(Ezekiel Loseke, Headline USA) United States Senatorial candidate John Fetterman’s, D-Pa, hometown newspaper, the Pittsburg Post-Gazette, endorsed his opponent, Mehmet Oz, R-Pa., for the 2022 election.
The Post-Gazette cited concerns about Fetterman’s ability to lead. The paper acknowledged that Fetterman has held the office of lieutenant governor and been a mayor of a 2,000-person town. Still, the paper argued that Fetterman “has lived off his family’s money for much of his life.” While this is desirable in some ways, it also means that, he “has little experience in holding real jobs or facing the problems of working people.”
Fetterman’s stroke, per the Post-Gazette, is not an issue, but the way he handled it is concerning. His secrecy around his health “suggests an impulse to conceal and a mistrust of the people.”
Fetterman has also lied on the campaign trail. He was confronted with his own words opposing fracking in Tuesday’s debate with Oz. Fetterman, despite the apparent and immediate evidence, insisted he had always supported fracking.
Dr. Oz, per the Post-Gazette, has many desirable characteristics. While Oz is rich and famous, he is so because of his own merit. Unlike Fetterman, Oz does not come from money, but rather from a self-made immigrant doctor.
Oz, though wealthy, “spent a lot of time in poor urban neighborhoods.” The paper argued he spent this time “talking to people and, most important, listening and learning.”
The paper also embraced the tone and spirit of Oz’s campaign. It wrote, “We’re encouraged that Mr. Oz is portraying himself as a unifier who will work with Democrats to get things done for Pennsylvania.” It continued to say, “he has the potential to become an influential, thoughtful and independent senator.”
The paper admitted that Oz can be a bit too polished and “ he can sound like a smooth-talking salesman.” However, it also wrote “that may be what it takes to get deals done in Washington.”
Overall, the paper concluded that, “In a race on which much depends and little is certain, Mehmet Oz has shown he is better equipped to lead and deliver for Pennsylvania.”
Breitbart News reported the endorsement came after Oz’s victory in the recent debate between the two candidates.
