Dem Infighting Continues as Pelosi Plans Trip to Taiwan

'I think what the president was saying is that maybe the military was afraid that our plane would get shot down...'

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) This week, President Joe Biden said that the U.S. Military does not support a potential trip to Taiwan by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Cali).

Pelosi, however, brushed off this concern and seems to be planning on making the trip anyway.

According to Washington Examiner, Pelosi’s planned trip may yet be cancelled due to security concerns.

When asked if he thought it was a good idea for Pelosi to visit the small island off the Chinese coast, Biden commented on the safety risk of such a trip:

“I think that—the military thinks it’s not a good idea right now, but I don’t know what the status of it is,” he said.

Biden and Pelosi, who are usually on the same page politically in public, have seen an increasing divide as Biden’s poll numbers continue to fall.

Some of the more far-left members of Congress have openly expressed frustration at the slow-moving Biden White House, particularly concerning matters such as student loan forgiveness and climate change.

Pelosi did not confirm whether or not her Taiwan trip would take place, also citing security concerns.

“I think what the president was saying is that maybe the military was afraid that our plane would get shot down, or something like that, by the Chinese,” she said. “I don’t know exactly. I didn’t see it. I didn’t hear it.”

“You’re telling me and I heard it anecdotally,” she said. “But I haven’t heard it from the president.”

China considers Taiwan to be its territory, which constantly causes conflict between Beijing and Washington, as America supports a democratically controlled island.

Pelosi has bucked White House opposition before, in a meeting with then-President Bashar Assad of Syria in 2007 when George W. Bush was in office.

A similar move now would be more notable, however, since Biden and Pelosi belong to the same party.
