The inherent duplicity of Left’s social-justice hierarchy, known as intersectionality, was on full display recently as woke true-believers invoked its precepts, first to discriminate against women and then to denounce the forces of systemic sexism in plane travel.
Social-justice gadflies apparently had no problem with a prestigious art museum targeting a group of primarily white, female volunteers for dismissal, but they were completely outraged when an airline pilot called his passengers ‘ladies’ and ‘gentlemen’.
The Art Institute of Chicago decided last month that its roster of volunteer docents should be dismissed because the group of predominantly white, retired women was not “diverse” and “inclusive” enough, the Daily Wire reported.
According to the Art Institute’s Docent Council, the volunteers were dismissed because “the museum’s perspective is that the current docent corps’ demographics do not meet the need of the strategic plan” and the museum concluded that “reengineering the docent program was a step towards achieving the museum’s important goal of creating a culture of diversity and inclusion.”
So, obviously, get rid of all the white women.
“Once you cut through the blather, the letter basically said the museum had looked critically at its corps of docents (a group dominated by mostly (but not entirely) white, retired women with some time to spare, and found them wanting as a demographic,” wrote the Chicago Tribune’s editorial board.
Meanwhile, a demographic of ladies and gentlemen has been deemed totally inappropriate, according to another Daily Wire piece.
Under pressure from the LGBT culture cabal, British Airways has informed pilots and cabin crew that they must stop saying “ladies and gentlemen” during onboard announcements in an effort to promote—wait for it—“diversity and inclusion.”
British Airways hasn’t said what should be used as replacement gender-neutral language from pilots and crew.
Air Canada has since 2019 used “everyone” instead of “ladies and gentlemen,” reported iNews, while Japan Airlines and Lufthansa started using “dear guests” last year.
The classic Southern idiom “y’all” would cover a lot of amorphous, androgynous, non-binary, asexual, transgender ground, but some cultural snowflake would surely hear a white supremacy dog whistle because—Southern.
Of course, that makes about as much sense as a liberal-arts museum that practices overt racism getting a pass from cultural leftists.
