Fetterman Touted Importance of Election Debates But Refuses to Debate Oz

(Headline USA) Democrat Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman said during his primary campaign that televised debates are something voters deserve before an election. But now he’s refusing to debate Republican candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz, citing his health.

The Oz campaign has made several attempts to set up a debate against Fetterman, but Fetterman’s team has denied every single one.

“I’m eager to put my record and my values up against Dr. Oz’s any day of the week,” Fetterman said in a statement on Tuesday. “As I recover from this stroke and improve my auditory processing and speech, I look forward to continuing to meet with the people of Pennsylvania.”

But in February, Fetterman insisted that voters “deserve no fewer than three network televised debates.”

Fetterman whined that part of the reason he’s changed his mind about debating on a stage is because Oz “made it abundantly clear that [he thinks] it is funny to mock a stroke survivor,” referring to a tongue-in-cheek press release from Oz’s team offering several “concessions” to Fetterman. Some of the concessions included promising not to hurt Fetterman’s feelings and allowing him to ask for a “bathroom break.”

More likely, critics charge that Fetterman is trying to dodge public accountability for his radical leftist positions.

“John Fetterman’s campaign is insulting the intelligence of Pennsylvania voters,” Oz’s team said in a statement. “We heard John Fetterman won’t debate Oz in the ‘first week of September.’ OK, so when will he debate? He won’t ever say – not even in his latest whiny statement.”
