Senior FBI Official Retaliated against Subordinates for Cooperating in IG Investigation

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) The Justice Department’s Inspector General released a report this week, finding that a senior FBI official retaliated against bureau employees who cooperated in an IG investigation of the official.

“The OIG investigation found that the senior official engaged in retaliation, in violation of FBI policy, by making statements about suing employees who the senior official believed provided negative information about the senior official in the earlier OIG investigation, and about getting back at one employee for their prior OIG testimony,” Inspector General said Wednesday.

The IG investigation also found that the senior official engaged in unprofessional conduct by making those statements, by discussing with FBI employees the fact that they were being asked to provide testimony to the IG in that earlier investigation, and by seeking information about that testimony.

The IG report didn’t name the official or identify the previous investigation that led to the retaliation.

The FBI official reportedly agreed to be interviewed once about the matter, but then retired before he or she could be interviewed again. The IG has the power to compel interviews from active employees only.

The IG has provided its report to the FBI for “appropriate action.”

Retaliation over whistleblowing activities has been commonplace within the FBI for decades. Conservatives have been paying more attention to it due to top agents suppressing information about the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill investigation.

An anonymous FBI whistleblower went to Congress in June with allegations that FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate threatened anyone who disagreed with him on the matter.

According to the whistleblower, the FBI’s deputy director “told the audience that anyone who questions the FBI’s response or his decisions regarding the response to January 6th did not belong in the FBI and should find a different job.”

Abbate also told all special agents in charge that “if they had an employee that did not agree, the SACs could have that employee call [him] personally and he would set them straight.” Special agents in charge, or SACs, are the leaders of the respective FBI field offices around the country.

The whistleblower, a 15-year FBI veteran, said he had observed hundreds of teleconferences with senior FBI officials but had never “seen a direct threat like that any other time.”

More recently, the FBI raided the home of a whistleblower who claims that his bosses prevented him from investigating Rudy Giuliani.

Imprisoned Infowars Host Held in Solitary Confinement, Prevented from Speaking to Attorney

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Infowars host Owen Shroyer, who is serving a 60-day prison sentence for his peaceful activities on Jan. 6, 2021, is reportedly being held in solitary confinement and prevented from speaking to his attorney, according to this supporters.

Shroyer’s Twitter account said on Wednesday that he’ll remain in solitary until Nov. 28.

“Despite 23 hours a day of lockdown, he remains in good spirits,” the account said.

Shroyer’s account also explained why he was blocked from speaking to his lawyer.

“Unbelievably, FCI Oakdale claimed that Owen’s attorney was an imposter trying to gain access, which is why his legal call (which is allowed during solitary confinement so long as it’s pre-arranged with the facility) was denied for nearly a week. This is highly unusual behavior,” the account said on Thursday.

“With that said, the issue is now resolved, and the phone call is taking place tomorrow morning, according to his attorney.”

Shroyer was initially charged in August 2021 with disorderly conduct and entering a restricted area of Capitol grounds. He entered a deal with the Justice Department in June to plead guilty to the trespass charge.

Prosecutors then argued that the misdemeanor charge should result in jail time for Shroyer.

Even though prosecutors didn’t present evidence that Shroyer explicitly told protestors to enter the Capitol—unlike J6 provocateur Ray Epps, who has yet to be charged—his words lathered up the crowd into a frenzy, the DOJ argued.

“The events of January 6th did not happen in a bubble; individuals like Shroyer stoked the fires of discontent with the outcome of the 2020 Presidential election online, driving a mob of individuals to descend on Washington, D.C. on January 6th,” argued Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly Paschall.

“Shroyer cannot light a fire near a can of gasoline, and then express concern or disbelief when it explodes.”

Instead of scolding DOJ prosecutors for seeking to imprison a journalist for First Amendment-protected activity, a federal judge granted their request—sentencing Shroyer to 60 days in jail.

Shroyer did recently receive a bit of good news. According to his Twitter account, his release date has been moved up to Dec. 18, so he should be home for the holidays.

Another One: Saturday’s Austin Shooter Was on FBI Terrorism Watch List

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) The gunman who allegedly killed two hostages and a Texas SWAT officer last Saturday had previously been investigated by the FBI and placed on its terrorism watch list, according to The Daily Mail.

Citing unnamed law enforcement sources, The Daily Mail reported Wednesday that the FBI investigated members of the shooter’s family before Saturday’s killings.

The dead reportedly included SWAT officer Jorge Pastore, as well as mother Eman Ahmed El Nemr-Nassar and her two sons, Ahmed Mohamed Nassar, 35, and Riad Mohamed Nassar, 32. It’s reportedly still not clear which of the sons was the shooter.

According to reports, a woman ‘screaming for help’ called 911 in Austin at 2:49 a.m. on Saturday to say she had been stabbed and two other people were still trapped in the home.

“As Pastore and other SWAT members made entry, they were also met with heavy gunfire,” The Daily Mail reported.

“Pastore, 38, was killed and a second officer was wounded. Police fired back, killing the gunman. The bodies of two other victims and the suspect were found inside.”

While it appears to be a domestic incident rather than a planned act of terrorism, Saturday’s deadly event nevertheless marks the latest shooting involving a suspect that was already being monitored by the FBI.

An anonymous internet researcher who posts under the handle “Boltzmann Booty” has determined that the nation’s premiere law enforcement agency has monitored, but failed to stop, mass shooters before they go on their sprees at least 22 times.

Prominent examples of mass shooters who were on the FBI’s “radar” include Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza, Orlando Pulse nightclub shooter Omar Mateen and Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz.

In Lanza’s case, FBI agents had reportedly previously questioned him for hacking computers.

With Orlando shooter Mateen, the FBI reportedly went as far as investigating him in direct relation to possibly being a terrorist threat—twice. “But the F.B.I. soon ended its examination of Mr. Mateen after finding no evidence that he posed a terrorist threat to his community,” the New York Times reported in June 2016.

In his research, Booty noted another anomaly with Mateen: His father was an FBI informant for more than a decade, as was reported by NPR in March 2018.

Then, there’s Parkland. Booty’s research linked to a 2018 New York Times report that “The F.B.I. received a tip last month from someone close to Nikolas Cruz that he owned a gun and had talked of committing a school shooting, the bureau revealed Friday, but it acknowledged that it had failed to investigate.”

Additionally, Booty’s research covers Buffalo shooter Payton Gendron, who reportedly was possibly communicating with a retired federal agent within as little as 30 minutes of his killing spree. Gendron’s possible links to a retired federal agent are more bizarre when coupled with a July 2019 story from the Buffalo News about FBI agents tracking potential mass shooters in the area.

NYC Defunds Police to Pay for Illegal Alien’s Lux Hotels, Perks

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) New York City Mayor Eric Adams set the city abuzz with controversy after announcing an abrupt halt in the hiring of police officers due to a budget cut triggered by an unexpected surge in illegal aliens draining the city’s social services.

The mayor revealed a contentious plan that will scale down the NYPD’s force to a low of 29,000 officers by the end of 2025. This reduction hasn’t been witnessed since the 1990s, as reported by the New York Post.

Specifically, the plan consists of gutting the upcoming five police academy classes, effectively barring New Yorkers from the chance to serve their city.

Shockingly, the city is bracing for a loss of approximately 4,500 officers within the next 18 months. Even the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) faces significant cuts under this plan.

The decision to slash the police force stems from the overwhelming influx of illegal aliens flooding the city. These individuals have been accommodated under the city’s taxpayer-funded right-to-shelter law, obtaining temporary residence in hotels, some of which are located within the upscale midtown neighborhoods of Manhattan.

City Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli, a Republican, condemned the move, likening it to the controversial “defund the police” movement, tied to extremist left-wing groups.

“The defund the police crowd’s woke dream has come true. We were fed a line of BS that the wave of migrants would be a benefit to the city. Now we are defunding the police to pay for their beds,” Borelli expressed in frustration, according to the NY Post.

Andrew Ansbro, president of the fire department’s union, also voiced concerns about the budget cut’s impact.

“Our job being dangerous, we have lot of members who getting physical injured … now they are being pushed out the door to early retirement when they have a lot to offer. They are cutting back on people who really help the safety of FDNY and residents of New York City,” Ansbro emphasized.

‘It Happened’: Kamala Stung by Question on VP Selection Based on Her Race

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Vice President Kamala Harris struggled to answer questions during an interview where she was probed about the assumption that her selection as Joe Biden’s running mate was primarily due to her race.

Astead Herndon, a reporter from the New York Times, posed the probing question during Thursday podcast, triggering a moment of confusion from Harris.

“[Biden] came to the decision that he needed to choose a Black woman,” Herndon said, as reported by Fox News.

“While that is obviously about you, it’s not necessarily you personally, but your identity. How should it matter, does it matter that that narrative has existed, that Biden needed to choose someone who was a black person, and should it matter?” he asked.

Harris claimed she did not comprehend the question, but Herndon repeated the question.

“Does it matter that, that kind of narrative around Biden needed to choose a black woman as a running mate still exists and has hovered over that selection?” he asked, but Harris appeared to dismiss the assertion.

“It happened,” she said, laughing. “I don’t think, I honestly don’t understand your question. Has it lingered?”

“He chose a Black woman, that woman is me, so I don’t know that anything lingers about what he should choose. He has chosen, he asked me to join him on the ticket,” she added, before urging the reporter to “move on.”

The selection process for Biden’s running mate garnered contentious attention during the 2020 presidential election.

Biden appeared to commit to choosing a woman as his running mate. Notable Democrats like former Rep. Karen Bass, Susan Rice, Gretchen Whitmer and Elizabeth Warren were among those considered for the role.

Ultimately, Biden tapped Harris, who herself attempted to clinch the Democratic nomination for president in 2020.

The interview, conducted by the NY Times in August in Chicago for a podcast, was only recently released, as reported by Fox News.

Special Counsel Smith Seeks to Have Trump’s Gag Order Reinstated

(Eli Pacheco, Headline USA) Special counsel Jack Smith filed court papers on Tuesday to reinstate a gag order against President Donald Trump after the order, imposed by District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan was suspended last week by a Washington, D.C., appeals court

Smith cited the former president’s public criticism of the case and those associated with it as the reason for needing to silence the former president.

The gag order “is weaponry all being done because Joe Biden is losing the election and losing very, very badly to all of us in the polls,” Trump said at a recent rally in Iowa.

The order blocks Trump from speaking against Smith, his team, court staff, and potential witnesses. The partial gag order does not bar him from criticizing the Justice Department.

Legal experts, including constitutional law scholar Jonathan Turley, have pointed out that the order could potentially be seen as an overly broad way to block Trump from defending himself on the campaign trail given the long—and rather vague—list of potential witnesses. Those include:

Also, the order doesn’t cover Chutkan, whom former President Barack Obama appointed to the bench.

Trump could face home detention or incarceration for violating Chutkan’s order. Less severe punishment could include warnings and fines.

Trump’s attorneys argued that the order violated his First Amendment right to free speech, calling it “sweepingly overbroad.” T

In their petition to the appeals court, they said:

“President Trump’s viewpoint and modes of expression resonate powerfully with tens of millions of Americans. The prosecution’s request for a gag order bristles with hostility to President Trump’s viewpoint and his relentless criticism of the government—including of the prosecution itself.”

Court filings to reinstate the ban cited Trump’s comments during campaign rallies. They also mentioned his posts on Truth Social.

“Deranged Jack Smith, Andrew Weissmann, Lisa Monaco, the ‘team of losers and misfits’ from CREW, and all the rest of the Radical Left Zealots and Thugs who have been working illegally for years to ‘take me down,’ will end up, because of their suffering from a horrible disease, TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME (TDS!), in a Mental Institution by the time my next term as President is successfully completed,” he posted on Truth Social on Monday.

Smith’s filings also cited a speech Trump gave in Claremont, N.H., on Nov. 11. Trump called Smith “deranged” and a “Trump-hating prosecutor.”

Trump’s legal team said they would take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary, arguing there was no evidence Trump’s social media posts intimidated anyone. The appeals court is set to hear oral arguments on the gag order on Nov. 20.

The current GOP frontrunner for president in 2024 faces 91 indictments in four separate criminal trials, as well as a civil trial in which New York’s attorney general hopes to seize many of his financial assets.

In a separate court ruling Wednesday, an appeals court judge overturned partisan New York Judge Arthur Engoron’s gag order in that trial, noting it was highly unusual for a judge in a civil trial to impose such a measure since the purpose of them was to prevent juries in criminal trials from being unduly influenced.

Trump has denied doing any wrong in these cases and has called them part of a “witch hunt” to keep him from re-election.

Trump leads polls for the 2024 Republican primaries. FiveThirtyEight cites a 58.9% share of votes, 44.6 points ahead of Florida Go. Ron DeSantis.

Trump will face trial in March 2024 for charges of conspiracy to overturn presidential election results in 2020.

Leftist TikTok Users Tout Osama Bin Laden’s Post-9/11 ‘Letter to America’

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) A wave of controversy has surged across social media as a handful of TikTok users shared excerpts from a letter penned by Osama bin Laden, the terrorist leader who led the Sept. 11 terrorist attack.

The letter, which was released as a failed attempt to justify Al-Qaeda’s heinous attacks on American soil, has resurfaced with leftist users on TikTok claiming they sympathize with the terrorist leader.

Garnering a staggering 14 million views, these posts quickly caught the attention of critics and even the White House.

TikTok swiftly responded, stating that the posts violated the platform’s policy against promoting terrorism, as reported by CNN on Thursday. A spokesperson for the company acknowledged the violation while underscoring the limited number of videos involved.

The resurgence of bin Laden’s letter coincided with ongoing protests and unrest stemming from the U.S.’s stance on the recent conflict in the Middle East involving Israel and Hamas

Videos shared on various platforms showed individuals referencing bin Laden’s claims linking the 9/11 attacks to U.S. actions in “Palestine.”

In one instance, a New York-based influencer encouraged their followers to read the letter, claiming that it changed her view on the U.S.

“If you have read it, let me know if you are also going through an existential crisis in this very moment, because in the last 20 minutes, my entire viewpoint on the entire life I have believed, and I have lived, has changed,” the individual said.

Another user equated the U.S. government to the terrorist leader. “If we’re going to call Osama bin Laden a terrorist, so is the American government,” the person said.

In response the viral videos, Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., condemned the young Americans’ ignorance over Sept. 11.

“Many are concerned 9/11 is becoming a distant memory. Today, Osama Bin Laden’s letter justifying the attack is going viral on TikTok. WE WILL NEVER FORGET the innocent victims, heroic first responders & everyday Americans who stepped-up for their fellow man on that fateful day,” he said on Twitter.

Even the White House weighed in on the matter, condemning the videos and the justification of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack.

“There is never a justification for spreading the repugnant, evil, and antisemitic lies that the leader of al Qaeda issued just after committing the worst terrorist attack in American history – highlighting them as his direct motivation for murdering 2,977 innocent Americans,” a spokesperson said.

The Guardian, which reportedly published the letter, opted to take it down in response to the viral videos, users on Twitter said.

Feud Between Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro, Candace Owens Intensifies over Israel

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) A feud between Daily Wire co-founder, podcast host and Orthodox Jew Ben Shapiro and fellow host Candace Owens over their religious differences regarding the conflict between Israel and Hamas continued to escalate Wednesday, raising questions about Owens’s future at the company.

The spat appeared to have been brewing for quite some time over the Twittersphere, but it went public in a big way with a viral video on Tuesday, in which Shapiro slammed the Blexit founder for her “faux sophistication.”

“I think her behavior during this has been disgraceful, without a doubt,” Shapiro said.

“I think that her faux sophistication on these particular issues has been ridiculous,” he continued. “Everybody can see the moves that she’s making and the things that she’s saying and I find them disreputable.”

Shapiro’s statements visibly shocked some of the members of the crowd, according to Trending Politics News.

Owens initially posted a tweet on Nov. 3 condemning the initial attack on Israel.

She followed it up on her show, stating that American government should not get involved in the conflict and generally reproached the act of genocide.

Some argued that Owens accused Israel of genocide in this post, lighting the initial spark of a fiery feud and leading to Shapiro’s comments.

Owens’ initially reacted to the video by posting the Beatitudes from the gospel of Matthew.

Replying to the post, Shapiro encouraged Owens to leave the Daily Wire.

She replied by stating that he acted “unprofessional and emotionally unhinged” when addressing the Israel conflict, and made it clear she would have no more of it.

Owens reacted to the interaction in an appearance on the “Tucker on X” show, explaining that she saw the video when everyone else did and had not heard from Shapiro at the time of filming.

She also refused to respond to the content of the video, stating that she did not know exactly what Shapiro referred to and did not want to resort needlessly to ad hominem attacks against her employer before slipping in a subtle dig.

“If that was me that was caught on a video saying that about colleagues that I work with I would be embarrassed, so I think that the video speaks more to Ben’s character than it does to mine,” she said.

She also explained that she and Shapiro disagreed on several other hot-button political topics in the past and she is not too concerned about the difference in opinion.

Owens appears to still work at the Daily Wire, as Shapiro does not have direct involvement in leadership anymore.

She did remove any mention of the company from her Twitter profile, leading to increased speculation.

Christian NBA Player Announces Basketball Shoes w/ Bible Verses

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) A Christian NBA player Jonathan Isaac who became famous after he refused to kneel for the U.S. national anthem during the 2020 BLM insanity announced on Monday the arrival of “the first basketball sneaker with visible Bible verses.”

Isaac revealed in his announcement that the new signature shoe would be called “Judah 1.”

“Most people see the ‘Judah 1’ as an outlandish endeavor… shoot, when we first started, so did I. I was afraid that delivering a sneaker that represented our values without compromising style or performance was too tall a task. But here we are! The first basketball sneaker with visible Bible verses becomes available in Just 3 days!” Isaac said.

He also added that a person who wants to buy himself a pair would need to sign up at the link in his “bio” on Twitter to be notified as soon as the sneakers would be available.

“To live boldly means standing up for what you believe in,” Isaac said in the ad.

He then added that he wanted to “give people the freedom to wear their values on their feet.”

“Making a decision to be authentically you, no matter what anybody has to say about it, no matter what anybody thinks, no matter what you may face or come up against,” Isaac said.

After that, he described the show itself.

“This is the first basketball sneaker with a visible Bible verse on the outside. And I tried my best to come up with Bible verses that were important to me and spoke to my journey and spoke to who I am as an individual,” Isaac said, returning to his Christian message after that.

“Understanding that Christ is with me and I’m never alone gives me the strength to live boldly. I can’t wait to lace ’em up. And I’ll be saying to myself 2nd Corinthians 4:9. It says, ‘Persecuted but not abandoned. Struck down but not destroyed.’ And I’ll walk on that court,” he said.

Santos Won’t Seek Reelection after Scathing Ethics Report

(Headline USA) The House Ethics Committee in a scathing report Thursday said it had amassed “overwhelming evidence” of lawbreaking by Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., that has been sent to the Justice Department, concluding flatly that he “cannot be trusted” after a monthslong investigation into his conduct.

Shortly after the panel’s report was released, Santos blasted it in a tweet as a “disgusting politicized smear” but said he would not be seeking reelection to a second term.

He gave no indication, however, that he would step aside before his term ends, vowing to pursue his “conservative values in my remaining time in Congress.”

But a renewed effort to expel him from the House was quickly launched. The House could vote on his expulsion as soon as it returns from the Thanksgiving holiday later this month.

That may renew calls from Republicans that Democrats do the same for Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., the former chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who stepped down from that role after federal indictments on a litany of damning charges but remains in office.

Several Senate Democrats issued tepid, obligatory calls for him to resign but have not forcefully pursued the matter as yet.

The House ethics panel said that Santos—a freshman lawmaker and one of the first openly gay Republicans in Congress—knowingly caused his campaign committee to file false or incomplete reports with the Federal Election Commission, used campaign funds for personal purposes and violated the Ethics in Government Act concerning financial disclosure statements filed with the House.

“Representative Santos sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit,” an investigative subcommittee said in a 56-page report that the full committee unanimously adopted.

Raj Shah, a spokesman for House Speaker Mike Johnson, said that Johnson reviewed the report “and its very troubling findings.” Shah’s statement stopped short of any specific recommendation about punishment. Before an earlier expulsion vote, Johnson said Santos was entitled to due process and voted no.

“As members from both parties, members of the Ethics Committee and Representative Santos return to Congress after the Thanksgiving break, Speaker Johnson encourages all involved to consider the best interests of the institution as this matter is addressed further,” Shah said.

The report also detailed Santos’s lack of cooperation with its investigation and said he “evaded” straightforward requests for information. “Particularly troubling was Representative Santos’ lack of candor during the investigation itself,” the committee determined.

The panel tasked with investigating the allegations against Santos provided him the chance to submit a signed, written statement, provide documents responsive to the panel’s request for information and to provide a statement under oath. But he did not do so, the report said.

The information that he did provide, according to the committee, “included material misstatements that further advanced falsehoods he made during his 2022 campaign.”

The committee’s investigative panel said that without Santos’s cooperation, it was unable to verify whether some expenses reported by his campaign were legitimate. But certain expenses on their face did not appear to have a campaign nexus.

For example, it cited $2,281 spent at resorts in Atlantic City and $1,400 spent at a skin spa for what one spreadsheet described as “Botox.”

The panel also identified a $3,332 expense for a hotel stay, though the campaign’s calendar indicated he was “off at the Hampton’s for the weekend.”

Additionally, there were tax and hotel charges on the campaign credit card from Las Vegas, during a time Santos told his campaign staff he was on his honeymoon and there were no corresponding campaign events on the calendar.

The investigation also looked into at least $200,000 that was transferred from a Florida-based company, RedStone Strategies LLC, to Santos’s personal bank accounts.

The report said at least three people transferred money to RedStone after being told the money would be used for political purposes but the funds were transferred to Santos’s personal accounts.

Santos used some of that money to pay down credit card bills, make a $4,128 purchase at high-end retailer Hermes, and for smaller purchases at OnlyFans, an adult content website, Sephora and meals and parking, investigators said.

The Ethics Committee determined that Santos’s conduct “warrants public condemnation, is beneath the dignity of the office, and has brought severe discredit upon the House.”

The findings by the investigative panel may be the least of Santos’s worries. The congressman faces a 23-count federal indictment that alleges he stole the identities of campaign donors and then used their credit cards to make tens of thousands of dollars in unauthorized charges.

Federal prosecutors say Santos, who has pleaded not guilty, wired some of the money to his personal bank account and used the rest to pad his campaign coffers.

Santos, who represents parts of Queens and Long Island, is also accused of falsely reporting to the Federal Election Commission that he had loaned his campaign $500,000 when he actually hadn’t given anything and had less than $8,000 in the bank.

The fake loan was an attempt to convince Republican Party officials that he was a serious candidate, worth their financial support, the indictment says.

The Justice Department declined to comment about the ethics report, as did the Brooklyn U.S. attorney’s office, which is handling the case against Santos.

Earlier this week, a former fundraiser for Santos pleaded guilty to a federal wire fraud charge, admitting he impersonated a high-ranking congressional aide while raising campaign cash for the embattled New York Republican.

Santos easily survived a vote earlier this month to expel him from the House as most Republicans and 31 Democrats opted to withhold punishment while both his criminal trial and the Ethics Committee investigation continued. But the committee’s report could prove to be a game-changer.

Rep. Susan Wild, for example, the ranking Democrat on the Ethics Committee, said she was no longer obligated to maintain neutrality because the committee’s work is now complete.

“I intend to vote yes on any privileged expulsion resolution that is brought forward,” Wild said.

Rep. Jeff Jackson of North Carolina, one of the Democratic lawmakers who voted against expelling Santos earlier this month, said Santos has now received due process.

“This report is fully damning,” he tweeted. “I will vote to expel him.”

And Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., who also voted no on the latest expulsion vote, said it’s not enough for Santos to say he won’t seek reelection.

“He should immediately resign or be expelled so his constituents can be represented by someone who isn’t a fraud,” Malliotakis said.

Expulsion, the sternest form of punishment, has occurred just five times in the history of the House—three times during the Civil War for disloyalty to the Union and twice after convictions on federal charges, most recently in 2002. Two-thirds of the House would have to vote to expel Santos for the resolution to pass.

If Santos were to be expelled, it would narrow the GOP’s already thin majority in the House, which now stands at 221-213. But many of his Republican colleagues from New York support booting Santos from the House as they seek to distance themselves from his actions.

Democrats have long chafed over Santos’s presence in the House not only because of his status as a flamboyant gay Republican, but also because he flipped a long-held blue district, representing one of the few Republican races that succeeded in doing so in an otherwise disappointing 2022 election cycle where a “red wave” had been projected.

Even had Santos not opened himself up to scandal, he undoubtedly would have been a top target of the Justice Department and other weaponized institutions within the Biden political apparatus as they seek to reclaim the House in 2024.

While Santos now says he won’t seek reelection, his campaign was already woefully short on resources and candidates from both parties were scrambling at the chance to challenge him. Campaign records show he had about $28,000 on hand at the end of the fundraising quarter ending Sept. 30, an incredibly small sum for an incumbent.
