(Headline USA) Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., and Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., introduced resolutions this week to expunge former President Donald Trump’s two impeachments.
The measure, introduced by Greene, blasts Democrats’ impeachment efforts against Trump as a “politically motivated sham.” If passed, it would expunge Democrats’ 2019 impeachment of Trump over his phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Stefanik’s resolution would expunge Democrats’ 2021 impeachment of Trump, which was related to his alleged role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Neither impeachment effort survived the Senate.
“The American people know Democrats weaponized the power of impeachment against President Donald Trump to advance their own extreme political agenda,” Stefanik said in a statement on Thursday.
Democrats “ignored the Constitution and failed to follow the legislative process” in order to impeach Trump, Stefanik argued.
“President Donald Trump was rightfully acquitted, and it is past time to expunge Democrats’ sham smear against not only President Trump’s name, but against millions of patriots across the country,” she added.
Greene pointed out the hypocrisy of the Democrats who went after Trump in 2019 at the same time the federal government was sitting on evidence of alleged malfeasance on the part of Hunter Biden and President Joe Biden.
“The Democrats, led by Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff, weaponized a perfect phone call with Ukraine to interfere with the 2020 election. Meanwhile, the FBI had credible evidence of Joe and Hunter Biden’s corrupt dealings, confirming their involvement in a foreign bribery pay-to-play scheme and receipt of over $5 million each,” Greene said in a statement.
The measures were introduced in the House shortly after articles of impeachment were brought against Joe Biden for his dereliction of duty in regards to the southern border crisis. The impeachment resolution was brought by Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo.
“President Biden’s negligence of duty has resulted in the surrender of operational control of the border to the complete and total control of foreign criminal cartels putting the lives of American citizens in jeopardy,” Boebert said on the House floor Tuesday.
