(Headline USA) CNN’s Don Lemon has been bumped from his primetime show and will be moved to mornings later this year, according to a press release.
The network announced this week that Lemon will join hosts Poppy Harlow and Kaitlin Collins in debuting a new morning show, replacing current New Day hosts John Berman and Brianna Keilar.
“There is no stronger combination of talent than Don, Poppy, and Kaitlan to deliver on our promise of a game-changing morning news program,” CNN executive Chris Licht said in a statement.
Lemon said he welcomes the decision in a statement, saying it’s “time to shake things up.”
“I’ve had the opportunity to work with one of the best show teams in the business, but it’s time to shake things up. … I was honestly floored when Chris Licht asked me to do this, and I’m honored by his belief in me,” he said. “Set your alarms folks because we’re going to have a lot of fun.”
The change is just the latest in a massive shake-up within the network that has taken place over the past several months. Most recently, CNN parted ways with host Brian Stelter and canceled his show. Insiders said the decision was part of the new CNN leadership’s efforts to make the network less radioactive to Republicans.
Lemon’s demotion seems to be from the same vein, since he, like Stelter, has frequently attacked Republicans in a habitually partisan manner.
Bitter Don Lemon lashes out on-air seemingly against new CNN boss Chris Licht as the “people who are in charge of what we…the American press puts out” and decries the desire to treat GOP fairly.
“Republicans are doing something that is very dangerous to our society,” he sneers. pic.twitter.com/jRr7Grz9Q6— Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) July 14, 2022
