(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Actor Sam Elliott has released an apology for calling the western film The Power of the Dog a “piece of *s**t,” Breitbart reported.
“I wasn’t very articulate about it…” Elliott said during a panel apperance to promote his show, 1883. “And I said some things that hurt people and I feel terrible about that.”
Elliott then addressed the gay community directly.
“The gay community has been incredible to me my entire career,” he said.
“And I mean my entire career, from before I got started in this town. Friends on every level and every job description up until today. I’m sorry I hurt any of those friends and someone that I loved. And anyone else by the words that I used.”
“I want to apologize to the cast of The Power of the Dog,’ brilliant actors all,” Elliott concluded. “And in particular Benedict Cumberbatch. I can only say that I’m sorry and I am. I am.”
Elliott slammed the Academy Award-nominated movie in a podcast interview.
Marc Maron: Did you see Power of the Dog, did you see that movie?
Sam Elliott: Yeah do you wanna talk about that piece of shit?
Marc: [ohh noo] You didn’t like that one?
Sam: Fuck no. pic.twitter.com/BGdOd6scwe— Jonathan (@jonathanmb32) February 28, 2022
“You want to talk about that piece of s**t?” Elliott told Marc Maron on the WTF podcast.
“You didn’t like that one?” Maron replied.
‘“F**k no. I’ll tell you why I didn’t like it anyway,” Elliott said.
“They’re all running around in chaps and no shirts. There’s all these allusions to homosexuality throughout the f**king movie,” he said.
Elliot went on to refer to the director, Jane Campion, as “brilliant,” but felt she was not a good person to direct a western film.
“What the f**k does this woman—she’s a brilliant director by the way, I love her work, previous work—but what the f**k does this woman from down there, New Zealand, know about the American West?,” he said.
“And why in the f**k does she shoot this movie in New Zealand and call it Montana and say, ‘This is the way it was.’ That f**king rubbed me the wrong way, pal.”
