RON JOHNSON: Whitmer Hoax Raises Questions on FBI’s Role in Jan. 6 Capitol Revolt

'So you think the FBI had fully infiltrated the militias in Michigan, but they don’t know squat about what was happening on Jan. 6...'

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., suggested this weekend that the FBI knew more about the planning of the Jan. 6 US Capitol uprising than it has let on

As evidence the bureau’s right-wing entrapment efforts, Johnson cited the plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, which the FBI reportedly played a major role in engineering.

“I don’t say this publicly, but are you watching what’s happening in Michigan?” Johnson said, according to the Washington Post

“… So you think the FBI had fully infiltrated the militias in Michigan, but they don’t know squat about what was happening on Jan. 6, or what was happening with these groups?” he continued. “I’d say there is way more to the story.”

More than a dozen FBI agents infiltrated the Wisconsin anti-government group—and then worked to recruit and train new members, according to a recent investigation by Buzzfeed News.

In one instance, a Wisconsin-based government informant helped organize a series of cross-country meetings with the ‘militia’ members. That same informant also paid for their hotel rooms and food.

Johnson said this report should force Americans to question the FBI’s role in the Capitol riot as well.

“I’m just pushing back on that narrative,” he said, slamming the media for “painting 75 million Americans who voted for Trump as attached with domestic terrorists.”

Several other Republicans have pointed out that the FBI and Justice Department already lost the benefit of the doubt because of its role in the debunked Russia-Gate hoax and other botched, partisan investigations.
