(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., hinted at the possibility of the GOP initiating an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden, despite initially cautioning against a rushed approach to impeachment.
McCarthy’s statements come in the wake of mounting allegations surrounding the Biden family’s financial dealings and potential misuse of power during Biden’s tenure as vice president.
In a Sunday interview with Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures, McCarthy was asked by Maria Bartiromo about the prospect of an impeachment inquiry, to which he responded, “Only because Republicans took the majority, have we have we found out what President Biden told us when he was running for office is not true.” He highlighted concerns about Biden’s alleged involvement in his son’s business dealings and claimed contradictions between Biden’s statements and emerging evidence.
McCarthy had initially cautioned against a rushed approach towards impeachment but is now warning Biden that he could be face an imminent impeachment inquiry. “We have been out on summer recess right now working in the district,” McCarthy said. “When we go back we will discuss this. We did not know about the whistleblowers coming forth.”
McCarthy originally claimed that House Republicans would only launch impeachment against Biden if the president refused to turn over documents in connection to the several probes led by the GOP.
However, he pointed to several instances of alleged wrongdoing, including Biden’s alleged involvement in his son Hunter’s business transactions. He alleged, “Not only did he call into the meetings, he went to dinner and after the dinner, Hunter Biden got a new Porsche, that there was 3.5 million transferred. We now found out as he was a sitting vice president, the family created 20 shell companies.”
The House speaker also referenced allegations of potential corruption and weaponization within the Biden administration, stating, “We found that Special Prosecutor David Weiss actually let the statute of limitations run out on Hunter Biden’s taxes.”
Highlighting concerns about the impartiality of investigations, McCarthy claimed that the FBI had informed Hunter Biden and the inaugural committee before they could be interviewed, suggesting a possible bias in the investigation process.
When pressed about what other piece of evidence he needs to approve impeachment proceedings, McCarthy responded, “To be able to get the answers to these questions, you would need an impeachment inquiry to empower Congress, Republicans and Democrats, to be able to get the answers that the American people deserve to know.”
