J6 Committee Divided on Whether to Push For Abolishing the Electoral College

Ultimately, the committee's goal will be to identify all of the 'ways in which somebody with the will can subvert the law... '

(Headline USADemocrats’ partisan Jan. 6 congressional committee is reportedly divided over what political actions to take, including whether to abolish the Electoral College, after it completes its political theater public hearings.

The committee begins its televised hearings on Thursday, but what comes next is an issue that has Democrat members of the committee conflicted. Some of the committee’s leftist members want the committee to use its political power to push for tightening the Insurrection Act and expanding voting access, according to Axios.

Other members, however, including Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., one of only two Republicans on the committee, are not convinced.

“Liz is much more conservative, as far as what kinds of changes she wants to see done,” said a source with direct knowledge of her conversations.

Cheney has reportedly argued that the committee will burn whatever integrity it has left if it chooses to push sweeping legislative changes.

However, both Reps. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., and Adam Schiff, D-Calif., two of the top inquisitors of the committee, have advocated strongly for changing or flat-out abolishing the Electoral College. Raskin has also pushed for the committee to endorse “federal legislation to oppose voter suppression tactics and gerrymandering,” according to a source.

Another source said the committee is “trying to preserve the unanimity that we’ve had to date, so that we can go into the hearings and just get through the hearings, and then tackle the hard stuff on the other side.”

“We do recognize that there are significant differences [in legislative recommendations] that we’re going to have to work through because everybody has to sign the final report,” the source added.

Ultimately, the committee’s goal will be to identify all of the “ways in which somebody with the will can subvert the law,” a source said.

You know, kind of like what the J6 Inquisition is doing.
