During an interview with “The Sage Steele Show” on Wednesday, Kennedy said he opposes any government restrictions on abortion, arguing it should always be up to the mother to decide.
“I have been probably one of the leading—arguably one of the leading people in this country for medical freedom and for bodily autonomy,” he said.
“I think with abortion, every abortion is a tragedy. Many of them leave permanent trauma on the woman,” he continued. “But I think, ultimately, I don’t trust government to have jurisdiction over people’s bodies. I think we need to leave it to the woman, her pastor and to, you know, her spiritual advisors or physician, whatever, to make those decisions.”
Pressed on whether he would support any kind of government restriction, such as those on late-term abortions, Kennedy said his position would be the same “even if it’s full term.”
He then tried to downplay his comment by insisting that such abortions are extremely rare and that there are usually “extenuating circumstances” behind them.
“I think there’s a really, really good argument, a compelling argument, that the state has an interest in protecting a fully-formed fetus” he said.
“I absolutely think that that argument is very convincing,” he continued. “But again, I come down to the fact that I don’t trust the state. I think we need to trust the woman, and I don’t think that that’s a satisfactory outcome, because there’s always gonna be instances where bad things happen.”
Kennedy also suggested he would support reinstating Roe v. Wade, which the Supreme Court overturned.
“I wouldn’t leave it to the states,” Kennedy added. “We should leave it to the woman. We shouldn’t have government involved.”
(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) The Biden administration filed a lawsuit against Iowa on May 9, 2024, because the state decided to pass a law that allows state authorities to arrest and deport illegal aliens in Iowa who have previously been deported or denied entry into the country.
Last month, Gov. Kim Reynolds, R-Iowa, signed the measure into law, saying it was necessary because the Biden administration had failed to secure the border, the Daily Wire reported.
“Iowa cannot disregard the U.S. Constitution and settled Supreme Court precedent. We have brought this action to ensure that Iowa adheres to the framework adopted by Congress and the Constitution for regulation of immigration,” Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian M. Boynton said.
Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird said that the law will be defended.
“When Biden fails to do his job and secure our border, States have to take matters into their own hands. Iowa’s law is not unique. It simply enforces immigration laws while Biden refuses to. Iowa stands ready to defend our immigration law that keeps Iowa communities safe,” Bird said.
The Wire reported that the measure, SF 2340, creates a penalty for “illegal reentry,” with illegals possibly facing up to two years in prison and deportation. The law is set to go into effect on July 1, 2024.
Under the new state law, a person could be guilty of a Class C felony and face up to 10 years in prison for illegally entering the country if he or she was arrested for committing another felony. Additionally, the law requires Iowa judges to submit an order for a person convicted of illegally entering the United States to be returned to their home country.
“But Iowa cannot create its own immigration system. Its efforts, through SF 2340, intrude on the federal government’s exclusive authority to regulate the entry and removal of noncitizens, frustrate the United States’ immigration operations, and interfere with U.S. foreign relations,” the DOJ said.
Musk made the comment in response to news that every single House Democrat refused to vote for a measure that would add a citizenship requirement to the U.S. census, which helps determine congressional districts and apportionment.
“Unanimous Democrat opposition to requiring citizenship for apportionment of House seats and presidential electoral college votes says it all,” Musk said.
“The Democratic Party goal is to disenfranchise U.S. citizens by importing as many illegal immigrants as possible,” he added.
He then issued a dire warning.
“Given the massive influx of illegal immigrants from every country on Earth, 2024 will probably be the last election actually decided by U.S. citizens,” Musk said.
The Tesla and Twitter owner has previously pointed out that illegal immigration impacts apportionment.
“Most Americans are still unaware that the census counts ALL people, including illegal immigrants, for deciding how many House seats each state gets!” Musk noted in a March post.
Most Americans are still unaware that the census counts ALL people, including illegal immigrants, for deciding how many House seats each state gets!
This results in Dem states getting roughly 20 more House seats, which is another strong incentive for them not to deport illegals.
Musk, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in South Africa, has become increasingly outspoken against illegal immigration after visiting the southern border in 2023.
He said at the time that seeing the crisis for himself gave him an “unfiltered” view.
The billionaire said he still considers himself “extremely pro-immigrant” but argued that the system needs to be completely reformed.
“We want to do both things—smooth out legal immigration and stop a flow of people that is of such magnitude that we’re leading to a collapse of social services,” Musk said last year.
The border crisis is one of the key reasons Musk said he will not support President Joe Biden in 2024, accusing the president of ushering in millions of illegal immigrants to create a “permanent” majority for the Democratic Party.
“Biden’s strategy is very simple,” he tweeted in February. “1. Get as many illegals in the country as possible. 2. Legalize them to create a permanent majority – a one-party state.”

(Headline USA) A newly released ad promoting Apple’s new iPad Pro has struck quite a nerve online.
The ad, which was released by the tech giant Tuesday, shows a hydraulic press crushing just about every creative instrument artists and consumers have used over the years—from a piano and record player, to piles of paint, books, cameras and relics of arcade games.
Resulting from the destruction? A pristine new iPad Pro.
“The most powerful iPad ever is also the thinnest,” a narrator says at the end of the commercial.
Apple’s intention seems straightforward: Look at all the things this new product can do. But critics have called it tone-deaf—with several marketing experts noting the campaign’s execution didn’t land.
“I had a really disturbing reaction to the ad,” said Americus Reed II, professor of marketing at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. “I understood conceptually what they were trying to do, but … I think the way it came across is, here is technology crushing the life of that nostalgic sort of joy (from former times).”
The ad also arrives during a time many feel uncertain or fearful about seeing their work or everyday routines “replaced” by technological advances—particularly amid the rapid commercialization of generative artificial intelligence.
And watching beloved items get smashed into oblivion doesn’t help curb those fears, Reed and others noted.
Several celebrities were also among the voices critical of Apple’s “Crush!” commercial on social media this week.
“The destruction of the human experience. Courtesy of Silicon Valley,” actor Hugh Grant tweeted, in a repost of Apple CEO Tim Cook’s sharing of the ad.

Some found the ad to be a telling metaphor of the industry today—particularly concerns about Big Tech negatively impacting creatives.
Filmmaker Justine Bateman tweeted that the commercial “crushes the arts.”
Why did @Apple do an ad that crushes the arts? Tech and #AI means to destroy the arts and society in general. This is not making things better. This is just making some people insanely wealthy, at the expense of all of us. “The love of money is the root of all evil” 1Tim 6:10. pic.twitter.com/PnEYO4H7FB
Experts added that the commercial marked a notable difference to marketing seen from Apple in the past—which has often taken more positive or uplifting approaches.
“My initial thought was that Apple has become exactly what it never wanted to be,” Vann Graves, executive director of the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Brandcenter, said.
Graves pointed to Apple’s famous 1984 ad introducing the Macintosh computer, which he said focused more on uplifting creativity and thinking outside of the box as a unique individual.
In contrast, Graves added, “this (new iPad) commercial says, ‘No, we’re going to take all the creativity in the world and use a hydraulic press to push it down into one device that everyone uses.’”
In a statement shared with Ad Age on Thursday, Apple apologized for the ad. The outlet also reported that Apple no longer plans to run the spot on TV.
“Creativity is in our DNA at Apple, and it’s incredibly important to us to design products that empower creatives all over the world,” Tor Myhren, the company’s vice president of marketing communications, told Ad Age.
“Our goal is to always celebrate the myriad of ways users express themselves and bring their ideas to life through iPad,” he added. “We missed the mark with this video, and we’re sorry.”
Cupertino, California-based Apple unveiled its latest generation of iPad Pros and Airs earlier this week in a showcase that lauded new features for both lines.
The Pro sports a new thinner design, a new M4 processor for added processing power, slightly upgraded storage and incorporates dual OLED panels for a brighter, crisper display.
Apple is trying to juice demand for iPads after its sales of the tablets plunged 17% from last year during the January-March period.
After its 2010 debut helped redefine the tablet market, the iPad has become a minor contributor to Apple’s success. It currently accounts for just 6% of the company’s sales.

“Justice delayed is justice denied, and the people in our country—it looks as though—will most likely go to vote without knowing the outcome of these other very serious trials,” Clinton griped during an appearance Thursday on MSNBC’s deep-state propagandist talk showMorning Joe.
Had she stopped there, perhaps the vaguery of her platitudes might have made for a reasonable concern, if operating under the assumption that Democrats were prosecuting former President Donald Trump in good faith for something other than a political outcome.
But of course, Clinton being Clinton, she went farther, driving home the point that she was not, in fact, speaking in good faith by flexing the fact that she and her hubby had eluded consequences under the very same circumstances for which Trump now faces trial.
“[T]he one going on now currently in New York is really about election interference,” Clinton contended, in reference to Trump’s trial in Manhattan. “It is about trying to prevent the people of our country from having relevant information that may have influenced how they could have voted in 2016 or whether they would have voted.”
Notwithstanding the many ways she actively sought to prevent the public from having relevant information in the 2016 election, her charge brazenly ignores Bill Clinton’s own $850,000 payoff to Paula Jones in 1999 to make a sexual-harassment lawsuit vanish.
Although leftist media will find every possible semantic excuse to distinguish between this and the payments made by former Trump fixer Michael Cohen to porn star Stormy Daniels and Playboy bunny Karen McDougal, the underlying objective was the same.
USA Today claims that Clinton’s was not a “hush money” payment since the Paula Jones case was widely known—and, of course, Bill Clinton by the time of the payment already had been twice elected and impeached.
But that only makes the details of it more damning since the methods used by the Clintons to silence their many victims prior to his two elections—whether actual “hush money” payments or other forms of extortion—remain tightly kept secrets.
We see the smoke and the charred rubble. And every so often we hear Hillary, like a conscience-racked Raskolnikov, prattle on about the dangers of playing with matches. All that’s missing is the fire itself.
BELTWAY CIRCLE-JERK
Zbigniew Brzezinski and Cyrus Vance / PHOTO: National Archives and Records Administration via Wikipedia (public domain)
Ironically, the fraudulent pretenses under which Trump now stands trial for the perfectly legal act of paying someone private money not to talk about a decade-old alleged sexual encounter stemmed from Hillary herself.
After all, Cohen’s office was initially raided as part of the sham Mueller investigation—the entire purpose of which was to cover up the deep state’s active role in 2016 election meddling while also, ideally, digging up some actual dirt it could leverage against Trump to prevent him from inflicting any serious collateral damage—either in retaliation or in keeping with his political promise of draining the D.C. swamp.
But that only begins to scratch the surface when it comes to political causes and effects that may seem, for those with dim memories, to happen organically but which, in fact, have the Clintons’ and their cronies’ fingerprints all over them.
Indeed, underscoring what a serious circle-jerk the Democrats’ political ecosystem is: The current Stormy Daniels probe was opened by then-Manhattan D.A. Cy Vance Jr., the son of Jimmy Carter’s secretary of State.
And Hillary—the former Obama secretary of State—was spouting her lies about the case on Thursday to Mika Brzezinski, the daughter of Jimmy Carter’s national security adviser.
Thus, the conspiracy against Trump, it seems, is at least five decades and two generations in the making.
Hillary, of course, cut her teeth as part of the Watergate investigation but was allegedly fired due to her lack of ethics in a complex plot twist that involved wanting to keep Nixon in office to help Teddy Kennedy get elected.
However, a report she created for the Nixon impeachment effort would go on to provide the roadmap for her husband’s impeachment 25 years later.
The double-impeachment and the subsequent lawfare campaign against Trump—including the 90-some felony indictments (minus four)—may be an effort to close the never-ending loop following Trump’s threat to lock up Hillary. It is a “retribution” campaign so audacious and definitive that any attempt to respond in-kind (or even hold accountable the perpetrators) would be denounced as an affront to democracy itself.
HILLARY’S HOSTAGES
Yet, while others may be trying their hardest to end the vicious cycle of political payback, even if it means going nuclear, Clinton herself seems to relish every excruciating moment and continues to reopen old wounds.
In one recently resurfaced clip from 2020, Twitter users even noted that former President Bill Clinton appeared to be held hostage as Hillary, yet again, relitigated the 2016 loss in her own warped, conspiratorial mind.
“[T]hese people will stop at nothing,” she claimed. “And yes, the Russians helped them last time, the Russians are helping them now and … the [Trump] White House has said ‘Don’t brief the Congress. Don’t even tell them in classified settings what the Russians are doing this time.'”
Although Bill Clinton’s left hand is out of frame in the video, it is easy to envision what it may look like.

Her flaunting of the “hush money” double-standard on Morning Joe was but the latest in a litany of examples in which Hillary’s delusions have been given a national platform:
She continues to suggest that the 2016 Russia hoax was real, despite widespread recognition that she herself concocted it.
She has suggested at times that she, in fact, won the 2016 election, even while accusing others of election denialism.
She claims that conservatives spread Russian propaganda due to their questioning the Left’s dishonest narratives, even while blatantly pushing her own propaganda and insisting that any skeptics be subjected to “deprogramming.”
During an interview with her former campaign attorney and election-fixer, Marc Elias, Hillary even suggested that Trump wanted to “kill his opposition,” setting herself up for a barrage of ridicule due to the longstanding suspicions that she has done precisely that.
Fittingly, the questioner in each is often a political flunky or underling who is following direct marching orders not to push back.
CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, for example, who conducted one of the above interviews, has long put forth a facade of being a serious journalist. However, her husband, James Rubin, was the top spokesman for the State Department under Bill Clinton and worked on the Hillary Clinton campaign.
In the rare situation in which Hillary faces an actual, self-respecting reporter who nonetheless allows her claims to go unchallenged, the humiliating subservience is perhaps at its peak.
Sadly, the alternative would be to face career-ending accusations of being a Russia shill or a Trump apologist, and to be frozen out of the vast network of political patrons who pledge their allegiance to her. And ultimately, no claim of Hillary’s can ever be fact-checked since she can simply formulate another lie in rejoinder.
Thus, she is able to prevaricate and equivocate ever more boldly in plain sight, with not so much as a muted groan from the mainstream media.
A MENTAL ‘#METOO’
Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein at Windsor Castle / PHOTO: @ Le_Rekt_Guy via Reddit
The degree of mental manipulation that Hillary Clinton engages in is, in a way, tantamount to the sort of sexual assaults that are purported to be her husband’s Achilles heel.
Both entail the need to satisfy some impulse for sheer power by imposing one’s own will without voluntary consent, although there may be some form of coerced consent.
It is not my intention to diminish the anguish of actual sexual-assault survivors, whose traumatic experiences I cannot begin to empathize with.
On one level—facing the immediacy of fear and, of course, the physical suffering inflicted by a forcible sex crime—there is nothing comparable.
On a fundamentally moral level, though, it is hard to distinguish between a malicious gaslighter and a serial #MeToo abuser like, say, longtime Hillary pal Harvey Weinstein.
Is accepting a pernicious fact that someone knows to be untrue any different than submitting one’s self to receive unwanted bodily fluids?
Both have the ability to take on a life of their own that will ultimately outlast and supplant the corrupt circumstances of their inception.
Yet, arguably, Hillary’s mindf**kery is worse than #MeToo since it has been allowed to go unchecked, making much of the mainstream media an accessory to rape.
For “Morning Joe” Scarborough, who was forced out of Congress (and the Republican Party) after the mysterious death of an intern, it may not be the first time.
This appropriately included pushing a deceptive lie about the disposition of E. Jean Carroll’s case against Trump, resulting in a defamation lawsuit against Stefanopoulos for falsely claiming Trump had been found guilty of rape.
Once again, the circle remains unbroken, with Clinton surrogates accusing Trump of the very things for which they are most likely guilty or complicit.
WHITEWATER TO WATERLOO
Napoleon’s Withdrawal from Russia by Adolph Northen (1851)
Naturally, the Clintons are not the only ones afflicted with this political pathology. President Joe Biden has proven to be a similar breed of charlatan.
Still, few delight in the power that it affords as Hillary does.
Her political career having reached its terminal stage, there is nothing more to be gained from continuing the deception, but she can’t seem to stop. She wants to do it.
Moreover, Hillary lies not simply to evade the truth, as with Biden’s hamfisted recent attempt to claim that he inherited the inflation problem, but to constantly remind her enemies of her unique prowess for impunity—lest they be tempted, like armies invading Russia in wintertime, to repeat the historical mistake of trying to hold her accountable for her misdeeds.
Along with ChatGPT, OpenAI also operate the image creator, DALL-E. The company is reportedly considering allowing users of their platforms to create content that is “not-safe-for-work.”
“We believe developers and users should have the flexibility to use our services as they see fit,” they wrote in a recently released document.
Developers are also “exploring” the possibility of providing “NSFW content in age-appropriate contexts” with a greater understanding of “societal expectations.”
Some OpenAI employees, however, claimed that the company, while open to the idea of its technology being used for erotica literature, still opposes its use for the creation of deep fake pornography.
Joanne Jang, an employee in San Franscisco who helped write the document, said that she wants to be sure that the company does not violate anybody’s “rights” by allowing them to participate in online erotica text- or image-making.
“We want to ensure that people have maximum control to the extent that it doesn’t violate the law or other people’s rights, but enabling deepfakes is out of the question, period,” Jang said, still trying to distance the company from the pornography industry.
“This doesn’t mean that we are trying now to create AI porn.”
For the sake of a few “creative cases,” she argued, it may be necessary to allow content involving sexuality or nudity, which is “important” to some AI users.
Beeban Kidron, an activist for child online safety, claimed that OpenAI has “rapidly undermined its own mission statement,” a statement that suggests the company is interested in producing “safe and beneficial” content.
According to Kidron, OpenAI’s statements are “endlessly disappointing,” concerned with “AI erotica” rather than taking “practical steps” to avoid creating additional “harms,” she said.
Clare McGlynn, a law professor at Durham University and an expert in pornography regulation, said that most companies that try to “responsibly” create pornography or other adult content typically go off the rails.
“I am deeply skeptical about any way in which they will try to limit this to consensually made, legitimate material,” she said.
(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Tara Reade, former Senate aide and victim of an alleged sexual assault by now-President Joe Biden, reported that the Justice Department still tried to attack her even after seeking asylum in Moscow, Russia.
Reade fled to Russia in May 2023 and launched a lawsuit against the DOJ for misconduct.
The new accusations of harassment came out in an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
Ep. 103 Former Senate aide Tara Reade credibly accused Joe Biden of sexual assault. Now the DOJ is after her and she’s moved to Russia seeking political asylum. We spoke to her in Moscow. pic.twitter.com/1C4hTc9c1T
In the interview, Reade explained that her attorney filed a complaint with the Inspector General of the DOJ, Michael E. Horowitz, after facing mistreatment by FBI and DOJ.
Horowitz did not respond to the complaint, pushing her attorneys to levy a tort claim against the organization for $10 million.
When asked what she thinks her crime was, she said it was because she refused to stop trying to bring the case to light.
“I think not shutting up [was my crime],” she said. “I think because I just wouldn’t stop talking. I kept trying to push for an investigation.”
She recounted several lies told by the Biden administration as they attempted to cover up the case.
Former Press Secretary Jen Psaki lied in the press room about the case being litigated, which was untrue. Officials never investigated the attack on Reade.
She said that she faced death threats, harassment and more at the hands of large government organizations, particularly after Reps. Marjorie Taylor-Greene, R-Ga., and Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., invited her to testify on a whistleblower panel.
Reade accused Biden of sexually assaulting her in 1993, when she worked as a staffer for his Senate office.
There is speculation that Biden’s Senate records contain information about the assault, but they are inaccessible under the University of Delaware seal.
There is a federal criminal investigation into Reade happening under the Biden DOJ; she claimed she will likely get indicted by the federal government, but is unsure why, because the documents are sealed.
Specifically, Bailey said he intends to investigate the documents related to the DOJ’s communications with various prosecutors who have backed indictments of Trump over the past year.
Bailey announced his move in a recent appearance on Fox Business, suggesting that “we have every reason to believe” that the DOJ has conducted nationwide lawfare.

— Attorney General Andrew Bailey (@AGAndrewBailey) May 9, 2024
Bailey filed a Freedom of Information Act request Thursday asking the DOJ to make public all of its “activity” and “communications” regarding Trump between itself and Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, New York AG Letitia James, Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, and Fulton County DA Fani Willis.
“I am demanding the DOJ turn over communications relating to the illicit prosecutions of President Trump,” Bailey announced.
The four named are all in some capacity or another helping lead the lawfare charge against Trump, who remains unfazed by his legal difficulties.
According to Bailey, there is reason to believe that the DOJ has been the leader of the coordinated political attacks on Trump.
“The investigations and subsequent prosecutions of former President Donald J. Trump appear to have been conducted in coordination with the United States Department of Justice,” Bailey argued.
Namely, Bailey suggested that one of the DOJ’s top ranking officials, Matthew Colangelo, went out of his way to aid the Manhattan DA’s office in its case against Trump.
Bragg in particular, Bailey argued, has publicly promised to prosecute Trump, as early as his own 2021 campaign.
“During that campaign, Bragg promised ‘if elected, [he] would go after Trump.’ Once he won election, he pledged ‘to personally focus on the high-profile probe into former President Donald Trump’s business practices,’” the AG added.
And Bragg lived up to his word. Despite the admitted flimsiness of the case, Bailey believes that they are working to keep Trump “off the campaign trail” while Biden makes the rounds.
According to the charging documents, Secret Service started noticing disturbing social media posts from the defendant, Cody Angeli, on May 5.
“How many shots do you think you can take @POTUS? What about you @POTUS45? What about you @POTUS44?” Angeli tweeted at Biden, Trump and Obama.
“I will not wait any longer. I will fuck you all up now @POTUS @POTUS45 @POTUS44 @JoeBiden @realDonaldTrump @Barack Obama,” he said in another tweet on May 4.
Angeli also threatened to “eliminate” Sens. Ted Cruz and Mitch McConnell, as well as a “bunchhhhhh others.”
Angeli’s Twitter account was still online as of the publication of this article.
FYI @POTUS i hope you know you had permission to hack my cameras to show I’m moving to the beat just by knowing. Just feel like I’m being called a liar or something but no one’s telling me
It’s really just so cool. So many panic rooms because i just kept crying and only have…
Along with his apparent threats, Angeli also said he works for the CIA and that he’s the reincarnation of John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
Angeli’s family told the Secret Service that he suffers from bipolar schizophrenia.
Secret Service agents also interviewed Angeli, who made similar remarks to them.
“ANGELI immediately asked us if we could ‘hear the music’ and then proceeded to turn up the volume on his cell phone. ANGELI stated his thoughts were being ‘stolen,’ that he was ‘God,’ and at one point he stated that he was John Fitzgerald Kennedy,” Secret Service John Rolander wrote in his affidavit. “He admitted that he made the posts and claimed his thoughts had been ‘stolen.’”
Angeli also told the agents that he believed his posts were protected by the First Amendment. One of the agents informed him that threatening to kill the President is not protected speech.
Angela said on Twitter that he apologized to the Secret Service for his posts.
Especially after secret service came and said never again and i said sorry just needed you all to think about your love now because it makes you so much better and happier seriously that’s your therapy session
When asked if he wanted to kill the President, Angeli told the Secret Service that he did not want to harm anyone, including himself. He further said he wound’t make any more threats on social media. But when an agent asked him if he’d seek mental health treatment, Angeli allegedly said he would not.
“He appeared to be experiencing severe mental distress,” Agent Rolander said in his affidavit.
The affidavit identified Angeli as a former employee of Dr. Pepper Snapple Group. That allowed Headline USA to track down his LinkedIn page, which also lists him as a former employee of Monsanto.
The Secret Service arrested a schizophrenic man yesterday who had been posting death threats against Biden, Trump, Obama, Ted Cruz, Mitch and others
Angeli’s resume states that he “specialized in protein and DNA extraction from small seed agricultural products to ensure greater than 99% varietal purity in order to maintain quality customer satisfaction.”
Angeli has a detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
(Money Metals News Service) Investigative reporter Ken Silva with Headline USA uncovers the Fed’s hidden powers and gold secrets in a riveting Money Metals Exchange podcast with host Mike Maharrey.
In a revealing episode of the Money Metals podcast, host Mike Maharrey is joined by Ken Silva, an investigative reporter for Headline USA, to delve into the opaque operations of the Federal Reserve, particularly in relation to its gold holdings and the broader implications of its secretive practices.
Silva, known for his focus on clandestine government activities, discusses his skepticism regarding the Federal Reserve’s proclaimed independence. Citing economic theories and historical data, Silva argues that the Fed has engaged in politically motivated financial maneuvers, such as adjusting interest rates around election times, which contradicts its claims of being a non-partisan entity.
(Interview Begins Around 6:40 Mark)
The conversation turns to the “Doomsday Book,” a document Silva came across through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, which outlines the extensive emergency powers the Fed believes it possesses.
Among these are the abilities to bail out cities and take ownership of companies under specific circumstances, revealing a level of authority that many may find alarming.
Additionally, Silva sheds light on the mysterious dynamics of the Federal Reserve’s gold reserves. After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, concerns about the safety and sovereignty of national gold reserves stored at the Fed have intensified, prompting Silva to investigate the actual movements of these assets.
Despite efforts to obtain detailed records from the Fed through FOIA requests, the organization’s response has been less than forthcoming, citing jurisdictional issues with the New York Fed, which is not subject to FOIA.
Silva’s efforts highlight a broader issue of transparency within federal financial institutions. He advocates for a policy change that would make all federal records publicly accessible after a certain period, arguing that transparency is essential in a democratic society.
The podcast episode not only provides insights into the Federal Reserve’s operations but also underscores the challenges journalists face when trying to pry open the doors of powerful financial entities.
Silva’s ongoing quest for transparency exemplifies the crucial role of investigative journalism in holding institutions accountable and informing the public about the complex mechanisms that govern their economic environment.
Key Questions and Answers
Here are the key questions and answers from the Money Metals podcast interview between Mike Maharrey and Ken Silva:
Is the Federal Reserve truly an independent institution?
Ken Silva expressed skepticism about the Fed’s independence. He referenced economic literature indicating that the Fed often manipulates interest rates around election times, suggesting political influence.
What is the Doomsday Book, and what does it reveal about the Fed?
The Doomsday Book is an internal Federal Reserve document that Silva accessed through a FOIA request. It describes the extensive emergency powers the Fed believes it has, such as bailing out cities or taking ownership of companies under specific conditions. This document points to a significant level of authority and potential overreach by the Fed.
What prompted your investigation into the Federal Reserve’s gold holdings?
Silva’s interest was piqued by global events and changes in the storage of gold reserves at the Fed, particularly after the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He sought to understand the total foreign gold holdings at the Fed and how these might have been affected by international tensions and sanctions.
What are the challenges in obtaining information about the Fed’s gold reserves?
Ken Silva faced difficulties obtaining detailed information about the Federal Reserve’s gold holdings through a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request because the Federal Reserve Board directed him to the New York Fed, which is not subject to FOIA.
The Federal Reserve Board conveniently claimed that while it oversees the system, the New York Federal Reserve, which actually holds the gold and the relevant records, operates as a separate entity and thus falls outside the scope of FOIA requirements.
This jurisdictional nuance creates a significant barrier to transparency, as the regional banks like the New York Fed are not legally obligated to comply with FOIA requests.
How does the Fed justify its non-compliance with FOIA requests?
The Fed argues that while the Federal Reserve Board is subject to FOIA, its regional banks, such as the New York Fed that holds the gold, are not. However, recent policy changes suggest these regional banks will try to comply with the spirit of FOIA, which might offer a new avenue for Silva to challenge their lack of transparency.
What are your views on government secrecy and the public’s right to information?
Silva advocates for greater transparency, proposing that all government records should eventually be declassified. He criticizes the excessive secrecy and the use of national security as a justification to withhold information from the public, emphasizing the need for balance between security and transparency.
These questions and answers highlight the central themes of the interview, focusing on the Federal Reserve’s transparency, its political independence, and the broader implications for democratic accountability.
Summary
Silva’s investigations reveal the Fed’s substantial, often hidden powers and the challenges faced in accessing transparent information.
This discussion not only highlights the complexities of monetary policy and its intersection with politics but also underscores the critical role of investigative journalism in ensuring governmental accountability.
As they peel back layers of bureaucratic secrecy, Silva’s findings provoke serious questions about the Federal Reserve’s role and its impact on global financial stability.
