Study: Cost of ‘Fueling’ an Electric Vehicle is Equivalent to $17.33 Per Gallon

(Kenneth Schrupp, The Center Square) – The complete costs of “fueling” an electric vehicle for 10 years are $17.33 per equivalent gallon of gasoline, a new analysis from the Texas Public Policy Foundation says.

The study authors say the $1.21 cost-per-gallon equivalent of charging a car cited by EV advocates excludes the real costs born by taxpayers for subsidies, utility ratepayers for energy investments, and non-electric vehicle owners for mandate-and-environmental-credit-driven higher vehicle costs, which they say total $48,698 per EV. Those costs must be included when comparing fueling costs of EVs and traditional gas-powered vehicles, TPPF maintains.

“The market would be driving towards hybrids if not for this market manipulation from the federal government. We’d be reducing emissions and improving fuel economy at the same time on a much greater scale,” study author Jason Isaac told The Center Square in an interview. He then cited Toyota estimates that the batteries from one EV can power 90 hybrids and reduce emissions 37 times more than that one EV.

The study adds up the costs of direct subsidies to buyers of the car and chargers; indirect subsidies in the form of avoided fuel taxes and fees, as well as electric grid generation, transmission, distribution, and overhead costs for utilities; and regulatory mandates that include fuel economy standards, EPA greenhouse gas credits, and zero-emission mandates.

The study also assumes EVs will be driven for 10 years and 120,000 miles, which the authors claim is a generous estimate. According to J.D. Power, EVs lose 2.3% of their range each year due to battery degradation, in part driving EVs to lose value faster than internal combustion cars.

With Ford losing an estimated $70,000 per EV and subsidies reaching $50,000 per EV, Isaac says the real cost of a vehicle such as a Ford Lightning is over $150,000, and those costs are carried by everyone, including non-EV owners and even Americans without cars.

“The real cost of a Ford Lightning is closer to $172,00 and no one would buy them at that. I know their sales have tanked. The [electric] Silverado sold 18 electric trucks last quarter,” Isaac said. “Buying a car is more expensive today and people don’t understand why that is. I’m trying to help them understand if they buy a gas or diesel car they’re paying for an electric vehicle for a wealthy EV owner.”

To reach the $17.73 per gallon equivalent figure, the authors created categories for costs borne by EV owners, taxpayers, utility ratepayers, and buyers of electric vehicles. For reference, the cost per gallon equivalent is computed by dividing the number of miles over a car’s ten year lifetime by the average new vehicle’s fuel efficiency of 36 miles per gallon equivalent, and using that number to divide the total cost presented.

EV owners only pay $1.21 for the cost of residential electricity and $1.38 for charging and metering costs per equivalent gallon, which makes charging still cheaper than gasoline in terms of costs paid by EV owners. However, taxpayers pay $2.72 per gallon in federal and state EV buyer tax credits and rebates ($8,984 over a vehicle lifetime), a cost of $0.40 per gallon ($1,318 over a vehicle lifetime) in avoided charging infrastructure costs split between taxpayers and utility ratepayers. Utility ratepayers then pay $3.18 per gallon ($10,515 over a vehicle lifetime) in increased costs to enable the grid to charge electric vehicles at mass scale through increased power generation, transmission and distribution. Lastly, buyers of non-electric vehicles face increased vehicle costs equating to $1.48 per gallon equivalent ($4,881 over a vehicle lifetime) due to requirements in many states that manufacturers sell a certain number of often money-losing EVs to continue selling other cars, $1.01 per gallon equivalent ($3,322 over a vehicle lifetime) due to EPA GHG emissions standards, while Corporate Average Fuel Economy Credits add a whopping $5.96 per gallon equivalent ($19,678 over a vehicle lifetime).

CAFE standards are the single largest externalized cost of EVs, a cost that researchers attribute to the fact that automakers whose fleets do not meet the necessary average fuel economy must purchase credits from automakers with excess credits, with these credit markets worth billions of dollars per year and contributing $1.78 billion to Tesla’s bottom line in 2022. The average fuel economy of an average EV with a 300 mile range in 2021 was estimated to be 113 miles per gallon equivalent, making automakers strongly incentivized to build these often money-losing cars to meet CAFE goals. To increase the adoption of cars that don’t use diesel or gasoline, the federal government created a 667% multiplier in MPGe for vehicles that use alternative power. With a fleetwide CAFE standard of 37 MPG for 2021 and a 2021 EV rated at 113 MPGE, an EV is worth 507 MPG worth of credits, or more than what Ford loses directly on its EVs.

Legal Watchdog: Teachers Union Appears to Not Pay Taxes on Political Spending

(Tom Gantert, The Center Square) – For four years, leaders of the American Federation of Teachers union toured the country doing political rallies for Democrats.

Among the dozens of political events they attended from 2016 through 2020 included Hillary Clinton rallies, a get-out-the-vote event, and a Labor Day rally.

It’s the type of campaigning many unions do in support of Democratic issues.

However, a non-profit public interest law firm claims that from 2018 through 2020, AFT spent more than $3 million in political expenditures and didn’t declare it on the proper disclosure reports.

Landmark Legal Foundation states that AFT is obligated to report the expenditures and pay taxes on them.

Landmark Legal Foundation reviewed AFT’s reporting and then filed a complaint with the IRS in 2022 asking for an investigation of AFT’s political expenditures. In October, AFT followed with a supplemental filing with the IRS.

AFT did not respond to an email from The Center Square seeking comment.

The IRS stated in an email to The Center Square it could not comment on specific organizations due to privacy laws.

Landmark Legal Foundation stated that AFT responded to the complaint and said they are properly reporting their political spending via its Political Action Committee, or PAC.

But Landmark Legal Foundation stated there are multiple political expenditures itemized on AFT’s disclosure reports but not reported on the PAC’s disclosure statements.

Since they aren’t part of the PAC’s spending, Landmark Legal Foundation stated the political spending would be made from the union’s general treasury funds, which come from the collection of union dues.

Landmark Legal Foundation stated that since the political spending wasn’t on PAC reports, the union should report that political spending on a report known as a Form 990, which goes to the IRS.

AFT reported having $203 million in total revenue in 2020. On the Form 990 that is filed with the federal government, the question is asked, “Did the organization engage in direct or indirect political campaign activities on behalf of or in opposition to candidates for public office? If ‘Yes,’ complete Schedule C, Part I.” For the 2020 calendar year, AFT checked “No.”

Michael O’Neill, vice president of legal affairs at Landmark Legal Foundation, said that is problematic since the spending wasn’t listed with the PAC.

“They are saying not one cent of the over $200 million they take in annually is used for indirect or direct political activity,” O’Neill said,

Milk Shortages the Latest Symptom of Bidenomics

(Headline USA) The tiny, half-pint cartons of milk served with millions of school lunches nationwide may soon be scarce in some cafeterias, with districts across the country scrambling to find alternatives in Biden’s struggling economy.

The problem is not a shortage of milk itself, but the cardboard cartons used to package and serve it, according to dairy industry suppliers and state officials.

Pactiv Evergreen of Lake Forest, Illinois, which bills itself as “the leading manufacturer of fresh food and beverage packaging in North America” acknowledged in a statement Friday that it “continues to face significantly higher than projected demand” for its milk cartons.

The shortage is affecting the company’s ability to “fully supply some school milk orders,” according to Matt Herrick, spokesperson for the International Dairy Foods Association.

School officials in New York, Pennsylvania, California and Washington state said they were preparing for the shortage, while the U.S. Department of Agriculture acknowledged that the supply chain problem affects “multiple states.”

In California, state education officials told schools to be flexible with how they offer milk to kids, including limiting milk choices; using boxed, shelf-stable milk; and providing milk using bulk dispensers.

The carton shortage — which could also affect milk and juice served in hospitals, nursing homes and prisons — has forced officials across the country to brainstorm backup plans.

In Clarence, New York, local school district officials told parents they plan to provide “small bottles of water or cups of milk with lids” if the cartons run out.

In Lake Stevens, Washington, 40 miles from Seattle, chocolate milk was missing from this week’s dairy delivery, said Jayme Taylor, director of communications for the local school district.

“That’s the only complaint we received from students,” she said in an email.

Milk is required to be served with school meals, but officials with the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service issued a memo late last month allowing districts to serve different types or sizes of milk during the supply shortage — or to skip milk altogether.

It’s not clear how long the carton shortage could last. In Everett, Washington, school officials told parents to expect a disruption in cafeteria milk supply that could “range up to several months.”

Herrick said U.S. milk processors are working with other package suppliers to resolve the shortage. He said he expected the problem to improve within weeks and to be resolved by early next year.

MURDOCK: Voters’ Right to Cast Ballot Ends Where Wednesday Begins

(Deroy Murdock, Headline USA) Not long ago, Election Day found hundreds of millions of Republicans, Democrats and independents with heads full of knowledge about candidates and causes.

Beyond the infirm and the absent, Americans walked into their precincts at firehouses and libraries. And on one glorious autumn day, we decided en masse—on Congress and the White House.

Today, the same crowd that cannot tell a man from a woman has demolished this beautiful picture, too.

Election Day teeters on extinction. Americans now vote across Election Quarter. Elections start about Labor Day and end around Black Friday.

Not good!

But this need not be. And Americans who want to restore Election Day have as a powerful weapon: The Law.

Federal elections are required to occur on “the Tuesday next, after the first Monday in November.”  This date is not based on something that Mark Twain whispered to Ulysses S. Grant. It is neither optional nor suggested.

According to 2 US Code § Section 7, that Tuesday “is established as the day for the election…of Representatives and Delegates to the Congress.”

Under 3 US Code § 21 “election day” “means the Tuesday next after the first Monday in November,” for choosing the president and vice president except “as necessitated by force majeure events that are extraordinary and catastrophic.”

Those caveats were shoehorned in last Christmas, amid the Yuletide spending orgy co-hosted by Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and his loyal manservant, Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

So, absent total calamities, all of today’s early-voting nonsense violates not one but two federal statutes.

Early voting is against the law!

GOP attorneys should be in every state, banging on the doors of federal judges, and demanding they scrap every Democrat-inflicted “temporary,” COVID-era, early-voting scam.

  • Down with mass-mailed, no-excuse absentee ballots!
  • No more drop boxes!
  • Goodbye, ballot harvesting and vote trafficking!
  • Sayonara, early voting—as many as 40 days before Election Day in Michigan and 46 days in Minnesota!
  • Farewell, late voting, with absentee ballots blowing into tabulation rooms like autumn leaves, until damn-near Thanksgiving.

(GOP employment of such methods for the purposes of beating Democrats at their own game must be necessary, temporary, and swiftly prohibited.)

Thanks to Public Interest Legal Foundation for filing a federal lawsuit in North Dakota requiring that all ballots arrive for counting by the time polls close on Election Day.

America must reinvigorate Election Day, which was when—and only when—citizens voted until Obama & Co. started to demolish this hallowed tradition, just as Democrats grind their rusty cleats into every neck they can find.

Democrats will whine that restoring Election Day is a right-wing, mega-MAGA-Republican plot to suppress black votes and steal elections.

Yaaaaawn!

When Democrats spew this lie, Republicans should remind them that such left-wing oppressors as Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, LBJ, JFK, and FDR all won the White House—and their Democrat comrades held Congress—while they followed the same Election Day rules that they would denounce as pure bigotry today.

Conservative activists, donors, leaders and groups should adopt this cause.

Republicans should deploy battalions of attorneys to unleash this strategy to the GOP’s advantage. A level playing field would cripple modern Democrats.

I hereby volunteer to assist anyone who will litigate this vital matter.

Specifically, I would be thrilled to be the lead plaintiff in relevant federal lawsuits. I would be honored to be the Clarence Earl Gideon, Ernesto Miranda or Dick Anthony Heller on the lawsuit that finally obliterates the Democrats’ election-theft machine.

If GOP lawsuits fail, they fail.

But if Republicans win, they win—big league!

The GOP needs to fight this all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. If not, Democrats will keep stealing elections until they achieve their ultimate dream: a one-party neo-Marxist dictatorship.

Republicans have everything to win. What the Hell do we have to lose?

Make Election Day Great Again!

Did Adams’s Immigration Critique Lead to Biden’s FBI Raid on Fundraiser?

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA)  Following the FBI raid of NYC Mayor Eric Adams’s top fundraiser Brianna Suggs, Twitter critics flooded the social media platform, accusing the Biden administration of targeting the mayor’s inner circles as a result of Adams’s scorching criticism of Biden’s open borders.

The FBI is investigating potential illegal campaign contributions from the Turkish government to the Adams campaign, a violation of federal law, according to the New York Post.

The speculation began after NBC News correspondent for investigations, Tom Winter, took to Twitter to announce that the raid occurred as Adams canceled meetings with Biden officials on Thursday.

“Is Biden putting out a hit on Eric Adams because Adams has excoriated him about the border crisis?” one Twitter user said on Friday, while another added, “NYC Mayor #EricAdams criticized Joe Biden’s immigration policies and now Federal prosecutors & FBI are conducting a corruption investigation against him… coincidence ?!?”

Another Twitter user brought concerns about the timing of the raid, saying, “This occurred a day after Eric Adams requested more funding and openly criticized Biden for the migrant crisis. In response, Biden sent a clear message, essentially saying, ‘You better get in line. Consider this a warning shot.’”

While there is no immediate evidence that Biden himself played any role in the raid, both Adams and Biden have been at odds after the mayor began rebuking what has been widely criticized as open border chaos, with an unprecedented number of illegal aliens flooding the streets of NYC.

In fact, the FBI is currently investigating the Adams campaign’s alleged ties with a Brooklyn construction company with alleged connections to Turkey, as well as a small Washington, D.C.-based university. The bureau is seeking to determine whether the mayor’s campaign provided the funds back to the construction company or to Turkish officials.

Upon the raid, Adams was en route to D.C. to meet with the Congressional delegation of New York and the White House. He swiftly returned to the city to address the matter, according to a media report.

According to the NY Post, Adams stood by his campaign, saying, “Where’s there’s smoke, there’s not always fire. … I have full confidence in [Suggs]. She has done an amazing job,” Adams continued, adding, “She will stay with the campaign team.”

In response to circulating rumor that the White House disinvited Adams over the raid, a White House official denied the allegations. “This rumor is false,” a White House official told the NY Post on Friday. “Mayor Adams canceled his participation in the meeting yesterday.”

24% of Americans Say They Knew Someone Who Died from COVID-19 Vaccine

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) A new Rasmussen Reports poll that was released on Thursday revealed that nearly a quarter of Americans who were polled said that they knew someone who died because of the COVID-19 vaccine.

It was also discovered that more men [51%] than women [44%] of those who were polled said that they knew someone personally who died from side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine.

As it turned out, it wasn’t only conservative, anti-Big Pharma people who were polled by Rasmussen. According to the results of the poll, 24% of Democrats and unaffiliated voters said that they knew someone personally who died because of the coronavirus vaccine, with 25% of Republicans saying the same thing.

In addition to that, 42% of respondents said that if there was a major class-action lawsuit against Big Pharma for adverse side effects, they would be likely to join the lawsuit, including 24% of those who said that they’d likely join such a lawsuit.

However, 47% of respondents said they weren’t likely to join a class-action lawsuit against the companies that made the vaccine, with 25% of people saying that it’s “not at all likely” and 11% saying that they were not sure.

“Among those who say someone they know died from the COVID-19 virus, 41 percent also say they know someone who died from side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine. By contrast, among those who say they don’t know anyone who died from the virus, only nine percent say they know someone who died from COVID-19 vaccine side effects,” the poll indicated.

As expected, adults under 40 were less likely to say they knew someone who died from the coronavirus. However, people from that group said that they were more likely to join a major class-action lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies for vaccine side effects, with men under 40 being particularly more likely to say they’d join a class-action lawsuit.

The survey of 1,110 American adults was conducted by Rasmussen on Oct. 26, 2023, and Oct. 29-30, 2023.

Mike Johnson’s Adopted Son Praises Him After Troubled Past Emerges

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) House Speaker Mike Johnson’s adopted son, Michael T. James, has recently come into the spotlight after a report by the Daily Mail shed light on the son’s troubled past with law enforcement.

Despite the revelations and leftist backlash aimed at the new speaker, James publicly praised Johnson and his wife, Kelly, for providing him with a stable home at the age of 14.

In a statement to the Mail, James, now 40 years old, emphasized the important role the Johnsons played in saving his life. “If the Johnsons hadn’t taken me in as a teenager, my life would look very different today,” James expressed. “I would probably be in prison or I might not have made it at all.”

Following his adoption, James obtained his G.E.D. and completed a Jobs Corps program in 2002. He fondly referred to the Johnsons as his parents, the Daily reported.

However, his path took a tumultuous turn after the family relocated to a different city, leading to a series of convictions as detailed by the Mail.

“From 2003 through 2010, James was convicted in Volusia County, Florida, of a series of petty crimes including possession of cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, trespassing, retail theft, possession of a concealed weapon, driving without a license, and violating a restraining order preventing him seeing a 16-year-old girl he was ‘dating’ when he was 23,” the report added.

A source connected to the Speaker’s office revealed that James is currently striving to become a certified nurse assistant. He attributes much of his progress to the guidance provided by the Johnsons.

“I always felt loved like I was a part of their family,” James shared. “They have been there for me when I have been lost and in the deepest valleys, and I know it was hard at times to constantly help someone who didn’t always get it right.”

James continued to express gratitude toward the Johnsons, highlighting the love he has for them. “I thank God all the time for giving them both the strength, patience, and unwavering faith that inspired me to do better and be better. I respect, love, and admire them both.”

In response to the Mail’s report, Johnson extended his unwavering support for James. “Kelly and I have always seen him as one of our own,” he declared. “Despite any mistakes he’s made, we love Michael and are blessed to have him in our family.”

Despite the moving story, the left took at jabs at both Johnson and James, unleashing disturbing vitriol against both.

Dominican Rep. President Mocks Beachbum Biden: Next Summit at Beach

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader took an apparent swipe at U.S. President Joe Biden during a Friday meeting in the Oval Office.

The incident occurred as Abinader extended an invitation to Biden for the 2025 Summit of the Americas, which is scheduled to take place in Punta Cana, one of the Caribbean’s most-desired tourist destinations.

“You will have time to be on the beach,” a smirking Abinader quipped, drawing a chuckle from Biden. Notably, Punta Cana, situated along the east coast of the island, boasts crystal-clear water beaches and lavish resorts.

The Dominican Republic president previously emphasized, “Mr. President, we look forward to welcoming you soon to the Dominican Republic at the next Summit of the Americas in 2025, where we will continue to develop the goals of prosperity, security and democracy that binds us together.”

In the wake of this incident, social media was abuzz with reactions, particularly from conservative voices. Human Events podcaster Jack Posobiec remarked, “Gettin clowned by the President of the DR,” while political commentator Tim Young lamented, “The world is laughing at us…”

Abinader’s apparent mockery of Biden came at a time when Biden has faced criticism for his perceived nonchalant approach to governance. The Republican National Committee recently issued a report alleging that Biden has spent a significant portion of his presidency on vacation, with an estimated 40% of his tenure, or 382 out of 957 days, away from the White House.

Despite the Biden embarrassment, Abinader pressed about security concerns in neighboring Haiti, which has been grappling with an escalating wave of violence and gang-related activities.

In a tweet, Biden thanked Abinader for the visit. “President Luis Abinader, it was great meeting with you,” Biden said on a tweet. “Like I said today, the United States’ and Dominican Republic’s partnership is stronger than ever before – a reality that will allow us both to expand economic opportunity, counter corruption, and tackle the climate crisis.”

Fla. Roofing Company Offers Ar-15s, Turkeys to Its Customers

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) A roofing company in Florida launched a promotion on Wednesday offering an AR-15 and a turkey to anyone who buys a roof, expecting to pick up more business this month as a result.

The company’s “Roof and Gobble” promotion is for customers to protect their homes with a roof, bring their families together over a turkey and protect them with an AR-15, Roof EZ president Jason Polly told NBC News.

“Everybody should have an AR-15. Everybody should have the means to protect their homes and their family. It’s not really catered to anybody, any state, any political view, anything like that. It’s all about safety,” he said.

The promotion happened to be successful because the Cape Coral business was able to sell eight roofs and have about 50 inquiries about the promotion only after two business days, Polly said, adding that, during a normal month, the company sells 30 to 50 roofs. Polly also said that he hopes the promotion will help sell 60 to 100.

The promotion is legal, according to the lawyers of the company. Polly emphasized that Roof EZ is working with a gun store in Cape Coral, adding that anyone who buys a roof because of the promotion will have to wait until after it’s completed to pick up the gun.

However, people who have concealed carry permits can pick up an AR-15 worth about $500 immediately. Those who don’t have permits will need to wait three days or the time it takes to pass a background check.

“You have to go through all the proper channels before you can walk away with a gun,” Polly said, adding that he hopes the gun store, which also operates a shooting range, will also provide shooting training free to anyone who gets the weapon through the promotion.

The promotion is about fundamental constitutional rights, he said.

“If someone has the means to buy a roof, they have the means to go buy their own firearm. They’re just buying a roof and supporting our Second Amendment right. I support everybody’s First Amendment right… They can reciprocate and respect my Second Amendment rights,” Polly said.

Bibi Accused of ‘Toxic Masculinity’ for Asserting Israel’s Right to Defend Itself

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) As if the partisan scheming of his Yesh Atid enemies in the Knesset—not to mention the existential threats to his country from Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists—weren’t enough problems for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to worry about, the conservative Likud leader now faces the vengeful wrath of at least one woke feminazi from Brooklyn, The Blaze reported.

In a recent commentary, Amanda Marcotte, a senior writer for the leftist website Salon, accused Netanyahu of “toxic masculinity” while painting him as an authoritarian figure for defending his nation following an unprovoked terrorist massacre.

Fortunately for Marcotte, there is no clinical definition for “toxic masculinity”—so she was able to use the term as a sort of catch-all to launch whatever accusations she wished to make.

Toxic masculinity “dupes people into confusing big talk for real action,” she asserted.

“Authoritarian men like Netanyahu—or like Donald Trump—love to preen about how strong and powerful they supposedly are,” she continued. “It’s all a lie, of course, and they often expose themselves as cowards who cringe away from real challenges.”

There is no evidence that Netanyahu, a trained combat veteran with the Israeli Defense Forces who was wounded in battle on multiple occasions, was engaged in mere preening with respect to the war in Gaza.

Marcotte also compared Netanyahu’s reactions to Hamas’s attacks to former President George W. Bush’s response to 9/11, claiming both used hyperbolic rhetoric to encourage populations to unify under a singular cause.

Bush “benefited in no small part from the plain old sexist prejudice, the kind that causes people to conflate chest-thumping displays of toxic masculinity with competence and strength,” Marcotte wrote, while “… Netanyahu’s toxic masculinity makes for a fragile ego.”

Stepping back in time to the Medieval era, she revealed that the “myth of chivalry” came into being in order for men to take power over women so they could protect them.

However, she said that newly evolved wokesters opt to forgo that sense of security, instead preferring the pacifist approach of Beta males such as former President Barack Obama and current President Joe Biden.

“Maybe they feel soothed by Biden’s more ‘feminine’ style of leadership, which is heavy on empathy and diplomacy, while shunning the overheated tough guy rhetoric favored by Republicans,” she said.

Left-wing critics of Israel’s military response have found themselves flustered by the public backlash to their tacit support for Hamas after its brutal rape, torture and massacre of more than 1,300 innocent Jews and kidnapping of some 200 others—including at least 26 children—whom it continues to hold hostage.

When posting her published article onTwitter, Marcotte hedged her bets to avoid career-ending accusations of anti-Semitism by insisting that Hamas and Netanyahu “both suck,” and blamed the entire “toxic discourse” on the boogeyman of toxic masculinity.
