(Robert Jonathan, Headline USA) Authorities have charged a woman with murder for allegedly killing her husband after the couple bickered in their home during a Facebook Live stream.
The shooting, which was broadcast on social media, occurred in Lowndes County, Mississippi, in the Columbus area. The investigation remains ongoing as local law-enforcement officials await the results of an autopsy.
According to a statement from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, the argument early Saturday morning between Kadejah Michelle Brown and Jeremy Brown, both 28, “turned physical,” and that “This incident was captured on audio / video on Facebook live.”
A preliminary investigation determined that Jeremy Brown died at the scene from a single gunshot wound. Deputies, who were responding to a domestic violence call, also found a handgun and a shell casing in the home, WLBT reported.
Kadejah Brown is being held at the Lowndes County jail subject to a court-imposed bond of $750,000.
In a video uploaded to YouTube that purports to be the livestream in question, she is heard accusing her husband—who apparently was in the process of leaving the apartment to go to work—of spending insufficient time taking care of the kids.
At one point in the escalating quarrel, Jeremy can be heard telling his wife stop touching him.
The disturbing footage goes audio-only before a shot rings out and one or more kids start crying along with screaming adults.
Prior to the gunshot, Kadejah can be heard saying “I’ll kill your a**, b**ch,” the Daily Mail reported.
In the immediate aftermath, she also seems to say “I don’t wanna go to jail,” although the audio is far from clear.
A grandmother was apparently also in the room at the time of the confrontation.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told the Columbus-based Commercial Dispatch that “The phone had been thrown down, and then you heard the shot.”
In the statement from the law-enforcement agency, Hawkins added that the couple had a troubled marriage.
“There was a history of domestic violence between Brown and the victim,” said the statement.
“This was a tragic and senseless murder and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victim,” it continued. “Fortunately, [Kadejah] Brown is in custody and we look forward to the criminal justice system holding her accountable.”
It has not been determined as to why the quarrel went live on Facebook in the first place. The sheriff told CBS Jackson affiliate WCBI that the Browns had spent much of the previous evening arguing.
The couple, who celebrated their anniversary earlier this month, apparently were the parents of four kids.
