Newsom Tells His State’s Citizens to Not Pay Their Taxes

(Luis CornelioHeadline USA) California Gov. Gavin Newsom suggested on Friday that his state may refuse to pay federal taxes in retaliation for President Donald Trump’s threats to slash funding for the Golden State.

“Californians pay the bills for the federal government. We pay over $80 BILLION more in taxes than we get back. Maybe it’s time to cut that off,” Newsom wrote on X, without explaining what power, if any, he has to take such action. Tax evasion is a federal crime, and Newsom has no legal authority power to protect Californians from prosecution.

The governor was responding to a CNN report that Trump may yank grants to the University of California and California State University systems.

White House spokesperson Kush Desai defended the potential cuts, stating that “no taxpayer should be forced to fund the demise of our country.”

He added, “No final decisions, however, on any potential future action by the Administration have been made, and any discussion suggesting otherwise should be considered pure speculation.”

Trump’s threatened education cuts would follow the administration’s $126.4 million reduction in California flood-prevention projects.

ADL Calls to Ban ‘Anti-Zionists’ Online after Colorado Attacks against Jews

(José Niño, Headline USA) A weekend of violence in Colorado has prompted demands from pro-Zionist advocacy groups for tougher measures against antisemitic and anti-Zionist content online.

Late on Sunday, a group of pro-Israel activists were reportedly attacked by Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a 45-year-old Egyptian national. The suspect allegedly used a flamethrower and Molotov cocktails during the assault, which left several individuals injured.

Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, addressed the Colorado incident on Fox News Monday, calling for “anti-Zionists” to be banned from social media platforms “once and for all.”

Soliman’s entry into the United States has itself become a point of contention, as he was previously identified by Trump administration officials as having overstayed his visa, but was reportedly permitted to remain and even granted a work permit under the Biden administration.

Former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, known for his work with HIAS and close ties to the ADL, has been cited in discussions about the case, with critics alleging that more stringent immigration vetting could have prevented the incident.

Shortly after the attack, Greenblatt appeared on CBS News on Monday to address the broader implications of the incident.

Speaking with anchor Vlad Duthiers, Greenblatt argued that the current climate—marked by inflammatory rhetoric from both graduation speakers and social media influencers—has created fertile ground for hate.

He specifically singled out figures like Hasan Piker on Twitch, as well as other social media influencers on TikTok and Instagram, for what he described as spreading baseless claims about Jews, Zionists, and Israelis.

Greenblatt warned that the situation could spiral out of control if tech platforms fail to act decisively, urging both companies and regulators to step up their efforts. He insisted that social media giants, which he characterized as “too big to fail” and “almost monopolistic,” must take responsibility for the proliferation of hateful content that can escalate into real-world violence.

Greenblatt’s demands for stricter moderation included calls to remove not only Nazis but also anti-Zionists from major platforms, a stance he reiterated during an interview with Fox News. He praised the Trump administration for its tough approach to hate crimes and expressed hope for continued strong action against those who promote antisemitism or anti-Zionism.

During this same interview, Greenblatt proclaimed that “anti-Zionism” is not “a legitimate political argument.” Further, the ADL CEO added that “In too many places we are told that anti-Zionism is a legitimate political argument — it is not. Hate is hate.”

BREAKING: ‘Maryland Man’ Back in the U.S. to Face Human Trafficking Charges

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) The now-infamous “Maryland man” Kilmar Abrego Garcia has been returned to the U.S. to faces charges of trafficking immigrants into the country, nearly three months after the Trump administration deported him to his native El Salvador in contravention of a judge’s decision.

The charges stem from a 2022 vehicle stop in which the Tennessee Highway Patrol suspected him of human trafficking. A report released by the Department of Homeland Security in April states that none of the people in the vehicle had luggage, while they listed the same address as Abrego Garcia.

Abrego Garcia is the El Salvador national who was deported in March on the grounds that he’s a suspected MS-13 gang member. Abrego Garcia was deported despite the fact that an immigration judge granted him special protection from removal around 2019, on the grounds that a local gang in El Salvador was extorting his family. The mainstream media has often referred to the alleged MS-13 gang member simply as a “Maryland man.”

Along with charging Abrego Garcia, the DOJ is now also probing why the FBI ordered the Tennessee Highway Patrol to release him during a traffic stop in 2022—when he was found to have been driving a vehicle with eight individuals who had been allegedly smuggled into the U.S.

According to ABC News, the DOJ interviewed the owner of the vehicle Abrego Garcia was driving in 2022. That man, Jose Ramon Hernandez Reyes, is also an illegal immigrant and accused human smuggler.  ABC News said federal agents interviewed him late last month at the Federal Correctional Institution in Talladega, Alabama. Reyes was reportedly given “limited immunity” to talk about Abrego Garcia.

“Hernandez-Reyes told investigators that he previously operated a ‘taxi service’ based in Baltimore. He claimed to have met Abrego Garcia around 2015 and claimed to have hired him on multiple occasions to transport undocumented migrants from Texas to various locations in the United States,” ABC reported, citing anonymous sources familiar with the investigation.

“The frequency and time frame of the alleged trips was not immediately clear,” ABC reported. “It’s unclear whether prosecutors will ultimately gather enough evidence to bring charges against Abrego Garcia. The interview of Hernandez-Reyes, however, appears to be a new and aggressive step in the government’s efforts to gather potentially incriminating information about Abrego Garcia’s background.”

Biden Physician Ordered before Panel on Anniversary of Pivotal Debate

(The Center Square) Dr. Kevin O’Connor, former president Joe Biden’s physician, has been subpoenaed by a U.S. House of Representatives panel investigating the physical and mental fitness of the 46th president.

Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, ordered O’Connor to appear for a deposition on June 27 as part of the investigation into Biden’s “cognitive decline.” The date, ironically enough, is one year to the day his only debate with Donald Trump went horribly wrong leading to an eventual withdrawal from the campaign on July 21.

Previously, Comer “requested” O’Connor to appear voluntarily for a transcribed interview but he refused. The chairman also noted that in the last Congress he requested the physician to take part in a transcribed interview, but Comer’s request was blocked by the Biden White House.

In a letter to O’Connor, Comer highlighted an assessment made by the physician in February 2024, months before the former president’s debate performance, that led to withdrawing from the race. The chairman noted that O’Connor said Biden was “’a healthy, active, robust 81-year-old male, who remains fit to successfully execute the duties of the presidency.’”

Comer said the committee was also interested in exploring the physician’s “financial relationship with the Biden family” and whether it impacted his assessment of the former president’s physical and mental fitness “to fulfill his duties as president.”

Comer concluded, “Given your connections with the Biden family, the committee sought to understand if you contributed to an effort to hide former President Biden’s fitness to serve from the American people. You refused the committee’s request. However, to advance the committee’s oversight and legislative responsibilities and interests, your testimony is critical.”

In addition to O’Connor, Comer has sent letters to five former senior Biden White House aides, “demanding they appear for transcribed interviews.”

The chairman is seeking answers on the “potentially unauthorized issuance of sweeping pardons and other executive action.”

The subpoena comes on the heels of President Donald Trump issuing an order directing his counsel, the attorney general, and heads of relevant executive agencies to investigate “whether certain individuals conspired to deceive the public about Biden’s mental state.”

The president is asking whether an autopen was used to carry out executive actions, including executive orders, clemency grants, pardons, and presidential memoranda, and who directed the president’s signatures to be affixed to the documents.

The investigation furthers the debate as to whether the pardons and actions could be voided. Like Trump, Comer calls for transparency, calling the “cover-up” a significant scandal in American history.

“The American people deserve full transparency and the House Oversight Committee is conducting a thorough investigation to provide answers and accountability,” Comer said. “The cover-up of President Biden’s mental decline is one of the greatest scandals in our nation’s history.

“These five former senior advisors were eyewitnesses to President Biden’s condition and operations within the Biden White House. They must appear before the House Oversight Committee and provide truthful answers about President Biden’s cognitive state and who was calling the shots.”

The investigations have been fueled in part by a book written by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, “Original Sin,” which the congressman quoted as claiming, “Five people were running the country, and Joe Biden was at best a senior member of the board.”

Another book, written by former Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, is due in the fall. Entitled “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines,” the combative Biden staffer says she has left the Democratic Party and become an independent. The book’s publisher has promised a run through the three weeks leading up to Biden withdrawing from pursuit of reelection.

DOJ Said It Was ‘Too Busy’ to Investigate Epstein Victim’s Complaint against FBI, Lawsuit Says

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) In a newly filed lawsuit, one of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims has accused the Justice Department of ignoring her complaints against the FBI for allowing Epstein to operate with impunity.

The victim, Maria Farmer, first filed her complaint against Epstein with the FBI in 1996, only to have it ignored for the next 20-plus years.

In her lawsuit filed last Thursday and first reported by Court Watch, Farmer said she wrote to the FBI, U.S. Attorney, and DOJ Inspector General in May 2023, asking to investigate the bureau’s previous failures in the Epstein case. According to Farmer’s lawsuit, the DOJ Inspector General told her about a week later that while the allegations raised were “concerning,” they had other “priorit[ies] right now,” so could not “further assess” Maria’s allegations until later.

Last December, Farmer said the DOJ followed up with her to say that her complaint was being closed.

“DOJ explained in a letter that the FBI’s Internal Affairs Section/Initial Processing Unit [IAS/IPU] had ‘carefully reviewed’ Maria’s allegations, did ‘not initiate’ an investigation, and could not reveal “specific[s],” but “IAS mandated action be [sic] taken to address the concerns raised in your complaint,’” Farmer’s lawsuit said. “The FBI concluded, ‘[T]he United States Department of Justice, Office of the Inspector General, IAS/IPU considers your complaint addressed.’”

Farmer added that little has changed under the Trump administration.

“Although there have been broad statements about making sure that ‘the American public knows the full weight of what happened in the past,’ no substantive revelations have been made,” she said.

Farmer is suing the U.S. government for negligence, and she seeks monetary damages. Hers is one of several ongoing lawsuits stemming from the Epstein scandal.

In a separate case, the FBI has asked a district judge to dismiss a lawsuit from 17 anonymous Epstein victims on the grounds that the bureau had the discretion to let Epstein remain free for decades.

“The FBI maintains discretion in how to follow-up on tips of criminal conduct. Courts have made it clear that decisions by FBI employees on whether to investigate and follow-up on information they received from the public are ones in which the FBI is afforded broad discretion,” the Justice Department argued in its February motion to dismiss.

The parties in that lawsuit are scheduled to have a hearing later this month.

Undercover Spies Pretending to be Disabled are Targeting College Students

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) The University of Michigan has spent at least $800,000 on a private security firm to spy on pro-Palestine student groups, according to a new report from The Guardian. The private security firm, City Shield, is reportedly using controversial tactics, with one investigator even pretending to be retarded when his cover was blown.

“The surveillance appears to largely be an intimidation tactic,” The Guardian reported Friday, citing interviews with five students who were followed. “The undercover investigators have cursed at students, threatened them and in one case drove a car at a student who had to jump out of the way.”

The Guardian didn’t have footage of the alleged car assault, but it did have video of a student confronting one of his alleged stalkers. When confronted, the man pretended to be retarded. When that didn’t work, he started yelling and accusing the student of trying to mug him.

One student reportedly counted 30 different people following him.

The students, for their part, said the tactics concerned them—though the buffoonish private spies did amuse them.

“It sometimes feels comedic because it’s so insane that they have spent millions of dollars to hire some goons to follow campus activists around,” one of the students said. “It’s just such a waste of money and time.”

City Shield didn’t respond to The Guardian’s request for comment. A college spokesperson reportedly said the university “does not condone or tolerate any behavior by employees or contractors that demeans individuals or communities, including those with disabilities. The comment referenced in the video does not reflect the university’s values or expectations for respectful conduct.”

The Guardian’s report comes in the wake of the University of Michigan authorizing the state’s Democratic attorney general, Dana Nessel, and the FBI to conduct raids on the college’s students. No charges were filed in those raids, which were thought to be related to a crackdown on anti-Israel demonstrators.

Members of Congress Introduce Comprehensive U.S. Gold Audit Legislation

(Sound Money Defense League, Money Metals News Service) As U.S. debt soars and foreign central banks stockpile gold, four members of Congress today introduced a bill to require the first comprehensive audit of America’s gold reserve in decades.

Sponsored by Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Addison McDowell (R-NC), and Warren Davidson (R-OH), the Gold Reserve Transparency Act (H.R. 3795) would require a full assay, inventory, and audit of all United States gold holdings.

Importantly, H.R. 3795 will also require full disclosure of all transactions involving America’s gold, including any purchases, sales, loans, pledges, leases, swaps, and other encumbrances, dating back 50 years. Such activities have not been publicly disclosed.

“Americans deserve transparency and accountability from the institutions that underpin our currency,” said Rep. Thomas Massie.

“It’s been literally decades since actual inventories and assays have been conducted with respect to the U.S. gold reserve, and the Department of the Treasury has lost records as well as failed to account for many occasions when vault compartments were inexplicably opened and resealed without new audits,” said Stefan Gleason, CEO of Money Metals Depository.

“The lack of proper audits of America’s gold is highly alarming and totally unacceptable – such shoddy procedures would never pass muster in the private sector,” continued Gleason, whose company operates a maximum-security gold and silver vault in Idaho that is twice the size of the U.S. Bullion Depository at Fort Knox. “Even if a credible audit had been conducted several decades ago, auditing is never a ‘one and done’ affair.”

The gold audit bill comes in an environment where some nations are growing concerned about their gold stored in the United States, or who prefer to hold their gold domestically. For example, leaders in Germany are calling for the repatriation of their gold held in the custody of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

An inquiry into America’s sound money stockpile is more relevant than ever, given an inflationary environment where $37 trillion in U.S. federal debt looms large and given that many central banks have been accumulating gold at record rates over the last few years.

Jp Cortez, executive director of the Sound Money Defense League, said, “Now is the time for transparency surrounding America’s gold. As gold is the ultimate form of money recognized the world over, safeguarding the U.S. Treasury Department’s holdings of the yellow metal is very much a national security issue.”

“Only a thorough audit, not a public-relations stunt such as the ‘live walkthrough’ as Elon Musk and others proposed, will suffice,” he concluded. “This situation requires far more than a fun one-day field trip by politicians to Fort Knox, West Point, and other U.S. Treasury vaults.”

To fulfill their obligations under the Gold Reserve Transparency Act, the Government Accountability Office and external independent auditors would gain access to any depository or other public or private depositories where gold reserves are kept, as well as related records. The process is expected to take up to a year to complete and will be repeated every five years.

Rep. Massie has frequently been a leader on issues related to sound money. The full text of H.R. 3795 can be found here.

Judge’s Order Leaves ICE Agents Stranded in Hostile Territory

(Headline USAMigrants placed on a deportation flight originally bound for South Sudan are now being held in a converted shipping container on a U.S. naval base in Djibouti, where the men and their guards are contending with baking hot temperatures, smoke from nearby burn pits and the looming threat of rocket attacks, the Trump administration said.

Officials outlined grim conditions in court documents filed Thursday before a federal judge overseeing a lawsuit challenging Immigration and Customs Enforcement efforts to swiftly remove migrants to countries they didn’t come from.

Authorities landed the flight at the base in Djibouti, about 1,000 miles from South Sudan, more than two weeks ago after U.S. District Judge Brian E. Murphy in Boston found the Trump administration had violated his order by swiftly sending eight migrants from countries including Cuba and Vietnam to the east African nation.

The judge said that men from other countries must have a real chance to raise fears about dangers they could face in South Sudan.

The migrants have been previously convicted of serious crimes in the U.S., and President Donald Trump’s administration has said that it was unable to return them quickly to their home countries. The Justice Department has also appealed to the Supreme Court to immediately intervene and allow swift deportations to third countries to resume.

The case comes amid a sweeping immigration crackdown by the Republican administration, which has pledged to deport millions of people who are living in the United States illegally. The legal fight became another flashpoint as the administration rails against judges whose rulings have slowed the president’s policies.

The Trump administration said the converted conference room in the shipping container is the only viable place to house the men on the base in Djibouti, where outdoor daily temperatures rise above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the declaration from an ICE official.

Nearby burn pits are used to dispose of trash and human waste, and the smog cloud makes it hard to breathe, sickening both ICE officers guarding the men and the detainees, the documents state. They don’t have access to all the medication they need to protect against infection, and the ICE officers were unable to complete anti-malarial treatment before landing, an ICE official said.

“It is unknown how long the medical supply will last,” Mellissa B. Harper, acting executive deputy associate director of enforcement and removal operations, said in the declaration.

The group also lacks protective gear in case of a rocket attack from terrorist groups in Yemen, a risk outlined by the Department of Defense, the documents state.

Marshals Say ‘Devil in the Ozarks’ Who Escaped Arkansas Prison Has Likely Fled State

(Headline USA) Investigators believe that a convicted murderer and former police chief known as the “Devil in the Ozarks” has likely fled Arkansas after escaping from prison last month, a federal court filing released this week shows.

A criminal complaint filed in federal court in Little Rock against Grant Hardin, who escaped prison last month, was released this week. Authorities have said Hardin escaped the Calico Rock prison in Arkansas by donning an outfit designed to look like a law enforcement uniform.

In the complaint, Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert J. Hammons cites two previously publicized unconfirmed sightings of Hardin — one in central Arkansas and another in southern Missouri.

“Based on this information, investigators believe Hardin has fled the state of Arkansas to avoid recapture,” the filing said. “He has extensive knowledge of the Ozark Mountain region, where he is believed to be possibly hiding in caves or rugged terrain that he is familiar with.”

The complaint, first reported by The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, does not detail any other sightings of Hardin or evidence of him fleeing the state. Arkansas authorities have previously said they’re focusing on north-central Arkansas and tips of sightings elsewhere so far have not panned out.

Hardin, a former police chief in the small town of Gateway near the Arkansas-Missouri border, was serving lengthy sentences for murder and rape. He was the subject of the TV documentary “Devil in the Ozarks.”

Hardin was housed in a maximum-security wing of the primarily medium security prison, formally known as the North Central Unit. Officials are investigating whether a job Hardin held in the kitchen helped in his escape, including whether it gave him access to materials he could have used to fashion his makeshift uniform.

The Arkansas Department of Corrections this week released a new photo rendering of Hardin, depicting what he may look like now.

Trump Suggests Ukraine and Russia Should ‘Fight for a Little While’

(Dave DeCamp, Antiwar.comPresident Trump on Thursday suggested that Russia and Ukraine should maybe “fight for a little while” as the recent efforts for a peace deal appear to be making little progress.

Trump made the comments to reporters in the Oval Office while hosting German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and compared the war in Ukraine to a fight between children.

“Sometimes you see two young children fighting like crazy,” he said. “They hate each other, and they’re fighting in a park, and you try and pull them apart. They don’t want to be pulled. Sometimes you’re better off letting them fight for a while and then pulling them apart.”

Trump said he made the analogy in his phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin this week. “I said, ‘President, maybe you’re going to have to keep fighting and suffering a lot,’ because both sides are suffering before you pull them apart, before they’re able to be pulled apart,” he said.

After the call with Putin on Wednesday, Trump said that the Russian leader told him Moscow would have to respond to the Ukrainian drone attack on Russian airfields, and said there would likely not be “immediate peace.”

In his remarks on Thursday, Trump suggested he could sanction both Russia and Ukraine if a peace deal isn’t reached. “When I see the moment where it’s not going to stop … we’ll be very, very tough,” he said. “And it could be on both countries, to be honest. It takes two to tango.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been demanding new US sanctions on Russia and made the call again on Thursday. “We do count on strong steps. That’s what’s in short supply right now. And this is what can make even the sleazebags in Moscow realize they can’t pull the war off,” Zelensky wrote on X.

“This is why we need new and sufficient sanctions, first and foremost from the United States. This is why we need clear political pressure for diplomacy to be effective,” the Ukrainian leader added.

In the meantime, the US continues to provide military aid and intelligence support to Ukraine to fuel the proxy war. Ukraine has been stepping up attacks on Russian territory, which always risks a major escalation.
