Congressman Rebukes Leftist DOJ Lawyer for Intrusion Into Ariz. Election Audit

Congressman Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., admonished Acting Assistant Attorney General Pamela Karlan in respect to Justice Department efforts to disenfranchise Arizona voters by preventing the 2020 election audit in Maricopa County.

Karlan, the radical leftist head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, had warned in a letter to state Senate President Karen Fann that the state’s audit of the 2020 election ballot count could break a federal law regarding voter privacy, while also amounting to voter intimidation.

The Republican-controlled state Senate commissioned the audit.

“Past experience with similar investigative efforts around the country has raised concerns that they can be directed at minority voters, which potentially can implicate the anti-intimidation prohibitions of the Voting Rights Act,” Karlan wrote. “Such investigative efforts can have a significant intimidating effect on qualified voters that can deter them from seeking to vote in the future.”

The Assistant AG has spent most of her career rubbing elbows with political elites.

She is a former Stanford University law professor, member of Facebook’s suspicious oversight board, and a witness in the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, wherein she made several dubious or irrelevant claims.

Karlan’s time on the Facebook board lasted from May of 2020 until her appointment to her current position by President Joe Biden.

In her time on the board, Karlan helped make the a final decision about what content the platform would allow or disallow, especially surrounding the coronavirus or the 2020 election.

Legal scholars have harshly criticized Karlan, arguing that her concerns are largely unfounded and likely motivated by personal opinions.

According to Hans von Spakovsky, a former DOJ lawyer and senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation, Karlan is “abusing her power in law enforcement for political reasons.”

“She didn’t have to be nominated or confirmed [by the Senate],” von Spakovsky added. “She’s a Democratic activist. That’s why she’s in the Civil Rights Division, because it has so much authority over elections.”

In response to Karlan’s radical actions to discredit the audit, Gosar claimed she is “blatantly attempting to intimidate, interfere and obstruct those involved in the important audit process taking place in Maricopa County.”

“It is critical that the integrity of the election process not be compromised by radicals inside Mr. Biden’s Justice Department,” Gosar added.

Gosar, who was joined in his statement by fellow Congress members Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., Marjorie Greene, R-Ga., and Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., accused Karlan of protecting herself and her radical leftist allies rather than securing elections.

He also attacked the DOJ as a whole, claiming that it “should join the audit and seek full election transparency and proper verification that the process was ‘flawless’ and ‘perfect’ as has been stated, though without evidence. If the Democrats have nothing to hide, then they should stop meddling with  the audit and allow it to be completed. Honest people don’t obstruct audits.”
