DOJ Flips Off SCOTUS, Pushes Forward with Obstruction Charges

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The DOJ is defiantly planning to move forward with the Jan. 6-related obstruction charges against defendants Don and Shawndale Chilcoat, even after the Supreme Court ruled that its broad interpretation of obstruction law was unlawful.

In June, the high court ruled that for prosecutors to pursue charges of obstruction of an official proceeding, they needed to demonstrate that the defendants impaired a document or evidence used in such a proceeding.

Prosecutors had previously claimed that merely disrupting the Jan. 6 certification of the 2020 election constituted an obstruction violation. Under the new court order, prosecutors began to drop charges related to the law.

Roughly 259 individuals had been charged with the obstruction violation, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years of imprisonment.

Enter the Chilcoat couple.

According to court documents reviewed by Headline USA, they were originally charged with counts of entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly conduct, entering and remaining in the Gallery of Congress, disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, parade, demonstrate or picket in the Capitol building and obstruction of any official proceeding.

In filings, prosecutors argued they had sufficient evidence to win a conviction against the Chilcoats.

“The government understands that the Court wants to have confidence that the facts here give rise to a triable case,” prosecutors wrote in a motion to U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, according to WUSA-9.

“Through their conduct, the defendants demonstrated an intent to invade and occupy the Capitol building and to stop the certification of the electoral college vote,” the prosecutors added. “And, critically, they were aware that this proceeding involved records, documents, or other things—specifically, the electoral votes that Congress was to consider.”

The Chilcoats will likely head to trial in 2025.

Elon Musk Says He’d Accept Trump Cabinet Role: ‘Willing to Serve’

(Headline USA) Former President Donald Trump said this week he would consider appointing billionaire Elon Musk to a Cabinet role or prominent advisory position if elected in November.

Musk—the owner of Twitter, Tesla, Spacex and other cutting-edge companies—endorsed Trump following the July 13 assassination attempt and has pledged millions of dollars to a super PAC supporting the GOP nominee’s president’s campaign.

Speaking with Reuters this week, Trump said he’d offer Musk a position if Musk expressed serious interest in one.

”He’s a very smart guy. I certainly would—if he would do it, I certainly would,” Trump said. “He’s a brilliant guy.”

In response, Musk shared an AI picture of himself standing at a lectern that reads “Department of Government Efficiency” and said, “I am willing to serve.”

Trump also said he would consider tossing the Biden administration’s electric vehicle tax credits, which could affect Tesla.

However, he has reasoned that the government’s meddling in the free market actually harmed the company, which was flourishing before other auto manufacturers began producing cheaper EV alternatives.

“Tax credits and tax incentives are not generally a very good thing,” Trump explained.

Last week, Musk and Trump held a two-hour conversation on X, which covered a variety of different policy issues, including the national debt. Musk suggested Trump should create a commission to study government spending and threw his name out there for a seat on it.

“I think it would be great to just have a government efficiency commission that looks at these things to make sure taxpayer money is spent in a good way,” Musk told Trump. “I’d be happy to help out on such a commission.”

Musk has blasted Vice President Kamala Harris, the newly anointed Democrat presidential nominee, as an “extinctionist” and socialist, arguing that the U.S.—and even the rest of the world—would not survive a Harris presidency.

“Shamala is an extinctionist. The natural extension of her philosophy would be a de facto holocaust for all of humanity!” he said last month.

Musk’s appointment could potentially add to what is shaping up to be a brain-trust of high-profile, red-pilled liberals after rumors swirled Wednesday that political scion Robert F. Kennedy Jr. might abandon his independent run and endorse Trump.

Several prominent conservatives suggested that Kennedy, who believes the CIA had a hand in the assassination of his father and uncle, should be appointed its new director.

Among those was another political scion whose father fell victim to a highly suspicious assassination attempt: Donald Trump Jr.

Rep. Dean Phillips Blasts Dems for Coronating Biden, Then Kamala: ‘Democratic Disaster’

(Headline USA) Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., the only Democrat lawmaker to run a primary campaign against President Joe Biden, blasted his party this week for coronating Vice President Kamala Harris after Biden dropped out.

“My core principle is that competition is the vitamin of democracy and that, yes, we should have run a different process from the beginning, which was simply to invite other candidates,” Phillips told Breitbart News at the Democratic National Convention.

“That didn’t happen,” he added.

The Democrat said he believes Harris is the best replacement for Biden, but he warned that his party was “this close to what I’d call another democratic disaster” as it attempts to astroturf her heavily scripted campaign and avoid answering any difficult questions.

The party should be “enhancing competition, encouraging debate, welcoming candidates, not suppressing and not discouraging” a robust primary process, he argued.

Yet with Biden during the 2024 Democratic primary and with Harris after Biden dropped out, DNC brass tacitly discouraged challengers in the interest of party unity.

Phillips said he felt vindicated for being willing to challenge Biden during the primary—even though party elites were determined to coronate the 81-year-old president, who showed obvious signs of cognitive decline.

“‘I told you so’ has never served me well, and I think we can all relate to that in our personal and professional relationships,” Phillips said.

He added that many of his relationships with Democratic colleagues have since been restored.

“Just on a very personal, human level, it feels good, kind of like being back at the popular table in the cafeteria,” Phillips joked.

After launching his primary campaign against Biden, Phillips was pressured to resign from House Democratic leadership.

“My convictions relative to the 2024 presidential race are incongruent with the majority of my caucus, and I felt it appropriate to step aside from elected leadership to avoid unnecessary distractions during a critical time for our country,” he said in a statement at the time.

Hug! Hug! Hug! Trump Flouts New Security Mandates to Comfort Rallygoer in Distress

(Elias Irizarry, Headline USA) ASHEBORO, N.C.–As the Democratic National Convention in Chicago sought to bring Vice President Kamala Harris’s pop-up presidential campaign to the forefront, former President Donald Trump has undertaken a counterprogramming effort that added new levels of on-message discipline and policy emphasis to his discursive oratorical style.

Even so, it was an impromptu hug with an elderly rallygoer on Wednesday that may have had the most enduring impact.

Although it sent Secret Service scrambling, the moment offered a poignant visual contrast to the heightened security measures Trump now faces following a July 13 assassination attempt.

The rally at North Carolina’s Aviation Museum & Hall of Fame was Trump’s first to be held outdoors since the fatal shooting in Butler, Pa., which killed audience member Corey Comperatore and left two others critically injured.

Taking the podium behind a bullet-proof panel, Trump championed his first term’s national security accomplishments, as well as laying out what a future administration’s policies would look like.

The former president additionally blasted Harris for her administration’s failures regarding national security, accusing her and President Joe Biden of bringing the world to the “brink of World War III.”

He shamed the two for failing to deliver accountability for the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal that resulted in the death of 13 service members, noting that nobody had been fired for the chaos that ensued at the Kabul airport.

“Under my leadership, we were getting out of Afghanistan—but we were going to get out with dignity, pride and with strength,” Trump said. “When I left office, we had not lost a single service member in Afghanistan in 18 months, and then we had that horrible day.”

He also called for the resignation of all the commanding officials responsible for the incident, noting the importance of having intelligent and strategic military officers rather than weak ones.

While the United States may have the best military in the world, that title goes to waste if it doesn’t have strong leaders in charge, Trump reasoned.

During his first term as president, “We defeated ISIS, we killed the world’s top terrorists, we achieved energy independence, we stood up to China … and we didn’t start wars,” Trump boasted, contrasting the leaders that he had under his administration with the woke officials currently running the Pentagon.

Trump additionally invited local sheriffs to stand beside him on the stage and praised them as the “reason that we’re able to be here and have a safe state—and a great state.”

Still, he struggled to reconcile his normal hands-on interaction with supporters in the audience and the security demands being foisted on him by the Secret Service.

“These are great people, but I wanna get them the hell off this stage because I guarantee, they didn’t have this in mind when they built this,” joked Trump about the ballistic wall.

Efforts to rein in the GOP nominee failed, however, when Trump left his protected space to console a member of the crowd who had fainted during the rally, hugging the woman, who had been given water, after being yelled out to by members of the audience.

Secret Service descended upon the scene to surround the former president during his embrace.

Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, also spoke at the rally. While it was Trump’s third visit, at least, to the battleground state since announcing his pick of Vance, it marked the first time the two had spoken together at an event in North Carolina.

Vance criticized the Biden–Harris administration for their failure to curb illegal immigration and warned that a future Harris administration would make the Southern border look like “Walmart on Black Friday.”

“Let’s be honest, folks. Mean tweets and world peace has a pretty nice ring to it—and I think we ought to bring it back,” he said.

Despite the strict measures taken by the Secret Service, local police arrested two individuals who allegedly brought weapons to the rally, according to Newsweek.

“I can tell you that one person is apparently being charged, and no one was injured,” said Assistant Chief Jay Hanson of the Asheboro Police Department.

Local police have not yet disclosed the type of weapons brought to the rally, and those arrested have not been identified.

Pa. Judge Delivers Big Win for Election Integrity

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) Republicans won the election integrity battle when a Pennsylvania judge upheld a decision from the Butler County Board of Elections that bars voters from “curing” their defective mail-in ballots that lack inner secrecy envelopes, also known as “naked ballots.”

The state requires votes by mail to have ballots inside an inner secrecy envelope.

Democracy Docket said that before the election day, “the plaintiffs submitted mail-in ballots without an inner secrecy envelope, and the board of elections rejected them,” adding that to “cure their ballots, both voters submitted provisional ballots on Election Day,” which resulted in the board deciding not to count the voters’ provisional ballots.

“The actions of the Board in adopting a narrow cure policy that applies in such a way as to uphold voting deadlines and ensure secrecy in voting is maintained, but that allows electors the greatest possible chance of having their vote counted, does not violate either the Election Code or the Free and Equal clause of the Pennsylvania Constitution,” Judge S. Michael Yeager wrote.

He added that it is the “voter’s burden to ensure they have completed the steps necessary for their mail-in ballot to be included in the tabulation.”

“There can be no dispute that the unequivocal law of Pennsylvania is that secrecy envelopes are required, and any mail-in ballot received without a secrecy envelope cannot be counted,” the Republican National Committee and Pennsylvania GOP wrote in a prior petition to Judge Yeager.

Republicans then stated that “the Department of State has taken it upon itself to unilaterally reach out to voters whose mail-in ballots have been rejected due to a perceived lack of a secrecy envelope and encourage them to cure such ballots by appearing in person and voting provisionally.”

After stating that there is no “right under Pennsylvania law to cure mail-in ballots which lack a secrecy envelope and Petitioners’ attempt to create such a right where none exists should be rejected,” Republicans continued defending their position.

“The Republican Committees have a clear and obvious interest in the issues presented in this suit and in ensuring that this issue is properly and fairly litigated to ensure that Pennsylvania law regarding a county board of elections’ right to govern how it will conduct elections is followed,” they wrote.

Republicans then stated that they also have a right to intervene in this suit because they “seek to uphold the Election Code under which they, their voters, their member, and their candidates exercise their constitutional rights to vote and to participate in elections in Pennsylvania.”

PBS Reporter Apologizes (Sort Of) for Fabricated Trump Ceasefire Claim

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) PBS anchor Judy Woodruff issued a mea culpa on Wednesday for falsely accusing former President Donald Trump of persuading Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to block a ceasefire deal with Hamas.

During a segment at the Democratic National Convention on Monday, Woodruff claimed that Trump had urged Netanyahu to reject a ceasefire until after the 2024 election, suggesting it would be politically advantageous for him.

But there was a major problem with Woodruff’s claims: both Trump and Netanyahu denied ever making such statements, prompting the PBS reporter to issue an apology on X.

“In the live TV moment, I repeated the story because I hadn’t seen later reporting that both sides denied it,” Woodruff wrote, garnering nearly 500,000 views. “This was a mistake and I apologize for it.”

Earlier in her statement, Woodruff clarified that her claims were “not based on my original reporting” but were instead regurgitated from Axios and Reuters reports about Trump’s conversations with Netanyahu.

At the heart of her mea culpa was her Monday claim: “The reporting is that former President Trump is on the phone with the prime minister of Israel, urging him not to cut a deal right now, because that’s… it’s believed that would help the Harris campaign.”

Neither Reuters nor Axios stipulated that Trump wanted a ceasefire after 2024. Tellingly, Woodruff did not respond to Headline USA’s specific questions about the sources of her claim. The email also inquired whether she plans to update her apology.

On Truth Social, Trump criticized Woodruff with a short but blunt statement: “More Fake News!” This response followed Netanyahu’s, who labeled Woodruff’s claims a “complete lie” in comments to The Jerusalem Post.

Woodruff’s false reporting contradicted Trump’s public comments urging Netanyahu to end the war between Israel and Hamas.

“I did encourage him to get this over with,” Trump said in July. “You want to get it over with fast. Have victory, get your victory, and get it over with. It has to stop, the killing has to stop.”

The conflict began after Hamas terrorists invaded southern Israel, viciously killing approximately 1,200 people on Oct. 7, 2023. Roughly 109 individuals remain in captivity in Gaza.

Fox News Boasts of Efforts to Court Democrats at DNC, but Risks Alienating Loyal Viewers

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Traditionally conservative cable news station Fox News intends to try to target centrists and leftists at this year’s Democratic National Convention, Axios reported.

Fox News anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum have been among the on-air talent in attendance at the DNC this year, interviewing major Democratic candidates and covering the events.

When asked about the coverage, Baier told reporters that the “fair and balanced” news network was making a concerted effort to appeal to a broader audience.

“I think if you build it, they will come,” Baier said. “And independents, Democrats are coming to our shows more and more.”

To some degree, Baier is right already. According a recent poll, Fox’s viewership is split 54% Republican, 22% Democrat and 28% independent.

Nonetheless, the overt push runs the risk of putting off its most loyal audience. During the 2020 election, the network drew heavy criticism—and even calls for a boycott—after a premature call on Arizona fueled suspicion that it was trying to undermine Republican President Donald Trump.

Fox’s record among conservatives has remained spotty since then, particularly after it fired several of its most popular hosts—including primetime star Tucker Carlson—and mysteriously settled a $787 million defamation suit with Dominion Voting Systems, all within a matter of weeks.

The rumors that hedge-fund company BlackRock may be using a 7% share of the company’s stock to put ESG pressure on Fox have persevered, particularly with its sympathetic coverage of Kamala Harris’s pop-up campaign.

Some speculate that former founding CEO Rupert Murdoch—who recently retired from his day to day operations—may have an interest in the Biden administration’s nation-building venture in Ukraine, which Trump—the GOP nominee for his third consecutive election cycle—and current running-mate JD Vance both oppose.

While Murdoch had lobbied Trump to select North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Trump’s choice of Vance was reportedly influenced heavily by Carlson.

Despite the risks involved, network execs such as Jessica Ketner, Fox’s vice president for media relations, seemed gung-ho about the prospect of a centrist shift.

In past years, Axios noted, Fox has managed to maintain or grow its audience as left-leaning outlets—including CNN and NBC—continue to announce mass layoffs and austerity measures, much to the chagrin of their employees.

Furthermore, Fox’s appeal comes even as it has already secured a massive audience, which the station has used to draw more politicians into interviews and appearances.

“Most politicians want to go where the eyeballs are,” Baier said. “They realize the power of reaching especially in swing states where we have a dominant viewing audience.”

The move may also be a decision by Fox to jockey for hosting a proposed debate between Trump and Harris in October.

According to McCallum, Fox News is in the best position of any cable news station to take advantage of big events and seek a broad audience.

“We’re seeing that when there are big news nights, we’re getting tuned in from all corners,” she noted. “And so I think that now in the cable news landscape when something big is happening, people turn on Fox.”

Hecklers Toss Maggots into DNC Breakfast Following Bomb Threats

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the malicious placement of maggots in the breakfast of delegates at the Democratic National Convention.

On Wednesday morning, delegates inside the Fairmont Hotel were preparing for breakfast when hotel administrators issued an urgent warning: the food had been contaminated with maggots.

According to DNC security, individuals reportedly stormed the hotel and placed unidentified substances on the tables containing food before quickly leaving the premises.

It was not immediately clear whether any delegates had consumed the contaminated food, but one person was treated and released at the scene, Chicago news channel WGN-9 reported on Wednesday.

A front desk receptionist at the Fairmont Hotel politely stated she was not authorized to speak on the incident when contacted by Headline USA. A call to the manager went unanswered.

The FBI’s Chicago office and the Chicago Police Department quickly responded to investigate the incident.

Fairmont Chicago hotel spokesperson Haley Robles confirmed the presence of individuals who sought to tamper with the meals.

“We can confirm that a group of individuals caused a disruption at a DNC-related breakfast event at our hotel this morning,” Robles said. “Our team acted immediately to clean and sanitize the area, ensuring that the event could continue without further incident.”

Indiana delegate Tracy Boyd praised the hotel staff for securing the premises and shielding the delegates from the suspects.

“They protected us, of course, and turned it around in minutes. I really do want to give a shout-out to the hotel staff and leadership,” Boyd said.

Echoing Boyd’s remarks, Indiana Democratic Party spokesperson Sam Barloga condemned the assailants in a statement. He called their tactics undemocratic.

“All Americans have the right to peaceful protest, but ugly attacks like this have no place in our democracy,” Barloga stated. “We thank the security team for responding swiftly.”

The specific intent behind the maggot incident remains unclear, but it mirrors a similar attack in July at a Washington, D.C., hotel where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was staying.

The maggot incident comes a day after the U.S. Secret Service and Chicago police investigated several bomb threats made against hotels near the Chicago area where the DNC is taking place.

These protests and threats are driven by opposition to U.S. support for Israel as it seeks to rescue hostages from the Gaza Strip.

On Oct. 7, Hamas terrorists killed roughly 1,200 individuals in southern Israel and took hundreds hostage to Gaza, where many remain in captivity.

Once-Disgraced Bill Clinton Gets Well-Timed Makeover for Kamala’s Desperate Campaign

(Ben Sellers, Headline USA) At their 2020 virtual convention, Democrats were close to permanently casting off former President Bill Clinton, finally relieved to be rid of the disgraced ex-leader whose presidential legacy was marred by his long-simmering reputation for sexual predation.

“Even abbreviated, Clinton’s appearance was tricky for his party,” the Associated Press noted in its writeup of his speech for the COVID-era convention, where Clinton pre-recorded a five-minute presentation that ran after one from former President Jimmy Carter.

The early-evening Tuesday slot “was all the former president was allotted by a party eager to show it is moving out of the politics of the past,” the AP declared.

“… Many Democrats are searching for new leaders, even as they nominate former Vice President Joe Biden, and pushing for a liberal agenda that leaves behind the centrist politics of the Clinton era,” it continued. “Further complicating the moment for Clinton is the #MeToo movement, which has forced some women to reevaluate Clinton’s history of sexual misconduct allegations.”

Just four years later, however, Democrats and their media allies are ready to rethink their priorities—and to reinvent themselves by once again embracing the man whom then-candidate Barack Obama dubbed the “secretary of explaining stuff” in 2012, while memory-holing the inconvenient truths that accompany him.

As for the 78-year-old Boomer ex-president, nicknamed the “Comeback Kid” during his own 1992 campaign, such rebranding has been central to his political career and marks yet another shift of the political tradewinds, propelled largely by the mainstream media’s hot air.

“Clinton’s stature as ex-president has evolved over the years, buffeted both by politics and the evolution of his legacy,” explained the AP in its most recent retrospective ahead of his convention speech.

With President Joe Biden becoming this year’s persona non grata at an opening-night spot that found him taking the stage well past 11 p.m. on Monday, Clinton is enjoying pride of place as a party patriarch.

“I think he’s very much an elder statesman and he’s a beloved figure, with a particular credibility on the economy,” Paul Begala, a Democratic strategist and former Clinton adviser, told the AP. “If I were a campaign manager, I’d send him anywhere.”

As one of Wednesday’s top-billed speakers, he will use his gifted oratory skills and record of governing as a center-stradling Southern populist who presided over a robust economy to vouch for the extreme-socialist ticket of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

Clinton’s forked, yet gilded tongue makes him an indispensable salesman for the Harris–Walz ticket, in which the current vice president—a last-minute substitution as the nominee—has already benefited from a whiplash-inducing media makeover of her own but remains untested by actual voters.

“If you give him some time, he can explain damn near anything and can make sometimes unappealing choices seem to be not just logical but inescapable,” said Russell Riley, a presidential scholar at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center.

Already, pollsters have used weighting and oversampling to give Harris an air of momentum, not unlike what former first lady Hillary Clinton enjoyed in the leadup to her 2016 race against Donald Trump—who is now the GOP nominee for the third consecutive presidential election cycle.

Meanwhile, dark-money billionaires have employed “smurfing” tactics by allegedly using ActBlue to conceal their contributions, and the leftist press has fallen in line once again, bestowing unprecedented levels of positive coverage for Harris, who was the least-popular presidential candidate in the 2020 Democratic primary and among the least popular vice presidents in modern history.

Undoubtedly, many in the media will attempt to draw parallels between Clinton and Walz—also scheduled to speak Wednesday—who has similarly adopted a folksy persona, although the Minnesota governor’s affectations come off far clumsier—more idiosyncratic and contrived—than those of “Slick Willy.”

Fittingly, both Walz and Clinton have maintained close ties with the Chinese communist government, which is likely to be a major factor in funding the Harris–Walz campaign and, should Democrats be re-elected to the White House, in a future administration, as China grows increasingly aggressive about its imperialist ambitions, both within its own sphere of influence and throughout the globe.

While the China issue—and overall economic policies—thus far have been among the rare liabilities for Walz and Harris, few—if any—have the same level of talent that Clinton does for spinning manure into gold, as Terry McAuliffe—a former Clinton bundler and close confidante who went on to chair the Democratic National Committee and become governor of Virginia—can attest.

“Nobody has the ability to encapsulate very complex issues … and explain it in ordinary terms,” McAuliffe told the AP. “He’s the best at that—on why it matters to you and everybody.”

Trump Surges Ahead of Kamala in Betting Markets After Insane DNC

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) People may lie when asked who they will vote for in the 2024 election in some polls, but the truth is revealed as soon as people start betting their money on who will win.

Horse traders think Donald Trump will win the White House this year after witnessing the disastrous Democratic National Convention this week.

According to Polymarket, where bettors can stake wages on whether Trump or Kamala Harris will win the election, Trump now carries a lead of 52% to 47%, a radical change in pre-DNC figures showing him trailing Harris 48% to 52%, respectively.

Trending Politics reported that this nine-point swing is a remarkable indictment of how the market judges this week’s DNC charade in Chicago. It was reported that over $681 million had been staked on the betting site.

Critics contrasted the riots, teleprompter glitches and long programming delays at the DNC with last month’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, which largely ran on time and drew millions of viewers.

“Shouldn’t they have a convention bump?” one person responded to the news.

Others pointed out that it is not over, implying that Trump would become even more popular after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was allegedly supposed to endorse him on Aug. 23, 2024.

“Wait until RFK endorses him on Friday. Massive jump,” the person wrote.

Harris, who is expected to speak on Aug. 22, 2024, still avoids journalists like a plague, instead relying on her spokesman, Michael Tyler, to make vague statements about when she would finally agree to be interviewed.

The news source added that the next opportunity for markets to judge Trump and Harris side-by-side will be during the ABC News debate on Sept. 10, 2024.

Observers will watch closely to see whether Harris can string together enough talking points and far-left policy positions to survive the two-hour debate. Harris is expected to face criticism for her role as the administration’s “border czar.”

During his recent press conference, Trump stated that Harris is “not very smart,” contrasting his winding, hour-long appearance with her lack of transparency.
