(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Rachel Maddow, MSNBC’s top-billed host and favorite of leftist women everywhere, announced that she will scale back her TV appearances to once per week, the Daily Caller reported.
She will only host her signature show, the Rachel Maddow Show, on Mondays going forward, freeing her up to work on other projects for MSNBC—and perhaps to explore other fields of interest.
The show will apparently have a rotating lineup of hosts from Tuesday through Friday each week.
She made the announcement earlier this week, noting that she has some other projects to work on.
Maddow plans to finish out the month of April on the old schedule.
“I’m gonna be here all this month Monday through Thursday nights,” she said.
She also noted that she plans to be around more frequently during important events, like elections and other news cycle frenzies.
“Now for big news events, for things like the lead up to the election I will, of course, be here more than that but that is the general plan … then starting in May I’m going to be here weekly. I’m going to be here on Monday nights just to give myself more time to work on some of this other stuff I’ve got cooking for MSNBC and NBC.”
The shock announcement came following widespread speculation about the troubled network’s lineup and contract negotiations—including the possiblity that it might soon cancel bombastic race-baiter Joy Reid.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki—who has yet to announce a widely known gig with the network following her impending departure from the Biden administration—was also rumored to be taking over the spot.
One-time host Keith Olbermann, meanwhile, shot down the possibility that he might return.
“I do not expect to continue negotiations with the successors to this management team,” he added. “Management is worse than asleep at the switch.”
Maddow, whose ratings took a dive with the end of the Trump presidency, recently took a lengthy hiatus, during which she was reported to have worked on projects including a movie with comedian Ben Stiller.
During that time she was replaced by Ali Velshi, whom Maddow called a “prince among men.”
Maddow’s partial departure is another worrisome sign for fake news corporations. She was by far the company’s most popular host.
Of course MSNBC is not the only mainstream media company with plummeting ratings.
CNN has failed to adequately fill its own prime time spot after the scandalous, forced departured of longtime host Chris Cuomo and network president Jeff Zucker.
