FBI Spook Pleads Guilty for Not Reporting his Foreign ‘Loans’

(Headline USA) A former high-ranking FBI counterintelligence official pleaded guilty on Friday to concealing at least $225,000 in cash that he allegedly received from a former Albanian intelligence official while working for the agency.

Charles McGonigal, 55, was the special agent in charge of the FBI’s counterintelligence division in New York from 2016 to 2018, when he retired.

The charge to which he pleaded guilty — concealment of material facts — carries a maximum prison sentence of five years. U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly in Washington, D.C., is scheduled to sentence McGonigal on Feb. 16, 2024.

The indictment for the Washington case does not characterize the payment to McGonigal as a bribe, but federal prosecutors say he was required to report it. The payment created a conflict of interest between McGonigal’s FBI duties and his private financial interests, the indictment said.

In August, McGonigal pleaded guilty in New York to a separate charge that he conspired to violate sanctions on Russia by going to work for a Russian oligarch whom he had investigated.

An indictment unsealed in January accused McGonigal of working with a former Soviet diplomat-turned-interpreter on behalf of Russian billionaire industrialist Oleg Deripaska. McGonigal accepted over $17,000 to help Deripaska collect derogatory information about another Russian oligarch who was a business competitor.

Deripaska has been under U.S. sanctions since 2018 for reasons related to Russia’s occupation of Crimea. McGonigal also was charged with working to have Deripaska’s sanctions lifted.

McGonigal is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 14 for his conviction in the New York case.

McGonigal was arrested in January after arriving at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport

In the Washington case, McGonigal agreed with prosecutors that he failed to report the $225,000 loan, his travel in Europe with the person who lent him the money or his contacts with foreign nationals during the trips, including the prime minister of Albania.

McGonigal hasn’t repaid the money that he borrowed, a prosecutor said.

USDA Provides Nebraska Statewide Arboretum with $10 Million to Plant Trees

(Tom Joyce, The Center Square) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service provided the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum with a five-year, $10 million grant to improve its urban forest infrastructure.

The arboretum plans to use this grant for tree plantings, tree maintenance and removal, and workforce development.

“The primary aims of the grant are to plant and maintain trees, combat extreme heat and climate change, and increase equitable access to trees and their benefits,” a press release from Nebraska Statewide Arboretum said. “The work will align with the Justice40 initiative, which aims to bring resources to disadvantaged communities most impacted by climate change, pollution, and environmental hazards.”

The state will remove ash trees infected with emerald ash borer from public and private landscapes, plant trees to reduce heat in select communities, and provide workforce training to increase the number of certified arborists and other tree care professionals.

The grant the state received was one of 385 awards nationwide, totaling more than $1 billion. The funding comes from the Inflation Reduction Act.

The Nebraska Statewide Arboretum provides green infrastructure, technical, educational and grant assistance to rural and urban communities. It has more than 45 years of experience and is one of three entities in Nebraska receiving this funding.

Hanna Pinneo, executive director of the arboretum, said the grant will offer an economic benefit to the state.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be awarded this significant grant, which will profoundly impact the health, safety, and well-being of thousands of Nebraskans in communities across the state,” Pinneo said in the release. “This investment will not only help to create greener cities and towns, it will also expand access to green space in previously underserved communities and create more jobs in the tree care industry, which will, in turn, deliver tangible economic benefits to Nebraskans for years to come.”

Nebraska State Forester John Erixson said community forests help all Nebraska residents.

“Community forests benefit all Nebraskans by protecting our homes, cleaning air and water, and mitigating heat islands in urban settings,”  Erixson said in the release. “This level of investment will be transformative for Nebraska’s communities and all of us who live in the community forest.”

Judge: 9/11 Conspirator Unfit for Trial Because of CIA’s Torture

(Headline USA) A military judge at Guantanamo Bay has ruled one of the 9/11 defendants unfit for trial after a military medical panel found that the man’s sustained abuse in CIA custody years earlier has rendered him lastingly psychotic.

The judge, Col. Matthew McCall, said the incompetency finding for Ramzi bin al-Shibh meant the prosecution of his four co-defendants would continue without him. Al-Shibh remains in custody.

McCall issued his ruling late Thursday. Pre-trial hearings for the remaining defendants resumed Friday in the military courtroom at the U.S. naval base on Cuba. No trial date has been set for the case, which has been slowed by logistical problems, high turnover and legal challenges.

A Yemeni, al-Shibh is accused of organizing one cell of the 19 hijackers who commandeered four commercial airplanes to carry out the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people outright in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. The attacks were the deadliest of their kind on U.S. soil.

Brett Eagleson, whose father, Bruce Eagleson, was killed when one of the hijacked planes destroyed the south tower of the World Trade Center, called the events that forced the sidelining of al-Shibh’s prosecution “another example of the lack of justice that the 9/11 community has received at the hands of our own government.”

“They wrongfully tortured these individuals. We don’t stand for torture. Because of that we’re denied a trial. We’re denied true justice,” said Eagleson, who leads a group of victims’ families pushing the U.S. to release more of the documents of its investigations into the attacks.

The attacks, and the American response to them, altered the course of history and the lives of countless people around the world. They led the George W. Bush administration to take extraordinary steps in what it called a war on terror: invading Afghanistan and Iraq, setting up an extraordinary program of CIA interrogation and detention, and creating the special prison and military commission for suspected violent extremists at Guantanamo.

A military medical panel last month diagnosed al-Shibh as having post-traumatic stress disorder with secondary psychosis, and linked it to his torture and solitary confinement during his four years in CIA custody immediately after his 2002 arrest.

Al-Shibh has complained for years since his transfer to the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay that his guards were attacking him, including by invisible rays, so as to deprive him of sleep and cause him pain. McCall’s ruling noted that psychological reports dating back at least to 2004 had documented al-Shibh’s mental issues.

Defense attorney David Bruck told McCall in a hearing Tuesday that al-Shibh’s overwhelming focus on trying to stop the invisible attacks, and his insistence that his defense lawyers do the same, rendered him incapable of meaningfully taking part in his defense.

Bruck pointed to what he said was al-Shibh’s solitary confinement over four years in detention at CIA black sites, and torture that included his being forced to stand sleepless for as long as three days at a time, naked except for a diaper and doused with cold water in air-conditioned rooms, for the man’s lasting belief that his American guards were still conspiring to deprive him of sleep.

Bruck indicated in Tuesday’s hearing that al-Shibh would be expected to remain in custody while court officials waited for him to become mentally competent again, if that ever happens.

Defense attorneys and a U.N.-appointed investigator have argued that the five 9/11 co-defendants should be given physical and psychological care for the lasting effects of the torture they underwent while in CIA custody under the Bush administration.

Bruck told McCall in Tuesday’s hearing PTSD treatment would offer the best hope of al-Shibh ever regaining competency to stand trial. He said the forced sidelining of the U.S. case against the man would be “an opportunity for the country to come to account on the harm” done by what he called the CIA’s “program of human experimentation.”

Reached by phone Friday, Bruck said the judge’s ruling was the first time the U.S. government had acknowledged that “the CIA torture program did profound and prolonged psychological harm to one of the people subjected to it.”

The five 9/11 defendants were variously subjected to repeated waterboarding, beatings, violent repeated searches of their rectal cavities, sleep deprivation and other abuse while at so-called CIA black sites.

The CIA says it stopped its detention and interrogation program in 2009. A Senate investigation concluded the abuse had been ineffective in obtaining useful information.

6-Month-Old Baby Nearly Eaten by Rats in Ind.

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) A 6-month-old baby boy from Evansville, Ind., was nearly eaten alive by rats that bit him more than 50 times while he slept in his crib last week.

David and Angel Schonabaum, the boy’s parents, were arrested and charged with child neglect after they awoke to find their child drenched in blood last Wednesday, 14News reported.

Delania Thurman, the baby’s aunt, who lived in the same home as the parents, was also arrested on the same charge.

The boy lost a significant amount of blood after rats bit his forehead, cheek, nose, thigh, foot, arm, fingers and toes, the arrest affidavits said.

Additionally, police said that his right arm had been gnawed by rodents from his elbow down to his hand and parts of his fingers were bitten off so that his bones were exposed.

The doctors in Indianapolis — the place where the infant was flown to a hospital — gave the child a blood transfusion after his temperature had dropped to 93.5 degrees.

Police added that the family’s home on South Linwood Avenue — where the boy’s 3- and 6-year-old siblings and 2- and 5-year-old cousins also lived — was full of clutter, trash and rat feces.

“It’s really hard to see that and sometimes it’s really hard to maintain composure and be professional,” Evansville police Sgt. Anna Gray said, adding that the stomach-turning scene was one of the worst child neglect cases she has seen in her career spanning decades.

The family began having a rodent issue in March and Terminix exterminators were treating the house, according to the baby’s father.

However, that wasn’t the first time when the rodents tried to eat the children in the house.

The affidavit stated that on Sept. 1, 2023, two cousins of the baby who lived in the house told a teacher at their school that mice bit their toes while they were sleeping.

An employee with the Indiana Department of Child Services visited the home four days later and Thurman claimed that the marks on her child’s toes were likely just scratches from the bed frame.

In addition to rodents trying to eat children, adults who lived in the house weren’t any better. Since April, a case manager has been visiting the home twice a week due to past reports, among which was a claim last year that a child was hurt due to a lack of supervision and a claim in June that David Schonabaum had physically abused one of the children.

Abbott Sends More Buses to Border to Move Illegals North

(Bethany Blakely, The Center Square) – On Friday, Gov. Greg Abbott announced he directed even more buses to key border communities to move illegal border crossers north who’ve been released into local communities by the Biden administration.

He directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to deploy additional buses to Eagle Pass and El Paso, border communities being hard hit by 10,000 illegal border crossers in just a few days this week.

“President Biden’s continued refusal to secure our border invites thousands of illegal crossings into Texas and our nation each day,” Gov. Abbott said on Friday. “Texas communities like Eagle Pass and El Paso should not have to shoulder the unprecedented surge of illegal immigration caused by President Biden’s reckless open border policies. I have directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to deploy additional buses to send these migrants to self-declared sanctuary cities and provide much-needed relief to our overrun border towns. Until President Biden upholds his constitutional duty to secure America’s southern border, Texas will continue to deploy as many buses as needed to relieve the strain caused by the surge of illegal crossings.”

Buses in El Paso and Eagle Pass were activated in addition to the state’s ongoing bus operations in Brownsville, Del Rio, Laredo, and McAllen.

Gov. Abbott began the busing strategy in April 2022, when he first directed TDEM to charter transportation for illegal border crossers whom Abbott argues were unlawfully released into local communities by the Biden administration. Transportation is voluntary and free to illegal foreign nationals; it costs Texas taxpayers millions of dollars. Governors in Arizona, both Republican and Democratic, followed Abbott’s lead and began sending buses of border-crossing nationals to states north of the border.

Adults must sign a waiver for themselves and minors under their care, provide their DHS documentation, and choose which of the six self-described sanctuary cities they want to go to. Texas border mayors and county judges have been instructed to notify TDEM of any DHS-facilitated drop-off in their communities so the agency can help move out people out of Texas.

Since April 2022, when Abbott’s busing strategy began, Texas has bused nearly 12,000 people to Washington, D.C. Since August 2022, Texas has bused nearly 15,000 to New York City and nearly 9,000 to Chicago. Since November 2022, Texas has bused over 3,000 people to Philadelphia.

This year, he expanded the busing strategy to two additional self-described sanctuary cities. Since May, Texas has bused over 1,600 people to Denver and 610 migrants to Los Angeles since June.

The busing strategy is part of Gov. Abbott’s border security mission, Operation Lone Star. The primary focus of OLS, Gov. Abbott says, is to “secure the border; stop the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and people into Texas; and prevent, detect, and interdict transnational criminal activity between ports of entry.” The Texas legislature has allocated roughly $10 billion over two legislative sessions to fund OLS.

Since OLS was launched in early 2021, as of Sept. 22, OLS officers have apprehended over 457,500 illegal foreign nationals. They’ve made more than 34,400 criminal arrests, with more than 31,300 felony charges reported. They’ve also seized over 429 million lethal doses of fentanyl, enough to kill more than the entire populations of the U.S. and Canada combined.

“Every individual who is apprehended or arrested and every ounce of drugs seized would have otherwise made their way into communities across Texas and the nation due to President Joe Biden’s open border policies,” Gov. Abbott says.

Federal Judge Strikes Down California’s Large Capacity Magazine Ban Again

(Headline USA) California cannot ban gun owners from having detachable magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, a federal judge ruled Friday.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta, a Democrat, has already filed a notice to appeal the ruling.

This is the second time Benitez has struck down California’s law banning certain types of magazines.

The first time he struck it down —in 2017 — an appeals court reversed his decision.

But last year, the U.S. Supreme Court required gun regulations to be justified by the US Constitution or the historical tradition of gun regulation in America.

The Supreme Court ordered the case to be heard again in light of the renewed Constitutional standards. It’s one of three high-profile challenges to California gun laws that are getting new hearings in court. The other two cases challenge California laws banning assault-style weapons and limiting purchases of ammunition.

Benitez ruled that “there is no American tradition of limiting ammunition capacity.” He said detachable magazines “solved a problem with historic firearms: running out of ammunition and having to slowly reload a gun.”

“There have been, and there will be, times where many more than 10 rounds are needed to stop attackers,” Benitez wrote. “Yet, under this statute, the State says ‘too bad.’”

Bonta said larger capacity magazines are also important to mass shooters, allowing them to fire quickly into crowds of people without reloading. He said the U.S. Supreme Court made it clear the new standard for reviewing gun laws “did not create a regulatory straitjacket for states.”

“We believe that the district court got this wrong,” Bonta said. “We will move quickly to correct this incredibly dangerous mistake.”

Chuck Michel, president of the California Rifle and Pistol Association, praised Benitez for a “thoughtful and in-depth approach.”

“Sure, the state will appeal, but the clock is ticking on laws that violate the Constitution,” Michel said.

California has been at the forefront of gun restrictions in the United States. Last week, California became the first state to call for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would ban assault weapons and gun sales to people under 21, among other changes.

Gov. Gavin Newsom called Benitez’s ruling “a radical decision.”

Newsom continued whining about the decision.

“Unless we enshrine a Right to Safety in the Constitution, we are at the mercy of ideologues like Judge Benitez.”

MURDOCK: ‘Fetterman Rule’ Turns Senate into Roomful of Empty Suits

(Deroy Murdock, Headline USA) As if Bidenflation, collapsing school-test scores, a demolished “border,” vagrant encampments, stool-stained sidewalks, blood-soaked streets, juvenile genital mutilation, surging sex slavery, and mounting foreign threats were not enough, Democrats just trashed the majesty of the World’s Greatest Deliberative Body.

Not even the Senate’s dress code could withstand the Democrat impulse to make things dirty, ugly, and dangerous. Why? That’s what Democrats do.

In a major wardrobe malfunction, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., ditched the 234-year-old commitment that lawmakers govern in business attire. “Senators are able to choose what they wear on the Senate floor,” Schumer stated Monday. “I will continue to wear a suit.”

Most will do likewise. Others will start casual-Friday style and devolve from there.

“This is a phenomenally stupid move,” Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, told me. He added: “Some institutions require a degree of formality. The Senate is one of them.”

“When you aim lower, you can always get there,” Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., told Fox News: “The idea of turning the Senate into a sports bar is very unappealing to me.”

Schumer did this for Sen. John “Mr. Potato Head” Fetterman, the Democrat root vegetable whom Pennsylvanians elected last November.

The former lieutenant governor suffered a stroke last year. He lied to voters that he was on the mend. Moreover, he plagiarized Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign playbook: Hide at home and clam up.

Fetterman finally emerged to debate Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz and shocked voters with these opening words: “Hi. Goodnight, everybody.”

Fetterman seemingly sprang an oil leak when asked to reconcile his pro- and anti-fracking positions. After five seconds of silence, he said, “Uh, I, I do support fracking. And I don’t. I don’t. I support fracking. And I stand. And I do. I support fracking.”

It suddenly became indisputable that Fetterman was too damaged to perform this demanding job. Alas, some 630,000 voters with negligently incomplete knowledge already had cast early ballots. Fetterman beat Oz 51.2% to 46.3%. (This is Exhibit A for why votes should occur on Election Day, not Election Quarter.)

Fetterman’s mental deficiencies supposedly render him incapable of dressing like a man. Instead, he resembles a slovenly boy.

Fetterman’s shabbiness is not just stomach turning. It’s pathetic. Senators in far worse shape served their people without appearing as if they wandered in after working out.

These senators, and surely others, wore suits, jackets, trousers, ties, and (for Duckworth) corresponding women’s apparel. And now, to appease Fetterman, Democrats have established a mere non-nudity rule. Never mind that Fetterman’s arms and legs still function.

Fetterman should quit making Americans’ skin crawl. If his wife won’t dress him for work, a personal aid should help him put on big-boy pants, button his shirt, and don a tie, even a clip-on. Add jacket and dress shoes and—Voila—the junior senator from the Keystone State!

Rather than being the skunk at the smorgasbord, Fetterman should conquer his disabilities, dress appropriately, and move to restore the Senate’s style standards. Otherwise, Democrats will make the Senate look like a redeye flight deplaning at dawn.

Latino Teen Labeled ‘White’ After Fatally Mowing Down Retired Cop on Bike

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Jesus Ayala, a Latino teen currently facing charges related to his alleged role in the brutal killing of a retired police officer, Andreas Probst, has been classified as “white” by local law enforcement, igniting fierce criticism on social media.

Headline USA reviewed inmate records obtained from the Clark County Jail in Nevada, confirming that Ayala, who drove his vehicle into Probst, was labeled as “white” in official documents.

The gut-wrenching incident, captured on video by Ayala’s 16-year-old friend, Jzamir Keys, showed the brutal and deadly collision with Probst, who was peacefully riding his bike in a Nevada neighborhood.

“Ready?” one of the alleged perpetrators can be heard asking. “Yeah, hit his ass,” another responded before carrying out the harrowing act.

Both Ayala and Keys now face charges of murder with a deadly weapon, battery and attempted murder, the New York Post reported.

The controversial classification of Ayala as “white” has triggered a wave of concerns from conservative voices, with some accusing law enforcement of manipulating racial crime statistics.

Twitter account “End Wokeness” first pointed out the racial classification. “Jesus Ayala is a Latino teen who drove into and killed retired cop Andreas Probst,” the account said. “He was booked into the system as white.”

Political commentator Eva Vlaardingerbroek echoed the remarks, saying, “And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you manipulate racial crime statistics. Unbelievable.” Blaze podcast host Auron MacIntyre chimed in, adding, “Those crime stats aren’t going to cook themselves.”

This would not mark the first time racial classification has come under scrutiny. The U.S. Census Bureau has recently sought to add new ethnic categories for Arabs, Middle Easterners and Hispanics, who are currently classified as white for federal purposes. However, the Census’s proposal was mired by allegations of fueling the leftist idea of identity politics for political gain.

During his arrest, Ayala displayed a defiant attitude. “You think this juvenile [expletive] is gonna do some [expletive]? I’ll be out in 30 days, I’ll bet you,” he reportedly told police officials during his arrest. “It’s just ah, [expletive] ah, hit-and-run — slap on the wrist.”

Ayala’s mother expressed despair in an interview with KLAS. “I don’t know why he did this. I don’t know if God can forgive this.”

REPORT: Democrats ‘Panicked’ Trump Will Win the Blue Collar Vote

(Headline USA) Democrats are reportedly panicked that former President Donald Trump “outmaneuvered” President Joe Biden by announcing a rally with striking auto workers this week.

Trump announced on Monday that he plans to skip the second GOP presidential debate and visit Detroit instead, where he will meet with members of the United Auto Workers union.

Left-wing operatives who spoke on condition of anonymity admitted the move was strategically brilliant.

“Trump scooped us. Now if we announce we’re going, it looks like we’re just going because of Trump,” a Democratic strategist told Politico. “We waited too long. That’s the challenge.”

Now, if Biden announces a rally with the striking workers, it will seem like he’s only doing it because of Trump, another adviser said.

“He boxed Biden in. It was kinda genius,” the union adviser said.

Despite claiming to be a champion of Big Labor, Biden faces a precarious situation if the strike lingers long into campaign season, potentially driving inflation, supply chains and other recessionary factors ever nearer as he desperately tries to gaslight the public with claims that his Bidenomics policies have succeeded where many continue to feel only economic pain.

Even “Squad” member Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., acknowledged that Trump’s appeal among blue collar voters will be hard to beat.

“We should not underestimate Donald Trump. He’s a survivor and this is going to be a very hard-fought campaign,” Khanna said.

“We need a message to working-class Americans,” he added. “Right now, they’re still hurting in terms of gas prices, food prices, housing costs, utilities costs, and they don’t feel like their wages are going up fast enough, and they feel like the very wealthy are getting too much of the rewards. That’s what I heard on the picket lines.”

Trump also released an ad blitz in support of the UAW workers this week, arguing that Biden’s policies have robbed them of the American dream.

“All they’ve ever wanted is to compete fairly worldwide and get their fair share of the American dream,” Trump says in a radio ad, according to the New York Times. “Donald Trump calls them great Americans and has always had their backs.”

Ronna ‘Romney’ McDaniel Doubled Income Despite Countless GOP Losses

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Ronna Romney McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), has come under scrutiny for her hefty salary increases during a period marked by numerous Republican losses.

Federal Election Commission data, analyzed by the Washington Examiner, exposes a notable surge in her income, raising questions about whether the RNC chair deserves the pay.

As detailed by the Examiner, McDaniel’s initial salary as the RNC chairwoman was $122,582. However, between January 2022 and November 2022, her salary skyrocketed to $358,431. In 2020, she received an impressive $410,640, potentially setting a record as the highest-ever salary paid to an RNC chair.

McDaniel’s compensation marks a significant contrast to the mere $152,874 paid to former RNC chair Reince Priebus during his tenure in 2016.

The Examiner’s revelations ignited a wave of criticism on social media, with many conservative commentators highlighting the GOP’s electoral losses since former President Donald Trump captured the White House in the contentious 2016 presidential election.

Ever since, the GOP faced significant setbacks, losing control of the House of Representatives in 2018 and subsequently losing both the White House and the Senate in the 2020 presidential election.

In January 2023, shortly after Republicans gained a narrow majority in the House, McDaniel faced a tough re-election bid against conservative attorney Harmeet Dhillon. McDaniel ultimately secured a victory, with 111 RNC casting their ballots in her support and 51 votes going for her opposition.

The 2023 victory made her the longest-serving RNC chair since the Civil War, as reported by PBS News. However, this historic achievement has not appeased critics on social media.

Simon Ateba, a prominent journalist, expressed skepticism about McDaniel’s leadership on Twitter. “Based on the thousands of comments received, no one believes Ronna McDaniel … can win any election for the @GOP. So, why is she leading the party ahead of 2024?” he remarked. “I’m confused!”

Miranda Devine, an outspoken author and New York Post columnist, expressed frustration over McDaniel’s salary, calling it “aggravating.” Anonymous Twitter user “ProudArmyBrat” chimed in, criticizing McDaniel’s salary increase, contrasting it with grassroots activists like Scott Presler.

Specifically, she alleged, “Worthless RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel, has tripled her salary in the past 3 years! She makes $410,000 a year to do nothing! Meanwhile, our REAL fighter, Scott Presler, gets paid 0, and is still waiting to be approved for ‘subscriptions!’”

Political commentator Gunter Eagleman echoed those sentiments, adding that, “GOP chair Ronna McDaniel makes $410,000.00 a year. @ScottPresler makes $0.00 a year. Who works harder for the GOP?  Time for change.”
