(Tony Sifert, HeadlineUSA) Lifelong Democrats in President Biden’s hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania, are worried about his physical health and cognitive decline, and don’t want him to run again in 2024, according to Washington Examiner commentary editor Daniel Allott.
Allott traveled to Scranton in December to get a sense of whether Biden’s Build Back Better agenda was resonating in his blue collar hometown, but found that even the name of the so-called “champion of the working class” barely registered.
“The main feeling Biden’s connection to Scranton seems to elicit is not pride but indifference,” Allott wrote.
One Scrantonite laughed when Allott mentioned that Biden was from Scranton.
“The Scranton connection is something that gets brought out every time it’s convenient,” the man said. “He’s more of a Delaware guy than Scranton guy, you know?”
Another man argued the connection was meaningless because “some of the stuff he says and the way he says it frowns upon people from here.”
Even among lifelong Biden supporters there was a distinct lack of enthusiasm for another dose of Uncle Joe.
“Love him,” one women told Allott. “But I don’t want to see him run again.”
Others expressed dismay at Biden’s physical and cognitive decline.
“This physical thing has really shaken me,” said lifelong Democrat Ralph Mercuri. “He scares me right now. And he’s more forgetful now and more rigid in his thinking.”
Allot talked to 12 Biden supporters and found that only three wanted him to run for office again.
And their indifference, Allott said, “should be cause for alarm inside the White House and Democratic Party.”
“The Democrats’ problem is that amid the class realignment going on in American politics, Scranton is the type of place that is moving away from them,” Allott wrote.
“As Democrats continue to lurch leftward on cultural issues, they’re alienating the socially moderate and conservative voters who predominate in Scranton and places like it,” Allott continued.
