(Headline USA) California Gov. Gavin Newsom tried and failed to defend pictures in which he was seen maskless at last weekend’s 49ers-Rams NFL game, claiming he was “very judicious” about wearing it for most of the event.
Newsom, a Democrat, took his mask off in violation of Los Angeles’s mask mandate to take a picture with former NBA star Magic Johnson in one of the SoFi Stadium’s suites:
@GavinNewsom did you enjoy #SFvsLAR tonight at @SoFiStadium? Love your gorgeous maskless face! Unmask my children now please. My toddler, 5yr old, and 7 yr old are going to school in LA County tomorrow and will be sent home if they unmask like this, even outside. pic.twitter.com/ChUgV3yZTK

Newsom claimed that this was the only time he took his mask off.
“I was very judicious yesterday. Very judicious,” he said. “And you’ll see in the photo that I did take, where Magic was kind enough, generous enough to ask me for a photograph, and in my left hand’s the mask and I took a photo.
“The rest of the time, I wore it as we all should,” he bleated. “Not when I had a glass of water or a thing. And I encourage everybody else to do so. And that’s it.”
However, footage from the game proves Newsom refused to wear his mask throughout the game:
Gavin Newsom claimed he took his mask off for just a second at 49ers-Rams. The Bud Light fan cam proves otherwise. This dude is a complete and total liar: pic.twitter.com/sdRMt3MD2I

LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and San Francisco Mayor London Breed were also spotted in the suite without masks. Neither they nor Newsom were eating or drinking at the time the photos were taken.
