(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) The New York Democrats gerrymandered themselves into a predicament in their home state, this time forcing their own representatives Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney to face off against each other, Just the News reported.
Both Nadler and Maloney have served for at least two decades in the House. Further, both head up important committees.
Nadler wasn’t pleased with the new outcome and questioned the redistricting’s constitutionality, though he nevertheless committed to running for reelection.
“I believe these newly proposed lines by the Special Master violate the NYS constitutional requirements of keeping communities of interest together and keeping the cores of existing districts largely intact,” he wrote.
“However, provided that they become permanent, I very much look forward to running in and representing the people of the newly created 12th District of New York,” Nadler continued.
Maloney soon followed Nadler’s statement, suggesting that she would also run again in the same district.
Fifteen minutes after Nadler’s post went up, Maloney wrote, “I am proud to announce that I will be running to continue to represent the 12th Congressional District.”
She tried to lay claim to the district by suggesting that most of the communities in the district have fallen into her constituency in the past.
“A majority of the communities in the newly redrawn NY-12 are ones I have represented for years and to which I have deep ties,” she concluded.
Both Democrat mainstays have been entrenched in the D.C. swamp for eons: Maloney is 76, Nadler is 74.
The primary is on the books for Aug. 23 after being postponed by the bungling of redistricting commissions in the state.
Nadler and Maloney will compete for an area that represents central Manhattan.
