Los Angeles County District Attorney
George Gascon, an ideological twin of Boudin, has found himself in the crosshairs of a recall effort. Both men were funded by left-wing billionaire
George Soros and have been in office for rather short periods. But their constituents have not been impressed with their performances, which have led to skyrocketing crime rates and rampant drug dealing.
Following Boudin’s 20-point defeat, the campaign to recall Gascon released a statement calling for Gascon’s ouster after voters booted Boudin.
“Tonight showed that voters from every community and every walk of life, regardless of political ideology, are rejecting pro-criminal policies that are masked as criminal justice reform,” the group wrote,
according to Breitbart.
“George Gascón and Chesa Boudin’s failed social experiments have destroyed communities while doing nothing to meaningfully reform the system. If LA County voters sign and return their recall petitions, Gascon will be walking the same plank in the very near future.”
Like Boudin, Gascon vowed to overhaul the cities criminal justice system. These reforms included an end to no cash bail, and lighter sentences for major crimes. Petty crimes were also not prosecuted. These policies have inevitably led to a crime wave.
A recent
example of Gascon’s policies in action involved a hit-and-run incident. A mother and her baby were ploughed into by a teen driver who was alleged to be under the influence of drugs. Thankfully, both the mother and her child survived with minor injuries.
The charges for the driver were initially levied as a felony, but Gascon’s office intervened and lessened the sentence to a 5 to 7 month stay at a juvenile probation camp. All of this was done without consulting the Los Angeles Sheriff’s office, and the Sheriff publicly rebuked the DA’s office.
Incidents such as these have led to major backlash from LA citizens. As of last week, the petition to recall Gascon has reached 500,000 of the necessary 566,857 signatures.
As the crime wave continues to rage across Los Angeles, the number of signatures is sure rise, and like Boudin, Gascon’s fate may soon be sealed.
