Young remarked, “One puppet endorsing another puppet.”

Conservative podcast host Comfortably Smug said, “Bro we lost three service members in a terrorist attack and the president is tweeting about sesame street.” Echoing Smug’s sentiment, conservative writer Stephen Miller said: “This is worse than anything Donald Trump ever tweeted.”

One post, gaining over 5 million views, mockingly reacted: “Elmo, is this guy bothering you?”

Deranged Anti-Trump Activist Decapitates Father, Calls for Murder of Gov’t Officials

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) A self-purported militia leader was arrested Wednesday for murdering his father and defiling his corpse—sparking political spin in the mainstream media, as well as speculation on social media that the man was a victim of an MKUltra-like operation.

The alleged murderer, Justin Mohn, 32, of Pennsylvania, displayed his father’s apparent head in a YouTube video, where he also referenced himself as the “Mosiah” while calling for the murder of federal officials.

“Earn your place in heaven by sending a traitor to hell early. I ask for the state police, National Guard and military veterans to join your fellow Americans against the traitors in the federal government, unless you want to see Philadelphia and every other major city turn into a lawless zone like Portland and San Francisco,” Mohn said, claiming to have $10 million to pay bounties for dead feds.

“Now is your last chance to reside from the side of the traitors and join your fellow countrymen in taking back your country, or else this is your fate,” he said, displaying his the decapitated head of his father, whom he said was a federal employee.

Mohn then declared himself the rightful President. He also said multiple donors and politicians sought to have him be a presidential candidate ahead of the 2020 elections, but those efforts were thwarted because the U.S. government knew he was looked at as a potential “Mosiah.”

“Joe Biden is no longer in power … I am now officially the acting President of America under martial law. If Joe Biden doesn’t surrender, capture him and bring him to me in Pennsylvania.”

Mohn also claimed to be a former Microsoft contractor who “blew the whistle” on the company’s tax evasion to the IRS. He also claimed to have filed a complaint with the FBI over a “labor racketeering” scheme, only to have agents threaten him.

Mohn, of course, displayed signals of severe mental illness. There is no publicly available evidence for any of his claims, and it appears that he was the only member of his own militia.

Despite that, some media outlets are putting a political spin on his actions—noting his purported militia affiliation and his statements that align with right-wing politics.

CNN, for example, focused on Mohn’s “anti-Biden rant” while the New York Post referenced Q-Anon in its headline.

However, internet sleuths were quick to note that Mohn was anti-Trump.

The more conspiratorial-minded observers noted that Mohn’s rant immediately followed legislation introduced by Democrats to outlaw militias.

Mohn’s preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 8.

‘I Live in Frustration’: Sotomayor Bemoans Life in SCOTUS Minority

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor stirred controversy on Wednesday by expressing her “frustration” when the liberal minority does not prevail in the newly conservative-majority court.

“I live in frustration,” she during a speech at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. “And as you heard, every loss truly traumatizes me in my stomach and in my heart. But I have to get up the next morning and keep on fighting.”

Her remarks, first reported by CNN, were in response to the school’s dean, who claimed that students feel discouraged by the new court, consisting of six justices (three appointed by former President Donald Trump) and three liberals.

“How can you look at those people and say that you’re entitled to despair? You’re not. I’m not,” Sotomayor added. “Change never happens on its own. Change happens because people care about moving the arc of the universe toward justice, and it can take time and it can take frustration.”

The new composition is primarily attributed to Trump, who is seeking a return to the White House in 2024. Trump has long celebrated the majority justices, often campaigning on the historic appointments.

Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch were appointed by Trump during his tenure as president. In contrast, President Joe Biden, has appointed only one: Ketanji Brown Jackson.

The other justices are Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito, both appointed by former President George W. Bush, Justice Clarence Thomas, appointed by George H.W. Bush, and Justice Elena Kagan, appointed by former President Barack Obama.

Under the conservative-majority court, a significant victory for the pro-life movement was realized when the justices overturned Roe v. Wade, a landmark case that had previously recognized a so-called constitutional “right” to abortions.

Such decision have sparked violent protests against the conservative justices. Some Democrats, including President Joe Biden, have flirting with the idea of packing the court to potentially receive more favorable rulings.

The Court now finds itself at the center of attention with major cases related to the 2024 presidential election lingering, including one where efforts seek to block Trump from appearing on the primary ballot.

DeSantis Pushes for Deportation of ‘Somalia First’ Rep. Omar

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has joined calls for the deportation of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., amid controversy over a viral video where the Somalia-born lawmaker allegedly declared, “Somali first, Muslim second.”

“Expel from Congress, denaturalize and deport!” DeSantis urged in a Tuesday tweet, reacting to the over 3-minute-long video capturing Omar speaking in Somali at an event for Somali leaders in Minnesota.

The video shows Omar advocating for Somalia’s interests in its dispute with the breakaway Republic of Somaliland.

“While I am in Congress, no one will take Somalia’s sea,” Omar said, according to a translation of her speech. “The United States will not back others to rob us. So, do not lose sleep over that, O Minnesotans. The lady you sent to Congress is on this, and she is as cognizant of this interest as you are.”

Alternate translations of the video, disputed by Omar, alleged that she stated, “We are an organized society, brothers and sisters, people of the same blood, people who know they are Somalians first, Muslims second, who protect one another.”

DeSantis joined House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., in calling for Omar’s resignation due to her remarks.

“Ilhan Omar’s appalling, Somalia-first comments are a slap in the face to the Minnesotans she was elected to serve and a direct violation of her oath of office,” Emmer said on Twitter. “She should resign in disgrace.”

Echoing Emmer, Greene declared, “Terrorist sympathizer Ilhan Omar in her own words: Somalian first. Muslim second. She never mentions America.”

Greene added, “She flaunts using her position as congresswoman to protect Somalia’s border while our border is invaded by MILLIONS of illegals who are a danger to America.”

In response to the backlash, Omar insisted that her speech had been distorted. “It’s not only slanted but completely off, but I wouldn’t expect more from these propagandists,” she said on Twitter. “I pray for them and for their sanity.”

In another tweet, Omar told one her supporters that she cannot sue for defamation because she is a public official. “I am confident that the people I represent will never fall for the lies that are out there to smear me,” she claimed. “They know who I represent and why I fight hard for the  Minnesotans than have sent me to Congress.”

Omar was born in Somalia but fled the war-stricken country at the age of eight. She spent four years in Kenya before coming to the U.S. in the 1990s, according to her congressional bio.

Scared? Biden Shifts Tone on Anti-Trump Ballot Schemes.

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) President Joe Biden appeared to alter his rhetoric regarding attempts to prevent his main rival, former President Donald Trump, from appearing on primary ballots in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election.

“As far as I’m concerned, that’s fine,” Biden stated outside the White House on Tuesday, expressing his approval of the imminent Supreme Court decision against Maine’s and Colorado’s bids to block Trump from their state ballots.

Biden’s recent response suggests that the president, much like numerous legal experts, anticipates that the justices will shut down attempts to prevent Trump from featuring on primary ballots.

Biden’s statements mark a stark departure from his previous claims on the anti-Trump efforts, centering on the notion that the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause bars Trump—despite lacking any conviction or indictment—from holding office due to the so-called “insurrection” on Jan. 6, 2021.

“Whether the 14th Amendment applies or not, we’ll let the court make that decision,” a confident Biden said about the Colorado ruling against Trump. “But he certainly supported an insurrection. There’s no question about it. None. Zero. And he seems to be doubling down on it.”

Strikingly, Trump—despite facing several state and federal charges—has not been indicted for such an offense. In fact, no individual who participated in what Democrats described as an insurrection on Jan. 6 has been charged with that offense.

Nevertheless, the Colorado Supreme Court, comprising all Democratic-appointed judges, ruled that Trump is disqualified from appearing on their state ballot, paving the way for an appeal to the Supreme Court, which is scheduled to hear the case next week.

Similarly, Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, a Democrat, unilaterally bared the former president from featuring on the state’s primary ballot.

These actions sparked nationwide concerns, with many labeling them undemocratic and others accusing Democrats of attempting to hinder Biden’s primary opponent.

Trump, currently vying for the Republican nomination for president, has surged ahead in several polls, prompting the Biden campaign to bolster its re-election efforts.

Disney Removes Woke ‘Wheel of Privilege’ from Employee Kitchen after Being Exposed

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) After Disney was exposed for hanging leftist posters in employee spaces in Disneyland, the company removed it to avoid the backlash that it’s been facing for the last couple of years for its woke movies and shows.

The posters featured a “wheel of power/privilege” that showed that being white, a “cisgender male,” owning property and speaking English are the signs of being “privileged,” while being dark-skinned, “transgender,” homeless and not speaking English are the signs of being marginalized, according to an anonymous employee who said that the materials were posted in the production kitchen on Main Street USA in Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif.

The leftist wheel also pointed out that there is also a category of people who are neither completely marginalized nor totally privileged, “cisgender women,” homosexual men, people with a high school education and those who learned English.

The definition of “privilege” was also included with the wheel, saying that it is “unearned access or advantage granted to specific groups of people because of their membership in a social group.”

“Privilege can be based on a variety of different social identities such as race, gender, religion, socioeconomic status, ability status, sexuality, age, education level and more. Within the US, members of social groups that hold privileges (white, male, wealthy, able-bodied, etc.) have historically held dominance and power over targeted groups,” the wheel said.

The anonymous employee said that there are many people who work at the company who are tired of the leftists dividing people, which is the opposite of what Walt Disney wanted Disneyland to be.

“This isn’t what Walt would have wanted for his company. He once said, ‘To ALL who come to this happy place, Welcome.’ Things like this make people feel unwelcome, destroying the magic,” the source said.

Disney never responded to the Daily Wire when the news source contacted the company. However, within hours of reaching out, the anonymous employee said that their manager removed the poster, sending a photo of the now-empty display cabinet.
