‘I’m Excited’: Dem Governor Embraces Trump’s Appointment of RFK Jr.

(Julianna Frieman, Headline USA) Democrat Colorado Gov. Jared Polis embraced Republican President-elect Donald Trump’s appointment of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services in a social media post Thursday afternoon.

Polis said he is “excited” about Kennedy’s potential to shake up HHS and the Food and Drug Administration, citing the former Independent presidential candidate’s efforts against COVID-19 pandemic restrictions as reason for his support.

“I’m excited by the news that the President-Elect will appoint @RobertKennedyJr to @HHSGov,” Polis wrote on X. “He helped us defeat vaccine mandates in Colorado in 2019 and will help make America healthy again by shaking up HHS and FDA.”

Polis said he hopes Kennedy “leans into personal choice” on vaccines instead of government bans, which he called as “terrible” as mandates.

The Colorado governor expressed optimism about Kennedy’s ability to take on Big Pharma to improve the overall health of American citizens.

Polis cautioned readers not to mock or disagree with Kennedy before reading three quotes from the HHS appointee.

He wrote a resounding “YES!” beside Kennedy quotes on addressing issues with drug costs, child nutrition, and pesticides.

“He will face strong special interest opposition on these, but I look forward to partnering with him to truly make America healthy again and I hope that we can finally make progress on these important issues,” the Democrat governor said.

Contrasting Polis’s praise was Mike Pence, Trump’s former vice president, in a statement Friday from his nonprofit Advancing American Freedoms.

Pence urged Senate Republicans to tank Kennedy’s nomination due to the issue of abortion.

“I believe the nomination of RFK Jr. to serve as Secretary of HHS is an abrupt departure from the pro-life record of our administration and should be deeply concerning to millions of Pro-Life Americans who have supported the Republican Party and our nominees for decades,” Pence wrote.

Sen. Grassley Opens Investigation into FEMA’s Anti-Trump Bias

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, has opened an investigation into the Federal Emergency Management Agency after one of its workers said she was told by her bosses to avoid Trump supporters in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

The former FEMA worker, Marn’i Washington, was initially blamed for directing workers helping hurricane survivors not to go to homes with Trump yard signs. But on Monday, Washington said she had followed a widespread FEMA policy of avoiding “politically hostile” homes.

“FEMA preaches avoidance first, and then de-escalation. This is not isolated. This is a colossal event of avoidance,” she said. “Not just in the state of Florida. You will find avoidance in the Carolinas.”

Grassley now seeks answers about Washington’s allegations, which were supported by an anonymous FEMA official who talked to the New York Post.

“To know if this claim is substantively true, especially considering FEMA’s terminating her for inappropriate conduct, FEMA must produce responsive records to Congress,” Grassley said Friday in a letter to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell.

“Politicization of who receives FEMA assistance is unacceptable, especially as the people affected by these disasters attempt to put their lives back together. The American people deserve a more robust and detailed explanation of this problem and FEMA’s plans to fix it,” he said.

Grassley told Criswell to provide his office all FEMA records mentioning “Trump,” “Republican,” “conservative,” “politics,” “MAGA,” and germane variations thereof in the last five years. He also demanded records related to FEMA’s decision-making process in choosing homes and properties to avoid.

Grassley seeks those and other records by Nov. 28.

Trump Hosts Argentine President Milei in 1st Post-Election Meetup of World Leaders

(Headline USA) President-elect Donald Trump met Thursday at his Mar-a-Lago club with Argentine President Javier Milei, the first foreign leader to meet with him since the GOP leader’s victory in last week’s election.

The meeting was confirmed by a person who insisted on anonymity to discuss an event that hadn’t yet been announced publicly.

The person said the meeting went well and said Milei also met with investors.

A short time later, Milei, a self-described “anarcho-capitalist” and frequent recipient of Trump praise, addressed the America First Policy Institute gala at Mar-a-Lago.

He spoke briefly in English, then gave a longer speech in Spanish, pausing to allow an interpreter to translate, in which he slammed left-wing ideologies and saluted Elon Musk, the owner of X, saying his social media site is helping to “save humanity.”

Milei criticized a political ruling class that he said was responsible for a system that used unfair tax systems to force “the redistribution of wealth at gunpoint.”

The president of Argentina also congratulated Trump on his “resounding victory” in the election, saying, “Today the winds of freedom are blowing much stronger” and calling the victory “proof positive that the forces of heaven are on our side.”

Trump also spoke to the gala crowd, congratulating Milei “for the job you’ve done for Argentina” and saying it was an “honor” to have Argentina’s president at his club.

“The job you’ve done is incredible. Make Argentina Great Again, you know, MAGA. He’s a MAGA person,” Trump said to applause. “And you know, he’s doing that.”

Shortly after Milei’s election in November 2023, Trump posted on social media, “You will turn your country around and truly Make Argentina Great Again!”

Milei first met Trump in February at the Conservative Political Action Conference in the Washington area.

He has openly declared his admiration for Trump and when he saw him, he rushed to him screaming “president!” and gave him a close hug before they posed for pictures.

The Argentine president is known for his eccentric personality and first made a name for himself by shouting against Argentina’s “political caste” on television.

AOC Explains to Joy Reid Why Trump Campaign’s ‘They/Them’ Ad Worked

(Julianna Frieman, Headline USA) Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., explained to MSNBC host Joy Reid why Republican President-election Donald Trump’s “they/them” campaign ad contributed to his victory.

As the 2024 race for the White House heated up in September, the Trump campaign ran an ad during the Alabama v. Georgia college football game saying, “Kamala is for they/them. President Trump is for you.”

In hindsight, various political commentators discussed Trump’s “they/them” ad as one of the most effective pieces of marketing content from the campaign.

On Thursday’s episode of The Reid Out, the host said Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign did not touch gender ideology issues.

Ocasio-Cortez agreed and interpreted the success of Trump’s ad by countering the idea that anti-transgender outrage was the reason for its effectiveness.

“What I think people are paying too much attention to is the first part of that ad,” Ocasio-Cortez told Reid, referencing the clip of Harris supporting transgender surgeries for prisoners.

Ocasio-Cortez urged Democrats to focus on the second half of the ad, which Trump declares his support for “you.”

“Everyone is focusing on that. They’re not focusing on the second half of that ad, where he said, ‘Donald Trump is for you,'” the congresswoman said.

As the gears in Ocasio-Cortez’s head turned, she offered some advice to Democrats through her conversation with Reid, telling members of her party to speak to voters in a more personal manner.

“Democrats, in their messaging, they speak in this… in terms and in concepts and not in the second person. ‘I care about you,'” she said. “And political races are not about one candidate versus another candidate. Two often it gets pigeon-hold like that. It is a race to convince a person about who care about you more.”

With 1.7M Uncounted Ballots, Calif. Election Head Takes ‘Pride’ in Not Being ‘Rushed’

(California still has four uncalled Congressional races as 1.7 million ballots remain to be counted over one week after Election Day, less than 10% of which are mail-in ballots that arrived after the election.

Republican Rep. John Duarte’s lead has grown to nearly 4,000 votes in the 13th District, while Republican Congressman David Valadao officially held off Democrat Rudy Salas in the nearby 22nd District.

Republican Rep. Ken Calvert also officially defended his seat against Democrat Will Rollins, while Republican Rep. Michelle Steel’s almost 4,000 vote lead against Democrat Derek Tran two days ago is now down to 349 votes with 93% of the votes counted.

In the uncalled 9th and 21st Districts, incumbent Democrats have held their narrow majorities in what were not expected to be top battleground races.

With so few of the uncounted ballots having arrived after Election Day, it’s unclear why California takes so long to count the ballots received by the end of Election Day; Florida, by contrast, reports most ballots within a few hours of polls closing.

“We take pride in the fact we are not rushed,” said California Secretary of State Shirley Weber at a virtual press conference. “We make sure every person who is eligible to vote gets a chance to vote.”

Hacker Gets 5 Yrs. for Stealing, Laundering Roughly $1B in Bitcoin

(Headline USA) A computer expert who stole bitcoin worth billions of dollars at current prices—and then spent years laundering some of the hacked cryptocurrency with help from his wife—was sentenced on Thursday to five years in prison.

Ilya Lichtenstein masterminded one of the largest-ever thefts from a virtual currency exchange before he and his wife, Heather Rhiannon Morgan, carried out an elaborate scheme to liquidate the stolen funds, according to federal prosecutors.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar—Kotelly told Lichtenstein that his theft was “meticulously planned” and not an impulsive act.

“It’s important to send a message that you can’t commit these crimes with impunity, that there are consequences to them,” she said.

Lichtenstein, who gets credit for the two years and nine months that he has spent in jail since his February 2022 arrest, expressed remorse for “wasting my talents on crime instead of a positive contribution to society.”

He said he hopes that he can apply his expertise to fight cybercrime when he gets out of prison.

“I want to take full responsibility for my actions and make amends any way I can,” he said.

The judge is scheduled to sentence Morgan on Monday.

Lichtenstein pleaded with the judge to spare his wife from prison, blaming himself for her involvement.

In August 2016, Lichtenstein hacked into a virtual currency exchange, Hong Kong-based Bitfinex, and stole approximately 120,000 bitcoin.

It was worth approximately $71 million at the time of the hack and would be valued at more than $7.6 billion at current market prices, according to prosecutors.

Several months later, Lichtenstein began moving the stolen bitcoin in a string of complex transactions designed to conceal its path across a series of accounts and platforms.

He enlisted his wife’s help in cleaning the stolen funds.

Lichtenstein, an entrepreneur and cryptocurrency investor, is a U.S. citizen who was born in Russia and grew up in a Chicago suburb.

Morgan, a business owner and writer, adopted the alter ego “Razzlekhan” for performing rap songs and recording videos for her music.

Lichtenstein and Morgan were living in New York City when they were arrested in February 2022.

They had been living in San Francisco around the time of the hack.

Prosecutors recommended a five-year prison sentence for Lichtenstein, who pleaded guilty in August 2023 to one count of money laundering conspiracy.

They recommended an 18-month prison sentence for Morgan, who pleaded guilty to the same charge.

“Neither the hack nor the laundering scheme was an impulsive decision. The defendant (Lichtenstein) spent months attempting to gain access to Bitfinex’s infrastructure and get the accesses and permissions he needed in order to orchestrate his hack,” prosecutors wrote.

Lichtenstein told his wife about the hack over three years later, but he initially solicited her help in laundering the proceeds “without explaining exactly what he was doing,” according to prosecutors.

Morgan “was certainly a willing participant and bears full responsibility for her actions, but she was a lower-level participant,” prosecutors wrote.

During family trips to Kazakhstan and Ukraine, Lichtenstein met with couriers who delivered him money that he smuggled back into the U.S.

“Over half a decade, the defendant engaged in what IRS agents described as the most complicated money laundering techniques they had seen to date,” prosecutors wrote.

Bitcoin is the largest and oldest cryptocurrency, which is digital money that typically isn’t backed by any government or banking institution.

Transactions get recorded with technology called a blockchain.

The couple successfully laundered about 21 percent of the funds stolen from Bitfinex.

The laundered money was worth at least $14 million at 2016 prices.

Its value would have exceeded $1 billion at the time of their 2022 arrest.

Authorities seized the remaining funds, collectively valued at over $6 billion at current prices.

“He became one of the greatest money launderers that the government has encountered in the cryptocurrency space,” prosecutors wrote.

An attorney for Bitfinex said the hack “devastated” its finances and its reputation with its customers, with the stolen funds accounting for approximately 36% of the company’s assets at the time of theft.

“Bitfinex had to take unprecedented and immediate action to ensure that any losses from the Hack would ultimately be borne by Bitfinex and its shareholders alone, not its customers,” the lawyer, Barry Berke, wrote in a letter to the judge.

A prosecutor said Lichtenstein immediately began cooperating with federal authorities after his arrest, helping them with other cybercrime investigations.

Over 96% of the stolen funds have been recovered, with help from Lichtenstein, according to defense attorney Samson Enzer.

The “vast bulk” of the stolen money was never spent, the lawyer said.

“This is not an evil person,” Enzer said. “This is a good person who made some very bad mistakes.”

‘I Can’t Believe I’m Going To Say This’: Megyn Kelly Changes Tune On Trump Appointee

(Julianna Frieman, Headline USA)  SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly changed her tune on former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., during Thursday’s episode of her radio show with Ruthless podcast co-hosts.

Ruthless co-host Comfortably Smug pointed out that President-elect Donald Trump’s recent appointment of Gaetz as attorney general was meant to signify “there’s a new sheriff in town” to counter the Biden administration’s politicized U.S. Department of Justice.

Kelly, who previously criticized Gaetz over the ousting of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, admitted she warmed up to Trump’s pick.

“I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I agree with you, Smug,” the radio host said. “I was never really a Matt Gaetz fan, I was never really a huge Matt Gaetz person at all.”

She added beside McCarthy’s ousting, she hadn’t really thought about Gaetz.

Kelly defended Gaetz by saying the sex-trafficking allegations against him have not been proven nor have they resulted in any charges.

“If you are Donald Trump and your chosen attorney general had turned you over to Robert Muller who then ruined your first term as president with a bunch of bulls**t, then you leave office and then the next guy’s attorney general is behind not one, but two criminal prosecutions of you — and his DOJ is cooperating with not one, but two state prosecutions of you in a bridge that’s never been crossed in our 250-year history as a nation — then I too might prize loyalty to me above all other qualities and go with a guy like Matt Gaetz,” Kelly said. “Who can blame Trump for trying to pick the most loyal soldier he can find for this position?”

Kelly later praised Trump for selecting Gov. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., as secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The SiriusXM star admitted Noem was not her favorite following a scandal revealing the South Dakota governor put down her dog but said she would back Trump’s judgement.

“If she gets confirmed to this very important position, we are going to have to support her—and I will,” Kelly promised.

Kelly was overjoyed that the “freaks” of the Biden administration would be replaced with candidates more than a step above their qualifications.

“The more I thought about it, the more I kept thinking along the lines of, you know, Tulsi for Liz and what a good trade this was,” she asked to the laughter of her Ruthless guests. “Who in their right mind wouldn’t take Kristi Noem over Rachel Levine?”

Kelly celebrated that “fake women” like Levine would be replaced by real women like Noem.

“Remember Sam Brinton, the luggage thief who was stealing the women’s clothes?” Kelly added. “But even before that came out, he was parading around our government with his bald head and his big, red lips, and his weird clothing, and his—they hired him to work on nuclear regulatory stuff!”

Rumors swirled on social media that Kelly, who appeared with Trump at a rally in the final days of his campaign, could be a contender for the role of Trump’s press secretary.

However, many believe loyal Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt is most likely to lock down the position.

Elon Musk Secretly Spoke w/ Iran after It Disavowed Trump Assassination Plot

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) The Justice Department has made dubious claims that Iran is actively trying to assassinate Donald Trump. Top Trump supporter Elon Musk apparently isn’t buying the DOJ propaganda, and the incoming administration is reportedly open to peace talks.

Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that Iran offered written assurances to the Biden administration last month that it wouldn’t seek to assassinate Donald Trump.

“The Iranian message, delivered on Oct. 14 and not previously reported, came in response to a private written American warning sent to Tehran in September. U.S. officials said it reflected the administration’s public message that it considered the threats against Trump a top-tier national security issue and that any attempt on his life would be treated as an act of war,” the Journal reported.

The Journal’s report comes on the heels of the Justice Department announcing charges against an alleged Iranian agent who was involved in an assassination plot against Trump. As Headline USA has explained, the DOJ has provided little actual evidence for such a plot.

It appears as if Musk doesn’t believe the DOJ, either.

According to the New York Times, Elon Musk spoke to Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations on Monday in New York.

“The Iranians said the meeting between Mr. Musk and Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani lasted more than an hour and was held at a secret location. The Iranians, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss policy publicly, described the meeting as ‘positive’ and ‘good news,’” the Times said.

Trump’s communications director declined to comment on the reported meeting.

Trump’s first administration employed a “maximum pressure campaign” against Iran, exiting the nuclear deal struck under Obama, imposing sanctions, and assassinating Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

But despite the numerous Iran-hawks Trump has appointed to his administration so far, the Iranians are now hopeful they can strike a deal with the incoming President.

“Overall, everything is possible with Trump,” Ali Vaez, the Iran director for the International Crisis Group, told the Times. “He appears to be interested in a deal with Iran.”

‘Turned Out to Be Garbage‘: Scott Jennings Clocks CNN Panelists On COVID after Attacking Trump Appointee

(Julianna Frieman, Headline USA) CNN’s Scott Jennings shut down CNN panelists up in arms over President-elect Donald Trump’s appointment of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as secretary of Health and Human Services Thursday on NewsNight.

As CNN’s chyron labeled Kennedy a “vaccine skeptic,” former Republican Liet. Gov. Geoff Duncan expressed disapproval of Trump’s decision, saying Kennedy would be acceptable in an advisory role.

“There’s no managerial experience in his resume. There’s nothing that says he is qualified to do this job,” Duncan said, prompting Jennings to challenge the credentials of previous HHS secretaries.

Duncan and Jennings bickered over Kennedy’s ability to do the job.

Jennings went down the list and said sitting Secretary of HHS Xavier Becerra was “just a lawyer and a politician” before taking his cabinet position.

The CNN commentator further colored his argument by identifying President Barack Obama’s HHS Secretary, Sylvia Burwell, as a “Walmart lobbyist.”

“RFK Jr. is a nut,” Duncan said.

Jennings called out Duncan for just wanting to insult Trump’s pick, but acknowledged that he has the right to do so.

“I don’t know whether he could be confirmed or not. The vaccine stuff at the table is obviously going to be the flash point of this hearing,” Jennings said.

Jennings brought up American distrust in the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, which he attributed to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

“Public trust in the health regime of this country is as low as it’s ever been,” Jennings told CNN panelists.

Duncan shot back, “But why?”

“It’s because of COVID!” Jennings exploded. “It’s because of school closures. It’s because of mask mandates.”

CNN panelists chattered in response before Jennings finished off by saying, “Well, let me just finish. Because this country was drug through a bunch of condescending and heavy-handed mandates that all turned out to be garbage.”

Biden DOJ’s Anti-White Racism Exposed in Ex-Prosecutor’s Civil Rights Lawsuit

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) A former Justice Department lawyer has sued the DOJ for racial discrimination, alleging that she was passed over for promotions and removed from her leadership position because she’s a Caucasian female.

The lawsuit was filed last week in Illinois federal court by Mary Gorecki, a 57-year-old lawyer who worked for the DOJ’s Community Relations service from 2010 to 2023. Gorecki previously was the first female to be elected as State’s Attorney for Kane County, Illinois. She was also the first white female regional director in CRS history.

Gorecki said her troubles started in 2022, when the Senate confirmed Paul Monteiro to lead the CRS. Since then, Monteiro has removed white women from leadership positions, replacing them with African Americans and other people of color, she said.

“Mr. Monteiro filled leadership positions, particularly those of Regional Directors, with only African Americans … By December 2022, seven months after Mr. Monteiro returned to CRS, no white woman served in a leadership capacity at CRS,” she said, adding, “Ms. Gorecki’s Regional Director position was given to three African Americans.”

Gorecki said she was the highest performing Regional Director in CRS. Despite that, Monteiro forced her out of her position in August 2022—doing so by placing her in a newly created position of “Disability and Environmental Justice subject matter expert.”

Gorecki said the newly created position was, in fact, a demotion designed to remove her from her regional directorship. She further explained that she was not suited for the new position since she had little experience with disabilities or environmental justice.

“Mr. Monteiro stripped Ms. Gorecki of her supervisory duties, removed all support for Ms. Gorecki, eliminated her from leadership meetings … and removed her as the lead for working groups and committees,” her lawsuit said.

“The SME Program Manger position was a fake position designed to remove Ms. Gorecki as Regional Director, to harass her, and to conceal the true illegal, discriminatory motives behind Ms. Gorecki’s illegal reassignment from Regional Director to program manager,” the lawsuit later added.

Monteiro replaced Gorecki with an African American named Synthia Taylor, despite Taylor not even having a law degree, according to the lawsuit.

Once Taylor took Gorecki’s job, she allegedly became tyrannical—ordering Gorecki to do administrative tasks and other menial chores.

“Ms. Taylor ordered Ms. Gorecki to perform records management work such as cleaning and shredding, and data entry … None of these tasks had anything to do with the artificially created position of EJ and Disability program manager. They were demeaning, demoralizing and well below Ms. Gorecki’s GS-15 pay grade,” her lawsuit said.

Gorecki apparently has a history with Monteiro, who resigned as CRS director in April 2023. Under the Obama administration, for example, he allegedly tried to remove her from regional directorship for another fake position, that one the CRS’s “Muslim and Sikh subject matter expert”—even though she was neither Muslim nor Sikh.

At that time, the Office of Special Counsel intervened and restored her to her position in September 2016. But Gorecki said she had to file a lawsuit in court last week because all of her administrative remedies within the DOJ had been exhausted. She further claimed that she suffered retaliation for filing an internal complaint about the discrimination.

Gorecki cites numerous other instances of discrimination in her 30-page complaint.

The former prosecutor is alleging that the DOJ committed numerous Civil Rights Act violations, including discrimination based on race, age and gender.

She seeks reinstatement to her position as CRS regional director, as well as compensation and damages.

The DOJ has yet to respond to her lawsuit, which was first reported by CourtWatch.news.
