White House Panics, Circulates Defensive Points over Impeachment Threats

'Claims of ‘obstruction’ and ‘stonewalling’ are easily refuted by the facts...'

(Luis CornelioHeadline USA) The scandal-ridden White House is scrambling to push back against threats of an impeachment vote over accusations of stonewalling and refusing to collaborate with House Republicans, Punchbowl News reported on Friday.

Amid these developments, the White House circulated a new memo featuring talking points, accusing Republicans of “trying to invent claims of ‘obstruction’ and ‘stonewalling’ to rationalize their illegitimate so-called ‘impeachment inquiry.’”

Written by White House Oversight spokesperson Ian Sams, the memo comes as House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., hint at an impending impeachment vote.

House Republicans said that the vote is necessary over arguments raised by both the White House and attorneys for the embattled first son, Hunter Biden, that the impeachment lacks legitimacy because the House has not voted to authorize it.

However, as outlined in the talking points, Sams argued that the White House is not rebuffing collaboration with investigators.

“Some House Republicans are even leaning on these false claims as a predicate to vote to formally authorize such an inquiry,” the memo continued. “The problem: Claims of ‘obstruction’ and ‘stonewalling’ are easily refuted by the facts.”

Specifically highlighting a handful of bank records reviewed by House Republicans, including alleged loan repayments, Sams presented this as evidence of Biden’s cooperation with the inquiry.

Notably, among these records are instances purportedly showing Biden received funds from at least one implicated sibling involved in overseas business dealings.

“Despite receiving this significant volume of material, House Republicans have just failed to turn up any evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden – but plenty of evidence debunking their claims,” Sams declared in the memo.

In an interview with Fox News, Johnson emphasized the necessity of the impeachment vote due to alleged lack of cooperation from the White House.

“Our three committees of jurisdiction… have been doing an extraordinary job following the evidence where it leads,” Johnson said. “But now we’re being stonewalled by the White House, because they’re preventing at least two to three DOJ witnesses from coming forward, a former White House counsel, the national archives… the White House has withheld thousands of pages of evidence.

Comer echoed Johnson’s sentiments in a Sunday interview.

“Hunter Biden’s legal team has already sent a letter implying that this wasn’t a legitimate investigation because the impeachment inquiry hadn’t been voted on,” Comer explained. “That was one of the things they were going to try to use in court to keep Hunter Biden from coming to be deposed.”
