(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) Over the past few years, around a hundred Chinese spies have managed to find a way to sneak into sites across the United States that are of importance to national security, which resulted in them leaking secret information to the Chinese Communist Party.
In a lot of cases, the spies’ attempts have been unsuccessful since they’ve been caught taking pictures or otherwise recording their surroundings, which led to officials suggesting that they were working for the CCP, the Wall Street Journal reported.
In recent years, tensions between China and the US have risen dramatically, resulting in the latter fearing that the former started using civilians to dig up potentially sensitive information that could give the CCP an upper hand.
Approximately 10,000 “controlled turnarounds” are recorded at military bases across the country that mostly involved people who simply took a wrong turn. However, some factors that were found have sparked further investigation.
Among those concerning factors were Chinese people being spotted taking pictures at U.S. army ranges, swimming near military facilities and even using drones to obtain aerial footage of sites.
There were also some cases of Chinese spies in the past being caught red-handed. In 2020, three people from China were arrested after they illegally entered a naval air base in Key West, Florida., which resulted in them pleading guilty and being sentenced to around a year in prison.
Another case happened in Cape Canaveral, which is the site of the Kennedy Space Center. In another case, even though none of the trespassers were charged with espionage, two couples were ordered to leave the country in 2019 after they attempted to drive into a military base in Virginia.
“[The CCP] is engaged in a broad, diverse campaign of theft and malign influence without regard to laws or international norms,” the FBI said.
As expected, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C. dismissed the allegations by calling them “purely ill-intentioned fabrications” and continued gaslighting the American people.
“We urge the relevant US officials to abandon the Cold War mentality, stop groundless accusations and do more things that are conducive to enhancing mutual trust between the two countries and friendship between the two peoples,” a spokesperson said.
