15 AGs Allege Bank of America Using ‘Discriminatory’ Banking Practices

(Chris Woodward, The Center Square) – A coalition of 15 Republican attorneys general want Bank of America to correct what the law officers are calling “debanking practices.”

In a letter sent this week to Bank of America Chairman and CEO Brian Moynihan, the attorneys general, led by Kansas’s Kris Kobach, wrote that Bank of America “appears to be conditioning access to its services on customers having the bank’s preferred religious or political views.”

The letter goes on the claim the bank has “denied services to gun manufacturers, distributors, and sellers, fossil fuel producers, contractors for U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and private prisons and related services.”

In terms of religious organizations, the attorneys general said “Bank of America has also canceled the accounts of multiple religious groups with mainstream views in the last three years.” As a result, the group wrote that it is “no exaggeration to say that Bank of America is responsible for some of the worst-known instances of debanking.”

In addition to Kobach, attorneys general from Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Virginia signed the letter.

“Your discriminatory behavior is a serious threat to free speech and religious freedom, is potentially illegal, and is causing political and regulatory backlash,” the attorneys general told Bank of America. “Your bank needs to be transparent with and assure us, its shareholders, and others that it will not continue to de-bank customers for their speech or religious exercise.”

The attorneys general gave Bank of America 30 days to provide a written report about their policies and practices, update terms of service, participate in the Alliance Defending Freedom’s Viewpoint Diversity Score Business Index, and support shareholder proposals protecting religious and political diversity.

“We commend Attorney General Kobach and his colleagues for taking bold, appropriate action to put customers first and hold Bank of America accountable on these crucial issues,” said ADF Senior Counsel and Senior Vice President of Corporate Engagement Jeremy Tedesco in a press release.

“Bank of America needs to rebuild trust with its shareholders and customers.”

Multiple Bills Introduced in Congress to Defund NPR

(Sarah Roderic-Fitch, The Center Square) – Several U.S. House Republicans introduced multiple pieces of legislation to defund National Public Radio following new allegations of “leftist propaganda” from the taxpayer-funded news source.

House Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good, R-Va., Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., and Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., introduced similar legislation to prohibit federal funding for NPR, including barring local public radio stations from utilizing money from federal grants to “purchase content or pay dues to NPR.”

Over the years, Republicans have made multiple attempts to defund NPR, citing similar complaints. The latest outrage follows an editorial from former NPR Editor Uri Berliner, who criticized the news source claiming it had “lost America’s trust.”

Berliner criticized NPR’s coverage of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, the COVID-19 lab leak theory and of Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop as examples of the outlet’s left-leaning bias. He described “the most damaging development at NPR: the absence of viewpoint diversity.”

Banks took aim at NPR’s new Chief Executive Officer Katherine Maher, who has expressed criticism of the First Amendment in efforts to combat “misinformation.”

“NPR’s new CEO is a radical, left-wing activist who doesn’t believe in free speech or objective journalism. Hoosiers shouldn’t be writing her paychecks. Katherine Maher isn’t qualified to teach an introductory journalism class, much less capable of responsibly spending millions of American tax dollars,” said Banks.

The Indiana congressman continued by describing the news outlet as a “liberal looney bin” under prior leadership, drawing attention to a systemic problem.

“It’s time to pull the plug on this national embarrassment. Congress must stop spending other people’s hard-earned money on low grade propaganda,” Banks lamented.

Good was a bit more reserved in his take-down of the news outlet.

“It is bad enough that so many media outlets push their slanted views instead of reporting the news, but it is even more egregious for hardworking taxpayers to be forced to pay for it. National Public Radio has a track record of promoting anti-American narratives on the taxpayer dime,” Good said in a news release. “My legislation would ensure no taxpayer dollars are used to fund the woke, leftist propaganda of National Public Radio.”

Tenney, a former newspaper owner and publisher, accused NPR of using taxpayer funds to “manipulate” and promote a political agenda controlled by “left-wing activists.”

“I understand the importance of non-partisan, balanced media coverage, and have seen first-hand the left-wing bias in our news media. These disturbing reports out of NPR confirm what many have known for a long time: NPR is using American taxpayer dollars to manipulate the news and lie to the American people on behalf of a political agenda. It’s past time the American people stop footing the bill for NPR, and the partisan, left-wing activists that control it,” Tenney said in a news release.

The lawmakers cited the political make-up of the NPR’s D.C. news team, which they say includes 87 registered Democrats and no registered Republicans.

The Center Square uncovered records showing that Maher exclusively donated to Democratic political candidates before her role at NPR. Her largest donation of $1,500 was given to Virginia Congressman Tom Perriello in 2017, and most frequently donated to Virginia state Sen. Jennifer Carroll Foy, in the amounts of $25 over nine times.

Good underscored the original purpose for the publicly funded news outlet, which he says was “created to be an educational news source and to ‘speak with many voices.’” He added that NPR has now become “a primary outlet for advancing biased and radical media coverage of political and social issues.”

SCOTUS to Hear Case About Banning Homeless Camps

(Headline USA) The most significant case in decades on homelessness has reached the Supreme Court as record numbers of people in America are without a place to live.

The justices on Monday will consider a challenge to rulings from a California-based appeals court that found punishing people for sleeping outside when shelter space is lacking amounts to unconstitutional cruel and unusual punishment.

Public officials in the West and California, home to nearly one-third of the nation’s homeless population, argue those decisions have restricted them from common sense measures intended to keep homeless encampments from taking over public parks and sidewalks.

Advocacy groups say the decisions provide essential legal protections, especially with an increasing number of people forced to sleep outdoors as the cost of housing soars.

The case before the Supreme Court comes from Grants Pass, a small city nestled in the mountains of southern Oregon, where rents are rising and there is just one overnight shelter for adults. As a growing number of tents clustered its parks, the city banned camping and set $295 fines for people sleeping there.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals largely blocked the camping ban under its finding that it is unconstitutional to punish people for sleeping outside when there is not adequate shelter space. Grants Pass appealed to the Supreme Court, arguing the ruling left it few good options.

“It really has made it impossible for cities to address growing encampments, and they’re unsafe, unhealthy and problematic for everyone, especially those who are experiencing homelessness,” said lawyer Theane Evangelis, who is representing Grants Pass.

The city is also challenging a 2018 decision, known as Martin v. Boise, that first barred camping bans when shelter space is lacking. It was issued by the San Francisco-based 9th Circuit and applies to the nine Western states in its jurisdiction. The Supreme Court declined to take up a different challenge to the ruling in 2019, before the solidification of its current conservative majority.

If the decision is overturned, advocates say it would make it easier for cities deal with homelessness by arresting and fining people rather than helping them get shelter and housing.

The case comes after homelessness in the United States grew by 12%, to its highest reported level as soaring rents and a decline in coronavirus pandemic assistance combined to put housing out of reach for more people, according to federal data. Four in 10 people experiencing homelessness sleep outside, a federal report found.

San Francisco says it has been blocked from enforcing camping regulations because the city does not have enough shelter space for its full homeless population, something it estimates would cost $1.5 billion to provide.

“These encampments frequently block sidewalks, prevent employees from cleaning public thoroughfares, and create health and safety risks for both the unhoused and the public at large,” lawyers for the city wrote. City workers have also encountered knives, drug dealing and belligerent people at encampments, they said.

The Justice Department also backed the idea that people shouldn’t be punished for sleeping outside when they have no where else to go, but said the Grants Pass ruling should be tossed out because 9th Circuit went awry by not defining what it means to be “involuntarily homeless.”

Evangelis, the lawyer for Grants Pass, argues that the Biden administration’s position would not solve the problem for the Oregon city. “It would be impossible for cities to really address the homelessness crisis,” she said.

The Supreme Court is expected to rule by the end of June.

MURDOCK: Trump’s NYC Trial Makes Big Apple Ripe for Picking

(Deroy Murdock, Headline USA) President Donald J. Trump’s so-called hush-money trial will trap him in Judge Juan Merchan’s Manhattan courtroom every weekday but Wednesdays for the foreseeable future. Democrats have plotted to keep Trump off the campaign trail. He should crush their dreams and spend weeknights courting Northeastern voters.

Trump previewed this strategy at the Sanaa Convenient Store at Broadway and West 139th Street in Harlem, deep inside the 13th Congressional District.

The Census Bureau describes NY-13 as 53.4% Hispanic, 25.3% black, and just 18.8% white. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index of D+38, this is New York State’s most Democrat congressional district. This seemed like the last place Trump dare venture.

But when he did so on Tuesday evening, a warm crowd cheered, “USA! USA! USA!” and “We love Trump!” Chants of “Four more years!” erupted before these Manhattanites burst into “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Trump snapped photos with voters, shook their hands, and answered journalists’ questions.

Trump visited the bodega where ex-con Austin Simon attacked store clerk Jose Alba in July 2022, while fighting over a bag of chips. As Simon’s girlfriend, Tina Lee, stabbed Alba, he fatally knifed Simon in self-defense.

Trump’s tormentor, far-Left Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, jailed Alba (a novelty for the pro-criminal prosecutor) and charged him with second-degree murder.

After New Yorkers revolted, Bragg exculpated Alba, who decamped to the Dominican Republic.

“You have to stop crime, and we’re going to let the police do their job,” Trump said. “They have to be given back their authority.”

Harlemites captured these scenes on their cell phones and shared them with friends and loved ones who vote in New York and beyond. News cameras broadcast these images across America.

Trump achieved this triumph without leaving Manhattan.

Here is how Trump can duplicate this model every evening after Merchan adjourns his trial:

  • Return to upper Manhattan to see the Harlem Educational Activities Fund. This civil-society gem enriches low-income, inner-city students, 100% of whom graduate high school and enter college. Trump should highlight HEAF as a model for private-sector minority uplift.
  • Ride to Brooklyn to tour the Chabad Lubavitch Headquarters. Surrounded by Orthodox Jews, Trump could reaffirm his stalwart support for Israel and solidarity with the Jewish people.
  • Cruise to the Bronx to enjoy a burger at a local diner and then catch a Yankees game.
  • Step onto Staten Island, the Big Apple’s GOP stronghold. Local Republican Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis could re-introduce Trump to the voters who handed him a 56.9% to 42% victory over Joe Biden in Richmond County.
  • Journey to Nassau and Suffolk counties, both run by Republicans. Trump could rally fans and comfort survivors of those murdered by MS-13’s homicidal illegal aliens.

A convincing margin on GOP-trending Long Island and a commanding lead in pro-Trump Upstate would give Trump two of three ingredients to clinch the Empire State.

The third: Get beaten but not bludgeoned in NYC. If Trump mirrors 2022 Republican gubernatorial nominee Lee Zeldin’s performance outside Gotham and secures 40.8%, rather than Zeldin’s 30.2% in The City, Trump could take New York State.

Add RFK Jr. to the ballot, subtract demoralized Democrats who stay home and sulk, and New York’s 28 Electoral College votes could be Trump’s.

Probable? No.

Plausible? Suddenly, Yes.

  • Trump’s helicopter could whisk him to Pennsylvania’s (19 electoral votes) Bucks County and the posh Main Line. He could tell suburbanites his proposals to stop squatters, slash crime, and sandbag Biden’s plans to force high-rise apartments into bedroom communities. In Philadelphia, Trump should appeal to minority entrepreneurs, black parishioners, and parents aching for robust school choice.
  • Trump Force One could whisk him to New Hampshire (four electoral votes), to rally his troops. Granite Staters love town halls. Trump should arrange them, so voters could see him up close and on local and national TV.
  • As the trial adjourns at mid-week, Trump should fly on Tuesday evenings and spend Wednesdays in Virginia (13 electoral votes), North Carolina (16), and Georgia (16). Trips to Michigan (15) and Wisconsin (10) would take longer. But that’s why God created jets.

Trump needs little sleep. Slumbering after events might be all the rest he needs before resuming each morning’s persecution. The kinetic, peripatetic Trump will contrast starkly against Sleepy Joe Biden, who seldom shuffles far from the White House or his Delaware mansions.

Trump’s appearances would refute the Left’s Big Lie that he “threatens democracy.” Who jeopardizes this constitutional republic, the candidate who asks Americans every evening for their votes or the Democrats desperate to imprison him?

Trump’s positive gatherings also would outshine the menacing portraits of him that prosecutors will paint from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Until this show trial ends, the days belong to New York’s injustice system. But the nights belong to Donald J. Trump.

WH Bites Back, Tells Reporters Not to Question Biden’s Cannibalism Hoax

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The White House is standing behind President Joe Biden amid the backlash ignited by the unsubstantiated claim that his uncle, Ambrose Finnegan, was eaten by cannibals in New Guinea.

On Friday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre sharply rebuked Fox News journalist Peter Doocy for pressing her on Biden’s unfounded statements regarding cannibalism, which Biden has repeated while recounting his uncle’s death in World War II.

“We should not make jokes about this,” Jean-Pierre told Doocy after he lobbed questions about why Biden is claiming, without evidence, that Finnegan was eaten by Cannibals.

As seen in a video by the Media Research Center, an undeterred Doocy pushed back, saying, “President Biden said it.”

In response, Jean-Pierre clarified: “Wait, wait—no, no. I mean—your last line is for a laugh. It’s for a funny statement. He takes this very seriously. His uncle who served and protected this country lost his life serving, and that should matter.”

In line with previous responses to other questions, Jean-Pierre brought former President Donald Trump into the conversation.

“You have a president who looks up our U.S. troops, our American veterans, who thinks about them. who actually think they’re all heroes,” she added, “and you have a former president who disrespects that, who doesn’t honor that. He said it as president: ‘suckers’ or ‘losers.’” No evidence has emerged to substantiate such claims, which were initially reported by The Atlantic.

Doocy’s inquiries stemmed from Biden’s remarks about his uncle during campaign appearances in Pennsylvania ahead of the state’s Democratic primary election.

“He got shut down in New Guinea and they never found the body because there used to be… There were a lot of cannibals in the part of New Guinea,” Biden stated, referring to his uncle, during a speech to members of the United Steelworkers union.

Biden reiterated the same assertions while addressing reporters in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

According to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, Biden’s uncle passed away on May 14, 1994, when his plane unexpectedly crashed into the ocean off the north coast of New Guinea. His body was never recovered.

FBI Watches for Threats to American Jews Ahead of Passover

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) FBI Director Christopher Wray said that the organization is monitoring for threats against Jewish Americans ahead of the Passover holiday, adding that the number was already high before Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack on Israel.

He also mentioned the FBI’s work investigating anti-Jewish crimes while speaking at an event on Apr. 17, 2024, hosted by the Secure Community Network, the largest Jewish security organization on the continent, according to The Hill.

“Today, we at the bureau remain particularly concerned that lone actors could target large gatherings, high-profile events or symbolic or religious locations for violence — particularly a concern, of course, as we look to the start of Passover on Monday evening,” he said.

The FBI’s antisemitic crime probes tripled in the three months following Oct. 7, 2023, compared with the four months before, Wray said.

“Between Oct. 7 and Jan. 30 of this year, we opened over three times more anti-Jewish hate crime investigations than in the four months before Oct. 7. And of course, that’s on top of what was already an increase from the previous year,” he said.

Additionally, he said the threats are present not only domestically but overseas as well.

“We’ve seen — since Oct. 7 – a rogues’ gallery of foreign terrorist organizations call for attacks against the United States and our allies,” he said, pointing to increased hoax threats like “bomb and active shooter threats.”

The news source reported that antisemitic incidents reached a record last year, particularly following Oct. 7., 2023.

According to an annual survey by the Anti-Defamation League, there were more than 8,800 antisemitic incidents last year, among which were harassment, vandalism and assaults.

The news source also said that the data shows a 140% spike from 2022, with around 5,200 incidents occurring after Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel.

“Antisemitism is nothing short of a national emergency, a five-alarm fire that is still raging across the country and in our local communities and campuses,” Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the ADL, said.

Convicted Cuba Spy Admits His Anti-American Radicalization in Colleges, Universities

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) A former U.S. ambassador to Bolivia who was recently sentenced to 15 years in federal prison admitted that he became a spy for communist Cuba because he was politically radicalized when he was getting his education in American colleges and universities.

Victor Manuel Rocha, who has been arrested and convicted as a spy for the Cuban government, recently said that his education at American universities made him a far-left radical.

In a statement to a federal judge on Apr. 12, 2024, 73-year-old Rocha wrote that during his “formative years in college,” he was “heavily influenced by the radical politics of the day.”

“My deep commitment at that time to radical social change in the region led me to the eventual betrayal of my oath of loyalty to the United States during my two decades in the State Department,” Rocha wrote.

Rocha received his B.A. from Yale University in 1973. He also received two master’s degrees: from Harvard University in 1976 and Georgetown University in 1978.

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Apr. 12, 2024, for his acts of espionage against the United States on behalf of communist Cuba.

According to Campus Reform, U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom, who sentenced Rocha, referred to him as an “enemy” of the United States and fined him $500,000.

“This action exposes one of the highest-reaching and longest-lasting infiltrations of the United States government by a foreign agent. We allege that for over 40 years, Victor Manuel Rocha served as an agent of the Cuban government and sought out and obtained positions within the United States government that would provide him with access to non-public information and the ability to affect U.S. foreign policy,” Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said.

Rocha “consistently [referred] to the United States as ‘the enemy,’ and [used] the term ‘we’ to describe himself and Cuba,” the Justice Department said.

From 2000 to 2002, Rocha served as ambassador to Bolivia under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Additionally, from 1991 to 1994, he served as the Director for Inter-American Affairs for the National Security Council.

Planned Parenthood Performed More Abortions Despite Patient Decrease

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report revealed that the baby-murdering organization performed more abortions in 2021 and 2022, even though there was a massive decrease in patients.

PP reported that it performed 392,715 abortions in the fiscal year ending in fall 2022.

The Charlotte Lozier Institute said in its analysis that the total is more than 18,000, or 5% higher than the number of abortions performed the previous year. Additionally, it’s a 20% increase over the organization’s past 10 annual reports.

While abortions made up more than 97% of PP’s pregnancy resolution services, prenatal care, miscarriage care and adoption referrals made up the other less than 3%. PP performed 228 abortions for every adoption referral, a higher ratio than each of the past 10 years.

“Planned Parenthood’s business is abortion, abortion and more abortion. Their annual report shocks the conscience, showing that they ended nearly 393,000 American lives in a single year. This puts abortions performed by Planned Parenthood in the top four leading causes of death in the United States, after heart disease, cancer and COVID-19,” Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, said, according to the Daily Wire.

Michael New, a social scientist and senior associate scholar at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, which analyzed the report, also said that the report “consistently [provides] solid evidence that Planned Parenthood continues to prioritize abortion.”

It was also reported that while abortions were spiking, PP was serving fewer patients. There were 2.05 million patients in 2022, which is 80,000 fewer people than in 2021.

PP’s total services have plummeted 17% since 2010, with prenatal services being down 80% since peaking in 2009, contraceptive services being down 39% and cancer prevention services, which include breast exams and pap tests, declining by 71%.

Dannenfelser said that pregnant women who walk into PP are “sold an abortion” 97% of the time rather than being “helped to keep their child.”

She also said that the PP’s political arm spends money lobbying the federal government against “commonsense policies like protecting babies born alive after failed abortions.”

DoD Quietly Prepped Ukrainian Aid Despite Lack of Authorization

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Despite the ongoing congressional gridlock on Ukraine aid, the Defense Department took unilateral action, swiftly preparing military assistance without securing official authorization from Congress before the House’s vote on Saturday.

As cheering erupted from supporters of the spending spree, the House passed the controversial bill for foreign aid, earmarking $95 billion for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan over the weekend.

Politico reported Friday that once the Senate passes the bill and President Joe Biden signs it, the Pentagon will take less than a week to dispatch aid to Ukraine.

This expedited action aims to fast-track what Politico termed “the bureaucratic process” for the legislation. The news emerged from two U.S. officials.

According to one source cited by Politico, the extent or nature of the aid package remains unclear, but this uncertainty has not deterred the Pentagon.

“They will have that recommendation to the secretary very quickly, and that gets to the president shortly thereafter,” the official claimed.

Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Gen. Patrick Ryder seemingly affirmed that the federal government is preemptively preparing aid, despite Congress not yet voting on it

“We certainly understand and appreciate the urgency and are poised to move quickly,” Ryder claimed in remarks to Politico.

Of the $60 billion for Ukraine, $23.2 billion is allocated for replenishing weapons stocks, $13.8 billion for the Defense Department-led Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative to purchase new weapons and an additional $11.3 billion for intensified troop operations, as reported by Politico.

Despite staunch opposition from America First Republicans, who argue that funding Ukraine’s war against Russia is futile, the funding is expected to pass the House.

On Friday, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., relied on Democrats to advance the bill through the House Rules Committee, a rare move as the committee is typically controlled by the speaker’s party.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., criticized Johnson for seemingly cozying up to Democrats, suggesting it jeopardizes his position as House speaker by bringing him closer to a motion to vacate.

Trump Criticizes Europe for Not Matching U.S. Military Aid to Ukraine

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) Donald Trump recently blasted European nations in his Apr. 18, 2024, Truth Social post for not doing more to help Ukraine in its fight against Russia.

Even though Trump didn’t mention the current debate between Republicans on Capitol Hill over Ukraine aid, he called on American allies in Europe to do more to assist Ukraine.

“Why isn’t Europe giving more money to help Ukraine? Why is it that the United States is over 100 Billion Dollars into the Ukraine War more than Europe, and we have an Ocean between us as separation? Why can’t Europe equalize or match the money put in by the United States of America in order to help a Country in desperate need?” Trump wrote.

Additionally, he wrote that Ukraine’s survival “is also important to” the United States, adding that the war wouldn’t even happen if he still were president.

“As everyone agrees, Ukrainian Survival and Strength should be much more important to Europe than to us, but it is also important to us! GET MOVING EUROPE! In addition, I am the only one who speaks for ‘ME’ and, while it is a total mess caused by Crooked Joe Biden and the Incompetent Democrats, if I were President, this War would have never started!” he wrote.

Even though European financial and humanitarian aid for Ukraine has surpassed that coming from the United States, American military assistance for Ukraine still far outweighs what Ukraine is receiving from its European neighbors, the Daily Wire reported.

U.S. military commitments to Ukraine stand at over $42 billion, according to the Institute for the World Economy’s “Ukraine Support Tracker,” which was last updated in mid-February 2024. In comparison, Germany, the second-biggest military supporter of Ukraine, has committed only $18 billion and the United Kingdom has pledged just over $9 billion in military support to Ukraine.

That means that combined, European countries would have to double their pace of military aid for Ukraine to match what’s coming from the United States.
