Trump Turns Deep Blue States Purple After Assassination Attempt

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) Several deep blue states that have been Democrats’ safe political havens for many decades started to turn purple as a result of Joe Biden’s disastrous handling of the economy and the southern border.

Since 2008, Democrats have been winning the presidential vote in Virginia and New Mexico. New York and Minnesota have not been very different because people there have been voting for Democrats every year since 1988 and 1976, respectively.

However, the situation started to change after recent polls indicated that Donald Trump had been closing the gap with Biden and turning these blue states purple because of Biden’s immigration and economic policies, which had devastating consequences for average Americans, the Daily Caller reported.

In 2020, Biden won Virginia by over 10% of the vote, and Hillary Clinton won the state in 2016 by 4.9%. However, a May poll conducted by Roanoke College found Biden and Trump tied in a head-to-head matchup at 42% each. An early June poll by Fox News also showed Trump and Biden were tied.

New Mexico also has been a Democratic stronghold for a very long time. In 2020, Biden won this state by 10.8%. In 2016, Clinton won New Mexico by 8.3%. According to June’s internal findings from the national political consulting firm 1892, Trump is now just one point behind Biden in the state.

The people of New York have also historically voted for Democrats. In 2020, Biden won the state by 23.1%, and in 2016, Clinton won by 21.3%.

Right now, the state doesn’t look so safe for Democrats, with Trump trailing Biden by just eight points, according to a June poll from Siena College. A May poll by Emerson College put Trump even closer behind Biden, making it just a seven-point difference.

Siena College poll in New York also showed a stark difference from June 2023, when Biden was leading by 22 points ahead of Trump.

In 2020, Biden won Minnesota by 7.2%, while Clinton also won the state by 1.5%. Recent polls, however, indicated that Biden now leads the state by just four points, according to a June Mason Dixon Polling Strategy Poll. A June Emerson College Polling/The Hill poll showed that Trump and Biden tied at 45%.

“There’s no question. Trump is on a roll,” Jason Lewis, a former Republican representative to Minnesota’s second congressional district, said.

Republican Actress Among Celeb Deaths Overshadowed by Assassination Attempt

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) With the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump dominating the news over the weekend, the actual passing of several iconic public figures—including a rare Hollywood Republican—got swept under the rug.

After a prolonged struggle with cancer, actress Shannen Doherty passed away on Saturday at the age of 53, according to People.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” said Doherty’s publicist, Leslie Sloane.

“On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” Sloane continued. “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie.”

Doherty received her initial diagnosis in March 2015, and reported that she went into remission in 2017.

However, the cancer returned in 2019. Doherty announced her stage 4 metastatic cancer diagnosis publicly in 2020.

Despite repeated attempts at surgery, the cancer spread to her bones and her brain.

Doherty worked throughout the entirety of her battle with the disease.

“People just assume that it means you can’t walk, you can’t eat, you can’t work. They put you out to pasture at a very early age—‘You’re done, you’re retired,’ and we’re not,” she said. “We’re vibrant, and we have such a different outlook on life. We are people who want to work and embrace life and keep moving forward.”

Doherty played several iconic rolls, such as Jenny Wilder on Little House on the Prairie; Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210; Prue Halliwell in Charmed; and even took a brief host position on Good Morning America.

Doherty’s career unfortunately suffered after she garnered a reputation for being “difficult” on the set of Charmed, where she co-stared with leftist radical Alyssa Milano before leaving after three seasons to be replaced by another outspoken leftist, Rose McGowan.

“It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of,” Milano told the New York Post on Sunday. “She was a talented actress, beloved by many and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”

McGowan also paid tribute in a heartwarming Instagram post calling her “a soft-hearted badass” and noting that their friendship transcended political differences.

“We laughed at dark forces who wanted us to hate each other, instead we chose love and respect,” she said.

Actress Shelley Duvall, fitness guru Richard Simmons and talk-show host Dr. Ruth Westheimer also passed away recently.

For some, the overshadowing called to mind a similar historical footnote that, sadly, occurred during the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Two renowned British authors—C.S. Lewis and Aldous Huxley—both passed on Nov. 22, 1963.

Lewis, the renowned religious scholar and author of the Chronicles of Narnia, died of renal failure in Oxford, England an hour before the shooting of JFK in Dallas, Texas.

Huxley, best known for his dystopian novel Brave New World, was also a famous early advocate and pioneer in the experimentation of LSD. He died of oral cancer in Los Angeles.

Report: Law Enforcement Spotted Alleged Trump Shooter 30 MINUTES before Attack

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Channel 11 news in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has reported that alleged Trump shooter Thomas Crooks was spotted by law enforcement on a roof nearly 30 minutes before his attack.

“Channel 11′s Nicole Ford confirmed that Beaver County’s ESU team had eight members at the rally, including snipers and spotters. According to Ford’s sources, one of them noticed a suspicious man on a roof near the rally at 5:45 p.m., called it in and took a picture of the person. We have learned from our sources the person in that picture is Thomas Crooks. We’re told it’s not clear if Crooks had a gun with him at that point,” the local news station reported Monday afternoon.

“According to multiple sources, a law enforcement officer had also previously seen Crooks on the ground and called him in as a suspicious person with a picture prior to 5:45 p.m. Our sources tell us an officer checked the grounds for Crooks at that point, but did not see him where the first picture was taken,” the news station added.

“26 minutes after the second picture of Crooks was taken by law enforcement and the information called in, shots were fired from the roof of the American Glass Research building. Seconds later, a Secret Service sniper returned fire and killed Crooks.”

The Channel 11 report suggests that the security failures at Saturday’s Trump rally are even more egregious than what’s been reported so far. The Secret Service is already under intense scrutiny for seemingly having its snipers hold their fire until after the shooter fired several times.

Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., wrote a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas early Sunday morning, demanding info about the incident. Secret Service is housed within the DHS.

“According to the USSS, the shooter ‘fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue.’ This raises serious concerns regarding how a shooter was able to access a rooftop within range and direct line of sight of where President Trump was speaking,” Green told Mayorkas.

“Additionally, some reporting, suggests that the Department of Homeland Security (Department) ‘rebuffed’ multiple requests from President Trump’s security detail to increase protective resources in the weeks preceding this event.”

Green seeks information from the DHS by this Friday.

BREAKING: Trump Selects JD Vance as His Vice Presidential Running-Mate

(Elias Irizarry, Headline USA) Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump announced Monday that he had selected Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, as his vice presidential running mate ahead of the first night of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

“J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers,” stated Trump in a post on his Truth Social page.

Vance has become a celebrity among Trump supporters as a symbol of blue-collar workers in the Midwest.

Supporters hope that his nomination will grow Trump’s strength in states like Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, which pushed Trump to victory in 2016 under his message of protecting American manufacturing.

The 39-year-old freshman senator came to prominence after authoring his memoir titled Hillbilly Elegy in 2016, describing his upbringing in an Appalachian low-income family in Middletown, Ohio.

The eponymous Ron Howard film, released in 2020 on Netflix, garnered two Academy Award nominations, including a best supporting actress nod for Glenn Close, who portrayed Vance’s grandmother.

Vance previously served in the United States Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University, and received his law degree from Yale Law School.

Some conservatives hailed the decision a bold choice for Trump an a win for the America First movement in comparison with other finalists such as North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and even former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Trump’s greatest intra-party adversary in the GOP primary, who was criticized for being overly supportive of special interests, including defense contractors.

Vance marks a notable departure from the longtime neocon establishment as a vocal opponent of the war in Ukraine, which could potentially alienate some GOP donors but is more likely to appeal to his the populist political base.

However, some have indicated wariness over Vance’s past criticisms of Trump, such as when he declared himself a “Never Trumper” and refused to vote for him in 2016—even likening Trump to Adolf Hitler.

Infamous neoconservative former Bush-era White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove stated that Vance was the “worst possible pick for Trump’s VP,” in an interview with Bret Baier of Fox News. He additionally endorsed Burgum for the vice presidency.

After the announcement, Rove reportedly was seen in a full meltdown on FOX News, alongside Rupert Murdoch and John Bolton, according to conservative pundit Jack Posobiec.

GoFundMe for Trump Rally Shooting Victims Raises Over $4M

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) It was revealed that people donated over $4 million to the GoFundMe campaign raising money for victims of the July 13, 2024, shooting at Donald Trump’s Butler, Pa., rally.

Meredith O’Rourke, the Trump campaign’s national finance director, started the fundraiser “Support For Butler PA Victims—President Trump Authorized.” According to the fundraising site, as of July 15, 2024, the campaign raised $4,381,793 million, surpassing the $1 million goal.

“President Donald Trump has authorized this account as a place for donations to the supporters and families wounded or killed in today’s brutal and horrific assassination attempt. All donations will be directed to these proud Americans as they grieve and recover. May God bless and unite our nation,” the GoFundMe campaign’s description said.

The Daily Caller reported that over 25,000 people have donated since the fundraiser started.

According to the GoFundMe donation records, among the celebrities who have made large donations were UFC president Dana White, who donated $50,000; musician Kid Rock, who donated $50,000; former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who contributed $30,000; and Daily Wire host Ben Shapiro, who donated $15,000.

Former Buffalo volunteer firefighter Corey Comperatore’s family posted on Facebook that he died at the rally protecting his daughters from the bullets.

“He was a hero who shielded his daughters. His wife and girls just lived through the unthinkable and unimaginable. My baby brother just turned 50 and had so much life left to experience. Hatred has no limits and love has no bounds. Pray for my sister-in-law, nieces, my mother, sister, me and his nieces and nephews as this feels like a terrible nightmare, but we know it is our painful reality,” Dawn Comperatore Schafer, Corey Comperatore’s sister, wrote.

The Pennsylvania state police said in its July 14, 2024, statement that David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, the other victims from the rally, are currently both in stable condition.

Secret Service Resources Diverted from Trump Pa. Event to Jill Biden

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Following Saturday’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally, RealClearPolitics National Political Correspondent Susan Crabtree said the Secret Service had diverted resources to the protection of first lady Jill Biden instead.

Crabtree wrote that rather than protect the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, who has been the victim of nearly a decade of vicious partisan attacks, the top security team was assigned to the incumbent president’s wife, who was holding a rally in nearby Pittsburgh.

“Secret Services resources were diverted to Jill Biden’s event and away from Trump’s because they followed agency protocol applying to Trump as a former president, according to two sources within the Secret Service community,” Crabtree wrote.

Insiders also reportedly told Crabtree that Trump had a backup group of temporary replacements that was also understaffed.

“There were also many supplemental agents from different field officers (not Trump’s regular detail) providing security at the rally because Trump’s regular detail has been overworked (some working 7 days straight), and only two counter-snipers,” Crabtree wrote.

However, some lawmakers noted that the understaffing appeared to fit with a pattern

Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., accused Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of repeatedly denying Trump’s requests for additional security, Trending Politics reported.

“I have very reliable sources telling me there have been repeated requests for stronger secret service protection for President Trump,” Waltz wrote on X. “Denied by Secretary Mayorkas.”

Similar concerns have long been conveyed by independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who lost his father and uncle to political assassinations but has nonetheless been refused any Secret Service detail while polling close to 10% in some surveys.

Nonetheless, the nation was left in shock after a bullet came within milimiters of killing Trump roughly 15 minutes into his speech in Butler, Pa., grazing him in the ear. The assailant, 20-year-old Thomas Michael Crooks, fired approximately eight shots from a rooftop outside the rallygrounds, one of which killed 50-year-old ex-firefighter Corey Comperatore. At least two other people were critically injured.

In the wake of Saturday’s security breach, rumors and conspiracies have swirled, according to the Gateway Pundit.

One notable critic was Erik Prince, former Blackwater CEO and founder, who suggested that the breach in security was the height of incompetence.

“The fact that [United States Secret Service] allowed a rifle armed shooter within 150yds to a preplanned event is either malice or massive incompetence,” Prince wrote, adding that there was a large unmonitored space that allowed Crooks to get into position.

“Clearly there was adequate uncontrolled dead space for a shooter to move into position and take multiple aimed shots.”

According to the former military and security professional, the sniper defending Trump was “overwhelmed” as he failed to do his job.

Making matters worse, the Libs of Tik Tok reported that the Secret Service has been infiltrated by DEI, enacting woke policies to get women in positions demanding physical prowess, which has now possibly led to the death of an American.

Things are so bad that some female Secret Service agents clearly did not know what to do in the aftermath of the assassination attempt.

Trump Shooter Had Account on Discord—Where Feds Target Gamers

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) The 20-year-old man who allegedly tried to assassinate presidential frontrunner Donald Trump reportedly had an account with Discord—a chatting app used by feds, intelligence contractors and an assortment of bad actors to target gamers.

The Associated Press reported Monday that the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, appears to have had an account, but rarely used it—and didn’t use it at all in the last several months. A Discord spokesperson told the AP there’s “no evidence” that Crooks used his account to promote violence or discuss his political views.

Discord is reportedly cooperating with the FBI’s investigation.

Discord and Mass Shootings

The social media platform has a history of being linked to shootings and terrorism.

Perhaps the most notorious example of this is the 2022 Buffalo massacre. In that case, shooter Payton Gendron was active on Discord in the leadup to his killing spree. Even more bizarrely, Gendron had been chatting on Discord with a “retired federal agent” moments before he killed 10 people at the Buffalo supermarket.

Last April, the FBI denied Headline USA’s request for records on the retired federal agent’s links to Gendron, citing an ongoing investigation.

More recently, mass shooter Dylan Butler—who reportedly killed a sixth grader, injured four others and fatally shot himself at a school January in Iowa—was also reported to have used Discord.

NBC reported days after the shooting that Butler was a member of a Discord chat group called “School Massacres Discussion,” which was dedicated to discussing school shootings. According to NBC, another Discord user had notified the FBI about the chatroom months before the attack.

“The Discord user said they had flagged the chatroom to the FBI in November, after which an FBI agent reached out over email and asked for more information,” NBC reported in January.

“The user emailed the FBI agent screenshots of the server but did not hear back. The user said their report to the FBI did not include mention of the user ‘took2much.’ The chatroom was closed before the shooting.”

Along with mass shootings, Discord is notorious for hosting chatrooms that promote Satanism, pedophilia and terrorism. Members of the Satanic cult 764, for instance, operate on numerous Discord channels.

Discord and the War on Gamers

Discord was thrust into the national spotlight in April 2023, when it was revealed that a Massachusetts Air National Guardsman had allegedly leaked highly sensitive Pentagon documents on the platform.

Since then, the Biden administration has been pushing to eliminate all gamer privacy on Discord and similar chat apps.

Indeed, NBC News reported in April 2023 that the Biden White House is “looking at expanding the universe of online sites that intelligence agencies and law enforcement authorities track.”

Around that same time last year, investigative reporter Lee Fang also published a story about how the U.S. government is partnering with private intelligence firms to spy on gaming chatrooms—revealing that the online spooks are particularly interested in conducting surveillance on teenagers.

Fang quoted an unnamed official from the Israeli threat intelligence firm CyberInt, who said: “I prefer to detect threat actors when they’re young or starting out at 14 or 15. That’s when I start observing and documenting their malicious activities. Because when they’re at that age or stage in their career, they’re a lot more careless and open. They tend to show off more.”

The latest information on the government’s targeting of gamers came in February, when the Government Accountability Office reported that the FBI increased its efforts last year to infiltrate gaming servers.

“Officials said in 2023, the FBI worked to increase engagement with gaming and gaming-adjacent companies for the annual meeting and on outreach efforts with the program manager,” the GAO report said.

“Officials said that as the FBI works with more companies, it continues to learn how companies operate, the type of behavior and content companies see on their platforms, and the extent to which companies report information as tips.”

That same GAO report also implausibly alleged that the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill uprising was planned on gaming platforms—even though the Justice Department hasn’t revealed any evidence of that.

“For example, according to a National Fusion Center Association official, social media users plotting the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol used code words for weapons, so they could covertly discuss plans to bring weapons to the Capitol,” the report said, failing to provide evidence for its claim.

But while the Biden administration is pushing for more access to gaming chatrooms in the name of public safety, past history has shown that it’s the FBI’s own contractors who are committing the crimes on Discord.

That was demonstrated last August, when the DOJ announced child porn charges against a former FBI contractor. According to the DOJ, Virginia man Brett Janes, 26, contacted roughly a dozen minor boys over Discord and Snapchat.

According to an FBI affidavit, Janes’s crimes were discovered by the father of one of the victims. The father contacted local police, who then relayed the case to the FBI around April 2023. A month later, the FBI confirmed that Janes was a contractor within a headquarters unit in the bureau.

Regardless of the government’s intentions, privacy advocates have warned against the government’s push to spy on gamers.

“There’s a disturbing trend toward government agencies contracting out surveillance, paying the likes of data brokers to spy on people even when agents wouldn’t be allowed to,” Sean Vitka, senior policy counsel of Demand Progress, told Fang last year.

“It’s becoming frighteningly apparent that a similar privatized spying cottage industry targeting private chat rooms also exists.”

Fla. Judge Cannon Tosses Lawfare Case Waged by Illegitimate Special Counsel

A federal judge in Florida dismissed the classified documents-related criminal case against former President Donald Trump on Monday, saying the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith violated the Constitution.

The case could be appealed and go all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. The basis for arguing that Smith was illegitimate was initially laid out in an amicus curiae brief by former Ronald Reagan attorney general Ed Meese that was filed with the Supreme Court for Trump v. U.S., the case considering Trump’s presidential immunity in Smith’s Washington, D.C., case.

Many legal experts considered the classified documents case to be Trump’s most difficult legal hurdle, and its removal comes on the first day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and two days after the former president survived an assassination attempt in Butler, Pa.

“As we move forward in Uniting our Nation after the horrific events on Saturday, this dismissal of the Lawless Indictment in Florida should be just the first step, followed quickly by the dismissal of ALL the Witch Hunts — The January 6th Hoax in Washington, D.C., the Manhattan D.A.’s Zombie Case, the New York A.G. Scam, Fake Claims about a woman I never met (a decades old photo in a line with her then husband does not count), and the Georgia ‘Perfect’ Phone Call charges,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Monday morning.

“The Democrat Justice Department coordinated ALL of these Political Attacks, which are an Election Interference conspiracy against Joe Biden’s Political Opponent, ME. Let us come together to END all Weaponization of our Justice System, and Make America Great Again!”

Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the case in question, saying that Smith’s appointment violated the Appointments Clause of the Constitution, in particular because the Biden administration funded the prosecution without authorization from Congress, which retains the power of the purse.

Cannon said that Smith was operating with the power normally reserved for an attorney general but that unlike an attorney general, Smith was not given express permission by Congress to do so.

“Both the Appointments and Appropriations challenges as framed in the Motion raise the following threshold question: is there a statute in the United States Code that authorizes the appointment of Special Counsel Smith to conduct this prosecution?” the ruling said.

“After careful study of this seminal issue, the answer is no,” she continued. “None of the statutes cited as legal authority for the appointment … gives the Attorney General broad inferior-officer appointing power or bestows upon him the right to appoint a federal officer with the kind of prosecutorial power wielded by Special Counsel Smith,” the ruling continued.

Cannon said the process for prosecuting Trump violated the separation of powers by kicking Congress out of the equation.

“The bottom line is this: The Appointments Clause is a critical constitutional restriction stemming from the separation of powers, and it gives to Congress a considered role in determining the propriety of vesting appointment power for inferior officers,” the ruling said. “The Special Counsel’s position effectively usurps that important legislative authority, transferring it to a Head of Department, and in the process threatening the structural liberty inherent in the separation of powers.”

The ruling suggests that Trump could still be prosecuted, but this delay will almost certainly push the case beyond the election and may kill it altogether.

“If the political branches wish to grant the Attorney General power to appoint Special Counsel Smith to investigate and prosecute this action with the full powers of a United States Attorney, there is a valid means by which to do so,” the ruling said. “He can be appointed and confirmed through the default method prescribed in the Appointments Clause, as Congress has directed for United States Attorneys throughout American history … or Congress can authorize his appointment through enactment of positive statutory law consistent with the Appointments Clause.”

While appointing special counsels has become more common, Cannon argues the practice does not have solid legal footing.

“In the end, it seems the Executive’s growing comfort in appointing ‘regulatory’ special counsels in the more recent era has followed an ad hoc pattern with little judicial scrutiny,” the ruling said.

The case began when federal authorities raided Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in 2022 because he allegedly held on to classified documents and stored them there after leaving the White House.

Notably, President Joe Biden also held on to classified documents after leaving the White House but was not prosecuted on the basis that he was deemed unfit to stand trial.

Canadian Gold Exports to China Surge in Another Sign of Gold Flowing from West to East

(Mike Maharrey, Money Metals News Service) Canada’s growing gold exports to China provide more evidence of the shift of gold from the West to the East.

Asian gold demand has been hot through the first half of 2024. Vietnamese and Thai investors flocked to gold despite long lines and high prices.  Gold is flying off convenience store shelves in Korea. And gold demand in India recently surged during an important festival.

But China has been the biggest driver in Eastern gold demand.

As the Chinese central bank bought gold and dumped U.S. Treasuries, young Chinese investors lined up at shops to purchase gold beans.

Franco-Nevada Corp. Chairman Emeritus Pierre Lassonde recently said the world needs to wake up to this fact.

“The marginal buyer of gold is no longer the U.S. It’s no longer Europe. It’s China. … China takes up over two-thirds of all the annual production…That’s where the gold price is set.”

Meanwhile, Western investors still haven’t hopped on the bandwagon, despite record gold prices in recent months. Fund managers Leigh Goehring and Adam Rozencwajg noted in their Q1 newsletter that Western investors have lost their influence in the gold market and continued to liquidate gold holdings in the first quarter even as prices rallied.

“Western investors continue to sell their gold while Central Banks and Chinese and Indian retail investors continue to buy aggressively. With gold making record highs, it is clear who is winning.”

Although the People’s Bank of China has paused gold buying (at least as far as what they’re officially reporting), the Chinese central bank was the biggest gold buyer in 2023. Officially, the People’s Bank of China added more than 300 tons of gold to its reserves during its most recent buying spree.

An article in the Financial Post suggested the Chinese are trying to minimize their exposure to the dollar and the possibility of it being used as a weapon against them.

“Some analysts think China’s central bank’s growing purchases of gold is a geopolitical reaction. After Russia invaded Ukraine, the U.S. and its allies froze billions of dollars of Russian assets, and analysts have said they believe China views gold as a way to gain protection against the U.S. and any other country that could freeze its assets.”

The Chinese central bank isn’t alone in buying gold. Chinese investors are also snapping up the yellow metal.

“There has been this perception that central banks are the only buyers in town, but the reality is that the retail buying in both gold and silver has been buoyant as well, especially out of China,” Sprott Asset Management senior portfolio manager Shree Kargutkar told the Post.

This is despite record-high premiums on gold in China.

“The bottom line is there has been a marked change in the Chinese consumer as far as gold and silver go; they’re paying up for it,” Kargutkar said.

China ranks as the world’s top gold producer. Nevertheless, it still must import gold from other countries to meet demand.

Canada is one of the countries that supplies gold to China, and Canadian gold exports have surged this year despite trade tensions between the two countries.

Ontario Minister of Economic Development Vic Fedeli told the Financial Post that precious metals now represent the province’s biggest export to China.

In 2023, Canada sold $589 million CAD in gold to the Chinese. That was up from $189 million CAD in 2020. That represents a 211.6 percent increase.

World Gold Council senior market strategist Joe Cavatoni called gold exports to China “a key component for the Canadian mining market.”

There is no sign that the Asian love affair with gold is going to end any time soon. That means a continued flow of gold from the West to the East.

Do Chinese and other Asian investors know something Westerners have forgotten?

And what will it mean for the gold market if Westerners figure it out?

Putting the National Debt Into Perspective We Can All Understand

(Mike Maharrey, Money Metals News Service) U.S. government borrowing and spending never stops. The federal government ran another big deficit in June, as the national debt inches closer to $35 trillion.

$35 trillion USD.

Trillion with a ‘T.’

That’s an unfathomable number. It’s meaningless to most people. We simply can’t comprehend a number that big.

Let’s try to put the $34.9 trillion national debt into perspective.

According to the National Debt Clock, every American citizen would have to write a check for $103,565 to pay off the national debt.

Of course, a lot of people don’t pay taxes. That means the taxpayer burden is much higher. Every U.S. taxpayer would have to write a check for $266,953 to wipe out the debt.  And that’s on top of the taxes we already pay!

To put it another way, $35 trillion is more than the total economies of China, Japan, Germany, and the UK combined.

Visualizing 1 Trillion

1,000,000,000,000

It’s hard to wrap your head around how big 1 trillion is, much less 35 trillion. Here are a few factoids to help you visualize just how big that number is:

  • There are 1 million seconds in 11.5 days. A trillion seconds is about 32,000 years.
  • If you could say one number every second, it would take about 11.5 million years to count to 1 trillion.
  • If you had spent $1 million every day since the birth of Christ, you still wouldn’t have spent $1 trillion.
  • If you line up dollar bills end-to-end, you could go to the moon and back around 203 times with $1 trillion. You could wrap them around the earth about 3,893 times.
  • If you stacked up 1 trillion dollar bills, the dollar tower would rise to 67,866 miles.
  • If a cup of coffee costs $3, you could buy 333 billion cups of coffee with $1 trillion.
  • If you had 1 trillion dollars, you could give every person on Earth approximately $125.
  • One trillion grains of rice would weigh about 20,000 metric tons.

Keep in mind that all of these examples only illustrate the size of $1 trillion. The national debt is nearly 35 times that number.

James Madison once called a large national debt a “public curse.”

“I go on the principle that a Public Debt is a Public curse and in a Rep. Govt. a greater than in any other.”

We’re certainly cursed to the tune of $35 trillion USD.

Thomas Jefferson said he considered “public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared.”

In his Farewell Address, George Washington urged us to use debt sparingly – and, get this, actually pay it off as quickly as possible!

“As a very important source of strength and security, cherish public credit. One method of preserving it is to use it as sparingly as possible, avoiding occasions of expense by cultivating peace, but remembering also that timely disbursements to prepare for danger frequently prevent much greater disbursements to repel it.”

We failed to heed the warning of the Anti-federalist writer Brutus.

“I can scarcely contemplate a greater calamity that could befall this country, than to be loaded with a debt exceeding their ability ever to discharge. If this be a just remark, it is unwise and improvident to vest in the general government a power to borrow at discretion, without any limitation or restriction.”

And here we are.
