(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) A group pitching itself as a “nonpartisan” voter registration organization pushed people to vote from Democrats in the 2020 election, according to a Capital Research Center report published by the Daily Caller.
The Voter Registration Project, also known as “Everybody Votes,” focused on registering demographics more likely to vote for Democrats, hired left-wing consultants and took orders from now-White House Deputy Chief of Staff John Podesta, a longtime fixture in leftist politics who had been Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager.
Reporting on VRP’s website indicated that the group registered 5.1 million new voters since 2015.
“Encouraging qualified voters to exercise their right to vote is a noble purpose, served by legitimate nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders around the country,” said Lisa Dixon, executive director of the watchdog Lawyers Democracy Fund.
“But when supposedly nonpartisan organizations conduct get-out-the-vote efforts in a manner that seems designed to benefit one political party, voters are rightly skeptical of how fair and nonpartisan such efforts are,” Dixon added.
Left-wing political action committee Mind the Gap—based in California and previously led by infamous fraud Sam Bankman–Fried’s mother, Barbara Fried—promoted VRP as an ideal strategy for upcoming elections.
“The most effective tactic in a Presidential year by a wide margin is nonpartisan voter registration focused on underrepresented groups in our electoral process,” she wrote in a memo, according to Vox.
In addition to its tactical value, claiming phony “nonpartisan” status likely allowed the group to skirt customary campaign-finance and tax laws placed on organizations with explicitly partisan objectives.
Fried also encouraged her co-conspirators to keep their work a secret for partisan reasons.
VRP received hundreds of thousands of dollars from various left-wing charities for their “voter registration” initiatives.
Since its founding in 2015, Everybody Votes registered 5.1 million voters. According to their website, 76% of those voters were “people of color,” 56% were women, and 46% were under 35 years old.
“VRP provided Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden between 1 million and 2.7 million votes,” the CRC report estimated.
VRP also received millions from prominent left-wing donors, such as the George Soros-backed Open Society Foundations and the Democracy Fund, founded by leftist billionaire Pierre Omidyar.
The New Venture Fund, which also has connections to Soros via Arabella Advisors, gave nearly $13 million over four years.
Everybody Votes hired in several left-wing political advisors for the 2020 presidential campaign and appeared to make similar moves for the 2024 election cycle.
