BREAKING: Rep. Ken Buck to Leave Congress Next Week

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., made a surprise announcement Tuesday that he will be leaving Congress by the end of next week.

Buck announced his retirement last November, but indicated at the time that he intended to serve the rest of this term. Buck’s Tuesday announcement did not explain the change in timing.

Liberals suggested that Buck can’t take being part of the GOP any longer, while conservatives suggested that the congressman is being blackmailed out of office.

Either way, “House GOP has a two seat majority as of next week,” noted Capitol Hill reporter Juliegrace Brufke in response to the announcement.

When Buck initially announced his retirement last month, he downplayed valid GOP concerns about the 2020 presidential election and the persecution of peaceful MAGA protestors in his departure message.

In a video message posted online, Buck said last November that voters’ hopes that Republicans will take decisive action may be in vain, and that his party’s “insidious narratives breed widespread cynicism and erode Americans’ confidence in the rule of law.”

“Too many Republican leaders are lying to America, claiming that the 2020 election was stolen, describing Jan. 6 as an unguided tour of the Capitol and asserting that the ensuing prosecutions are a weaponization of our justice system,” Buck said at the time.

Buck has not adequately explained why GOP leaders are wrong in expressing concerns about the Justice Department targeting participants in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill protest. The vast majority of the protestors were entirely peaceful, and the DOJ has since targeted legitimate journalists and other activists simply for stepping foot in the “restricted area” of Capitol grounds.

The 64-year-old former prosecutor, who has served in Congress since 2015, was one of the eight Republicans who joined with Democrats to oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in early October. Buck eventually threw his support behind Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana for speaker, despite Johnson’s own efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election through a legal challenge.

Buck’s decision not to seek reelection came the same day U.S. Rep. Kay Granger of Texas, the Republican chairwoman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, said she would not seek reelection in 2024 after nearly three decades in Congress.

Granger, who at 80 is the nation’s longest-serving GOP congresswoman, said, “It’s time for the next generation to step up and take the mantle and be a strong and fierce representative for the people.

Buck’s primary challenger, MAGA candidate Trent Leisy, has celebrated Buck’s departure.

“My RINO primary opponent, Ken Buck, just DROPPED OUT OF THE RACE over President Trump’s ACCURATE rigged election claims,” he said last November. “I’m running as an America First candidate that will MAKE COLORADO GREAT AGAIN!”

GOP Rep.: J6 Pipe Bomber May Never Be Successfully Prosecuted

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) The House Administration’s Subcommittee on Oversight held a hearing Tuesday to examine law enforcement’s response to the pipe bombs placed outside the RNC and DNC headquarters ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill uprising.

At the hearing, subcommittee Chair Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., played surveillance footage of Secret Service agents and their bomb-sniffing bombs searching the DNC around 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 6—but failing to detect the pipe bomb. The DNC pipe bomb wasn’t discovered until a plainclothes Capitol Police officer found it around 1:05 p.m.—shortly before the protest was turning into a riot at Capitol Hill.

After the Capitol Police discovered the pipe bomb at 1:05 p.m., at least 30 vehicles and countless pedestrians passed nearby. Those passersby included Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, who was evacuated from the DNC after the discovery.

At Tuesday’s hearing, Rep. Morgan Griffith, R-Va., explained how those series of events may make it impossible to successfully prosecute the pipe bomber, who also placed a device outside the RNC.

Griffith contended that a good defense lawyer would argue that because the Secret Service didn’t detect the bomb at 9:30 a.m., someone might have planted the bomb between that time and when it was discovered at 1:05 p.m. Therefore, even if the person seen on camera planting devices on Jan. 5 is identified, prosecutors will have a difficult time proving that the devices planted on Jan. 5 were the same as those discovered on Jan. 6.

“Here’s what a good criminal defense attorney’s going to say: If you identified the individual who’s believed to place the bomb, then hours go by, and you had a search by the Secret Service at the DNC and the dog didn’t find the explosive—so clearly, the device [the defense attorney’s] client might have left there wasn’t the device that was determined to be the pipe bomb, because it wasn’t picked up by the bomb-sniffing dog,” Griffith argued.

Tuesday’s hearing builds on evidence released by Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., last July, when he played video in Congress of the passerby—who now reportedly turns out to be undercover Capitol Police— “miraculously” finding a pipe bomb outside of the DNC headquarters.

Massie suggested at the time that the pipe bombs placed outside the DNC and RNC were distractions to divert law enforcement away from the Capitol, right around the time as the election protests were about to become violent.

“It was specifically at the same precise time to cause maximum distraction from the events going on at the Capitol,” he said last July. “It appears to me that that wasn’t a coincidence.”

Boomeranging Bidenflation Derails Campaign’s Economic Talking Points

() Consumer prices jumped again in February, in part driven by a significant rise in gasoline prices, according to newly released federal inflation data.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released its Consumer Price Index Tuesday, a leading marker of inflation, which showed prices rose 0.4% in February and 3.2% over the past year.

Prices rose 0.3% in January.

Jason Furman, Harvard professor and former economic advisor to President Barack Obama, took note of the inflation data on Twitter, calling it “unusually high.”

“Core CPI came in high for the eighth month in a row,” he said.

“For perspective, the 3/6/12 month rates higher than any time from 1992-2019,” Furman added. “Inflation remains unusually high.”

The increase in prices was powered in part by the rise in gasoline prices and shelter prices.

“The index for shelter rose in February, as did the index for gasoline. Combined, these two indexes contributed over sixty percent of the monthly increase in the index for all items,” BLS said.

“The energy index rose 2.3 percent over the month, as all of its component indexes increased,” it continued. “The food index was unchanged in February, as was the food at home index. The food away from home index rose 0.1 percent over the month.”

Some items rose in price faster than the average index for February. For instance, clothing prices rose 0.6% last month, and used cars and trucks rose 0.5%.

Meanwhile, food prices remained steady.

Inflation soared in the first half of President Joe Biden’s term but had slowed in the past year.

The latest data could signal a resurgence of prices, which have increased more than 17% since Biden took office.

Biden took fire from Republicans after the data was released.

“The latest numbers confirm: Joe Biden’s crushing inflation is far from over,” Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., tweeted. “And American families are still suffering from Biden’s reckless policies.”

Hur Confirms Biden Lied about Mishandling Classified Docs

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Special Counsel Robert Hur admitted Tuesday at a much-anticipated congressional hearing that President Joe Biden lied when he told reporters last month that he did not share classified documents with his ghost writer.

Hur made this admission in response to questions from Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla, who referenced a Feb. 8 press conference Biden held at the White House. There, Biden told reporters, “I did not share classified information. I did not share it. I guarantee I did not.”

Hur told Gaetz Biden’s statement is “inconsistent with the findings based on the evidence in my report.”

“‘It’s a lie,’ is what regular people would say, right?” Gaetz responded, which caused Hur to smile in the affirmative.

Gaetz then asked about Biden’s assertion that “all the stuff in my home was in filing cabinets that were locked or were able to be locked.”

Hur also confirmed that statement was false. Biden kept some of the classified documents in a cardboard box in his garage.

Tuesday’s hearing came as both Biden and Trump were on the cusp of claiming their party’s nominations, and the party lines calcified almost immediately over which leader meant to hang on to classified documents, or rather, who “willfully” retained them — and who didn’t.

Republicans argued Biden was being given a pass by his own Justice Department and that Trump had been unfairly victimized by prosecutors. Democrats, for their part, stressed Biden’s cooperation in the investigation and strongly contrasted that with the separate criminal case against Trump, who refused to return classified documents requested by the National Archives that he had at his Florida estate.

Hur’s report cited evidence that Biden willfully held on to highly classified information and shared it with a ghostwriter, based on audio of the conversations between the two men in which Biden said he had just come across some classified documents at his home.

According to the transcript, Biden said he did not recall the exchange, or that he had actually discovered any documents. He said if he had discussed anything questionable with the ghostwriter, it was in referring to a 20-page sensitive memo he had written to then-President Barack Obama in 2009 arguing against surging troops in Afghanistan that he wanted to ensure didn’t make it into publication.

Perhaps the most notable finding from Hur’s report is that he chose not to prosecute the President due to his failing cognitive abilities.

“Mr. Biden’s memory was significantly limited, both during his recorded interviews with the ghostwriter in 2017, and in his interview with our office in 2023. And his cooperation with our investigation … will likely convince some jurors that he made an innocent mistake, rather than acting willfully-that is, with intent to break the law-as the statute requires,” Hur said in his report.

“We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

Tuesday’s hearing was still ongoing as of the publication of this article.

Jan. 6 Shooter Claimed He Was a ‘Fed’

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) It took the Justice Department more than three years to charge the only member of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill uprising to fire a gun. Moreover, the DOJ only charged the man after footage of the shooting was released last month by a J6 protestor.

Those circumstances strike some observers as suspicious.

The Twitter account of the shooter, John Emanuel Banuelos, has amplified those suspicions. Shortly after the news of Banuelos’s arrest was broken, Headline USA found old tweets where he claimed to be a “fed.” The twitter account is the same one referenced in DOJ charging papers—meaning that it indeed belongs to Banuelos.

“Do you want information from a former fed let me know,” Banuelos said in one tweet.

To be sure, Banuelos’s account shows signs of possible mental illness. The Jan. 6 shooter himself admitted to having been institutionalized in the past.

“Now I’ve got a purpose … Democrats just give you free stuff and they don’t tell you you’re crazy. How many hospitals have I been to? How many mental hospitals? Because I thought I had a problem … Now I’ve got to reprogram my brain and be humble … I’m willing to play my role. Are you willing to play yours?” he said a video apparently shot the night before Jan. 6.

However, his claims of being a fed, when coupled with the fact that the DOJ only charged him after a protestor released the shooting footage three years after it happened, has struck observers as suspicious.

“He has a lengthy rap sheet at least 14 arrests in 2 states. No charges for a fatal stabbing even though he’s a lifelong petty criminal with arrests for evading police, domestic battery, and false ID? Nothing adds up here,” conservative reporter Julie Kelly said in reaction to Banuelos’s tweets.

Banuelos, for his part, is set to have a detention hearing Wednesday. A judge has appointed Seema Ahmad to serve as his public defender.

Banuelos was first in the public spotlight in February 2022, when news broke that he had been arrested in relation to a fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old in a Utah park in July 2021.

When he was arrested, he reportedly told police about his activities on Jan. 6.

“Man, should I just tell the FBI to come get me or what …?” Banuelos, 39, asked detectives, according to a transcript of the interview obtained by KSL.com through a public records request.

“Do you have a warrant?” one detective asked.

“Probably,” he said. “I was in the D.C. riots.”

“On Jan. 6?” the other detective asked. “Did you go inside the Capitol?”

“Yeah, I went inside and I’m the one with the video with the gun right here,” Banuelos said.

Price Inflation Is Sticky and That’s a Problem

(Mike Maharrey, Money Metals News Service) Price inflation is like the gum on the bottom of your shoe that you just can’t scrape off. Or maybe it’s like a movie theater floor after a big premiere.

It’s sticky.

And that’s a problem.

The CPI data for February wasn’t anything to panic about. But nobody is throwing a party either. That’s because, like that gum adhering to your tennis shoe, it just won’t go away.

And that should come as no surprise given the amount of money the Federal Reserve and the U.S. government have injected into the economy since 2008.

Annual CPI rose by 3.2 percent, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That headline number was 0.1 percent higher than last month. The projection was for CPI to remain unchanged at 3.1 percent.

For folks keeping score at home, annual CPI was 3.1 percent in November.

On a monthly basis, CPI heated up a little more, with prices rising 0.4 percent after a 0.3 percent increase in January.

For a little perspective, prices have gone up by nearly 1 percent (0.9%) in the last three months. That annualizes to 3.6 percent, so the trend appears to be hotter, not cooler.

Excluding more volatile food and energy prices (as if anybody can exclude those things from their budgets) core CPI was also up 0.4 percent. On an annual basis, the core CPI dropped to 3.8 percent, down from 3.9 percent last month. This is the only number in the entire report pundits, government officials and central bankers can spin as good news. And they probably will.

In reality, the core data underscores the stickiness of price inflation. It has been hovering around the 4 percent range since July.

You will notice that all of these numbers remain well above the mythical Federal Reserve 2 percent inflation target. The Fed claims to be data-dependent. Well, the data tells us that any talk of inflation’s demise was premature. No matter how you slice, dice, or massage the numbers, nothing indicates the Fed is anywhere near winning this fight.

And keep in mind, inflation is worse than the government data suggest. The government revised the CPI formula in the 1990s so that it understates the actual rise in prices. Based on the formula used in the 1970s, CPI is closer to double the official numbers. So, if the BLS was using the old formula, we’re looking at CPI closer to 6 percent. And using an honest formula, it would probably be worse than that.

Looking a little more deeply at the numbers, gasoline prices were up 3.6 percent in February. Shelter also charted another big increase, rising another 0.4 percent. Gasoline and shelter prices contributed about 60 percent of the overall CPI increase.

But prices increased month-on-month in every category except new cars and medical care services.

The February CPI data was largely in line with expectations. In other words, everybody knows that price inflation is sticky.  But nobody likes it.

Most pundits agree that the current CPI trajectory won’t give the Federal Reserve enough wiggle room to cut rates until later this summer – if then. Capital Economics economist Paul Ashworth told CNBC the February CPI data leaves Fed officials some way from attaining the ‘greater confidence’ needed to begin cutting interest rates.”

What nobody wants to say out loud is that rates are too high for an economy loaded up with trillions in debt. It’s only a matter of time before something breaks.

And while slowing the flow of easy money was enough to wreck a bubble economy, it wasn’t enough to slay price inflation. That’s why it’s still sticky. If the central bankers at the Fed were truly committed to driving price inflation back to 2 percent, they would be talking about additional rate hikes – not pending rate cuts.

Because, yes, monetary policy is tighter. But it isn’t tight. Despite all of the jawboning about their commitment to reining in price inflation, the central bankers at the Fed know this. The Chicago Fed’s own Financial Conditions Index tells them so.

The NFCI came in at –0.47 in the week ending March 1. That negative number means financial conditions are historically loose.

No wonder price inflation is sticky.

Easy money is the mother’s milk of this economy. It can’t live without it. That’s why the markets are so desperate for rate cuts. The irony is they want price inflation to come down so the Fed can go back to the inflationary policies that got us here to begin with. They want artificially low-interest rates. They want the Fed’s big fat thumb on the bond market. They want money creation.

That’s what got us here. It was the gum on the floor we all stepped in.

After the 2008 financial crisis, the Fed slashed rates to zero and held them artificially low for nearly a decade. It launched three rounds of quantitative easing, creating nearly $4 trillion out of thin air. It quickly abandoned its only effort to normalize monetary policy in 2018 when the economy got shaky and the stock market crashed. Then it doubled down during the pandemic, dropping rates to zero again and injecting almost $5 trillion more into the economy.

The question isn’t, “Why is inflation sticky?” The question is, “Why is anybody remotely surprised inflation is sticky given the amount of money created?”

And the answer to that question is that the Fed and the U.S. government have run a masterful public relations campaign to avoid culpability for the inflation problem. They create money out of thin air, pass it out like candy, and then point the finger of blame at “greedy corporations,” or “Putin’s price hikes,” or voodoo.

But no matter who they blame, reality is what it is. And the reality is inflation is sticky.

Biden Accuser Tara Reade Scolds E.J. Carroll’s ‘Hypocrisy’

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Tara Reade, who accused President Joe Biden of sexually assaulting her over 30 years ago, has scolded E. Jean Carroll’s response to Rep. Nancy Mace’s endorsement of Donald Trump for president.

Carroll, who claims she was raped by Trump, is facing criticism for supporting Biden’s re-election campaign.

In tweets posted on Twitter, Reade criticized Carroll’s apparent double standard as the latter has backed Biden despite acknowledging the 1993 sexual assault allegations Reade made against him when Biden was a Senator.

“You know I was raped by Biden when I was his staffer and silenced by the media and yet you publicly support my rapist!” Reade wrote in a Monday tweet, directly tagging Carroll’s page.

Reade’s comments followed Carroll’s reaction to a video featuring ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos questioning Mace about her support for Trump despite the rape allegations.

In the video, Mace told Stephanopoulos: “You’re asking me a question about my political choices, trying to shame me as a rape victim, and I find it disgusting.”

In response to the exchange between Stephanopoulos and Mace, Carroll thanked Stephanopoulos for “valiantly defending” her. Carroll previously won a defamation suit against Trump, who had allegedly defamed her after she accused him of rape.

Despite privately supporting Reade’s account of Biden’s alleged sexual assault, Carroll has endorsed Biden’s re-election campaign, prompting Reade’s criticism.

“Sit down before you lecture other rape survivors,” Reade added on Twitter, referring to Carroll. “Hypocrisy surrounding you.”

Reade accompanied her tweets with a screenshot of a message allegedly sent by Carroll, reading: “Boy! You are really, REALLY getting hit tonight, Tara. I have just read some of your trolls. They are without brains, without class, without morals—-and they DON’T know what they are talking about.”

Reade first brought her allegations against Biden to light in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election but has since left the country, citing concerns for her safety and potential retribution for her claims.

WH Says Biden ‘Absolutely’ Did Not Apologize to Illegal, Despite Video

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The White House is in damage control mode following President Joe Biden’s reversal of his remarks about the illegal alien accused of carrying out the brutal murder of Laken Riley, a beloved Georgia nursing student.

On Monday, White House spokesperson Olivia Dalton claimed that Biden “absolutely” did not apologize to Jose Antonio Ibarra, the 26-year-old Venezuelan national currently facing murder charges.

“First of all, I want to be really clear about something: the president absolutely did not apologize,” Dalton retorted when questioned about Biden’s apology to the illegal alien, as reported by Fox News.

“There was no apology anywhere in that conversation. He did not apologize. He used a different word,” she added, contradicting Biden’s own statements.

In a Sunday interview on MSNBC Reports, Biden stated, “I shouldn’t have used ‘illegal,’ it’s ‘undocumented.’”

His Sunday remarks retracted the strong language used against Riley’s alleged murderer during his State of the Union address on Thursday.

During that address, Biden claimed, “Lincoln, Lincoln [sic] Riley, an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal.” These remarks followed heckling by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green, R-Ga.

Biden’s use of the term “illegal,” chastised as offensive to individuals residing in the country illegally, sparked outrage among Democrat lawmakers on social media. Even former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi cited their preference for the term “undocumented.”

Biden’s reference to Riley coincided with his call to Congress on Thursday to pass a contentious border bill. However, House Republicans vehemently oppose the bill, asserting that Biden already has the authority to secure the southern border.

Riley’s tragic death has been attributed to the Biden administration after Ibarra was paroled into the U.S. in September 2022. A year later, the NYPD arrested Ibarra for allegedly driving a moped with a child on board and without a license. Despite this, ICE did not issue a detainer for the man.

Ibarra ultimately made his way to Georgia, where law enforcement officials said he randomly attacked Riley last month. The nature of Ibarra’s attack was so violent that he disfigured Riley’s skull, as alleged in the state charges.

Entire Deadspin Staff Axed by New Bosses after Defaming 9-Year-Old

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The change in ownership at sports blog site Deadspin resulted in the termination of all its staff members, including a writer who falsely accused a young child of wearing blackface and disrespecting Native Americans, reported the New York Post on Monday.

The news of the sale and subsequent mass firing came just months after Deadspin was forced to apologize for publishing a dubious news article that targeted young Kansas City Chiefs fan, Holden Armenta.

The now-edited article, published by Carron Phillips on Nov. 27, accused the boy of being racially insensitive, pointing to a partial photo featuring the young boy with a black and red-painted face and wearing a Native American headdress.

However, it was later revealed that Armenta himself was of Native American descent, prompting his father to take legal action against the company.

The child’s family initiated a defamation lawsuit against the company without disclosing the specific damages sought.

“Journalism — and the country as a whole — is better today now that Carron Phillips no longer has a platform to target innocent kids with his agenda-driven writing,” said Libby Locke, an attorney for the family.

Deadspin’s parent company, G/O Media, announced widespread layoffs following the sale of the news outlet to Lineup Publishing.

According to G/O Media CEO Jim Spanfeller, the new owners decided against retaining “any of the site’s existing staff and instead build a new team more in line with their editorial vision for the brand.”

In a memo to its 11 staff members, Spanfeller wrote: “While the new owners plan to be reverential to Deadpin’s unique voice, they plan to take a different content approach regarding the site’s overall sports coverage.”

Phillips’s blog against the child bore the disturbing headline: “The NFL needs to speak out against the Kansas City Chiefs fan in Black face, Native Headdress.”

But despite Phillips’s assertions, Raul Armenta, the child’s grandfather, was subsequently revealed to be a board member of the California-based Chumas Tribe in Santa Ynez.

Deadspin has since edited the article, claiming that the original intent was to criticize the NFL rather than the child.

“Unfortunately the article drew attention to the fan, though our intended focus was on the NFL and its checkered history on race, an issue which our writer has covered extensively for Deadspin,” an editor’s note reads. “The story’s intended focus was the NFL and its failure to extend those rules to the entire leagues.”

Calif. Voters Report Ballot Mix-Ups, Are Concerned about Election Integrity

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) Some of the California voters questioned the electoral process after receiving the wrong ballot leading up to the Primary Election that happened on March 5, 2024.

One of these voters, a lifelong registered Republican, said that he received a no-party preference ballot in the mail, according to the Epoch Times. He also noticed that there was an issue because he wanted to vote for Donald Trump and didn’t find his name on the ballot.

“I got my ballot in the mail, and I was going to vote early, but when I looked to where it said ‘president of the United States,’ it didn’t have anybody there,” Saul, a 48-year-old wine bottle manufacturer from Madera, said.

Eventually, after pointing out the problem, the Madera County Government Center officials re-registered him as a Republican and gave him the correct ballot.

Saul expressed his concerns for residents in rural areas without easy access to the government center by wondering how widespread the issue was.

“And if that’s happening here, it might be happening across the whole country. And if that could get mixed up so easily, what about two ballots going to the same person?” he said.

It was revealed later on by a Madera County poll worker that Saul’s case was not the only such error of the day.

“There have been multiple people who experienced this. We don’t know how or why their party affiliation was changed,” the poll worker said.

Several voters had experienced similar issues but said that it was likely because they did not choose a party when renewing their driver’s licenses or registering to vote, according to the county recorder’s office.

In addition to that, every registered voter in Mendocino County — a rural region of the state about two hours north of San Francisco — received a Republican ballot that also contained the wrong district information, no matter how they had registered to vote.

The news source reported that all voters subsequently received the correct ballot along with a bright-yellow notice that instructed them to destroy the prior ballot and informed them that voting twice is a crime.
