US To Deploy Controversial Typhon Missile System to Japan for First Time

(Dave DeCamp, Antiwar.com) The US Army announced on Friday that it will be deploying the controversial Typhon missile system to Japan for drills in September, a move strongly condemned by Russia and China.

The Typhon, also known as Mid-Range Capability, is a land-based missile launcher that can fire nuclear-capable Tomahawk missiles, which have a range exceeding 1,000 miles, and SM-6 missiles, which can hit targets up to 290 miles away. The missile system would have been banned under the Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, a treaty with Russia that the US withdrew from in 2019.

According to Stars and Stripes, the Typhon is being deployed to a US Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, about 25 miles southeast of Hiroshima, which puts mainland China and parts of eastern Russia in range if the system is armed with Typhons.

The drills for which the Typhon is being deployed will be held from September 11 to September 25, but that doesn’t mean the missile system will return to the US at the conclusion of the exercises. A Typhon that the US deployed to the Philippines for drills in April 2024 remains in the country to this day, and there is talk of the US potentially sending another one.

“China always opposes the United States deploying the Typhon Mid-Range Capability missile system in Asian countries,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Friday in response to the news about the Typhon deployment to Japan.

“We urge Japan to take a hard look at its history of aggression, follow the path of peaceful development, act prudently in military and security areas, and refrain from further losing the trust of its Asian neighbours and the international community,” Guo added.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow viewed the deployment as “another destabilising step as part of Washington’s course toward ramping up the potential of ground-based shorter and intermediate-range missiles.” She added that deploying Typhons “in regions near Russia poses a direct strategic threat to Russia” and noted Japan’s “accelerated militarization” in cooperation with the US.

Russia recently announced that it is no longer bound by a self-imposed moratorium on the deployment of missile systems that were previously banned by the INF Treaty. The US has previously deployed a Typhon system to Denmark for drills and plans a long-term deployment of a Typhon or another system with a similar range in Germany by 2026.

(Dave DeCamp, Antiwar.com) An Israeli official told The Associated Press on Saturday that Israel is planning to halt or slow the meager aid supplies that are entering Gaza City and other parts of northern Gaza as Israel is expanding its military offensive amid a famine in the area.

The UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) and the US-funded Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS Net) have both determined that famine is taking place in the Gaza Governorate, which includes Gaza City. In the areas to the north of Gaza City, the hunger monitors say famine is likely occurring and may actually be worse, but they lack the data to make a formal declaration.

The Israeli official speaking to the AP said that in the coming days, Israel would stop allowing aid drops over Gaza City and start limiting the number of trucks that can enter northern Gaza, steps that will ensure more people will starve to death. A day earlier, the Israeli military said it would stop so-called “humanitarian pauses” of its attacks in Gaza City and declared the entire city a “combat zone.”

The IDF is trying to force the more than 1 million Palestinian civilians sheltering in Gaza City to southern Gaza as part of its plans to take over the city and raze it to the ground. The Israeli military estimates that just 10,000 Palestinians have fled Gaza City and headed south since it announced its plans to forcibly displace the civilian population and ramped up its bombing of the city.

Palestinian civilians in Gaza City aren’t leaving for a number of reasons, including the fact that Israel continues to bomb southern Gaza, meaning there’s nowhere safe to go. Aid groups say that southern Gaza doesn’t have the capacity to absorb another mass displacement.

Many sick and malnourished civilians don’t have the strength for another forced displacement, which would likely be a death sentence for people already struggling to survive. Palestinians also believe that once they leave Gaza City, they will never be able to return, as Israeli officials have made clear their ultimate goal is the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian territory.

Germans Accused of Blocking Right-Wing Candidate over ‘Lord of the Rings’ Fandom

(Ben Sellers, Headline USA) Journalist Michael Shellenberger revealed in a blog post and accompanying X thread on Friday that Germany was violating the NATO charter by blocking a rigth-wing political candidate over his love of Lord of the Rings.

Joachim Paul, a mayoral candidate in Ludwigshafen, was told he could not run in the Sept. 21 race after the German interior minister declared him to be a threat to the constitution, Shellenberger wrote.

Its evidence was Paul’s praise of an Amazon mini-series inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic fantasy novel in a 2022 review for an Austrian magazine.

“The protagonists in ‘Lord of the Rings’ fight for a cause that is greater than themselves,” he wrote, adding that “the homeland, the continuation of their culture, a just order, the defense against a world danger. They are prepared to risk their lives for it.”

Paul also was accused of flashing the “white power” symbol after using an “OK” hand gesture—echoing a claim previously made against U.S. President Donald Trump.

Paul denied allegations of supporting nationalism—although he is running as candidate on the Alternative for Germany (AfD) ticket, which advocates for “Germany First” policies like deporting immigrants back to their native countries.

“The intent was to draw a picture of me as somebody who is far right,” he said. Neither “[U.S. Vice President] J.D. Vance nor Giorgia Maloni [sic], the president of Italy, couldn’t run for office in Ludwigshafen.”

In February, Vance traded sharp words with Germany about its censorship while attending the Munich Security Conference. Its organizers banned members of populist parties, including the AfD, from attending.

“For many of us on the other side of the Atlantic it looks more and more like old entrenched interests hiding behind ugly Soviet era words like ‘misinformation’ or ‘disinformation’ who simply don’t like the idea that somebody might express a different opinion—or, God forbid, vote a different way or, even worse, win an election,” Vance said.

In addition to Germany, Shellenberger warned that France was once again attempting to suppress right-wing opposition candidates from its elections.

The globalist effort to subvert the democratic process by declaring conservative candidates as too dangerous to participate echoes some of the efforts that the radical Left waged on Trump prior to his reelection last November.

Lawfare activists and Democrat officials tried in several states to have him excluded from the ballot by claiming he was an “insurrectionist,” and figures including then-President Joe Biden routinely referred to him as a “Nazi” and a “threat to democracy” while showing little self-awareness.

Exculpatory Evidence Revealed in Case of Election-Theft Whistleblower Tina Peters

(Ben Sellers, Headline USA) The patriotic whistleblower who received nine years for trying to expose voting-machine vulnerabilities in Colorado may soon be vindicated.

Sheriff Dar Leaf, of Barry County in southwest Michigan, posted an April 2021 email correspondence between Jessi Romero, of Colorado’s Secretary of State’s office, and two staffers from Dominion Voting Systems that appeared to provide exculpatory evidence for whistleblower Tina Peters.

The email suggests that Mesa County used uncertified software that may have violated federal election-security protocols in the 2020 election, potentially justifying the efforts by Peters to expose election-fraud gaslighters.

“My office is referring the following evidence related to the Colorado SOS and Dominion for federal investigation,” Leaf wrote in his X post.

He noted that prosecutors had failed to make Peters’s defense team aware of the evidence, thereby violating her due process rights and invalidating her conviction.

Peters served as an election clerk for Mesa County in 2020. Following widespread reports of irregularities that were linked to Dominion, she was prosecuted for breaching the system during a 2021 update and allowing MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell to access a copy of the data as part of his privately funded effort to expose vote fraud.

Peters received a nine-year sentence stemming from her felony conviction, while Dominion received a hefty settlement from BlackRock-owned Fox News after claiming defamation. The Denver-based company’s unrelenting lawfare attacks effectively chilled any mainstream media desire to report on voting-machine irregularities—despite their regularly having done so before the 2020 election.

Lindell was forced to pay $2.3 million to a Dominion employee but claimed victory after the jury awarded just a small fraction of the $62.7 million sought by Eric Coomer, a Dominion “election security” specialist who had posted publicly about his hatred of President Donald Trump.

Leaf previously helped expose the fact that nearly half of the parts used by Dominion came from China-linked sources.

He also has highlighted evidence showing that foreign nationals accessed the equipment during the 2020 election.

After winning re-election in 2024, President Donald Trump reportedly directed the federal Justice Department to explore ways of freeing Peters. However, because her case was prosecuted at the state level, Trump does not have the ability to pardon her, and current Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, is unlikely to do so.

The Trump administration is also gearing up on its efforts to assure a secure 2026 midterm election. The president recently appointed watchdog Heather Honey to serve as election-integrity czar through the Department of Homeland Security.

The exculpatory evidence for Peters ironically comes as evidence mounts implicating Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold in the cover-up of an election-stealing attempt ahead of the 2024 election.

Griswold’s office provided election codes in a hidden tab of a spreadsheet document that was posted on its website for months until state Republicans called attention to it a week before Election Day.

Deputy Secretary of State Chris Beall subsequently admitted in a call with Democrat election officials that Griswold’s office had quietly attempted to cover up the scandal in order to avoid a “media storm.”

Houthi Leader Vows Attacks on Israel Will Continue after Israeli Killing of Yemeni Prime Minister

(Dave DeCamp, Antiwar.com) The leader of Yemen’s Houthis, officially known as Ansar Allah, vowed on Sunday that the campaign against Israel that was launched in support of the Palestinians in Gaza would continue despite the Israeli assassination of the prime minister of the Houthi-led Yemeni government.

“Yemen’s position towards the Palestinian people is firm and cannot be reversed. Our people say to the Palestinian people: We are with you and we support you,” Abdul Malik al-Houthi said in a speech where he offered condolences for the family of Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and other government ministers who were killed by August 28 Israeli airstrikes on the Yemeni capital of Sanaa.

“The military path in targeting the Israeli enemy, whether with missiles, drones, or a naval blockade, is continuous and unwavering,” al-Houthi added, according to Al Mayadeen.

Al-Rahawi was a civilian official who was not considered part of al-Houthi’s inner circle. He was tasked with running the day-to-day affairs in Sanaa and other areas of Houthi-controlled Yemen, which is where about 70% to 80% of Yemenis live, according to numbers from the US State Department. The Houthis have been the governing authority in the area since 2014, when they first took power in Sanaa after ousting a US and Saudi-backed government, which a US-backed Saudi-UAE-led coalition attempted and failed to reinstall in a brutal war from 2015 to 2022.

Mohammad al-Bukhaiti, a senior Ansar Allah official, suggested that the Houthis could escalate their attacks on Israel in response to the killing of al-Rahawi. “Targeting the government meeting is a crossing of red lines,” he said on Saturday. “The war has entered a new phase, and revenge must be taken; our actions will precede our words.”

The Houthis are known for their resilience and did not back down in the face of a very heavy US bombing campaign that the Trump administration conducted from March 15 to May 6, which killed more than 250 civilians. The US gave up on trying to get the Houthis to stop their attacks on Israel and their blockade of Israeli shipping and agreed to a ceasefire with the group.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to kill more senior Yemeni officials at a cabinet meeting on Sunday. “We are doing what no one else has done before us, and this is only the beginning of the strikes against the senior leadership in Sanaa,” he said, according to The New York Times. “We will get to them all.”

The only thing that has gotten the Houthis to stop their attacks was the brief ceasefire in Gaza that started in January 2025 and ended when Israel restarted its genocidal war in March.

Joy Reid Admits She Cheated to Get into Ivy League School

(Ben Sellers, Headline USA) A clip of former MSNBC star Joy Reid admitting she cheated to get into Harvard University went viral on Friday, drawing backlash from prominent conservative pundits.

Reid unabashedly declared that she had been a beneficiary of controversial “diversity, equity and inclusion” policies—implying that she was incapable of getting admitted on her own merit.

However, she maintained that it was nothing to feel ashamed or insulted about.

“As many times as I have been called DEI or an affirmative action baby and all that, you know what? I never get mad because I actually am very much in favor of DEI … And yeah, I am DEI,” Reid said.

“I bring in diversity, and that’s bringing something great,” she continued. “You’re not insulting me if you say, ‘Oh, you were an affirmative action person that got into Harvard.’ I’m like, yeah, I got into a Harvard with affirmative action and Yale, uh, and Brown, and also, you know, Vassar, you know, and the University of Denver.”

Due to weak ratings, Reid was fired from her MSNBC show in February and bid a tearful goodbye. But she has refused to fade away with dignity, instead ranting to an audience of more than 257,000 YouTube subscribers.

The undated clip, posted to the popular End Wokeness account on X, appeared to come from Reid’s new podcast.

In addition to a sweatshirt promoting her new show, Reid—who once appropriated President Donald Trump’s hairdo—dons an “FDT” cap, appropriating a conservative fashion statement that began with “FJB” apparel during the Biden presidency, as critics feared they would be censored for speaking out.

The viral clip of Reid embracing her DEI dependency was mocked by black conservatives, including rising star C.J. Pearson and popular podcasters the Hodge Twins.

“Yes, Joy, we are perfectly aware,” Pearson wrote, followed by a cry–laughing emoji.

The Hodge Twins, Keith and Kevin, likewise posted to the clip to social media, providing the full text of Reid’s comments followed by four cry–laugh emojis.

Reid, who received her bachelor’s degree in visual and environmental studies from Harvard in 1991, has boasted previously about how her racial identity gave her an advantage over white and Asian students under the “affirmative action” policies at Harvard.

The Supreme Court banned the practice in 2023’s Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard. However, many schools have continued to hide the practices by using euphemisms like “diversity,” resulting in threats of defunding and lawsuits and by the Trump administration.

Reid told fellow MSNBC host Chris Hayes in 2023 that the lack of belonging she sensed among her fellow students had initially hurt her feelings.

“It was one of the many reasons I was miserable there my freshman year—you felt completely out of place,” she said. “People kept telling me, ‘You shouldn’t be here.’”

Despite all odds, Reid rose to the ranks of MSNBC by making race-baiting her stock and trade, while often subverting conservative criticism by parroting her opponents’ rhetorical tactics to reach spurious conclusions.

Conservative thinker Victor Davis Hanson, a scholar at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, recently slammed Reid for having made the Left openly racist after she attacked white musicians like Elvis Presley.

“We’re getting very dangerous in this DEI movement as it starts to emit its death throes, as it’s challenged for being racist—which it is” Hanson said.

“It’s a racial essentialism; people who defend it double down, and they double down in a way that’s very injurious for the rest of the country,” he added. “So, Joy Reid is basically saying that black people are cognitively superior to other people.”

Noem Accuses CBS News of Going Back to Its Old Editing Tricks

(Ben Sellers, Headline USA) Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem accused CBS News of being back to its old tricks after it edited an interview to paint gang-affiliated El Salvadoran national Kilmar Abrego Garcia in a more favorable light.

“This morning, I joined CBS to report the facts about Kilmar Abrego Garcia,” Noem wrote in a post on X. “Instead, CBS shamefully edited the interview to whitewash the truth about this MS-13 gang member and the threat he poses to American public safety.”

Noem offered a litany of offenses to justify the ongoing detention of Abrego Garcia, who is facing possible deportation to Uganda after activist judges demanded his return from El Salvador.

“The one thing that we will continue to do is make sure he doesn’t walk free in the United States of America,” Noem said during an appearance Sunday on “Face the Nation.”

“This individual was a known human smuggler, MS-13 gang member and an individual who was a wife beater and someone so perverted that he solicited nude photos from minors,” she continued. “Even his fellow traffickers told him to knock it off. He was sick with what he was doing and how he was treating small children. So, he needs to never be in the United States of America, and our administration is making sure we’re doing all that we can to bring him to justice”

The edited version of the CBS News clip included only the first sentence before cutting away to another question.

It is unclear whether CBS may have cut the response for legal reasons after Abrego Garcia’s legal team asked a federal judge earlier in the week to impose a gag order on Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi.

The allegation comes less than two months since its parent company, Paramount, settled a $16 million lawsuit with President Donald Trump over the deceptive editing of a “60 Minutes” interview with Democrat candidate Kamala Harris.

That fueled speculation that part of the settlement may have required the network to pull the plug on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” although others say Colbert’s poor ratings were to blame.

“South Park,” the 27-year-old satirical cartoon that has long aired on Comedy Central, also faced apparent pressure over the Paramount settlement. Rumors circulated that it might be canceled before the show’s creators reached a new deal to continue through Trump’s current presidential term.

The show’s first few episodes of the season have lashed out at Trump for his score-settling efforts, while doubling down on its puerile humor by going after Trump’s genitalia and suggesting he was in bed with Satan—a joke it first used in reference to Saddam Hussein during the George W. Bush era.

One episode also lampooned Noem, suggesting that her face frequently melted off her body and had to be reapplied by make-up artists.

Noem initially lashed out, calling the show “lazy” before following the lead of pundit Charlie Kirk by posting an image of her “South Park” caricature as her own social-media avatar.

DHS also used a spoof commercial from the “South Park” episode as an actual recruitment ad for new ICE agents.

Ex-FBI Director Robert Mueller Reportedly Has Parkinson’s Disease

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) The New York Times reported Sunday that former FBI Director Robert Mueller was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease four years ago.

“Bob was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in the summer of 2021,” the family said reportedly in a statement to The New York Times. “He retired from the practice of law at the end of that year. He taught at his law school alma mater during the fall of both 2021 and 2022, and he retired at the end of 2022. His family asks that his privacy be respected.”

The House Oversight Committee recently said that it would subpoena him to testify about the FBI’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case. Epstein was first charged with soliciting a minor in 2006, during Mueller’s tenure. The family’s statement is apparently in response to the House committee’s subpoena.

Earlier this month, RealClearInvestigations reporter Paul Sperry broke the news that “Mueller has been living in a memory-care facility for the past few years.”

Mueller was FBI director from 2001 to 2013, and he later led the federal probe into the debunked and fabricated allegations of collusion between President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and the Russian government. The investigation spanned from 2017 to 2019, consuming nearly the entirety of Trump’s first term.

Lesser known is the fact that Mueller also ran a program to stage neo-Nazi rallies throughout the country when he was FBI director in the mid-2000s. Headline USA exposed Mueller’s program in an investigation last year.

Rudy Giuliani Breaks His Back in Nasty Car Crash

(Headline USA) Rudy Giuliani is recovering from a fractured vertebra and other injuries following a car crash in New Hampshire, a spokesperson for the former New York City mayor said Sunday.

Giuliani’s vehicle was struck from behind while traveling on a highway Saturday evening, according to a statement posted on X by Michael Ragusa, Giuliani’s head of security.

“He sustained injuries but is in good spirits and recovering tremendously,” Ragusa said, adding: “This was not a targeted attack.”

Giuliani, 81, was taken to a nearby trauma center and was being treated for injuries including “a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg,” according to Ragusa.

Prior to the accident, Giuliani had been “flagged down by a woman who was the victim of a domestic violence incident” and contacted police assistance on her behalf, Ragusa said. After police arrived, Giuliani continued on his way and his vehicle was hit shortly after pulling onto the highway and was “entirely unrelated” to the domestic violence incident, Ragusa told The Associated Press in an emailed statement.

Giuliani was in a rental car and “no one knew it was him,” Ragusa also said in the post on X.

Another Giuliani spokesperson, Ted Goodman, and New Hampshire State Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment and additional details about the domestic incident and crash.

“Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my Father,” Andrew Giuliani, Rudy Giuliani’s son, wrote in post on X. “Your prayers mean the world.”

DOJ Urges Federal Judge to Strike Down Climate Change Law

(Chris Wade, The Center Square) The Trump administration is asking a federal judge to invalidate a New York law that seeks to punish fossil fuel companies for their alleged role in climate change.

In a motion for summary judgment, filed late Friday, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division asked a U.S. District Court judge to “end New York’s lawless overreach” by “declaring the Superfund Act invalid and unenforceable, and permanently enjoining Defendants from taking any actions to implement or enforce it.”

“New York has declared war on those responsible for supplying our nation with reliable and affordable energy, and it is trampling over federal law in the process,” the filing states.

In May, the DOJ filed lawsuits against New York and Vermont, arguing that state laws requiring oil companies to contribute billions of dollars into funds to pay for damage caused by climate change were unconstitutional.

The legal challenge against New York alleges that the state’s “superfund” law is a “transparent monetary-extraction scheme” designed to fund the state’s infrastructure projects with money from out-of-state businesses.

“The Superfund Act is a brazen attempt to grab power from the federal government and force citizens of other States and nations to foot the bill for its infrastructure wish list,” the DOJ wrote in the 29-page complaint.

In both lawsuits, the Justice Department cited a Jan. 20 executive order signed by President Donald Trump declaring a national energy emergency to speed up permitting of energy projects, roll back environmental protections, and withdraw from an international pact to fight climate change. DOJ lawyers allege that the state climate change laws imperil domestic energy production.

New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, signed by then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2019, requires the state to reduce its excess greenhouse gas emissions and authorizes it to seek up to $75 billion in damages from fossil fuel companies. Regulations for the new law have yet to be issued, which prompted a lawsuit from green groups seeking the state to post them.

New York is also facing a lawsuit filed by 22 Republican attorneys general who argue that the law will do little to blunt the impact of climate change while passing on the costs to the state’s consumers in the form of higher energy bills. The outcome of that case is still pending.

Acting Assistant Attorney General Adam Gustafson said New York has “overstepped its authority in trying to impose crippling financial penalties on the world’s largest energy providers” and said the court must act to prevent further damage to the fossil fuel industry.

“Individual states have no authority to regulate nationwide and global greenhouse gas emissions,” he said in a statement. “The courts must put a stop to New York’s brazen disregard of federal law, the Constitution, and binding precedent, not to mention our Nation’s energy needs.”
