Western N.C. Hurricane Victims Thank Trump for Giving Them a ‘Shot of Hope’

(Ben Sellers, Headline USA) Former President Donald Trump may have had to contend with a none-too-delighted Secret Service on Monday after a visit to western North Carolina that, logistically speaking, seemed not to live up to the newly enhanced security standards.

Despite the presence of snipers on a nearby roof and what appeared to be helicopter air support, Trump’s noontime remarks to media in Swannanoa, N.C., lacked the same rigorous screenings, secured perimeter and bulletproof glass that have become normal protocol in recent weeks.

The piles of debris dotting the landscape undoubtedly made the security sweep a bigger headache than usual, even as the embattled agency has struggled to secure Trump’s own West Palm Beach golf course from dangerous assassins.

Moreover, while the event may have been intended as a low-key affair for invited media and guests, some local residents caught wind of it and had gathered to greet the GOP nominee at a gravel parking lot across the road—adjacent to the Swannanoa River, where the economic recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene have only just begun, as the presence of an abandoned car in a field indicated.

Yet, for the hurricane victims—who have endured three weeks of extreme hardship since the late-September deluge, which led to massive flooding, caught many residents off-guard—Trump’s visit was a silver lining in an otherwise bleak situation, evoking memories of his surprise Christmas and Thanksgiving Day appearances in war-torn conflict zones like Iraq while serving as commander-in-chief.

“Mr. President, I can’t thank you enough for coming out,” said Brian Burpeau, whose automotive business, Diamondback 4×4, played host to the event.

“I had in the back of my mind, I just—I even made a comment to somebody, ‘If Trump would just show up. Trump would just show up. We need him. We need that shot of hope in the arm. We need that—we need to know we’re going to be OK and not forgotten,” Burpeau said.

Those sentiments were echoed by Adam Smith, a retired Green Beret and de-facto leader of what has been dubbed the “Redneck Air Force”—a group of volunteer pilots who have flown rescue and relief missions throughout the flood zone.

Earlier this month, Smith made an appearance in Greensboro at a townhall event with vice-presidential candidate JD Vance, where he urged GOP officials to keep western North Carolinians at top of mind.

“The biggest fear that western North Carolina is sitting on right now, at least from the communities that we’ve talked to, is being forgotten,” Smith said at Monday’s event, while thanking Trump for hearing and answering his appeal.

“And to have you here and have an opportunity to have this conversation at a national level will keep western North Carolina on the map and not leave the communities holding the bag on the back end of this,” Smith continued. “So we’re very grateful that you’ve shown up, and we’re very grateful that you’ve taken the time.”

Smith added that local residents appreciated that Trump had also waited until a reasonable time to hold an event.

As the former president noted during the press conference, he had visited the affected area shortly after the hurricane but had opted not to turn it into a media circus that would require crucial resources to be reallocated.

Instead Trump “gave us space to operate and function and gave us space to provide relief where it needed to go,” Smith said.

Another local business owner, Mike Stewart of Pine View Buildings, received one of Trump’s famous hugs after sharing his poignant story, and then sought permission to pray for the former president.

Trump also noted, on the topic of relief, that he had raised nearly $8 million dollars with a GoFundMe campaign that he, himself, had authorized.

Some of the money was going to go to Samaritan’s Purse, the Christian charity run by Franklin Graham (which can also receive direct donations for those apprehensive about the previously woke GoFundMe). Trump asked the local residents and lawmakers present to offer their recommendations for other places to direct the money.

During a question-and-answer period with media, Trump slammed the inadequate response from the state’s Democrat Gov. Roy Cooper and the Biden administration—notably the Federal Emergency Management Agency, drawing contrast with how it was run during his own first term as president.

He later shot down a loaded question from the Associated Press that attempted to blame his public criticism of FEMA for an isolated threat against the agency—the provenance of which remains unclear and unconfirmed.

“Well, I think you have to let people know how they’re doing,” Trump said. “If they were doing a great job, I think we should say that, too, because I think they should be rewarded. … If they’re doing a poor job, we’re supposed to not say it?”

Swannanoa resident Linda Jeno, who had showed up ahead of the event with her grandson Mason to catch a glimpse of Trump, noted that where the federal government had been lacking, the community members had nonetheless rallied together in support of one another.

“I’ll tell you, community is lifting up community more than anything, right? And that’s been great. … It’ll make you cry if you think about it.”

She said one business, Blunt Pretzels, had been working with the local First Baptist Church to give away free food.

“You know, the local businesses have really been awesome—and they’re hit too,” Jeno said.”

“They’re out of business,” she continued. “They can’t work. But the people who work for them are coming in and working without a paycheck, just so that they can help provide for other people, and it’s been really great.”

She did credit FEMA with delivering care packages up the mountain to those who are still stranded, due to road closures, in areas like Chimney Rock. The severe flooding in some areas obliterated bridges and took large chunks out of pavement, making the roads unsafe to travel.

Meanwhile, other states, including Kentucky and Louisiana, have also sent their emergency responders to assist with the relief effort.

Mason, who wore what appeared to be a Sonic the Hedgehog hat accompanying his Trump/Vance sticker, said he had become the “11th crewmember” of the Kentucky team.

“The Kentucky guys, they kind of deemed him their mascot,” his grandma clarified.

Exhausted Kamala Leaves Stage After 6 Minutes

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) On Oct. 19, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris recently left the stage in Detroit after being there for just over six minutes because she was exhausted.

Since Harris supporters didn’t come to the event just for seven minutes, the event continued after Harris was replaced by a woke singer, Lizzo, who gave an ad idea to the Trump campaign by saying that “the whole country will be like Detroit” if Harris becomes the president of United States.

“They’re in total self-destruction mode,” @_johnnymaga wrote.

The recent news came after the Harris campaign ironically decided to gaslight Americans by saying that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is not mentally and physically capable of being the future president of the United States because he is always exhausted.

“BULLS**T. He stayed LONGER than planned and signed a baseball and other items for charitable hurricane relief for another 10 mins afterwards. You can shove this absolute bulls**t right up your a**. Lying pieces of sh**,” political commentator Dan Bongino said in defense of Trump.

Trump also denied the claims, as reported by Breitbart News.

“What event did I cancel? I haven’t canceled. She doesn’t go to any events. She’s a loser. She didn’t even show up for the Catholics last night. It was insulting. All they are is sound bites,” Trump said.

After witnessing Harris’s campaign lies and Harris’s recent performance in Detroit, conservatives on Twitter mocked Harris while also pointing out that Trump is performing so much better than Harris.

“Kamala — exhausted and spiraling as she caves under the pressure of losing — was on stage in Detroit for six minutes and 36 seconds. President Trump was on stage in Detroit for one hour and 27 minutes last night,” Trump War Room wrote.

Author Tim Murtaugh also wrote about Harris’s poor performance.

“Some event that was,” he wrote.

Trump’s senior adviser and founder of America First Legal, Steven Miller, also mocked Harris on social media.

“She’s Kollapsing,” he wrote.

Other people claimed that Harris broke “another Guinness record” by spending less than 10 minutes on stage.

However, Harris has already admitted that she is exhausted, saying she usually wakes up “in the middle of the night these days.”

“The pressure is getting to her,” Trump War Room wrote.

One day before that, Harris’s vice presidential pick, Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minn., also admitted it’s true.

“We’re fatigued,” he said.

Kamala Panders to Christians After Showing True Colors

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) After recently telling Christians at one of her recent rallies that they don’t belong there, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris tried to fix the situation by gaslighting the believers and pretending that she is a Christian as well.

“We each have the power to make a difference—in our communities and this election. Now is the time to come together to show faith in action and service,” Harris wrote on Twitter.

In the post, she also included a photo of her standing in a church with the caption “Souls to the Polls. Putting Faith Into Action.”

The recent news came after Harris once again demolished her chances of winning the upcoming election fairly after telling Christian students at her rally that they don’t belong there because they believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and oppose abortion.

“Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally. I think you meant to go to the smaller one down the street,” she said, with the leftist audience cheering and clapping while the students were escorted out of the building.

On the other hand, on Oct. 20, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick, Gov. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, showed the entire country and Christians, in particular, the difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Conservatives and Christians on Twitter mocked Harris and her attempts to save her failing political campaign.

“I think you’re at the wrong rally,” Auron MacIntyre of the Blaze Media wrote.

MacIntyre’s colleague, Allie Beth Stuckey, also made fun of Harris.

“Christian Nationalism is so scary,” she wrote.

Founder of Freedom Toons, Seamus Coughlin, also mocked Harris.

“I was told religion had no place in politics,” he wrote.

Some Catholics in the comments section, however, informed Harris that they have already made up their minds when it comes to who they plan to vote for on Nov. 5.

“Christians are voting for Trump,” @PrayTheRosary12 wrote.

Others pointed out that Harris is a “vile” woman because she would say and do anything to win this election.

“Just a few days ago, Kamala was holding a rally when someone in the crowd yelled, ‘Jesus is Lord!’ and another yelled, ‘Christ is King!’ to which she responded, ‘Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally!’ Today, she is visiting a black church, quoting scripture. This woman is vile,” @thereallorilove wrote.

McDonald’s Confirms Kamala Never Worked at Fast Food Chain

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) McDonald’s recently released a statement in which the company stated that Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris never worked at the fast food chain, even though she previously claimed that she did to create a “rags to riches” image of herself.

“This is an internal statement to the McDonald’s system from the US Senior Leadership Team regarding today’s visit by the Trump campaign to a local franchisee in Pennsylvania. The statement outlines the origins of the event, the company’s response and an invitation extended to the Harris/Walz campaign for a future event,” @McFranchisee wrote.

The account also attached a screenshot of the statement, which revealed that Harris never worked for McDonald’s.

“Though we are not a political brand, we’ve been proud to hear former President Trump’s love for McDonald’s and Vice President Harris’s fond memories working under the Arches. While we and our franchises don’t have records for all positions dating back to the 80s, what makes ‘1 in 8’ so powerful is the shared experience so many Americans have had,” the franchise stated.

Some conservatives on Twitter even suggested, more jokingly than seriously, that people who work at McDonald’s and write public statements secretly support Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

“McDonald’s is low-key supporting Trump and throwing shade at Kamala,” conservative commentator Ian Miles Cheong wrote.

As expected, as soon as the public statement was released, the mass media tried to fact-check the claim that Harris never worked at McDonald’s.

One of those propaganda outlets, the New York Times, suggested that Harris worked at McDonald’s when she was younger because her campaign and a “friend” claimed it happened.

“It exploits the fact that her life story is not as well known or as well documented at this late stage of the campaign as those of most presidential nominees have been,” the Times wrote.

Conservatives on Twitter once again mocked the mainstream media for constantly lying and defending Harris.

“For real: the greatest fact check of all time,” film critic Kyle Smith wrote. “‘We have heard from her side and declare the matter settled…’ ‘Trump claims she has no evidence, BUT she and her friend literally TOLD US.'”

Media Research Center’s Newsbusters also reported that other mainstream outlets, such as CBS News and NBC News, accused Trump of claiming that Harris never worked at McDonald’s without evidence.

The recent news came after Trump decided to mock Harris and become a temporary McDonald’s worker, which made leftists very angry.

On Monday, the Trump campaign also released a statement pointing out why Trump is a better presidential candidate than Harris.

Trump Reveals Why He ‘Dropped’ MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough

(Julianna Frieman, Headline USA) Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump made clear on Sunday why he stopped being friendly with MSNBC host Joe Scarborough in an interview on “MediaBuzz.”

Fox News host Howard Kurtz asked Trump to respond to Scarborough’s comments on Friday’s episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” during which he said the GOP nominee would arrest his political opponents as president.

“His people have said they’re going to arrest my producers,” Scarborough claimed before suggesting Trump would shut down CBS News over the outlet’s editing that made Vice President Kamala Harris’s answer appear more succinct.

Trump, who was indicted in four criminal cases following the launch of his 2024 campaign, told Kurtz his team did not say his potential second administration would weaponize the law against his political foes.

“Oh, nobody said that. Look, Joe’s a sick puppy. I know him well,” Trump said. “I dropped him because I thought he was very unethical, actually.”

Trump explained that he would frequently call into “Morning Joe” during his 2016 campaign. Kurtz questioned how he determined that Scarborough is “unethical,” to which Trump replied that he has seen how the MSNBC host speaks about him on his show.

“I watch him and what he says about me. What he says is so bad,” Trump added.

For more than seven years, Scarborough and his co-hosts have frequently characterized Trump as a danger and a threat to democracy. However, the “Morning Joe” host’s former friendship with Trump in early 2016 was previously a “source of discomfort” at NBC, according to CNN Business.

Axios reported in February that President Joe Biden is a huge fan of “Morning Joe” who frequently communicates with Scarborough for his take on issues and to “sometimes vent about media coverage.”

Harris also watches “Morning Joe,” according to Axios. The vice president and her husband, Doug Emhoff, reportedly hosted Scarborough and his wife and MSNBC co-host, Mika Brzezinski, for dinner at her residence in January.

Report: 2nd Trump Assassin Committed Election Fraud This Year

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Ryan Routh, the man who allegedly tried assassinating Donald Trump at his Florida golf course last month, committed election fraud in North Carolina earlier this year, according to a report from the Carolina Journal.

Tracking Routh’s history of moving back and forth from Hawaii, the Journal found that he didn’t re-register to vote when he most recently returned to North Carolina.

“When Routh moved to Hawaii, and certainly when he registered to vote there, he invalidated his North Carolina voter registration. When he voted in the North Carolina Democratic primary on March 5 with that invalid registration, he committed election fraud,” the Carolina Journal reported on Friday.

“If Routh’s North Carolina registration was no longer valid, why was he allowed to vote?” the Journal asked.

The director of the board of elections for Guilford County, North Carolina, told the Journal that his office has no records of Routh having lived in Hawaii. “In short, North Carolina election officials had no idea Routh was not legally registered to vote there,” the Journal concluded.

Meanwhile, Routh faces much more serious charges than election fraud. He’s currently awaiting trial for allegedly trying to kill Trump, along with the lesser charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number

Routh has pleaded not guilty.

He also initially sought the recusal of the presiding judge, Aileen Cannon, a Trump-appointed federal judge who in July dismissed a criminal case charging Trump with illegally hoarding classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. However, on Thursday, Routh apparently changed his mind and struck his motion for recusal.

On Friday, Cannon scheduled Routh’s trial to begin on Feb. 10. A status conference is also set for Dec. 10.

Routh’s son, Oran Routh, also currently faces child pornography charges.

‘Star Witness’ Lied During J6 Committee Hearing, House GOP Finds

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) The House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight released a report on Monday that suggests that the Democrat-controlled January 6th Commission’s “star witness,” Cassidy Hutchinson, lied during a public hearing.

The House Administration Subcommittee’s Monday report was related to Hutchinson’s June 28, 2022, testimony, when she said that she personally wrote a proposed Tweet on Jan. 6, 2021, for President Donald Trump to send advising rioters to leave the Capitol. The text of that proposed Tweet said, “ANYONE WHO ENTERED THE CAPITOL ILLEGALLY WITHOUT PROPER AUTHORITY SHOULD LEAVE IMMEDIATELY”—with the word ILLEGALLY scratched out.

At the time, Hutchinson testified that she wrote the note as dictated by then-Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows and Eric Herschmann, one of the President’s attorneys. However, Herschmann alleged that Hutchinson was lying, and that he was the one who wrote the note.

The House Administration Subcommittee said Monday that it hired a handwriting analyst to review the note and determine who wrote it.

“After a thorough analysis, their certified handwriting analyst stated in the report that ‘the evidence supports my opinion that the handwriting that appears on the Questioned Document was written in the same hand as the exemplars [Herschmann],’” the House Administration Subcommittee said Monday.

“This new evidence provided by an independent, Certified Questioned Document Examiner, not only contradicts Ms. Hutchinson’s numerous claims that she penned the note, but also exposes the Select Committee’s willingness to accept all her testimonies without corroboration or further investigation,” Subcommittee on Oversight Chair Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., said in a Monday press release.

The subcommittee’s findings follow revelations last week that then-January 6th Commission Vice Chair Liz Cheney secretly communicated with Hutchinson, and may have pressured her to fire her attorney.

“Not only is communicating with a witness without their attorney present unethical, it undermines the integrity of an investigation,” Loudermilk reportedly said last week.

“As a licensed attorney, Liz Cheney would have known the ethical and legal issues with this communication,” he said.

“Clearly, Cheney did not want Stefan Passantino representing Hutchinson; as shortly after Cheney and Hutchinson began communicating, Cheney convinced Hutchinson to fire Passantino, and arranged for a new attorney to represent Hutchinson pro-bono.”

Hutchinson would also change her testimony, as has been widely documented.

Specifically, Hutchinson testified on June 28, 2022, that Trump tried to control the steering wheel while being driven to the White House following his Jan. 6 speech. Additionally, she claimed that the former president lunged at another agent.

However, in her previous three transcribed interviews on February 23, 2022, March 7, 2022, and May 17, 2022, she did not mention that interaction, according to a later investiatino from Loudermilk’s committee.

Donald Trump Counters Kamala’s Lies By Making McDonald’s Fries

(Julianna Frieman, Headline USA) Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump countered Kamala Harris’s false claims about working at McDonald’s on Sunday by making fries at the iconic fast-food joint in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Trump clocked in for his first shift at the McDonald’s around 2 p.m. in Feasterville-Trevose, where he served up meals of McNuggets and and fries to happy customers from the restaurant’s drive-thru, Phillyburb reported.

“I’ve now worked for 15 minutes more than Kamala,” Trump said as he was peppered with questions while poking his head outside the drive-thru window.

Democrat nominee Kamala Harris repeated her claim that she had summer job at McDonald’s in her 20s during an Oct. 1 interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle. Trump frequently called out Harris for lying about working at McDonald’s weeks before he donned the iconic apron over his signature red necktie and white dress shirt.

Video shows the 45th president scoop some warm, golden fries into a red McDonald’s holder. Trump took instructions and chatted with “expert” employees as he bagged orders and delivered them to a line of cars.

After waving to satisfied customers as they drove away, Trump told McDonald’s co-workers he would love to work more hours. He handed out fries to the “fake news” and expressed his enjoyment to supporters in the drive-thru line.

“I’m having a lot of fun here, everyone!” Trump said.

Trump confirmed his campaign stop and temporary gig at the fast-food joint Friday on “Fox and Friends.”

“I’m going to do everything. I’ll tell you what. A friend of mine owns McDonald’s some place. Oh, I’m going. Because she lied,” Trump told the Fox News co-hosts beside him on the curvy couch.

Trump said Harris went as far as to choose a McDonald’s location. He added that the long-standing manager of the restaurant denied the vice president’s claims of former employment.

Trump did not clock out without wishing his Democrat opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, a happy 60th birthday from the McDonald’s window.

MSNBC host Alex Witt and Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., were no fans of Trump’s afternoon shift at McDonald’s. Lee told the host there was “no logic” to what she called “a stunt” by the former president.

“MSNBC says working at McDonald’s is bizarre and strange. This is how Kamala Harris and elites think of everyday Americans who work everyday jobs,” Trump advisor Steven Cheung wrote on X.

The Washington Post released similar reporting on the Trump campaign’s fast-food stop, running a headline saying it was “stage-managed.” Newsweek went as far as to report that the McDonald’s Trump visited “failed its last health inspection,” citing documents it did not publish.

Sirius XM’s Megyn Kelly and Trump Senior Advisor Steven Miller and slammed leftist media outlets, particularly Mediaite, for demonizing any moment of levity by Trump.

“He must be demonized no matter how charming or funny or self-deprecating he ever manages to be. They’re sick,” Kelly said.

An email blast from the Trump campaign featured the former president’s foray into fast-food.

“Take notes, Kamala and Tampon Tim — THIS is what a leader, a true man of the people, looks like,” the Trump campaign said.

Biden Administration Runs Third-Largest Annual Budget Deficit in History as Interest Payments on Debt Top $1 Trillion

(Mike Maharrey, Money Metals News Service) In one of the biggest economic stories of the year that nobody seems to care about, the Biden administration ran the third-largest budget deficit in history in fiscal 2024 and paid over $1 trillion just on interest payments on the debt.

This is the kind of borrowing and spending one would expect during an economic crisis. The only bigger annual budget deficits both occurred during the COVID lockdown era. Before that, the Obama administration ran the only trillion dollar-plus deficits during the Great Recession. (The Trump administration was on pace for a trillion-dollar-plus deficit in fiscal 2020 before the pandemic.)

And yet here we are, in what is supposed to be a “robust” economy, with a crisis-like budget deficit.

Perhaps the “robust” economy is an illusion created by the government deficit spending.

The Numbers

According to the final Monthly Treasury Statement of fiscal 2024, the federal government spent $1.83 trillion more than it took in.

The budget deficit was 8 percent higher than the 2023 shortfall.

The budget gap represents 6.4 percent of GDP, up from 6.2 percent in fiscal 2023.

Democrats love to blame the deficit on “tax cuts for the rich,” but the rhetoric doesn’t match reality.

Federal tax receipts came in at a record of $4.92 trillion, an 11 percent increase over fiscal 2023.

The real problem is on the spending side of the ledger.

Remember how the Biden administration promised that the [pretend] spending cuts would save “hundreds of billions” with the debt ceiling deal (aka the [misnamed] Fiscal Responsibility Act)?

That never happened.

The Biden administration blew through $6.75 trillion in fiscal 2024, a 10 percent increase over 2023 spending.

Here are just a few examples of spending increases:

  • Social Security spending was up 7 percent
  • Medicare spending was up 4 percent
  • Military program outlays increased by 6 percent

This tells you everything you need to know about government promises of spending cuts. Government people always find new reasons to spend money even as they pontificate about fiscal responsibility. Whether it’s a domestic crisis or a war, government spends more and more. This is why the deficits continue to expand – not because of some imagined lack of sufficient revenue.

And it’s not just Democrats spending like drunken sailors (with apologies to all the drunken sailors out there).

Prior to the pandemic, the U.S. government ran budget deficits of over $1 trillion just four times — all by the Obama administration in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis.

But the Trump administration almost hit the $1 trillion mark in 2019 and was on pace to run a trillion-dollar deficit in fiscal 2020 before the pandemic, even as the U.S. supposedly enjoyed the “best economy” ever. The economic catastrophe caused by the government’s response to COVID-19 gave policymakers an excuse to spend with no questions asked, and we saw record deficits in fiscal 2020 and 2021.

This reveals the ugly truth: borrowing and spending is a bipartisan sport.

The Interest Problem

Uncle Sam paid $1.13 trillion in interest expense in fiscal 2023. It was the first time interest expense has ever eclipsed $1 trillion.

Interest payments were up 28.6 percent over fiscal 2023 levels.

Graph courtesy of Reuters

The U.S. government paid more in interest than it did for national defense ($882 billion) or Medicare ($874 billion). The only spending category larger than interest on the debt was Social Security ($1.46 trillion.)

Net interest expense factoring interest earned by the Treasury was $882 billion, sill more than national defense.

And interest expenses will only continue to climb.

Much of the debt currently on the books was financed at very low rates before the Federal Reserve started its hiking cycle. Every month, some of that super-low-yielding paper matures and has to be replaced by bonds yielding much higher rates.

Even with the recent Federal Reserve rate cut, interest rates remain elevated.

The National Debt Matters

Anybody who says “deficits don’t matter” is deluded.

As the Bipartisan Policy Center points out, the growing national debt and the mounting fiscal irresponsibility undermine the dollar.

“Confidence in U.S. creditworthiness may be undermined by a rapidly deteriorating fiscal situation, an increasing concern with federal debt set to grow substantially in the coming years.”

This could lead to lower economic growth, higher unemployment, and less investment wealth.

Lack of confidence in the U.S. fiscal situation could also lower demand for U.S. debt. This would force interest rates on U.S. Treasuries even higher to attract investors, exacerbating the interest payment problem.

The national debt continues to spiral upward at a dizzying pace. It currently stands at over $35.7 trillion. According to the national debt clock, that represents 122.28 percent of GDP. Studies have shown a debt-to-GDP ratio of over 90 percent retards economic growth by about 30 percent.

And yet, virtually nobody in Washington D.C. has a plan to address the budget shortfalls or the growing national debt. Sure, federal officials will pay lip service to trim spending, but substantive spending cuts never materialize. Meanwhile, Democrats promise to raise taxes on the rich, a policy that plays well to its base but wouldn’t make a substantive debt in the budget shortfall.

Ultimately, the borrowing and spending issue is nothing more than a political hot potato that makes headlines every time Congress runs up against the debt ceiling.

The Bipartisan Policy Center warns, “Regular brinkmanship over addressing the federal debt limit—a symptom of broader fiscal dysfunction and mismanagement—could have a catastrophic impact on the U.S. credit rating, the dollar’s role, and U.S. global leadership.”

It’s almost certain that neither Congress nor the next occupant of the Oval Office will do anything substantive to address this fiscal train wreck. Instead, they will continue to kick the can down the road.

It’s a great political strategy because nobody wants spending cuts or tax hikes. The problem is, eventually, they will run out of road.

Trump Shooting Task Force IDs New Culprit for Unsecured AGR Building: State Police

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) In the wake of the July 13 assassination attempt against Donald Trump, the Secret Service and local law enforcement have traded blame about whose responsibility it was to secure the building used by Thomas Crooks for his shooting.

Initially, then-Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle said local law enforcement had responsibility for the AGR building, but Butler County officials immediately rebuked her. Secret Service Acting Director Ronald Rowe ultimately accepted responsibility for the unsecured rooftop, though he still blasted local snipers from not covering that area from their posts inside the second floor of the building.

Now, a report from the House Task Force investigating the Trump assassination attempts implicates yet another agency for the unsecured building: the Pennsylvania State Police, or PSP.

The House Task Force’s report, which was released Monday, states that the PSP told the committee that it thought the Secret Service was responsible for the AGR building.

“According to the Secret Service, however, [PSP Lt. John] Herold advised the USSS on July 9 that PSP had already spoken to the owner of the AGR property and ‘coordinated it to be closed, locked, and posted,’” the House Task Force report said, citing internal Secret Service records that were provided to the committee.

The Secret Service’s implication of PSP should perhaps be taken with a grain of salt, given the inaccurate information that has already come from that agency. However, the House Task Force report further revealed that the Butler County Sheriff’s Office also apparently thought the PSP was responsible for the AGR building.

“For instance, before the rally started, Butler County Sheriff’s Office (CSO) Witness 1 expressed concern to Butler CSO Witness 3 about the fact that the AGR complex was outside the USSS secure perimeter, with no law enforcement on or near the building, to which Butler CSO Witness 3 responded that ‘PSP has that covered,’” the Task Force report stated.

The PSP didn’t immediately respond to a Headline USA email inquiry about the new Task Force report, which comes four days after the DHS released its own “independent” review of the shooting.

The DHS’s 52-page report issued last Thursday took the Secret Service to task for specific problems leading up to the July 13 rally in Butler as a well as deeper one within the agency’s culture. It recommended bringing in new, outside leadership and refocusing on its protective mission.

“Although experience within the Service is laudable and important, and some members of a future leadership team will likely be Secret Service veterans, the events of Butler suggest that there is an urgent need for fresh thinking informed by external experience and perspective,” the panel wrote.

The panel’s recommendations suggest that Secret Service Acting Director Ronald Rowe and other senior officials could be ousted from the agency soon. So far, no agents have been fired over the events of Butler.
