(Headline USA) The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said it is still waiting on key pieces of evidence, including information stored on actor Alec Baldwin’s cellphone, to wrap up its investigation into the fatal shooting that occurred on the set of “Rust” last year.
Baldwin shot two people, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, after the gun he was holding on set discharged live rounds. This week, the law enforcement officials investigating the cause of the shooting released all bodycam footage, crime scene photos, witness interviews, and text messages obtained, but noted that there’s still more work to do.
“We’re still waiting on the forensics from the FBI crime lab, along with the final report from the office of the medical investigator, and there’s a few things that we need to sure up with the investigation,” Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza emphasized.

However, Mendoza also noted that the evidence he has already compiled is enough to prove a “degree of negligence” on the part of the movie’s producers, including Baldwin.
“It’s hard to determine right now the route that the case is going to go,” Mendoza said. “I’ve said this before, I think there was complacency on the set. There was disorganization and a degree of negligence – whether that rises to a criminal level, that’ll be up to the district attorney.”
Baldwin’s level of responsibility will have to be determined by the district attorney, he added.
Baldwin has denied any wrongdoing, blaming the movie’s armorer instead for handing him a gun that contained live rounds.
The armorer, Hanna Gutierrez Reed, has laid the responsibility at Baldwin’s feet, saying he deliberately ignored several gun safety rules on set even though he was aware that his weapon would contain live rounds.
