Congressional leftists attacked Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., this weekend, accusing him of betraying his own constituents, after he announced that he would not support President Joe Biden’s massive $2 trillion spending bill.
Manchin said he could not bring himself to support the Build Back Better bill because of its enormous price tag, saying he would not be able to justify it to his voters.
Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., however, claimed Manchin’s reasoning was “bulls***,” as if she knows more about what West Virginians want than Manchin.
Let’s be clear: Manchin’s excuse is bullshit. The people of West Virginia would directly benefit from childcare, pre-Medicare expansion, and long term care, just like Minnesotans.
This is exactly what we warned would happen if we separated Build Back Better from infrastructure. https://t.co/dhzcSk0qUV

During an appearance on MSNBC, Omar continued to blast Manchin, saying she always knew he “couldn’t be trusted.”
“It is really disheartening to hear him say that he has been trying to get there for the people of West Virginia because that’s a complete lie,” she foamed. “There are just so many things that, you know, the people of West Virginia desperately need, and we know that he is not working on behalf of their interest.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., also joined the pile-on, claiming that Manchin’s decision is “an egregious breach of trust.” Democrats have “every right to be furious with Joe Manchin,” she said.
When we suggested this months ago, people were outraged, accused us of insulting people’s character, called us disruptive, etc
Capitol Hill is full of folks who convince themselves they’re 3 steps ahead by rationalizing to themselves why the obvious isn’t true. A hustler’s dream https://t.co/2LYbuHyASy

Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., agreed and urged Democratic leadership in the House and Senate to bring Build Back Better to a vote anyway.
“The Senate must return to session immediately and bring this historic and transformational bill to a vote,” she said, “so Senator Manchin—and every Republican who has opposed it from the very beginning—can demonstrate, on the record, the contempt they have for their constituents.”
