DOJ Probing Chicago Mayor for Anti-White Hiring Practices

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division has opened an investigation into Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson after he admitted to enforcing anti-white hiring practices in the city government. 

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon, who oversees the division, notified Johnson of the active inquiry in a two-page letter on Monday. 

The probe follows Johnson’s public boast on Sunday about exclusively hiring black Americans for top posts within his administration.

Among the top officials Johnson identified as black are the heads of Business and Economic Neighborhood Development, the Department of Planning and the Department of Infrastructure, as well as his chief operations officer, budget director and senior advisor. 

Johnson justified his hiring practices, claiming they aimed at ensuring “that our people get a chance to grow their business.” 

Quoting these remarks in her letter, Dhillon wants to know whether the City of Chicago is “engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination…” 

“If these kind of hiring decisions are being made for top-level positions in your administration, then it begs the question whether such decisions are also being made for lower-level positions,” Dhillon wrote. 

She noted that the DOJ has not reached any conclusions and urged Johnson to cooperate. He has been asked to contact the DOJ to arrange a “mutually agreeable date and time” to discuss the scope of the investigation. 

Johnson downplayed the seriousness of the DOJ probe, countering: “I am calling on the Department of Justice to investigate the Trump administration and its discriminatory practices in their hiring.” 

The Chicago mayor claimed his “administration reflects the country,” while that of Trump reflects “the country club.”

Report: Rep. Cory Mills’ Former Colleagues Say He Secretly Converted to Islam

(José Niño, Headline USA) Five former associates insist Rep. Cory Mills, R-FL., converted to Islam in 2014, but his girlfriend calls it a lie.  

This saga began after a February 19 police response to Mills’ luxury penthouse, following a domestic disturbance involving Mills and his current girlfriend, Sarah Raviani. The incident, and the resulting police report, put the spotlight not only on the state of Mills’ relationships but also prompted media outlets like Blaze News to investigate his background more thoroughly.

Blaze News reported that five former associates of Mills confirmed he had converted to Islam when he married Iraq native Rana Al Saadi in 2014. The marriage was officiated by Mohammed Al-Hanooti, a controversial imam linked to the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and Hamas fundraising, per a report by The Daily Beast. 

The ceremony reportedly took place at the Dar Al-Hijrah mosque in Virginia. This mosque has built a reputation for its strict adherence to Islamic law, which generally requires both parties to be Muslim in order to wed.

Max Woodside, CEO at Paladin LLC and Mills’ former team leader at the private military contractor DynCorp, went on the record with Blaze News about a pivotal conversation. 

“He mentioned that he had a friend—I guess it’s his current wife that he’s divorcing, whatever the hell she is,” Woodside recalled. “I guess she was having problems with somebody over there. He said, ‘We need to go over there and take care of it.’ I said, ‘Brother, whatever we do is going to come back to you.’ … I said, ‘You’re always going to have problems because she’s a Muslim and you’re a Christian.’” 

According to Woodside, Mills replied, “No, I converted. I’m a Muslim.”

Woodside said the admission was memorable, noting, “They’re my sworn enemy.” He added, “As far as the Muslim stuff [goes], I only heard him say it one time. I never saw him convert. I never saw him put any head rags on. He just told me he converted to Islam. I said, ‘All right, whatever, dude. We’re done.’”

Mills has forcefully denied the allegations. Sarah Raviani, his girlfriend, told the Daily Mail that “the claims made in the Blaze article are entirely untrue.” 

She publicly confirmed their relationship for the first time and sought to clarify Mills’ faith: “He has not only attended church with my family and me, but we also pray together privately—just the two of us—where there would be no reason to pretend or perform for others. Additionally, we pray together publicly before meals. Any assertion that he is a Muslim is false, and I can personally attest to his Christian faith.”

Raviani also pointed to their shared Easter travels as further evidence of Mills’ Christian identity.

Despite these denials, four other former associates of Mills told Blaze News that he did convert to Islam at the time of his marriage, though most spoke anonymously out of fear of potentially facing reprisals.

Robert Spencer, founder of Jihad Watch, questioned whether Mills could have been married at Dar Al-Hijrah without converting, given the mosque’s reputation and the requirements of Islamic law. “Sharia stipulates that a Muslim woman may not marry a Christian or any other non-Muslim man. This is based on the Qur’an. … A Muslim man may marry a Christian woman … but a Muslim woman cannot marry a Christian man,” Spencer explained.

Mills, for his part, described the situation as complicated. 

He said his then-fiancée needed a marriage certificate to visit a dying relative in Iraq and that Al-Hanooti was the only imam willing to officiate. “I will do anything to protect my family. So if having her mother find someone who is willing to just sign something so she doesn’t get arrested when she goes to visit her dying uncle, who’s her last remaining male Al Saadi,” Mills said. “Yeah, you’re damn right, I have no problem whatsoever, because it didn’t change my faith, it didn’t change who I am, it didn’t change the church that I went to. So yeah, enjoy your hit piece.”

Blaze Media’s editor-in-chief, Matthew Peterson, said, “If Mills had simply admitted that, yes, he converted to Islam to marry a Muslim woman or help her visit her family or whatever, that would be one thing. Instead, he threatened Blaze Media with libel, defamation, malice, and slander before we published a word. I find that odd.”

Woodside, reflecting on Mills’ character, remarked, “He’s always going to say [whatever he needs] to get him whatever he wants, which makes him a good politician because that’s what they do.”

Michigan Congressman’s Impeachment Circus Falls Flat

(José Niño, Headline USA) When Rep. Shri Thanedar, D-Mich, rolled out his impeachment charges against President Donald Trump, he must’ve expected fireworks. Instead, he was met with mostly silence.

Thanedar’s sparsely attended “Impeachment Town Hall” was highlighted last week by Twitter user @mich_enjoyer, who mocked the event’s low turnout and lack of enthusiasm, comparing it unfavorably to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

Thanedar, an Indian-born Democrat representing Michigan’s 13th Congressional District, has built his political brand on advocating progressive causes. 

He first entered public office in the Michigan House of Representatives in 2020, winning his seat with over 93 percent of the vote. In 2022, he claimed the 13th congressional district seat with a commanding 71 percent, and he was re-elected in 2024 with nearly 69 percent of the vote.

His impeachment push has exposed deep rifts within the Democratic Party. Thanedar introduced seven articles of impeachment against Trump, accusing the president of obstruction of justice, abuse of power, and constitutional violations. 

Yet fellow Democrats saw the move as a distraction, especially as the party sought to focus public attention on Republican proposals to cut Medicaid and other social programs, per a report by Politico. 

Senior Democrats privately fumed, with one calling Thanedar’s effort “utterly selfish behavior” and another warning it would force vulnerable Democrats into politically perilous votes, Axios reported. 

Thanedar ultimately withdrew his privileged resolution after conversations with colleagues, pledging to expand the articles and seek broader support.

This episode comes as Thanedar faces a challenging primary against State Rep.Donavan McKinney, in his congressional district, where his record on immigration and foreign policy has drawn both praise and criticism. 

Thanedar is one of the most vocal advocates for legal immigration reform in Congress. He has introduced and co-sponsored bills to expand skilled migration, streamline H-1B visas, and provide pathways to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. 

On foreign policy, Thanedar has positioned himself as a strong supporter of Israel and Zionist causes. 

During the May 2021 conflict, as Hamas launched rockets into Israel, Thanedar co-sponsored a Michigan House resolution urging Congress to stop funding Israel’s military and calling for an end to what it termed the world’s longest military occupation. 

The resolution, citing groups such as B’Tselem and Human Rights Watch, deemed Israel an “apartheid state” and accused it of committing human rights abuses.

Now, Thanedar is distancing himself from those positions, telling Jewish Insider that supporting the resolution was a mistake made in the heat of the moment and emphasizing his current strong support for Israel.

While he previously expressed reservations about Israel, Thanedar has since shifted to unequivocal support, pledging to defend Israel, maintain its military and economic primacy in the Middle East, and fight anti-Semitism at home and abroad. 

He has also sponsored resolutions condemning anti-Israel protests and has sought to solidify support from pro-Israel groups, a move that has attracted significant campaign contributions and political backing.

It remains to be seen if Thanedar’s impeachment gambit turns out to be a political miscalculation as he faces challenges on his progressive left flank. 

With his political future on the line, Thanedar’s next act may need a bigger audience and a more compelling script.

Arkansas and Other States Rally Behind Israel with Record-Breaking Bond Purchases

(José Niño, Headline USA) The Arkansas state government has thrown its weight behind Israel, investing millions and reinforcing a growing trend among U.S. states.

Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, R-AR, announced a plan to invest up to $50 million in Israel Bonds in the middle of May. According to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, the Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System (APERS) trustees agreed to allocate between $25 million and $50 million of state funds into Israel Bonds. 

This marks one of the largest single investments by the state in these securities, which are debt instruments issued by the Israeli government to raise capital for its national development.

The investment is part of a broader policy, established in Arkansas in 2017, that allows and encourages state funds to be invested in Israel Bonds.

Israel Bonds are fixed-income securities backed by the full faith and credit of the State of Israel. They have been sold in the U.S. since 1951. The bonds are often purchased by institutional investors, including state and municipal pension funds, as well as individuals seeking both financial returns and a symbolic connection to Israel. 

Arkansas is not alone in this approach. In recent years, especially following the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks and the subsequent Israel-Hamas war, multiple U.S. states have dramatically increased their investments in Israel Bonds, often citing both financial prudence and political solidarity.

Florida’s Treasury has been particularly active, with Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis announcing an additional $120 million investment in October 2023, bringing the state’s total holdings to $200 million. Since 2017, Florida has purchased $310 million in Israel Bonds, generating over $6.4 million in interest for the state. 

Patronis stated, “Israel bonds are a prudent use of state funds and offer a consistently positive return on investment. As we’ve seen throughout history, Democracy and freedom are fragile, and Florida proudly stands with Israel, the only democratic nation in the Middle East.”

The New York State Common Retirement Fund has been a long-term investor in Israel Bonds, with a recent $20 million purchase in October 2023 raising its total holdings to $267.8 million. Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli emphasized both the financial and symbolic value: 

“In addition to providing a steady return for our pension fund’s members, Israel bonds help support one of our nation’s strongest allies. I am heartened that so many other public funds have stepped forward to purchase bonds and support Israel, the only democratic government in the region, during these tragic and challenging days.”

Ohio is another major player, with the state treasury holding $262.5 million in Israel Bonds as of early 2024. Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague described the practice as a “sound investment” for the Ohio Treasurer’s Office, with a record of competitive rates and reliable repayments.”  

Ohio has a long history with Israel Bonds, with every state treasurer since 1993 making such investments.

Texas has invested in Israel Bonds annually since 1994, and after a $20 million purchase in October 2023, the state’s total holdings neared $100 million. 

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar described the bonds as “a key component of our investment portfolio at the state’s treasury, providing a reliable return for the people of Texas.”

Arkansas’s investment in Israel Bonds is part of a larger, bipartisan trend among U.S. states to support Israel financially while seeking stable returns for public funds.

Trump’s ‘Golden Dome’ Missile Shield Expected To Cost $500 Billion

(Dave DeCamp, Antiwar.com) President Trump’s plan to develop a new massive missile defense system for the US, dubbed the “Golden Dome” or the “Iron Dome for America,” is expected to cost $500 billion over the next 20 years, CNN reported on Monday, citing an estimate from the Congressional Budget Office.

The project will be a boondoggle for US weapons makers, and, according to a report from Reuters, Elon Musk’s SpaceX has emerged as a frontrunner to develop key parts of the missile shield. The report said SpaceX has partnered with Palantir and Anduril on the project.

The CNN report said that representatives from SpaceX, Palantir, and Anduril have all pitched Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on their plans for the project, and a source told the media outlet that he “wants what they’re selling.”

Pentagon officials have submitted plans to Trump for several options for developing the missile shield, and the president is expected to announce his preferred plan soon.

“The Secretary of Defense and other Department leaders have engaged with the President to present options and look forward to announcing the path forward in the coming days,” said Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell.

The idea of the “Golden Dome” is to provide a missile shield for the entire territory of the United States that can intercept the most advanced missiles in the world. Trump’s executive order that directed the Pentagon to pursue the plan specified that it must include “space-based interceptors.”

The White House’s $1.01 trillion military budget request for 2026 includes $25 billion for the Golden Dome. Besides the massive cost, the project will likely kick off a new global arms race.

A Maintenance Worker Has Been Charged in Connection With The New Orleans Jail Break

(José Niño, Headline USA) Authorities have arrested a 33-year-old Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office maintenance worker in connection with the escape of 10 jail inmates, the Louisiana Attorney General’s office said Tuesday.

Sterling Williams admitted to law enforcement that one of the escapees “advised him to turn the water off in the cell” before the men slipped away through a hole behind a toilet, the Attorney General’s office said in a statement.

“Instead of reporting the inmate, Williams turned the water off as directed allowing the inmates to carry out their scheme to successfully escape,” it said.

Williams is charged with 10 counts of principle to simple escape and malfeasance in office.

Sheriff Susan Hutson has said she believes the jail break was an inside job and last week told reporters her agency had suspended three employees pending an investigation.

“It’s almost impossible, not completely, but almost impossible for anybody to get out of this facility without help,” she said of the Orleans Justice Center, a correctional facility where 1,400 people are being held.

The inmates escaped early Friday while the lone guard watching them went to get food.

At least one of the steel bars protecting plumbing fixtures “appeared to have been intentionally cut using a tool,” the sheriff’s office stated.

The inmates quickly shed their uniforms and changed into regular clothes.

The absence of the inmates, many charged with or convicted of violent offenses such as murder, was not reported for hours. Four have since been apprehended and six remain at large.

Since the escape, Hutson has pointed to long-standing deficiencies such as faulty locks and staffing shortages. But a growing number of state and local officials have said blame for the escape rests squarely on her for failing her responsibility to keep inmates locked up.

The New Orleans City Council is scheduled to discuss the jail break with the sheriff’s office and other authorities Tuesday.

President Signs Legislation Criminalizing ‘Revenge Porn’

(Morgan Sweeney, The Center Square) Members of Congress and others gathered in the White House Rose Garden Monday for President Donald Trump’s ceremonial signing of first-of-its-kind federal legislation to criminalize “revenge porn,” or the sharing of nonconsensual explicit images online.

First Lady Melania Trump actively advocated for the bill – which received near-unanimous support in Congress – as part of her Be Best initiative, a public awareness campaign focusing on the well-being, online safety and opioid abuse prevention for children. Trump largely credited her with the legislation’s passage.

“America’s blessed to have such a dedicated and compassionate first lady. I will tell you she is very dedicated,” Trump said. “Our first lady made stopping these abuses a top priority, and she was given tremendous support.”

The legislation requires the online platform where a nonconsensual image is posted – whether the image is real or created through the use of artificial intelligence – to take down the images within 48 hours. Almost all states have laws that make posting such material a crime, but they vary widely in definitions and penalties. The Take It Down Act empowers federal prosecutors to pursue criminal charges against anyone who publishes explicit, nonconsensual imagery online. Perpetrators can face up to three years in prison under the law, and online platforms can face civil penalties for not promptly taking images down. 

The president also acknowledged several present for the signing whose lives had been disrupted when they were the subject of “deepfakes.” One young man whose family attended the signing took his own life when he was targeted by an “internet extortion scam,” according to the president.

“We will not tolerate online sexual exploitation,” Trump said.

Denise Buchanan, part of the team at the Brave Movement, an advocacy group working for policies that help to end childhood sexual violence, was excited that the bill was becoming law and receiving national attention. 

“This is the first of many, I’m hoping, that will actually be a policy initiative to end online sexual abuse because, believe it or not, the online platform – people really don’t know the depths and breadths of the effect it has on children,” Buchanan told The Center Square.

“This is a significant first step at least creating awareness of what’s possible and then we can actually start working on the greater policies.”

Black Economist Cancelled after Tucker Carlson Appearance

(José Niño, Headline USA) The Manhattan Institute once celebrated Glenn Loury’s ideas, until he criticized Israel. 

Loury, one of the country’s most prominent black economists and public intellectuals, was fired from the Manhattan Institute after criticizing Israel’s conduct in Gaza. 

The move has ignited a fierce debate about the boundaries of acceptable discourse in think tanks and the consequences for those who cross them, especially when it comes to U.S. foreign policy and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Loury, a long-time fellow at the Manhattan Institute and a celebrated heterodox thinker on race relations, found himself at odds with the organization after he publicly objected to Israel’s war in Gaza. 

In a Substack post, Loury explained, “I think they disapproved of my opposition to the Gaza War, my criticisms of Israel’s prosecution of that war, and my praise of Ta-Nehisi Coates’s meditations on the West Bank settlements.” 

The Manhattan Institute’s leadership, he recounted, cited a lack of “shared priorities” as the reason for the abrupt end to their partnership.

The flashpoint came after Loury hosted a conversation with Israeli historian Omer Bartov, who himself was critical of Israel’s actions in Gaza. 

According to Loury, the Manhattan Institute manifested its appointment after the episode aired and subsequently warned him about his public stance.

“I could have heeded the warnings and pulled back, and perhaps the relationship would have remained intact,” Loury wrote. “But that wouldn’t have changed what I thought and felt about the war. I would have been censoring myself for the sake of a financially beneficial arrangement. That was not something I was willing to do.”

Loury’s ouster became public following his appearance on Tucker Carlson’s show, where he discussed the chilling effect such actions have on open debate. 

Carlson summarized the situation bluntly in an episode of his show: “For decades, conservative think tanks celebrated and supported black economist Glenn Loury. Then he expressed an unauthorized opinion on the Middle East and they dropped him in a second.”

Headline USA reached out to the Manhattan Institute for comment and did not receive a response.

Loury himself described the incident as emblematic of a broader climate of intolerance for dissenting views on U.S. foreign policy, especially regarding Israel. He believes the political establishment is threatened by independent thinkers who challenge mainstream narratives about foreign policy. 

A professor of economics at Brown University, Loury gained prominence in the 1980s as one of the first tenured African American economists at Harvard University. Over his career, he has been a vocal critic of affirmative action and identity politics while advocating for open debate on complex social issues.

The Manhattan Institute didn’t respond to a request for comment.

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) New revelations have emerged about Kevin O’Connor, the infamous White House doctor accused of missing Joe Biden’s prostate cancer.  

According to the Daily Mail, O’Connor was both handpicked by the former president and once described by fellow White House physician Ronny Jackson as a son-figure to Jill Biden

“Kevin O’Connor is like a son to Jill Biden — she loves him. It’s crazy,” Jackson, now a Republican member of Congress, said in 2024

“Kevin O’Connor was in that job on day one of the Biden administration because they knew they could trust Kevin to say and do anything that needed to be said or done and cover up whatever needed to be covered up,” Jackson added. “He is part of the Biden family.” 

O’Connor’s reputation came under fire after Biden announced he was suffering from stage IV prostate cancer—an illness specialists say does not develop overnight 

Some physicians suggest Biden may have had the disease as early as 2021, but it was never disclosed or was simply missed. 

O’Connor served as Biden’s White House physician throughout the entirety of the 46th president’s tenure and left the post on March 7—just weeks after President Donald Trump took office. 

Critics now question how Biden’s cancer, which has since spread to his bones, went undetected for so long. 

“It is inconceivable that this was not being followed before he left the Presidency,” decried Dr. Howie Forman, a professor of radiology and biomedical imaging at Yale, in remarks to the Daily Mail.

Jackson himself reacted to the news in shock, writing: “Care at the White House should be second to none. Unbelievable this was missed, but the truth is, his physician was more concerned about assisting with the political cover up than providing world class medical care.”

Other observers said O’Connor may have concealed the diagnosis to preserve Biden’s public image and bolster his re-election bid. 

In 2024, O’Connor even gave Biden a clean bill of health, declaring there were “no new concerns.”

Husband of ‘Tiger King’ Joe Exotic Deported to Mexico

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The Trump administration this week deported the husband of reality TV personality Joseph “Joe Exotic” Maldonado-Pasage to Mexico after Flores completed his sentence for immigration-related offenses. 

Jorge Marquez Flores met Exotic while both were incarcerated at a Texas prison facility. Exotic announced that Flores was transferred to an ICE detention center. He was ultimately removed from the country.

“Rough day getting around. The ICE agents didn’t understand why he got sent back so fast,” Exotic wrote on Sunday.

Exotic—serving a 22-year sentence for murder-for-hire and federal wildlife violations—announced Flores’s removal on Instagram. 

In the same post, Exotic pleaded with President Donald Trump for clemency, claiming that he has suffered enough. If pardoned, Exotic vows to relocate to Mexico. 

Exotic asked Trump to watch season 2 of the Netflix series Tiger King in a follow-up post, claiming prosecutors “admitted to perjury” and “a plot to kill me on world television.” 

“I know that you are not fond of my lifestyle, but I supported you just allow me go to Mexico with my husband,” Exotic wrote.

Exotic and Flores married in April while in custody. Exotic said at the time they were seeking asylum status for Flores. 

Flores was allegedly caught crossing the southern border with six other illegal aliens in 2021, according to the US Sun.
