Lawmakers Blast Lack of Transparency at HHS Over Handling of COVID

(Casey Harper, The Center Square) – A group of lawmakers is calling out U.S. Health and Human Services, arguing the federal agency is bucking Congressional oversight, especially when it comes to the federal response to the COVID-19 panic.

The Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic Chair Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, said Friday he would hold a hearing Wednesday on that very topic.

“HHS has spent the last year intentionally avoiding lawful Congressional oversight,” Wenstrup said in a statement.

Wenstrup’s committee has been investigating whether taxpayer dollars played a role in the spread or even creation of COVID-19. As The Center Square previously reported, EcoHealth Alliance is a group that received federal funding to research coronaviruses and bats via the lab in Wuhan, China, that later became the center of international scrutiny for its alleged role in the pandemic.

The contract with that lab has been severed, but lawmakers have been trying for years to get to the bottom of how the pandemic started and whether this funding played a part.

Congress has also been demanding answers for how COVID vaccine and other guidance was created and updated.

Wenstrup said that HHS has been slow to answer, provided redacted information, and ignored or “provided suspect excuses” when asked to provide documents and communications, a standard procedure for Congressional oversight committees.

Wenstrup, who has been backed by other leading Republican Committee chairs, also asked for communications between federal employees and EcoHealth Alliance as well as a range of other related requests.

“When we asked for important testimony, HHS seemed to purposefully mislead Select Subcommittee investigators,” Wenstrup said. “This pattern of avoiding accountability to the American people cannot, and should not, be tolerated any longer.”

The committee is asking for communications for top COVID officials within the government, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, who led the federal COVID response for the White House.

“The Department must be held responsible for its parade of delays, excuses, and obfuscation,” he added. “If HHS continues to obscure the Select Subcommittee’s investigation, we will be forced to evaluate the use of the compulsory process.”

The hearing is expected to feature testimony from HHS Assistant Secretary for Legislation Melanie Egorin.

HHS did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication.

MURDOCK: At Three-Year Mark, Trump Tops Biden in Most Every Metric

(Deroy Murdock, Headline USA) Are you better off than you were four years ago? Every voter should ask this while choosing America’s next president.

This oft-stated question is fairer to pose three years into Joe Biden’s presidency.  Evaluating America now versus January 2020, on President Donald J. Trump’s watch, allows a much cleaner contrast than in November 2024.

On Election Day, Americans will weigh conditions with those in November 2020—a pitch-black time when COVID-19 rampaged, and the embers of the George Floyd riots still smoldered.

Judging Trump’s performance amid a once-in-a-century viral outbreak and the worst political violence since Vietnam smacks into what social scientists call “confounding variables.”

To give the comedy Our American Cousin justice, read reviews written before April 13, 1865. Any subsequent critique would be fatally warped by the next evening’s events, when the President and Mrs. Lincoln ventured to Ford’s Theatre for a play.

Similarly, snapshots taken on Jan. 20, 2020, and Jan. 20, 2024 (exactly three years after each president’s inaugural, but before 2020’s pandemic and turmoil) find Trump trumping Biden seven ways from Sunday.

  • Ironically for a swaybacked, socialist warhorse, Biden can brag most loudly about the financial markets. After his first 36 months, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 29% above its Jan. 20, 2020 close. The S&P 500 climbed 45.4%, and the NASDAQ soared 63.1%. Not bad for a class warrior.

But what about the market-growth rates within each president’s first three years? While the Dow advanced 48.0% during Trump’s first three years, it increased just 21.4% in Biden’s analogous period. Assets grew under Biden, but 55.4% more slowly than under Trump.

The S&P was 44.8% more sluggish under Biden, and the NASDAQ crawled forward 80% less swiftly than under Trump. If you enjoy riding interstate highways at 14 mph, Biden is your man.

  • Americans feel poor because their incomes seem trapped in rush-hour traffic. Average hourly earnings ticked up 1.3% since Jan. 2020, but inflation-adjusted median annual household income slid 2.7%.
  • The 3.5% unemployment rate observed on Jan. 20, 2020 stood at 3.7%; four years later—a 5.7% increase in that measure. On that basis, black unemployment has improved by 11.9%, but it has deteriorated by 19.0% for Hispanics and 24.0% for Americans of Asian descent.
  • In his first three years, Trump added $3.26 trillion to the national debt. (COVID then turbocharged such outlays.) Meanwhile, Biden has boosted the debt $6.32 trillion—a 93.6% faster flow of fiscal incontinence.

This spend-o-rama ignited inflation. Twelve-month consumer-price growth has gone from 2.3% to 3.4%—47.8% higher than in Jan. 2020.

To battle Bidenflation, the Federal Reserve has spiked the 30-year mortgage. It was 3.65% and now is 6.60%. With borrowing costs up 80.8%, millions of buyers consider housing unaffordable. The 35.4% increase in median home prices (from $318,400 to $431,000) makes matters worse.

  • Minds are shrinking under Biden. Fourth grade math proficiency: Down 2.1% since 2020. Fourth grade reading: Down 1.4%. Eight-grade scores slipped 2.8% and 1.1%, respectively.
  • While violent crime eased 1.4% in Biden’s first two years, the latest data show that homicides per 100,000 residents grew from 5.15 to 6.55—up 27.2%.
  • Biden has perpetrated pure evil on the U.S.–Mexico “border,” which he intentionally demolished. During Trump’s first three years, Border Patrol agents apprehended 2,321,169 illegal aliens. Under Biden: 6,776,253— up 191.9%. Border Patrol nabbed 11 on the terror watch list under Trump. In Biden’s first three years: 312—up 2,736.4%.

James Madison once said: “Facts are stubborn things.” Based on these stubborn facts, and many others, I hope 150 million voters will repeat after me:

I hereby endorse the once and future president of the United States, Donald J. Trump!

95% of Claims for a Federal COVID Program were Fraudulent

(Headline USA) When IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel met privately with senators recently, the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee asked for his assessment of a startling report: A whistleblower estimated that 95% of claims now being made by businesses for a COVID-era tax break were fraudulent.

“He looked at his shoes and he basically said, ‘Yeah,’” recalled the lawmaker who posed that question, Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore.

The answer explains why Congress is racing to wind down what is known as the employee retention tax credit. Congress established the program during the coronavirus overreaction as an incentive for businesses to keep workers on the payroll.

Demand for the credit soared as Congress extended the tax break and made it available to more companies. Aggressive marketers dangled the prospect of enormous refunds to business owners if they would just apply. As a result, what was expected to cost the federal government $55 billion has instead ballooned to nearly five times that amount as of July. Meanwhile, new claims are still pouring into the IRS each week, ensuring a growing price tag that lawmakers are anxious to cap.

Lawmakers across the political spectrum who rarely agree on little else — from radical leftist Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., to conservative Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis. — agree it’s time to close down the program.

“I don’t have the exact number, but it’s like almost universal fraud in the program. It should be ended,” Johnson said. “I don’t see how anybody could support it.”

The Joint Committee on Taxation estimates that winding down the program more quickly and increasing penalties for those companies promoting improper claims would generate about $79 billion over 10 years. Lawmakers aim to use the savings to offset the cost of three business tax breaks and a more generous child tax credit for many low-income families. Households benefitting from the changes in the child tax credit would see an average tax cut of $680 in the first year, according to an estimate from the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

The package was overwhelmingly approved by a House committee last week, 40-3, showing it has broad, bipartisan support.

Under current law, taxpayers have until April 15, 2025, to claim the employee retention credit. The bill would bar new claims after Jan. 31 of this year. It also would impose stiff penalties on those who are promoting the employer retention tax credit if they know or have reason to know their advice will lead to an underreporting of tax liabilities.

When Congress created the tax break for employers at the panic’s onset, it proved so popular that lawmakers extended and amended the program three times. The credit, worth up to $26,000 per employee, can be claimed on wages paid through 2021.

To qualify, generally businesses must show that a local or state government order related to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in their business having to close or partially suspend operations. Or the businesses must show they experienced a significant decline in revenues.

Larry Gray, a certified public accountant from Rolla, Missouri, said he had concerns early on about how the program could be abused.

“There was no documentation really to speak” and the IRS just sent out the checks, Gray said. ”They just started printing the checks and I believe Congress was wanting them to print the checks.”

Auto-Dealers Urge Biden to Halt EPA’s Draconian Emissions Standards

(Headline USA)  More than 4,700 automobile dealerships across the United States urged President Joe Biden in a letter Thursday to halt the Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to enforce stricter vehicle-pollution standards.

The missive comes just weeks before the agency’s expected ruling on its tailpipe-emissions proposal, which addresses both climate change and pollutants that are harmful to health.

The EPA’s upcoming ruling, proposed last April, could codify the agency’s strictest-ever tailpipe emissions limits.

The draconian emissions standards are one in an array of regulations and incentives intended to jolt the automobile industry away from gas-powered vehicles and shift to more electric vehicles.

Most automakers around the globe have pledged hundreds of billions of dollars to transition to all-electric new vehicle sales in the coming decade. Last year, U.S. EV sales overall grew 47% to a record 1.2 million, according to Motorintelligence.com. EVs are seeing year-over-year growth, but only hit 7.6% of overall market share in 2023.

However, consumer demand for EVs has failed to follow suit due to the lingering issues surrounding the battery-powered cars—including the dearth of charging stations, and the amount of time and energy required to recharge. Many have reported that the cars fail to run altogether in severe weather, such as recent winter storms across the central U.S.

Nearly 4,000 dealerships of the nearly 17,000 franchised shops nationwide asked Biden to “tap the brakes” on the EPA proposal in a November letter, referring to the rules as an “electric vehicle mandate.” House Republicans approved a bill in December to block the pollution limits and also called the rules a mandate.

The signers of this week’s letter said the supply of EVs on dealer lots is twice that of internal combustion engine vehicles, and that they won’t be able to sell EVs at the rate the regulations would require.

“It is uncontestable that the combination of fewer tax incentives, a woefully inadequate charging infrastructure, and insufficient consumer demand makes the proposed electric vehicle mandate completely unrealistic,” the letter said.

The dealerships said Thursday that the Biden administration did not respond to their first letter, sent on Nov. 28.

An EPA spokesperson said the agency cannot comment as the proposal is currently in the interagency review process.

“President Biden is investing in a future that is made in America by American workers as we position the United States to lead the clean energy future,” a White House spokesperson said in a statement Thursday.

“More Americans are buying EVs every day—with EV sales rising faster than traditional gas-powered cars—as the President’s Inflation Reduction Act makes EVs more affordable and helps Americans save money when driving,” the spokesperson claimed, while ignoring the fact that the market is now oversaturated with unwanted EVs.

The administration has an ambitious goal to reduce the carbon-dioxide emissions that come from passenger cars and trucks, which constitute 17% of all man-made U.S. emissions, according to the EPA. The regulation also limits hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter into the air.

The EPA says its proposed regulations could mean that up to two out of every three vehicles sold in the U.S. are electric by 2032. That’s higher than the administration’s target of 50% set two years ago.

The EPA’s tailpipe-pollution limits wouldn’t require automakers to sell a specific number of EVs every year.

Automakers can meet EPA regulations not just through pure-electric vehicle sales, but also through a sales mix including hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, plus cleaner internal-combustion engine vehicles.

The EPA has also said that the auto industry could employ widespread use of particulate filters, which mitigate the soot emitted from conventional gasoline-fueled engines.

“In order to stay on track to meeting overall climate policy goals that have been adopted by the country, I think it’s important to be aggressive in this sector where you have the technology, progress is being made, there’s momentum in markets,” said Jessika Trancik, a professor in energy studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Trancik claimed that the government demands on the industry promised to be a “really important part” in reaching not only its goals for reducing greenhouse gases by 2030—part of the Obama-era Paris Climate Accord—but of continuing to strive even further toward a net-zero emissions goal with another benchmark in 2050.

“There are a number of different ways you can improve efficiencies and reduce emissions,” Trancik said. But, “If you want to meet those targets, fully electric vehicles are probably going to be a really important tool, at least in part, to allow for that because they do offer the greatest emissions cuts.”

The EPA is also proposing regulations for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and the government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has separately proposed a fuel-economy increase.

Taylor Swift Fans Are Furious Over AI Porn of Their Idol

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) Taylor Swift fans became furious after X-rated, AI-generated images of her became viral online.

All of the pornographic images feature Kansas City Chiefs themes, the NFL team for whom Swift’s current boyfriend, Travis Kelce, currently plays, according to the Daily Wire.

This wasn’t the first time when Swift became the target of people using her face without permission, but the images caused a stir among fans due to the graphic, explicitly pornographic nature of the imagery.

These AI images were initially posted on the AI celebrity porn website called Celeb Jihad on Jan. 15, 2024. After that, people started sharing the images on Twitter so often this week that “Taylor Swift AI” began trending on the social media platform.

Swift’s fans expressed their anger because of what happened and encouraged each other to keep reporting the pornographic posts, which were coming from several different accounts.

Even though some of the images were removed, others were still accessible on Jan. 25, 2024, which prompted the fans to demand stricter laws and harsher punishments for using Swift’s image without her permission.

“How is this not considered sexual assault? We are talking about the body/face of a woman being used for something she probably would never allow/feel comfortable how are there no regulations or laws preventing this,” one person said.

Other people shamed the people who were spreading porn all around Twitter.

“[Whoever] is making those Taylor Swift AI pictures, you are a disgusting person,” another person wrote.

Some people warned others that Swift’s porn images are just the beginning.

“I’m not going to share that Taylor Swift AI sickening ‘sexy’ post. But know that all it takes is one button click for any of us or our friends, family or children to be used in that way without our consent. Fight AI now before it’s too late,” one person said.

This prediction resulted in people saying that the government must do something to prevent the problem.

Calif. Gives No Jail Time to Woman Who Murdered Her Boyfriend

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) On Jan. 23, 2024, a judge in California decided to not put a woman who murdered her boyfriend by stabbing him 108 times behind bars, instead sentencing her to only 100 hours of community service and probation.

In May 2018, Bryn Spejcher murdered Chad O’Melia with a kitchen knife, as well as her dog, according to the Daily Wire. When police apprehended Spejcher, she was screaming and stabbing herself.

The now 32-year-old audiologist entered a “cannabis-induced psychosis” after smoking marijuana, Spejcher’s lawyer claimed. He then added that she did not have a history of using the drug and that the only reason why she did that was because she was pressured by the 26-year-old accountant to smoke out of his bong.

Initially, Ventura County prosecutors charged Spejcher with second-degree murder but downgraded the charge to involuntary manslaughter after medical experts said that her psychotic break was triggered by the drug.

However, it was still possible for her to face four years in prison, which she didn’t get in the end. As expected, the decision by Judge David Worley to not send her to prison shocked both prosecutors and the victim’s family.

“The sentence is a terrible miscarriage of justice. I can only hope it is not repeated by other judges. Because involuntary manslaughter and the use of a deadly weapon in California permits judicial discretion… the court was able to set her free with no jail. It is an unheard of sentence in my jurisdiction,” Ventura County Senior Deputy District Attorney Audry Nafziger, who tried the case, said.

She then added that her being under the influence of the drug cannot be a get-out-of-jail-free card.

“We do not let people off the hook for drinking and hurting people. People are convicted of being intoxicated and harming others and they, rightly, go to jail,” Nafziger said.

Sean O’Melia, the father of the victim, also responded to the unjust decision by saying that the ruling could enable violent criminals to break the law and then blame weed for what they’ve done.

“I think [Judge Worley] set an absolutely terrible precedent in the state of California where it’s okay to kill somebody after you smoke marijuana,” he said.

Liz Cheney Urges Nikki Haley to Stay in Race to ‘Defeat’ Trump

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) Former RINO Congresswoman Liz Cheney, R–Wyo., exposed her Trump Derangement Syndrome once again when she encouraged former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley to stay in the presidential primary as long as possible to “defeat” Donald Trump.

“I hope she stays in the race as long as she has to,” Cheney said on the left-wing podcast “Pod Save America” on Jan. 26, 2024, urging Haley to compete “through Super Tuesday.”

On Jan. 23, 2024, Trump won the New Hampshire primary with an 11-point lead after his other win in Iowa last week, according to the Federalist.

As always, Cheney trashed Trump as an “existential threat” who can’t carry the general election.

“So we need to make sure we’re challenging him and working to defeat him at every step of the way. And right now, Nikki Haley is in this fight and I think she ought to stay in it,” she said.

Cheney was then asked if she now officially endorsed Haley over Trump, considering that there are only two of them left, and she affirmed to the viewers that she would never support Trump.

“I haven’t made any formal endorsements at this point, but certainly I would never support or vote for Donald Trump again,” she said.

The primary reason why Cheney went on the podcast was to promote her latest book, “Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning,” which came out in December of last year. not surprisingly, in the book, Cheney presented herself as a brave defender of “democracy” against Trump and his supporters.

“[Trump was] the most dangerous man ever to inhabit the Oval Office,” she wrote in the book.

In addition to that, Cheney, who is now a professor at the University of Virginia, didn’t rule out an independent presidential run herself.

“We’ll see what happens. My number one priority is defeating [Trump] and I think that’s going to guide whatever ultimately I decide I’m going to do,” she said.

Jill Biden Will Invite Woman Who Left Texas to Murder Unborn Child to State of Union

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) Kate Cox, a woman from Dallas who sued her state so that she would be able to murder her unborn child and then left Texas to do exactly that, was invited to attend the State of the Union as Jill Biden’s guest.

The Jan. 24, 2024, invitation from the White House comes as Biden’s campaign focuses heavily on allowing women to murder their unborn babies so that they would re-elect him at the end of 2024, according to The Hill.

Cox was also featured by the Biden campaign in a video that was released this week that tied Donald Trump to the end of Roe v. Wade. According to the campaign officials, Cox’s case is a perfect example of their main argument against Trump, which is that if Trump is re-elected, women won’t be able to murder their unborn babies when they want to.

“On Sunday, the president and the first lady spoke to Kate Cox, who was forced to go to court to seek permission for the care she needed for a nonviable pregnancy that threatened her life. They thanked her for her courage in sharing her story. And speaking out about the impact of the extreme abortion ban in Texas,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.

Cox was more than 20 weeks pregnant with a baby that had been diagnosed with trisomy 18, a chromosomal anomaly that leads to miscarriage, stillbirth or the death of the infant within hours, days or weeks after birth. Despite that, there is still a chance that a baby will be able to survive and live a long and happy life.

However, as expected, the abortionists never bothered to tell her that. Instead, they concentrated on telling her that she should sacrifice her baby because she probably wouldn’t be able to have kids after that. Both Cox and her husband agreed to murder the baby, but the “doctors” didn’t do anything because they were afraid of prosecution or losing their medical licenses under the state’s near-total ban on abortion.

As a result, Cox sued the state so that she would be able to murder her baby, which is believed to be the first attempt by an individual woman to challenge a state’s abortion ban.

Eventually, the state Supreme Court prohibited the abortion, so she murdered her baby in another state.

Email Reveals Reason Why CDC Didn’t Issue Alert on COVID-19, Myocarditis

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) An email that was obtained by the Epoch Times revealed that the reason why the nation’s top public health agency didn’t send an alert about a connection between COVID-19 vaccines and heart inflammation was because officials were concerned that this information would cause panic among the people.

In 2021, the CDC drafted an alert about the risk of heart inflammation, or myocarditis, that results from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines. Initially, the officials wanted to send the alert through the CDC’s Health Alert Network (HAN), which goes to state and local officials, as well as doctors, across the country. However, the alert was never sent.

A CDC official revealed in the May 25, 2021, email why some officials were against sending the alert.

“The pros and cons of an official HAN are what the main discussion is right now. I think it’s likely to be a HAN since that is CDC’s primary method of communications to clinicians and public health departments, but people don’t want to appear alarmist either,” Dr. Sara Oliver wrote.

Oliver was corresponding with an employee of either Pfizer or Moderna, whose name and email were redacted in the copy that was obtained by the news source.

“[The] CDC’s apparent decision to not immediately issue a formal alert to clinicians warning them about the increased risk of myocarditis and pericarditis in vaccinated individuals is not only inexcusable. It’s malpractice,” Sen. Ron Johnson, R–Wis., the top Republican on the Senate Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, said.

The CDC’s move to downplay the risk of heart inflammation fits into a longstanding pattern of transparency issues with agencies and drug companies, Kim Witczak, a drug safety advocate who helped convince regulators to add a suicide warning to antidepressants, added.

“I can’t even believe that this was even a discussion where they’re like, ‘We don’t want to alarm them.’ We do need to alarm people. We need people to be aware that this is a real potential [problem] that could happen,” she said.

PolitiFact’s Parent Company Bribes Journos to Spread Propaganda

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) The parent company of the fact-checking website PolitiFact used money from far-left activists to bribe journalists with “grants” of $10,000 or more to write about “extremism,” “anti-transgender groups” and the successes of Joe Biden’s budget-busting American Rescue Plan.

The Poynter Institute, which pretends to be a politically neutral group of journalism experts, is using money from the Joyce Foundation, the Gill Foundation and the Catena Foundation to fund classes for journalists across the United States so that they would be taught how to cover topics such as “climate change” and “transgender medical care.”

Some of the participants of these classes will then be paid grants that were bankrolled by the activist foundations to write about particular topics for their bribers, according to the Daily Wire.

The overwhelming majority of the Beat Academy classes have an explicit far-left bias, which mirrors the political beliefs of the funders.

One of these classes, titled “Extremist Politics,” will take place on Feb. 1, 2024, and the participants will “learn how to background candidates for extremist ties,” including on “school boards.”

The next session will take place on Feb. 29, 2024, and the journalists who will attend it will be trained on how to write pro-Biden articles.

The funds will also be used to give journalists a “generous travel grant,” room and board to take 25 journalists on a group trip to the southern border to focus on, “how domestic labor demand and politically-driven immigrant busing expose flaws in the system.”

Journalists will also be taking a subsidized class on “transgender coverage” in April that was titled “Mapping out the landscape of anti-transgender groups and their funders.”

“[A] voting systems [class] expands on our webinars on extremism [to] get the latest on election worker threats [and] zero in on the new rules in your state that might expand or limit the ease of casting a ballot,” a description of another class that will take place in July said.

The last session will focus on convincing all local reporters to push the “climate change” propaganda.

“[The program is] the perfect complement to our earlier Beat Academy session on the impact of federal climate and energy programs on disadvantaged communities,” the Poynter Institute said.
