A German Santa Claus was detained by police for failing to comply with COVID protocols, Newsweek reported.
While the fate of the Santa was unclear, the arrest comes amid growing alarm as some European countries—including Germany—implement harsh, Draconian policies that justifiably have been compared with Nazi-era concentration camps.
Police claimed that the Weihnachtsmann was not arrested due to the lack of a mask, as was initially reported—but instead, it appears that they were simply looking for a reason to detain him.
UPDATE – “Santa Claus” was not detained for not wearing a mask, but for protesting Covid restrictions and failing to provide ID to the police.

According to a police spokesman, the Santa Claus and others surrounding him were gathered illegally to protest Germany’s continuing Corona lockdowns.
“About 65 people gathered without registration with posters and candles on the Old Market Square in Stralsund,” he said. “They apparently expressed their opinions against the current corona measures and mandatory vaccination.”
The German police assured people that the protest was merely a meeting of people that was not registered with the state, which is apparently illegal.
“For this reason, the police officers of the police district Stralsund and Grimmen determined the personal details of those present,” the spokesman continued. “The background is that an unregistered meeting is a criminal offense under the Assembly Act.”
The police justified their imprisonment of Santa because he “expressed his opinion with a poster” as “an actor in the assembly.”
Earlier this month the enervated state announced a lockdown of the unvaccinated, led by out-going Chancellor Angela Merkel.
“We have understood that the situation is very serious and that we want to take further measures in addition to those already taken,” she said when asked about her decision to lock down only certain classes of people.
“To do this, the fourth wave must be broken and this has not yet been achieved.”
