Trump: Slow Ukraine Response Probably Due to Biden Sleeping

'People were saying, "Why didn’t this take place over the past four years during my administration?" And it didn’t for a very good reason. I’ll explain that to you someday...'

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Former President Donald Trump took a shot at President ‘Sleepy’ Joe Biden and his administration, claiming that their slow response time to Russia’s Ukraine invasion was because Biden was napping, Summit News reported.

While speaking with Fox News’s Laura Ingraham, Trump suggested that a crisis like this would not have occurred on his watch.

“This is something that should have never happened,” he said. “This would not have happened during my administration.”

When asked about Biden’s lack of response, Trump mused, “I don’t think he’s monitoring. I think he is probably sleeping right now.”

He also suggested that he was able to hold off Russian President Vladimir Putin while he was president.

“In fact, some people were saying, why didn’t this take place over the past four years during my administration?” he said. “And it didn’t for a very good reason. I’ll explain that to you someday.”

The former president also slammed Biden for allowing the crisis to escalate over the course of months.

“But it wouldn’t have taken place, and it wouldn’t have taken place right now,” he continued. “It’s a very sad thing for the world, the country, and it is certainly sad for a lot of people that are going to be needlessly killed.”

On Putin, Trump claimed to have had a good working relationship with him, adding that this could have helped Europe avoid the crisis it now finds itself in.

“I do know him, and I do know him very well,” Trump said. “We’ve had many, many times together. I got along with him fantastically despite the fact that I shut down Nord Stream 2,” a gas pipeline running from Russia to Germany that helped blunt the NATO ally’s response to the Ukraine standoff.

Biden initially greenlighted the pipeline and removed the US sanctions, but following Putin’s military aggression, he was scrambling to re-impose them.

Trump concluded his remarks by taking a shot at former German Prime Minister Angela Merkel for promiting Germany’s dependence on Russian energy.

“Nobody would have heard of Nord Stream 2 if it weren’t for me,” he said. “I’m the one that shut it down, and I’m the one that told Angela [Merkel] you’re doing a terrible thing by doing this.”
