Vice President Travels to Los Angeles to Meet w/ Marines

(The Center Square) Vice President J.D. Vance traveled to Los Angeles Friday to meet with Marines and tour a federal law enforcement operations center.

Vance is expected to make remarks at federal facilities such as a mobile command center, according to media reports.

Marines are being used to guard a federal building near the University of California at Los Angeles, in the Westwood district that is close to downtown L.A. California National Guard members are guarding federal buildings in downtown Los Angeles.

Friday’s trip to Los Angeles makes Vance the highest-ranking official to visit the area since protests started June 6 over U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids.

In response to protests and riots, President Donald Trump on June 7 deployed 2,000 California National Guard members. He later deployed another 2,000 from the California National Guard, as well as 700 Marines.

Late Thursday night, Trump praised a U.S. appeals court for ruling earlier that day he can keep control of the California National Guard.

“BIG WIN in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on the President’s core power to call in the National Guard!” Trump posted on his privately-owned social media platform, Truth Social.

The post came after a three-justice panel from the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit ruled late Thursday for an indefinite block to U.S. District Court Judge Charles Breyer’s June 12 decision transferring control of the National Guard back to California Gov. Gavin Newsom. That means Trump can keep control of the California militia, in response to concerns over recent protesters and rioters in downtown Los Angeles, while Newsom’s lawsuit over the National Guard proceeds. The three justices consist of two appointed by Trump, Mark Bennett and Eric Miller, and one appointed by former President Joe Biden, Jennifer Sung.

In their opinion, the justices wrote they concluded it’s likely Trump’s order federalizing the California National Guard was authorized by Section 12406 of Title 10 of the U.S. Code. Trump used that section when he deployed the National Guard.

Earlier on Thursday, Los Angeles Dodgers fans protested when federal agents were seen outside Dodgers Stadium. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said the Customs and Borders Patrol vehicles were in the ballpark’s parking lot briefly. Homeland Security said the agents’ presence wasn’t related to any operation or enforcement.

On Thursday night, Trump described the appeals court ruling on the California National Guard as a judgment of Newsom’s competency. He used his critical nickname for Newsom in his post.

“The Judges obviously realized that Gavin Newscum is incompetent and ill prepared, but this is much bigger than Gavin, because all over the United States, if our Cities, and our people, need protection, we are the ones to give it to them should State and Local Police be unable, for whatever reason, to get the job done,” Trump wrote. “This is a Great Decision for our Country, and we will continue to protect and defend Law abiding Americans. Congratulations to the Ninth Circuit, America is proud of you tonight!”

Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have argued the federalization of the California National Guard is unnecessary and that law enforcement should be left to local agencies.

In his statement Thursday, Newsom expressed regret for the panel’s ruling, but noted he welcomed the justices’ comments that despite the Trump administration’s claims, courts have the authority to review the president’s use of the California National Guard.

Federal agents have faced criticism for making arrests at sites such as a church parking lot in the nearby city of Downey, separating family members and actions such as ramming into a suspect’s car with two unmarked vehicles.

In a statement earlier this week, Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin denied claims about federal agents doing racial profiling.

“DHS targets have nothing to do with an individuals’ skin color. What makes someone a target is if they are in the United States illegally. These types of disgusting smears are designed to demonize and villainize our brave ICE law enforcement,” McLaughlin said. “This kind of garbage has led to a more than 400 percent increase in the assaults on ICE officers. Politicians and activists must turn the temperature down and tone down their rhetoric.”

Family of Ex-FBI Agent, Who Disappeared During Secret CIA Mission in Iran, Call for Return of His Remains

(Headline USA) The family of a retired FBI agent presumed dead after vanishing in Iran 18 years ago is calling for any deal between the United States and Iran to include the return of his remains.

Robert Levinson disappeared on March 9, 2007, when he was scheduled to meet a source on the Iranian island of Kish. For years, U.S. officials would say only that Levinson was working independently on a private investigation. But a 2013 Associated Press investigation revealed that Levinson had been sent on a mission by CIA analysts who had no authority to run such an operation.

The U.S. government in 2020 said that it had concluded that Levinson had died while in the custody of Iran. The family at the time said that it did not know when or if Levinson’s body would be returned for burial but vowed that those responsible for his death would ultimately face justice.

“We want to make sure that our dad is not forgotten,” Daniel Levinson, one of Levinson’s sons, said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Friday.

The younger Levinson said that as President Donald Trump signals an interest in diplomacy over Tehran’s nuclear program that could avert direct U.S. military involvement in Iran’s war with Israel, now is the time for Washington to use its “leverage to hold them responsible.”

The family, he said, still has no answers but believes the Iranian government does.

“We fully believe that they know exactly where his remains would be and what exactly happened to him,” he said. “We want justice for him. We want to get answers. We have no answers and the Iranian government has lied about it for 18 years.”

On Thursday, an account on the social media platform X created to draw attention to Levinson’s case posted a message that said: “Our dad, Bob Levinson, was left behind too many times. This may be the last chance to get answers. Any deal with Iran must finally bring him home to rest on US soil.”

Among the people who reposted the message was FBI Director Kash Patel.

EXCLUSIVE: Judicial Watch Asks a Judge to Review Trump Shooting 911 Call after Police Ignore Lawsuit

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Last October, the pro-transparency group Judicial Watch helped this publication file a lawsuit against Bethel Park Police Department over its refusal to release audio of the 911 call Thomas Crooks’s father made the day his son allegedly tried assassinating Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Bethel Park has yet to respond to the lawsuit in court. After months of waiting, Judicial Watch filed a motion on Friday for a judge to intervene.

Specifically, Judicial Watch’s motion seeks an in camera review of the 911 call recording—meaning that the judge would review the recording himself in private to assess whether it should be released to the public.

“An in camera review is necessary for the Court to evaluate the content of the 911 recording and assess whether the public interest justifies its disclosure. Such a review allows the Court to examine the recording privately, ensuring that potentially sensitive information is not prematurely disclosed,” attorney J. Chadwick Schnee argued on behalf of Judicial Watch and Headline USA.

“Without an in camera review, the Court lacks the necessary information to balance the public interest in disclosure against any purported interest in nondisclosure,” Schnee said, adding that Bethel Park Police didn’t respond to his communications: “Counsel for Petitioners have contacted counsel for Respondent to see if they oppose this Motion, and Petitioners have not yet received an answer as to whether Respondent is opposed.”

Judicial Watch’s motion is the latest development in a nearly yearlong quest to unearth the Crooks 911 call.

This publication initially filed a request for the call last August, and Bethel Park Police denied disclosure nine days later—citing Section 708(b)(18) of the RTKL, which exempts 911 recordings from public disclosure. However, the exact same RTKL paragraph cited by Bethel Police also states that law enforcement can release 911 recordings that are in the public interest.

That’s where Judicial Watch came in. The non-profit watchdog agreed to take on this publication’s case, filing a lawsuit in late October in the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas to force Bethel Park Police to disclose the 911 call.

Then, after the lawsuit was filed, Allegheny County—where Crooks lived with his parents, Matthew and Mary Crooks—released a partial recording of the call to ABC News.

The call lasts roughly 2 minutes before abruptly ending.

“Hi, yes. Uh, my name is Matthew Crooks. I was calling in regards to my son, Thomas. Uh, he belongs to the Clairton Sportsman Club in Clairton, and I don’t have the number for Jefferson Police on hand. The reason I’m calling is he left the house here at about a quarter to two this afternoon, and we’ve gotten no contact from him, no text messages, nothing’s been returned, and he’s not home yet,” Matthew said.

“That’s totally not like him. So we’re kind of worried, not really sure what we should do.”

The recording ended after Matthew confirmed his son was 20 years old.

Presumably, the recording ended because Allegheny County’s 911 dispatcher hung up after transferring the call to Bethel Park Police. Bethel Park has indeed confirmed that the recording it’s refusing to release is longer than the one from the Allegheny County dispatch.

On Monday, this writer discussed the matter with Judicial Watch’s Chris Farrell on his show, On Watch. Farrell compared Bethel Park’s stonewalling to when Fulton County DA Fani Willis ignored Judicial Watch’s request for records on her failed prosecution of Trump, which resulted in her office having to pay more than $54,000 in legal fees to the group.

“If these cops decide to not answer the [request], it probably will not go very well,” Farrell said.

Trump Calls for DOJ to Investigate 2020 Election after Records about Chinese Interference Emerge

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) President Donald Trump on Friday called for the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate the 2020 election in the wake of revelations that the FBI had intelligence about Chinese interference—and that senior officials blocked agents from investigating further.

“Biden was grossly incompetent, and the 2020 election was a total FRAUD!” Trump said in a social media post in which he also sought to favorably contrast his immigration enforcement approach with that of the former president. “The evidence is MASSIVE and OVERWHELMING. A Special Prosecutor must be appointed. This cannot be allowed to happen again in the United States of America! Let the work begin!”

Earlier this week, the FBI released documents from August 2020, when the bureau received a tip from a confidential informant, who alleged that China was manufacturing and exporting fake U.S. driver’s licenses so that Chinese nationals in the U.S. could vote with fake mail-in ballots.

“The intelligence source claimed the plot was specifically designed to benefit Biden,” Just the News, which broke the story first, reported Monday.

While the FBI records appear to be underpinned only by the informant’s information, Just the News reported that another agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, had intercepted nearly 20,000 fake licenses around the time the intelligence came. Most of these IDs allegedly came from Hong Kong and China in late July 2020 and were en route to a Midwestern battleground state.

Despite that evidence, the FBI issued a recall notice directing agencies to erase and delete copies of the original report, which described how China may have shipped “tens of thousands” of pro-Biden “fraudulent mail-in votes.”

At the time, the FBI offered no real explanation for the recall notice, only stating it needed to re-interview the source.

“This report was recalled in order to re-interview the source,” the notice read, as first reported by Just the News on Wednesday. “Recipients should destroy all copies of the original report and remove the original report from all computer holdings.”

Iran Firing More Advanced Missiles as Israel Is Running Low on Interceptors

(Dave DeCamp, Antiwar.comA senior Israeli intelligence official told NBC News on Thursday that Israel intercepted only 65% of the missiles Iran fired at Israeli territory over the previous 24 hours, as the Iranian military has started firing more advanced weapons.

“Iran still has very advanced missiles, and they are making use of them,” the official said, adding that Israel has less time to react to the missile launches.

“Until yesterday, we got an early warning of about 10 to 11 minutes before the missiles actually fell. But this morning, it was six or seven minutes. It means that the missiles were probably much faster than the previous ones,” he said.

The official said that Iran also has a “navigation system for the final phase of the attack,” enabling it to launch precise strikes.

He also threw cold water on the idea that regime change was imminent, saying that Iran has the “resolve and the ability to continue and to sustain the attacks, so we have to be much more careful whenever we speak about the imminent collapse of the regime, which is far from being true.”

As Iran is firing more advanced missiles, Israel is running low on its US-made Arrow interceptors that it needs to shoot down long-range ballistic missiles. The Wall Street Journal reported that the US has been aware of Israel’s capacity problem and has been helping intercept Iranian missiles using systems on the ground, warships, and planes, dwindling the US’s own munitions supply.

According to The New York Times, Israel is using interceptors faster than it can produce them, forcing it to ration the munitions. “Already, Israel’s military has had to conserve its use of interceptors and is giving greater priority to the defense of densely populated areas and strategic infrastructure, according to the officials,” the paper said.

It’s unclear how sustainable the current operations are for Iran, as it’s not known how many long-range ballistic missiles the country has.

Pentagon Agency Believes US Needs To Drop A Nuke To Destroy Iran’s Fordow Nuclear Plant

(Dave DeCamp, Antiwar.comThe Pentagon’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) has told US officials that in order to destroy Iran’s Fordow nuclear plant, which is buried deep underground, the US may need to drop a nuclear weapon, The Guardian has reported.

According to the report, Pentagon officials who received the briefing were told that dropping GBU-57s, conventional 30,000-pound bunker-busting bombs, would not penetrate deep enough underground and that it would only do enough damage to collapse tunnels and bury the facility under rubble.

The officials were told that in order to destroy Fordow completely, the US would likely need to first soften the ground with conventional bombs and then ultimately drop a tactical nuclear weapon from a B2 bomber.

The report said that President Trump is not considering using a nuclear weapon and that the option was not presented to him by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. According to a report from Axios, Trump is casting doubt on the idea that the GBU-57s could do enough damage to destroy the facility.

Israel wants the US to drop the bunker-busting bombs on Fordow since it lacks the capability, but so far, Trump has not given the order for US airstrikes on Iran. The president said on Thursday that he woulddecide within two weeks, although there are indications that attacks could begin this weekend.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched the war and the attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities over claims that Iran was seeking a nuclear weapon, but that was contradicted by both US intelligence and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which have said there’s no evidence Tehran had made the decision to pursue a nuclear bomb.

9th Circuit Rules in Favor of Trump on National Guard in California

(The Center Square) – Authority on deployment of the National Guard in California by the president was given approval late Thursday by a panel in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

A panel of three justices ruled unanimously to indefinitely block a June 12 U.S. District Court ruling that would have transferred control of the National Guard immediately back to California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The ruling means second-term Republican President Donald Trump can keep control of the National Guard while Newsom proceeds with a lawsuit over the legality of Trump’s use of the National Guard to handle protests in downtown Los Angeles. The suit could ultimately end up in the U.S. Supreme Court.

The panel didn’t agree with the Trump administration that federalization of the National Guard can’t be reviewed by a court.

“We disagree with defendants’ primary argument that the president’s decision to federalize members of the California National Guard under 10 U.S.C. § 12406 is completely insulated from judicial review,” justices wrote in their opinion. “Nonetheless, we are persuaded that, under longstanding precedent interpreting the statutory predecessor to § 12406, our review of that decision must be highly deferential.”

Section 12406 of Title 10 of the U.S. Code covers the nation’s armed forces. Trump invoked Section 12406 to deploy 4,000 National Guard members on June 7 in response to protests and riots in downtown Los Angeles. Enforcement of federal law – anyone coming to America who is not a U.S. citizen must show a visa, or travel authorization, at a port of entry – by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was at the heart of the protests.

“Affording the president that deference, we conclude that it is likely that the president lawfully exercised his statutory authority under § 12406(3), which authorizes federalization of the National Guard when ‘the president is unable with the regular forces to execute the laws of the United States,'” the justices wrote.

Newsom expressed disappointment with the ruling but welcomed the justices’ rejection of Trump’s claims that he didn’t have to answer to a court about federalizing the California National Guard.

“The court rightly rejected Trump’s claim that he can do whatever he wants with the National Guard and not have to explain himself to a court,” Newsom said in a statement. “The president is not a king and is not above the law. We will press forward with our challenge to President Trump’s authoritarian use of U.S. military soldiers against citizens.”

The Trump administration is using National Guard members to guard federal buildings, and workers, in downtown Los Angeles. The administration is using Marines to guard a federal building and its workers near the University of California at Los Angeles, which is in a district about 14 miles from the downtown area.

Massive Bias Found in Poll that Claimed Americans Support War w/ Iran

(José Niño, Headline USA) The integrity of political polling is under the microscope after GrayHouse, a Republican-aligned firm, published results suggesting overwhelming support for U.S. involvement in Israel’s conflict with Iran.

On Tuesday, a heated controversy erupted over the credibility and motives of GrayHouse, a political polling firm led by Landon Wall, a prominent Republican pollster. This poll reported overwhelming support among Trump voters for U.S. military involvement in support of Israel against Iran.

This finding sharply contradicted established polling from organizations like The Economist/YouGov, which found a majority of Trump supporters opposed such intervention.

Landon Wall, GrayHouse’s founder, is a well-known strategist who has advised Republican leadership and campaigns nationwide. His firm has become a go-to pollster for the Senate GOP.

The GrayHouse poll in question, carried out last week, surveyed 450 Trump voters and found that nearly 80% supported providing offensive weapons to Israel, 72% backed direct U.S. military action against Iran, and 83% approved of Israel’s strikes on Iranian targets.

However, these results drew immediate skepticism and criticism online. Detractors accused GrayHouse of manufacturing consent for military escalation.

Chris Menahan, the publisher of the Information Liberation, suggested the firm was acting as a partisan “GOP shill” to justify U.S. involvement in a foreign conflict.

Menahan added that GrayHouse’s “X account is 2 months old” and “It appears it’s run by one man, Landon Wall, seen here on LinkedIn liking a post praising Palantir/Alex Karp.”

A recent Economist/YouGov poll, conducted last week, found that a clear majority of Americans—60%—oppose U.S. military involvement in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. Only 16% of respondents manifested support for intervention, whereas 24% stated they were unsure.

The survey’s findings directly challenge claims of broad public backing for military action. Notably, opposition was strong even among Trump supporters: 53% of those who identified as Trump voters said they do not want the U.S. military involved, compared to just 19% who support intervention and 28% who are undecided.

The poll also revealed resistance to military engagement across the political spectrum. Among Democrats, 65% opposed involvement, with just 15% in favor and 20% unsure. Republican respondents were similarly in opposition, with 53% against, 23% in support, and 24% unsure. Independents showed the highest level of opposition, with 61% rejecting military action, 11% supporting it, and 28% undecided.

Why Prices Never go Down

(Peter St Onge, Money Metals News Service) Bidenflation is over. But if you feel like prices still aren’t falling, you’re not alone.

Since Donald Trump took office, inflation has plunged from a Biden-era 5 percent to just 1.4%.

This is actually below the Fed’s target of 2%. Normally, at this point, the Fed would be trying to pump inflation since it’s “too low.”

Of course, for the American people, 1.4% is not “too low.” What they want is falling prices, as in take it back to pre-Biden prices.

Will that happen?

In short, no. Prices will never durably fall until we get rid of the Federal Reserve.

Because deflation — falling prices — is the #1 thing the Fed fears. Not unemployment. Not recession. Not nuclear war.

This comes from that core propaganda that created central banks: The false claim that deflation itself is bad.

Good Deflation

There are two very different kinds of deflation.

There’s the healthy — in fact, normal — deflation you automatically get from a growing economy. And the unhealthy deflation when a central-bank financial bubble collapses.

So, walking through, inflation is about how much money is chasing how much goods.

More money gives you inflation — too much money chasing goods.

More goods gives you deflation — more goods for money to chase.

So if your economy is growing, it means you’re producing more goods. So it takes fewer dollars to buy an apple — a dollar an apple when it used to be 2.

That deflation is good — it means you’re growing.

Central Bank Deflation

But there’s a second bad deflation called “debt deflation.”

This is where the amount of goods doesn’t change, the amount of money collapses. Specifically, mass defaults that collapse the money substitutes called debt.

That means the surviving dollars also buy more — a dollar buys an apple. Not because there’s more apples, but because there’s effectively less money.

This normally doesn’t happen — outside catastrophic war, you don’t get massive economy-wide defaults.

Unless there’s a financial crisis.

And what causes financial crises? Ironically enough, central banks. Who does it like clockwork?

They do this by making money artificially cheap with low interest rates and Quantitative Easing. And then slamming the brakes when the cheap money causes inflation.

The central bank boom-bust cycle.

Slamming the brakes causes widespread bankruptcies and defaults — less money. And it causes recession — less goods.

But in practice, the defaults far outrun the production. So less stuff, but a lot less money.

Sometimes this can be very big: in the 1919 and 1930’s depressions peak deflation was 30 to 40 percent — a dollar bought almost twice what it used to.

Which was catastrophic for borrowers: A farmer or small business suddenly had to pay effectively twice as much on their loans. All thanks to the Fed’s boom-bust.

Nowadays, debt deflation is much smaller — it peaked at 2% in the 2008 crisis.

Because nowadays, central banks immediately jump in to dump freshly printed money into markets.

So, setting aside the hilarious irony that the Fed fights good deflation specifically because it creates bad deflation, this means even after a catastrophic inflation like Biden or the 1970’s the Fed will never let prices come back down.

The Earth Is Leaking Gold!

(Mike Maharrey, Money Metals News Service) Generally speaking, a leak is bad news.

If your car tire is leaking, you’re probably going to end up stranded on the side of the road.

If a pipe in your house is leaking, you’re probably going to end up with wet carpet.

And if your team’s defense is leaky, well, it’s probably not going to win very many games.

Well, the Earth is leaking.

The good news is this isn’t bad news!

Because the Earth is leaking gold.

Scientists studying volcanic rock in Hawaii discovered signs of a precious metal called ruthenium. This platinum group metal has unique characteristics that make it quite valuable. It hardens other metals, serves as a catalyst, and enhances electrical conductivity. Ruthenium is used in electrical contacts, jewelry, solar cells, and as a catalyst in chemical reactions.

The unique aspect of this find is the fact that the scientists determined that the metal could only have come from deep inside the Earth’s core, some 1,800 miles below the Earth’s surface.

As it turns out, ruthenium wasn’t the only metal oozing from the core.

When the first results came in, we realized that we had literally struck gold!” study author Nils Messling said.

“Our data confirmed that material from the core, including gold and other precious metals, is leaking into the Earth’s mantle above.”

The outer core is a layer of molten rock swirling around the inner core, mostly formed as a solid iron ball.

There are thousands of miles of nearly impenetrable rock between the core and the Earth’s surface, known as the mantle. It extends from about 22 miles below the Earth’s surface and crust to the core. The boundary between Earth’s center and the mantle lies about 1,800 miles deep.

The Earth’s molten outer core holds about 99.9 percent of the planet’s gold and other precious metals. It is impossible to mine the core. However, nature is apparently mining itself.

Researchers studying the lava erupting from the Kilauea Volcano discovered that the makeup of the molten rock suggests that it originated from the Earth’s center.

Live Science explained the ramifications.

“The detection of Ru linked to the core demonstrates that precious metals, including gold, can move out of the center of the Earth. That means some of these precious metals we mine today may have originally come from the core.”

Another researcher said the discovery shows that the Earth’s core isn’t as isolated as once thought.

“We can now also prove that huge volumes of super-heated mantle material — several hundreds of quadrillion metric tonnes of rock — originate at the core-mantle boundary and rise to the Earth’s surface to form ocean islands like Hawaii.”

We’re not talking about significant amounts of gold here. I don’t recommend trying to scoop up lava in a quest for riches. But as far as leaks go, it’s not a bad one!
