(Ezekiel Loseke, Headline USA) Moms for Liberty, a nonprofit organization seeking to combat critical race theory and mask mandates in schools, held a three-day seminar in Tampa, Florida, last week, where they were joined by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
“Now is not the time to be a shrinking violet,” DeSantis told the group of about 500 “Joyful Warriors”—mostly mothers and grandmothers—in attendance, Politico reported.
“Now is not the time to let them grind you down,” DeSantis continued. “You’ve got to stand up, and you’ve got to fight.”
Founded in 2001 by two moms/former school board members, the group has exploded with membership. Politico reports the group currently boasts over 100,000 members.
The cofounders of the group, Tiffany Justice and Tina Descovich are joined by a third woman, Marie Rogerson, to make up the organization’s current board.
“As former school board members, [Justice and Descovich] witnessed how short-sighted and destructive policies directly hurt children and families,” says its website. “Now they are using their first-hand knowledge and experience to unite parents who are ready to fight those that stand in the way of Liberty. “
The group is known for standing up for children at school board meetings, challenging school boards on critical race theory, and opposing perverted books in school libraries.
“Tina and I needed an army of moms because the superintendents weren’t listening, the school boards weren’t listening,” cofounder Tiffany Justice told Politico.
Justice said she thought self-government was being undermined by a bureaucratic state, arguing that “they were abdicating their authority to bureaucrats.”
