(Alex Tien, Headline USA) Earlier this week, excitement grew around the potential return to Twitter for former President Donald Trump, who was given a permanent ban from the platform after the Jan. 6 protests.
Elon Musk became Twitter’s newest board member, which may have surprised some given his pattern of going against the grain on the website. Not surprisingly, many Twitter employees were immediately triggered by Musk’s addition to the board.
One employee stated that “we’re not stripping away ‘free speech’, we’re protecting users from bullies, bigots & spam. I refuse to work with or for @elonmusk. I’m resigning.” Another data scientist at the site said she was “terrified” of working with Musk.
Because of Musk’s involvement with the site, speculation began that the former president’s reinstatement may be impending. However, Twitter has come out and emphatically shut down any ideas about allowing Trump back onto the site.
On Tuesday, Twitter said it still does not have plans to reinstate Trump’s account.
“Our policy decisions are not determined by the Board or shareholders, and we have no plans to reverse any policy decisions,” Twitter told the Daily Mail.
“As always our Board plays an important advisory and feedback role across the entirety of our service. Our day to day operations and decisions are made by Twitter management and employees,” the company stated.
All this comes amidst growing reports of Trump’s own social media network, called Truth Social, experiencing rapid growth and development. Former California representative and now Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes told Just the News that the site is “already getting massive engagement by the users” on Truth Social so far.
Nunes also commented that even with Musk’s addition to the board of Twitter, he doesn’t foresee any real positive changes coming. The app is currently available on the Apple Store and is reported to be in development for Google Play.
