Rudy Giuliani is Breathing on His Own While Hospitalized with Pneumonia, Spokesperson Says

(Headline USA) Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is breathing on his own after being hospitalized with pneumonia and placed on a ventilator, his spokesperson said Monday.

Giuliani, 81, remains in critical but stable condition at a Florida hospital and is being monitored as a precautionary measure, spokesperson Ted Goodman said.

Goodman said Giuliani’s condition was exacerbated by restrictive airway disease attributed to his exposure to dust and toxins from the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center.

Giuliani’s hospitalization, near Palm Beach, Florida, came after he was heard coughing Friday on his nightly online talk show and hoarsely told viewers that his voice was “a little under the weather.”

“This condition adds complications to any respiratory illness, and the virus quickly overwhelmed his body, requiring mechanical ventilation to maintain adequate oxygen and stabilize his condition,” Goodman said in a statement.

He described Giuliani as “the ultimate fighter” and said, “he is winning this battle.”

Giuliani’s family and primary medical provider are by the former mayor’s side, Goodman added. He said they thanked well-wishers for an “outpouring of love and support.”

“The mayor believes in the power of prayer, and we are feeling that strength today,” Goodman said.

Giuliani’s eight-year tenure as the mayor of the nation’s largest city was punctuated by the 9/11 attack just months before he left office. He became celebrated as “America’s mayor” for his leadership, knighted by Queen Elizabeth II and named Time magazine’s Person of the Year.

Giuliani, a Republican, later made an unsuccessful run for president and was an adviser to President Donald Trump, spearheading his efforts to stay in office after his 2020 election loss.

Last year, Trump said he was awarding Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Giuliani coughed as he began his nightly online show “America’s Mayor Live” on Friday. As he spoke, he sounded more raspy than usual. Before launching into a commentary on the Iran war, he remarked: “My voice is a little under the weather, so I won’t be able to speak as loudly as I usually do, but I’ll get closer to the microphone.”

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump called Giuliani “a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR.”

“What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!” Trump wrote Sunday. “They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!”

Giuliani was previously hospitalized last September after suffering a fractured vertebra and other injuries in a car crash in New Hampshire.

A native New Yorker, Giuliani was elected mayor in 1993 after serving as one of the nation’s highest-profile federal prosecutors, taking on mobsters and crooked Wall Street traders.

He ran for the U.S. Senate in 2000 but abandoned his race against Hillary Rodham Clinton after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

In 2007, Giuliani ran for president. Buoyed by his post-9/11 popularity, he started as the front-runner for the Republican nomination. But that was short-lived. He withdrew from the race after struggling in the primaries amid GOP concerns about his past support for abortion rights, gay rights and gun control, and questions about his personal life and business ties to the Middle East.

He toyed with running for other offices before pivoting to political commentary.

(Kyle Anzalone, Libertarian Institute) President Donald Trump is ramping up pressure on Tel Aviv to grant a pardon to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Israeli leader is battling multiple corruption charges.

Trump told the Israeli outlet Kan News on Sunday, “Tell your president to pardon Bibi [Netanyahu’s nickname]. He’s a wartime prime minister. They wouldn’t have Israel if it wasn’t for me and Bibi in that order. You want to have a PM that can focus on the war, not focus on nonsense.”

Netanyahu and his wife are facing multiple corruption charges. Israel’s President Issac Herzog has the power to grant Netanyahu a pardon. Last week, Trump said Herzog could become an Israeli hero by granting Netanyahu a pardon. “I like the guy, Herzog,” Trump said. “He will be a national hero if he gives Bibi a pardon. I will very much appreciate it.”

Herzog says he does not plan to make a decision until negotiations with Netanyahu’s legal team are concluded. Israel will hold elections in October. If Netanyahu’s Likud does not win the election, the chance that the Prime Minister could go to jail increases.

Prior to last week, Trump was attacking Herzog in an effort to pressure him into granting Netanyahu a pardon.

Trump has equated his legal battles with Netanyahu, dismissing both as “witch hunts.”

(Dave DeCamp, Antiwar.com) President Trump said on Friday that the US Navy was acting “like pirates” while enforcing the blockade against Iran, comments that affirm Tehran’s characterization of the US military action, which has involved seizing ships and Iranian oil.

“We … land on top of it and we took over the ship,” Trump told a crowd of his supporters during a rally in Florida while discussing an Iranian cargo ship the US military fired on and boarded in the Gulf of Oman.

“We took over the cargo, took over the oil. It’s a very profitable business. Who would have thought we were doing that? We’re like pirates. We’re like pirates. We’re sort of like pirates, but we’re not playing games,” he added.

Esmaeil Baqaei, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, said that Trump’s comments were an acknowledgment of the criminal nature of the US blockade.

“The President of the United States has openly described the unlawful seizure of Iranian vessels as ‘piracy,’ brazenly boasting that ‘we act like pirates.’ This was no verbal slip. It was a direct and damning admission of the criminal nature of their actions against international maritime navigation,” Baqaei wrote on X.

“The international community, UN Member States, and the UN Secretary-General must firmly reject any normalization of such blatant violations of international law,” the Iranian spokesman added.

US Will ‘Guide’ Ships Out of the Strait of Hormuz Starting Monday Morning

(Dave DeCamp, Antiwar.com) President Trump said in a long post on Truth Social on Sunday night that the US has informed other countries that it will help “guide” their commercial ships out of the Strait of Hormuz, a move that would mark an escalation of US military operations off of Iran’s coast and risk an Iranian response.

The president dubbed the effort “Project Freedom” and said that it would begin on Monday morning, Iran time. Trump said the countries the US will assist are “neutral” and the “victim of circumstance,” that circumstance being the US and Israel launching a war with Iran.

“This is a Humanitarian gesture on behalf of the United States, Middle Eastern Countries, But, in particular, the Country of Iran,” Trump wrote. “If, in any way, this Humanitarian process is interfered with, that interference will, unfortunately, have to be dealt with forcefully.”

In response to Trump’s announcement, a senior Iranian official told Drop Site News that the move “is primarily intended to provoke Iran into taking an initial step toward confrontation, thereby creating a pretext for escalation and enabling him to justify further military action in response to an Iranian initiative.”

The official said that Iran’s “definitive position is that any commercial vessel attempting to transit through designated restricted routes without prior coordination will be promptly intercepted by Iranian forces. Should U.S. military vessels respond, such actions would be met with an immediate and corresponding response from Iran.”

The Iranian official also noted that US warships are currently far from the Strait of Hormuz and that if any commercial ships attempt to exit the Persian Gulf, they would be intercepted by Iranian vessels well before reaching the US naval armada.

US officials told Axios that Trump’s announcement doesn’t necessarily mean that US Navy ships would be escorting commercial vessels. They said US warships would be in the “vicinity,” but that it would involve the Navy providing information to commercial ships about the best way to navigate through the strait.

Trump also said in the post that his representatives are “having very positive discussions with the Country of Iran, and that these discussions could lead to something very positive for all,” though there are currently no direct negotiations as messages are being passed through Pakistan.

The US has responded to Iran’s new proposal, which, according to Iranian media, is aimed at putting a permanent end to hostilities in the region, including in Lebanon, where Israel has continued its occupation, heavy strikes, and demolition of buildings despite a ceasefire agreement and Trump’s declaration that Israel was “prohibited” from further attacks in the country.

Some media reports said that Iran’s 14-point proposal included a 15-year freeze on Iran’s uranium enrichment and a resumption of enrichment at the 3.67% level, but Iran’s Foreign Ministry denied that it was the case. “The plan we have presented is centered on ending the war. There are absolutely no details regarding the country’s nuclear issues in this proposal,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei.

Baqaei also said that the “Americans have given their answer to Iran’s 14-point plan to the Pakistani side, and we are currently reviewing it.”

(Headline USA) A mass shooting at a party at a lake near Oklahoma City sent at least 13 people to hospitals, according to police and hospital officials.

Edmond police spokesperson Emily Ward said authorities received reports of shots being fired at about 9 p.m. Sunday at a gathering of young people near Arcadia Lake. She said late Sunday that no arrests had been made yet.

“This is obviously a very terrifying situation and we understand the concern from the public and those involved and we are working extremely hard to find the suspects,” she said.

“We’re kind of all over the metro speaking with victims and witnesses,” Ward said.

She said that 10 people were taken to hospitals and others drove themselves. She said victims were in “various conditions.”

Police did not immediately respond to an email seeking information early Monday.

Ten people were at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City and three were at Integris Health Edmond Hospital as of Monday morning, according to a hospital system spokesperson.

While police did not provide details about the party, a flyer seen on social media after the shooting suggested that an event called Sunday Funday had been scheduled near the lake Sunday evening.

Arcadia Lake, located around 13 miles (21 kilometers) north of Oklahoma City, is an artificial reservoir used for flood control that is also a popular recreational spot that offers fishing, boating, picnicking and camping. It’s located in Edmond, an Oklahoma City suburb with about 100,000 residents.

Forty years ago, Edmond was the site of one of the deadliest workplace shootings in U.S. history. On Aug. 20, 1986, postal worker Patrick Sherrill shot 20 co-workers, killing 14 of them. He then killed himself.

1,500 Beagles Rescued from Tortuous Research Lab

(Headline USA) The first beagles removed from a Wisconsin dog breeding and research facility that was the site of recent protests seemed to know right away that they were safe.

“They started within an hour or so coming up to us, wanting attention. Some crawled in people’s laps. Every single one of them are super sweet,” Lauree Simmons, president and founder of Big Dog Ranch Rescue, said Sunday. “I think they are loving the attention. I just know they know they’re safe.”

Big Dog Ranch Rescue and the Center for a Humane Economy negotiated a confidential agreement to purchase the 1,500 dogs for an undisclosed price from Ridglan Farms, where police used tear gas and pepper spray to repel activists trying to take beagles from the facility last month. Protesters also broke into the facility in March and took 30 dogs. Sixty-three people were referred by the sheriff’s department to the district attorney for potential charges related to that break-in.

Talks to purchase the animals began months before the April disturbance, and Simmons said her group wasn’t connected to the protests. Now, Big Dog Ranch Rescue is working with partners all over the country to find homes for 1,000 of the dogs, while the Center for a Humane Economy is taking the rest.

Simmons said her group has received over 700 adoption applications, but it might take some time before the hounds are ready for their new homes as the organization screens potential dog parents, moves the animals to shelters around the country and ensures the beagles are housebroken.

The first 300 dogs were taken from Ridglan on Friday, with more scheduled for removal over the next week. The animal groups have set up a staging area with play yards in Wisconsin, where the dogs are being vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered and prepared for transport, Simmons said. Big Dog Ranch Rescue has already started moving dogs to its location in western Palm Beach County, Florida.

“The younger dogs will adjust quicker, and the older dogs will take time,” Simmons said. “A lot of them are more willing to accept love and want to be with people.”

Ridglan Farms didn’t immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

Beagles are the most common breed of dog used for animal testing, primarily because of their smaller size and gentle temperament, Simmons said.

“A Belgian Malinois is not going to put up with being tested on, being confined in a kennel their whole life,” Simmons said of the athletic shepherd dogs commonly used by police and the military. “Beagles are just so trusting and docile and calm and forgiving, so they are the most chosen dogs for animal testing. And so we’re going to take one of the sweetest, kindest, most trusting breeds and abuse them? This is wrong. This needs to stop.”

Ridglan Farms agreed in October to give up its state breeding license as of July 1 as part of a deal to avoid prosecution on felony animal mistreatment charges. The firm has denied mistreating animals, but a special prosecutor determined that Ridglan Farms was performing eye procedures that violated state veterinary standards.

About 1,000 activists from across the country came to Ridglan Farms in the rural village of Blue Mounds, about 25 miles southwest of Madison, on April 18 in an attempt to take the beagles. They were met by police who used tear gas, rubber bullets and pepper spray. The Dane County Sheriff’s Department said 29 people were arrested and five face felony burglary charges.

Activists have filed a federal lawsuit in Wisconsin alleging that police used unnecessary force. Ridglan has said those who tried to break in were a “violent mob” who launched “an assault on a federally licensed research facility.”

Michigan Senate Candidate Called Out for ‘Illegal’ Voting in California

(Ben Sellers, Headline USA) One of the leading Democratic candidates for the open U.S. Senate seat in Michigan faced a series of recent setbacks, buoying GOP hopes of a seat flip in the blue-leaning battleground state.

State Sen. Mallory McMorrow, who is a frontrunner to replace retiring Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., was grilled Sunday morning on CNN over revelations that she had voted in a 2016 California primary election — a full two years after she relocated to Michigan.

Inside Politics host Manu Raju pressed her not only on the dubious ballot-casting, but also her hypocrisy for having made past statements criticizing someone who allegedly had cast an “illegal” ballot in Michigan after moving to California.

McMorrow, however, appeared to shrug off the question of legality in her own case, saying simply that “moving takes a long time.”

It is unclear whether she continued to have property in California at the time of the 2016 primary election, or if she had registered to vote already in Michigan.

Michigan law stipulates that new residents must apply for a state driver’s license and vehicle registration as soon as they establish residency.

“There is no grace period provided in Michigan law,” according to a section on the secretary of state’s website.

McMorrow previously attacked conservative journalist Aldo Buttazzoni, a Claremont Institute fellow who is also affiliated with PragerU, after he wrote that he had cast his ballot for Republican President Donald Trump in Michigan, not Los Angeles.

“So you moved for work and live in California but are registered somewhere you no longer live?” McMorrow replied. “Hopefully PragerU knows that’s illegal.”

The awkward gotcha moment on Sunday from what should have been a sympathetic network was at least the second significant gaffe for McMorrow in a week’s span.

Days earlier, she was reportedly caught deleting thousands of old X posts, including some in which she disparaged Michigan and expressed a desire to return to California.

She repeatedly trashed “middle America” and wrote in a January 2017 post, “There are days like these that make me miss California even more.”

Her spokeswoman, Hannah Lindow, insisted that a mass deletion of posts ahead of a contentious political race was “pretty standard for candidates” and that there was nothing to be concerned about in the vanishing tweets.

“These are normal tweets by a normal person,” Lindow claimed.

But critics have said McMorrow seems anything but normal.

Video of her performative entrance into last month’s state Democratic convention, dancing and prancing alongside a drum line and a parade of people holding signs and cutouts of her head, prompted several high-profile accounts to ridicule her as a “theater kid.”

An official account for the Trump campaign pointed out that her democratic primary rivals were no better.

“Their entire bench is CRINGE!” said the post.

New polling showed McMorrow trailing another Democrat opponent, Abdul El-Sayed, a former state health official who has campaigned alongside controversial far-left provocateur Hasan Piker.

Former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, who narrowly lost his 2024 Senate bid to Sen. Elissa Slotkin by around 20,000 votes (0.3%), appeared to have a significant lead over El-Sayed in a two-way race.

Alleged Correspondents’ Dinner Attacker Shot an Agent, Prosecutor Says

(Headline USA) Authorities have determined that buckshot from the gun of the man charged with trying to storm the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in an attempt to kill President Donald Trump struck a Secret Service agent, according to the federal prosecutor overseeing the investigation.

Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, said last week there was no evidence the agent was hit by friendly fire during the incident at a Washington hotel on April 25, but she went beyond that Sunday in saying a shot from one of Cole Tomas Allen’s weapons hit the officer’s bullet-resistant vest.

“We now can establish that a pellet that came from the buckshot from the defendant’s Mossberg pump-action shotgun was intertwined with the fiber of the vest of the Secret Service officer,” she told CNN’s “State of the Union.” “It is definitively his bullet.”

Allen, who remains behind bars for now pending his trial, was injured during the attack but was not shot. The officer survived.

On Thursday, Pirro posted a video on social media showing the moment that authorities say a man with guns and knives attempted to storm the media gala. Questions have lingered about whose bullet struck the officer as the suspect ran through security with a long gun toward the ballroom packed with journalists, administration officials and others.

A phone call to lawyers representing Allen went unanswered on Sunday.

Allen has been charged with attempted assassination of the president, as well as two additional firearms counts, including discharging a weapon during a crime of violence. He faces up to life in prison if convicted of the assassination count alone.

Allen, 31, is from Torrance, California. He worked as a part-time tutor for a test preparation company and is an amateur video game developer.

Texas Mass Shooting Hits 12, Kills 2; Suspect Still At Large

(Headline USA) Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying suspects in a shooting at a party in Amarillo, Texas, that killed two teenagers and wounded 10 other people.

City authorities say they are looking for two people who opened fire at an apartment complex at about 2 a.m. Saturday and are asking local residents to check their doorbell and surveillance cameras for any unusual activity around that time. Details on a motive were not released.

Surveillance video released by police shows two suspects opening fire at the outside of an apartment. Yelling and screaming follow, then more gunshots ring out.

“When I looked outside and came outside it was complete chaos,” neighbor Phillip Thrasher told KTVT-TV. “I mean there was kids running everywhere, just screaming and running. They didn’t even know where they were running to, you know. And then moms and dads showed up and came to their kids’ rescues. The ones that could, the ones that couldn’t were so upset. I mean there was nothing you could do.”

Amarillo police said two teens, ages 16 and 17, were killed and 10 others injured. The conditions of the wounded were not released.

“The investigation into this morning’s events have identified that the suspects have an affiliation with the targeted location and were known to one of the occupants at the party,” Police Chief Thomas Hover said in a statement on Saturday.

Police said the people involved had been at a party at a different location and were asked to leave, then went to the complex where the shooting occurred.

Phone messages were left Sunday for police officials and management of the apartment complex, located close to Interstate 40 about 6 miles (10 kilometers) west of downtown Amarillo.

Hover said police had increased patrol staffing after separate shootings killed six people in Amarillo on March 22.
