Average Cost of Family Insurance Nears $27,000 a Year

(The Center Square) Average family health insurance premiums rose 6% in 2025, nearing $27,000, underscoring consistent increases and warning of more hikes ahead.

Higher healthcare spending, including increased hospital and drug prices, is driving up the cost of coverage, according to an annual survey from the nonprofit KFF. For most American families, $27,000 is a lot of money. The median household income was $83,730 in 2024. In the September, the average price of a new vehicle in the U.S. topped $50,000, according to Kelley Blue Book. A Toyota Camry costs about 27,000, so does a hybrid Toyota Corolla. The best selling vehicle in the U.S., a Ford F-150, costs about $39,000.

On average, workers contribute $6,850 a year to the cost of family coverage. Employers pick up the rest. Family premiums have increased by 6%, or $1,408, from last year. That’s similar to the 7% increase recorded in each of the previous two years. The 2025 increase compares to general inflation of 2.7% and wage growth of 4% over the same period, according to KFF’s report.

The 26% cumulative increase in family premiums over the past five years is similar to inflation (23.5%) and wage growth (28.6%). Next year could be worse. Over the past 10 years, the growth in the average premium for family coverage far outpaced inflation (53% vs. 35.8%), the report noted. Over the same time period, the average family premium (53%) grew faster than average wages (48.2%).

“Many employers may be bracing for higher costs next year, with insurers requesting double-digit increases in the small-group and individual markets on average, possibly foreshadowing big increases in the large-group markets as well,” according to the report.

KFF President and CEO Drew Altman said deductibles and other employee costs could increase.

“Employers have nothing new in their arsenal that can address most of the drivers of their cost increases, and that could well result in an increase in deductibles and other forms of employee cost sharing again, a strategy that neither employers nor employees like but companies resort to in a pinch to hold down premium increases,” he said.

Employer-sponsored health insurance is the primary source of coverage for U.S. residents under the age of 65. Overall, 60% of people younger than 65 – about 164.7 million people – had employer-sponsored health insurance in 2023. That coverage varies widely with income and other factors, according to KFF.

KFF surveyed 1,800 employers with at least 10 workers.

The survey found that 29% of covered workers are enrolled in high-deductible health plans that can be used in conjunction with a tax-preferred Health Savings Account. Among workers who face an annual deductible for single coverage, the 2025 average stands at $1,886, compared to $1,773 in 2024. Deductibles have increased by 17% since 2020, when the average was $1,617.

However, that figure varies significantly based on the size of the employer. On average, workers with a deductible at small firms (fewer than 200 workers) face larger deductibles than those at larger firms ($2,631 vs. $1,670). More than half (53%) of covered workers at small firms now face a deductible of at least $2,000, and more than a third (36%) face an average single deductible of at least $3,000, according to the KFF report.

The average premiums for covered workers in high-deductible health plans with a savings option are lower than the overall average premiums for both single coverage ($8,620) and family coverage ($25,379). By contrast, average premiums for covered workers enrolled in PPOs are higher than the overall average premiums for both single ($9,818) and family coverage ($28,272).

Most covered workers contribute directly to the cost of the premium. On average, covered workers contribute 16% of the premium for single coverage and 26% of the premium for family coverage, similar to the percentages contributed in 2024.

Jewish Leader Compares Tucker Carlson to Nazi-Era Broadcaster

(José Niño, Headline USA) The president of the World Jewish Congress made an extraordinary historical comparison at a Manhattan gala, likening prominent conservative media figures like Tucker Carlson to antisemitic voices that dominated American airwaves during the 1930s.

Ronald Lauder used the organization’s annual Theodor Herzl Award gala last Monday to sound an alarm about what he described as a dangerous resurgence of antisemitism in American public discourse. 

His remarks targeted Carlson, drawing an explicit parallel to Father Charles Coughlin, whose antisemitic radio broadcasts in the 1930s reached millions.

“Father Coughlin was the Tucker Carlson of the 1930s and radio was a Tik Tok and YouTube of the era,” Lauder told the assembled guests, during his speech at the event.

The cosmetics heir and prominent Republican donor did not stop with historical analogy. He continued by describing what he views as a repeating pattern. “Today, we see a similar pattern playing right in front of our eyes,” he said. “Big names with millions of followers are using the same old lies that Jews control the government, the media, our nation’s foreign policies. The same lies our parents and grandparents heard. Only now it’s been adopted by young people who have been indoctrinated in this.”

His remarks came amid significant turmoil within conservative organizations like the Heritage Foundation over Carlson’s recent three hour interview with Nick Fuentes, as Headline USA previously covered. During that conversation, Fuentes expressed views that Jews are unassimilatable and claimed that organized Jewry in America poses challenges to social harmony.

The fallout proved swift and divisive. According to the Washington Post, multiple organizations resigned from the Heritage Foundation’s Project Esther antisemitism task force after the organization’s president defended Carlson. 

Lauder used his platform to advocate for sweeping legislative changes in American education. He argued that establishing more Jewish schools represents an insufficient response to rising antisemitism per a report by Jewish Insider. “The entire education system — K-12 to college — must be retaught. Laws must be passed that will focus on no racism, no antisemitism and no anti-Western civilization being taught,” Lauder proclaimed. 

The gala honored Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., and Sen. John Fetterman, D-P.a., with the organization’s highest recognition for their dedication to combating antisemitism. 

Lauder praised both for standing publicly in defense of Israel and the Jewish people when others remained silent or sided with terror groups. Stefanik, who announced her candidacy for New York governor shortly afterward, vowed to continue fighting until every Jewish student can walk across campus without fear. 

Fetterman, appearing via video because of a Senate vote, called standing with Israel the proudest achievement of his Senate career, according to a recap by the World Jewish Congress.

NYT Personality Busted for Giving Advice to Dems

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) New York Times columnist Ezra Klein has been busted coaching Democrats ahead of the 2028 presidential election, reinforcing the leftist bias that runs rampant at the newspaper. 

Klein, who hosts a popular progressive podcast and writes highly influential columns, appears to have drawn some criticism from within the Times itself for his openly partisan positions. 

According to Axios, Klein has privately met with several potential 2028 presidential candidates, including former Vice President Kamala Harris, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.  

He also courted Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and even briefed Senate Democrats during their summer retreat.

Axios noted that the leftist rag “typically has frowned on such actions by its journalists, even opinion columnists.” 

In remarks to the controversy, a Times spokesperson said that Klein “talks to people across the ideological spectrum.”  

The spokesperson added that “it’s essential for his reporting to have those conversations, and he approaches them as a journalist. All of this makes him an ideal opinion columnist and host.” 

Not everybody in the party is happy with Klein’s influence over politicians, with one aide to a potential presidential candidate blasting those taking cues from a media elitist. 

“You’re telling me this man who sits in a f**king West Elm-decorated office is going to be the thought leader for Democrats?” the aide said.

Texas Wants to be Reimbursed for Biden Open Border’s Cost

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA)  Members of the Texas Congressional delegation are demanding the federal government reimburse the state for the $11.1 billion it spent tackling the Biden administration’s “open-border abdication.” 

The lawmakers, including both senators and House members, made the request Friday in a three-page letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, directly blaming the previous administration for saddling Texas with the bill. 

The Republican lawmakers pointed to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which provides $13.5 billion in reimbursement funds to states that dealt with the massive influx of illegal aliens during former President Joe Biden’s tenure. 

“President Biden’s open-border policies imposed a substantial cost on communities in Texas, through increased fentanyl trafficking, crime, and even stress on local emergency response services,” they wrote. 

The lawmakers highlighted Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star, a statewide effort launched to secure the border “when the federal government would not.” 

Through the operation, Abbott ordered the deployment of state police to arrest individuals accused of state crimes and led the construction of new miles of border barriers and buoy defenses. 

Texas reported that at least 535,724 illegal aliens have been detained since the operation’s launch. Border crossings in Texas dropped 87 percent. 

“Texas’s actions through Operation Lone Star were absolutely vital to ensuring the safety and security of Americans across our great country,” the lawmakers wrote. “However, our State should not have had to bear alone the costs of securing the border when former President Biden intentionally failed to do so.” 

They continued, “We therefore respectfully ask that, as the Departments prepare to disburse the funds set aside in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the State of Texas be fully reimbursed for the costs incurred to protect Americans from illegal immigration and drug trafficking under former President Biden’s disastrous leadership.” 

The letter was signed by the following lawmakers: Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, along with August Pfluger, Pete Sessions, John Carter, Michael McCaul, Randy K. Israeli Spy Lived in Epstein’s Manhattan Apartment for Weeks

(José Niño, Headline USA) Jeffrey Epstein’s personal calendars reveal that an Israeli spy with ties to a former CIA director stayed at his Manhattan residence on multiple occasions while serving as an intermediary between American and Israeli intelligence communities.

According to a report by Dropsite News, Yoni Koren, who built his intelligence career working in covert operations alongside the Mossad and remained a lieutenant colonel in reserve duty, stayed in Epstein’s apartment for two weeks in February 2013, again for two weeks in October 2014, and a third time for ten days in September 2015.

The revelations emerge from Epstein’s personal calendars and Barak’s hacked emails, originally released by the Handala hack team.

On all three trips, Koren appeared to be conducting official or unofficial business. A Haaretz article from late January 2013 identifies him as still actively serving as the bureau chief for the Israeli Ministry of Defense that month, just weeks before his first documented stay.

After Barak retired from government, Koren continued serving as an informal intermediary between American and Israeli intelligence communities, with Barak as his handler. Email records show Barak using Koren to exchange information with AMAN, the Israeli military intelligence directorate. Koren also remained active in Epstein and Barak’s efforts to source cybersecurity startups from the technology research units of AMAN.

In February 2015, leaked emails show Barak sending Epstein bank details for funds to be wired to Koren’s Citibank account. The purpose of the transfer remains unknown, but the bank information was followed by an unusually cryptic communication between Barak and Koren regarding a physical bank card.

Days later, Koren helped arrange a private tour of the White House and Pentagon for Barak and his grandchildren. The Pentagon visit was coordinated by Jeremy Bash, former chief of staff at the CIA and Defense Department. Koren and Bash helped exchange messages and arrange meetings between their respective bosses, Barak and Leon Panetta, the former CIA director and defense secretary.

The cryptic February 2015 exchange stands out among hundreds of emails between Barak and Koren. After meeting with Epstein twice in quick succession, Barak sent Epstein an email titled “Yoni acc. Info” containing wire transfer details for a Citibank account belonging to Koren. Days later, Barak sent unusual instructions in English, a departure from the Hebrew the two men typically used, directing Koren to collect a package containing red Beats headphones from a Manhattan hotel.

“To get a refund in cash, you’ll need the card,” Barak wrote. “Email me when you collect it.”

Koren responded in Hebrew asking, “No problem, what’s her name?” Barak replied with a name that appears nowhere else in his emails. When Koren later confirmed the card had been credited with funds, Barak instructed him to “Keep the card.”

Documents leaked by Edward Snowden revealed that both men were major counterintelligence targets for the United States and that the NSA had been monitoring their communications.

Koren’s intelligence career began in the Research Division of AMAN, eventually rising to senior officer. In 1985, he worked on a covert campaign with Mossad to help Syrian intelligence kidnap PLO operatives. When Barak became IDF chief of staff in the 1990s, Koren became his bureau chief. He later served as assistant to Israel’s military attaché in Washington, coordinating with senior Pentagon contacts including Colin Powell.

While staying at Epstein’s apartment in October 2014, Koren maintained contact with spies in AMAN despite his status as a private citizen. When Barak asked him to confirm a Haaretz report about Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi with someone in AMAN, Koren returned hours later with a response. “It never happened.”

Barak wrote a eulogy for Koren after his death in January 2023, calling him “A talented intelligence officer…with endless loyalty to the role, the IDF and the state. A brave man who knew no fear, even when he stood in front of the forces of evil.”

Jeremy Bash and Barak did not respond to requests for comment.

‘Ghoul’ Katie Couric Pressures Fetterman to Badmouth Charlie Kirk

(Ben Sellers, Headline USA) White House officials and others slammed former Today show star Katie Couric for hectoring Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., to denounce slain activist Charlie Kirk in a podcast Thursday.

Fetterman, who was hospitalized on Thursday morning after falling during a morning walk, appeared on the episode of Couric’s podcast show, “Next Question,” which was published that same morning.

The focus of the show, ostensibly, was the Pennsylvania moderate’s recovery from a 2022 stroke that left him nearly incapacitated during his senatorial run, and a convalescence that spiraled him into a depression.

But Couric, an outspoken leftist, took the opportunity to try to bait Fetterman into attacking Kirk, who was assassinated on Sept. 10.

“I think some people might say Charlie Kirk’s rhetoric was extreme … People think his words lead to violence,” Couric said in her third attempt to elicit a negative soundbyte.

“I think we agree that we probably didn’t agree with much of what he said,” Fetterman replied. “But I’m sure we both agree that you shouldn’t execute them in public.”

Couric also attempted thrice to get Fetterman to call President Donald Trump “anti-democratic,” according to a recap from the Media Research Center.

“I don’t call people fascists or Nazis or compare people to Hitler,” Fetterman replied. “And I think that [the use of Godwin’s law as a campaign strategy] is part of why we lost our election last year.”

Not everyone was as diplomatic about Couric’s leading questions.

Steven Cheung, the White House director of communications, called her a “washed up idiot” and “absolute ghoul” for the brazen interrogation.

Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law, also slammed Couric during an appearance on Fox News.

“When you look at something like this Katie Couric interview … I kind of feel like this was a person who once was pretty relevant, who has lost a lot of relevance, and it seemed like her attempt was to goad Sen. Fetterman into somehow justifying Charlie’s murder to get a a ‘gotcha moment’ with him for, I don’t know, a ratings boost, some clicks on social media,” Trump said, according to Mediaite.

During her heyday, Couric performed a hat trick by anchoring the nightly news shows on all of the “Big Three” broadcast TV networks. Her last major network role was an ABC daytime talk show, Katie, which was canceled in 2014 after only two years due to low ratings.

Her image was tarnished somewhat after her longtime Today cohost, Matt Lauer was fired amid #MeToo-era allegations of sexual misconduct, raising questions as to whether she should have spoken out.

But Couric’s association with alleged sexual predators doesn’t end there.

With the recent release of files in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, scrutiny also has fallen upon “America’s sweetheart” for attending a dinner party with the pedophile financier, as well as accused sexual abusers, Charlie Rose and Woody Allen. The party was held in honor of England’s Prince Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten–Windsor after having been stripped of his titles over his association with Epstein.

Couric subsequently denied any culpability, saying “I didn’t know anything about [Epstein] at the time.”

However, the party occurred only 18 months after Epstein’s first stint in prison, a 13-month sentence in 2009 for soliciting prostitution from a minor.

Michelle Obama Says She Won’t Run Because America ‘Ain’t Ready’ for a Woman

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Former First Lady Michelle Obama bluntly rejected calls that she run for office because America “ain’t ready” for a woman president. 

Obama made the remarks Friday in a YouTube interview with actress Tracee Ellis Ross while promoting her new book, The Look.

The interview touched on the first lady’s role as an archetype of “wifedom and femininity,” before Obama veered into a tangent on broader cultural issues and the 2024 election. 

“Do you think that impacts the room that we’ve made for a woman to be president?” Ross asked.

Obama then replied, “As we saw in this past election, sadly, we ain’t ready,” before addressing individuals trying to recruit her for a run. 

“That’s why I’m like, don’t even look at me about running because you all are lying,” she added. “You’re not ready for a woman. You are not! So don’t waste my time. We’ve got a lot of growing up to do and there’s still, and sadly, a lot of men who do not feel like they can be led by a woman and we saw it.” 

Obama then turned to Ross and sarcastically asked, “What was the question?” prompting laughter from the audience.

Obama has long been viewed as a potential presidential candidate since leaving the White House in 2017. 

Her remarks also come as the Democratic Party has lost two of the last three presidential elections after nominating flawed women candidates.  

Hillary Clinton ran in 2015 amid sinking popularity and mounting criminal scandals. In 2024, the party nominated then-Vice President Kamala Harris without holding a primary, despite abysmal approval ratings. 

In both cases, Democrats were quick to blame misogyny and racism for their losses.

House Explodes in Southern California, Injuring 8 People and Damaging Nearby Homes

(Headline USA) Authorities were investigating on Monday after eight people were injured in an explosion that destroyed one house and damaged two others in a Southern California neighborhood.

Emergency crews responded around 3:45 p.m. Sunday following the blast in suburban Chino Hills, a city of 78,000 residents about 35 miles (56 kilometers) southeast of Los Angeles.

“Firefighters found major damage to the reported house and minor damage to surrounding homes,” the Chino Valley Fire District said in a statement. Photos and video from the scene showed one house reduced to a pile of rubble.

Four people from the destroyed home were transported to a hospital, and four others brought themselves, the fire district said. Their conditions were not immediately known, but the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said it appeared none were life-threatening.

Witnesses told KABC-TV that they saw people running from the explosion, including children crying for help.

Fire officials did not say what caused the blast, but said a gas leak had been stopped by late Sunday. Sixteen surrounding homes were briefly evacuated.

The Southern California Gas Company was working “to assess any damage to natural gas infrastructure and make related conditions safe to ensure the safety of the neighborhood and first responders,” utility spokesperson Aaron Ortiz said in a statement.

Charlotte’s Web Nets 81 Arrests First Day, Interference with Ops Second Day

(Alan Wooten, The Center Square) Eighty-one arrests were made by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents during the first day of immigration enforcement in Charlotte over the weekend, Commander Gregory K. Bovino said of the operation known as Charlotte’s Web.

“Significant criminal and immigration history” was cited for many. People he says are illegally in America, some with multiple deportations only to return, and with charges like aggravated assault, weapons violations and impaired driving are pictured on Bovino’s social media feed.

Second-term Republican President Donald Trump has sent the guard to the cities of Washington, Los Angeles and Memphis, with authorizations for Chicago and Portland blocked by judges.

The total arrests as a comparison of cities is not apples to apples. For example, the White House said 23 arrests were made the first day in the nation’s capital where the objective was crime reduction. In Los Angeles, protests including blocked freeways followed the beginning of enforcement actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement; ICE detained 44 the first day, hundreds were charged related to behavior around protests.

And in Memphis, the National Guard, Memphis Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol formed the Memphis Safe Task Force. From nine arrests the first day to 93 in the first few days, the volume was spread through the agencies.

Border Patrol began operations Saturday in the Queen City. Bovino, in one social media post among multiple Sunday, pointed out how those being detained are in grocery stores and on the highways despite “arrests for aggravated assault, assault with a dangerous weapon and DUI. He has also been removed from the U.S. twice, so now that he’s here again, he committed a felony by reentering the U.S.”

Two others were from Mexico, Bovino said. One, he wrote, “gets deported four times, strolls back to Charlotte, then racks up a hit and run and a DWI? It’s time to go back home.” The other wore the hoody of a Fayetteville’s Methodist University, and Bovino said he had three convictions for DWI.

State law requires a mandatory minimum 12-month prison sentence that cannot be suspended for a third DWI conviction within 10 years. It is called habitual impaired driving, comes with a fine up to $10,000 and could result in forfeiture of vehicle.

Bovino’s post did not say if the convictions were within 10 years, or the judicial system waived any element of punishment.

Sunday afternoon, Homeland Security said a lawman was injured by an American citizen it says, “weaponized his vehicle, driving a large van at law enforcement while they were conducting an operation.” It happened near University City, the suburban area near the campus of UNC Charlotte.

Prior to the Border Patrol arriving, a number of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County officials indicated the enforcement was not welcome. First-term Democratic Gov. Josh Stein made a social media post Friday asking for peace and saying public safety is a priority.

U.S. Reps. Rev. Mark Harris, Pat Harrigan and Chuck Edwards on Nov. 5 asked Stein to send the National Guard to the city.

The North Carolina Republican Party released a statement Saturday saying in part, “We’re grateful to see these brave men and women in federal law enforcement following through on President Trump’s promise to remove violent criminal illegals from our country and those stoking fear about these targeted operations must stop at once. We cannot forget the wreckage Joe Biden and Kamala Harris inflicted on our country with their open southern border.”

(Headline USA) President Donald Trump on Sunday defended free speech and open debate in response to Zionist concerns about Tucker Carlson’s recent interview with right-wing streamer Nick Fuentes.

Trump defended Carlson, saying the former Fox News host has “said good things about me over the years.” He said if Carlson wants to interview Fuentes, whose followers see themselves as working to preserve America’s white, Christian identity, then “people have to decide.” Trump did not criticize Carlson or Fuentes.

Fuentes appeared to appreciate Trump’s sentiment, posting “Thank you Mr. President!” along with video of his interaction with reporters.

Carlson had an amiable sit-down on his podcast last month with Fuentes that touched off a controversy among conservatives. It roiled the Heritage Foundation, where the president of the right-wing think tank defended Carlson for his interview, drawing outrage from staffers. Heritage President Kevin Roberts later denounced Fuentes’ views.

Trump told reporters as he prepared to fly back to Washington from a weekend in Florida that when it comes to Carlson, “You can’t tell him who to interview.”

“If he wants to interview Nick Fuentes, I don’t know much about him, but if he wants to do it, get the word out,” Trump said. “People have to decide.”

Trump a few minutes later added, “Meeting people, talking to people for somebody like Tucker — that’s what they do. You know, people are controversial.”

The president then said: “I’m not controversial, so I like it that way.”

It’s not the first time Trump has been asked about Fuentes. Three years ago, he hosted Fuentes at a dinner at his Mar-a-Lago resort, along with the rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.

Trump at the time said he had not previously met Fuentes and “knew nothing about” him.

Fuentes’ visit to Trump’s estate was condemned by numerous Republicans, including former Vice President Mike Pence, who said it was wrong for Trump “to give a white nationalist, an antisemite and Holocaust denier, a seat at the table.”

Trump said Sunday that he didn’t know Fuentes at the time and that he didn’t know he was coming with Ye.

Trump’s defense of Carlson’s interview comes as he has used his second-term administration to crack down on colleges and universities over what his administration claims is a tolerance of antisemitic views during protests over the Israel-Hamas war.

Carlson has been critical of U.S. support for Israel in that war and has come under fire for that.
