Border Patrol agents feel betrayed by the Biden administration after the White House publicly attacked several agents who were falsely accused of “whipping” Haitian migrants last week, according to the agency’s union president.
“The agents feel like – at all levels of management, from [Customs and Border Protection] to [the Department of Homeland Security] and to the White House – that they’ve been thrown under the bus because no investigation has been completed, yet you’re hearing the president say these people will pay,” National Border Patrol Council Vice President Jon Anfinsen told Fox News this week.
Pictures of Border Patrol agents on horseback confronting Haitian migrants who were trying to cross the southern border illegally went viral last week after leftists falsely claimed the agents were using their horses’ reins as whips.
Additional photographic evidence proved the agents did no such thing, but that didn’t stop White House press secretary Jen Psaki from calling their actions “horrific” and President Joe Biden from vowing to make them “pay.”
The Department of Homeland Security even changed its policy to temporarily suspend agents from using horses at the border.
“It’s insane that this is where the narrative has gone,” Anfinsen said. “In the situation, they were doing their job. There are allegations they were whipping people. We don’t carry whips. Those were reins, and no reins were used to whip anybody. Simple as that.”
Anfinsen said the Biden administration is only villainizing Border Patrol because it helps them distract from the real problem: the worsening immigration crisis.
“Now there’s an incident where they can detract from the fact that they weren’t paying attention,” he said. “They can point the blame at these agents on the ground and deflect any blame … onto these agents who were doing their job.”
Several Border Patrol agents said they were stunned at how quickly the Biden administration threw them to the wolves.
“You go to work and do your best knowing that if you do your boss is going to ‘make you pay’?” one agent told Fox News last week. “I’m dumbfounded and don’t know what to say.”
Another agent said: “I see the administration wants to fry our agents. He just started a war with Border Patrol.”
