Silver on the Launch Pad, Eyeing Run to $40

(Brien Lundin, Money Metals News Service) Gold steals most of the headlines, but silver has stealthily set itself up for a potential run to $40.

After nearly 40 years in this business, I’ve read, listened to, watched, and talked with countless thousands of very smart people.

I was reminded of the value offered by the best analysts when I started noticing a number of people posting a chart of the silver price and how it’s setting up for a big breakout.

In fact, this chart and market observation was originally posted by Ron Griess of TheChartStore.com:

Silver Per Oz (Chart) - The Chart Store / Another Perspective

As you can see, silver has essentially completed a reverse head-and-shoulders pattern that projects to a price of over $40.

While many others are now talking about this, it’s important to give credit where credit is due, because that tells us who we need to listen to going forward.

Ron and his service are among those, which is why I’ve relied on his observations for over a quarter century.

This particular note on silver is important because the metal has been trading very strongly since Ron posted that chart:

Silver (Chart) - May 10, 2024

As I write, gold is trading lower today, yet silver is up. You can see by this chart of the gold/silver ratio that silver has in fact been outperforming gold in recent days:

Gold / Silver (Chart) - May 10, 2024

And silver’s outperformance hasn’t been limited to the last few days. Generally speaking, and counter to what most believe, silver has been leveraging gold’s gains since this rally began on March 1st.

Also note that over this period, the gold/silver ratio fell through both the 50-day and 200-day moving averages and that the 50-DMA is poised to fall through the 200-DMA. While the track record of so-called “death crosses” is mixed, this is yet another indication that silver could continue outperforming gold in the days ahead.

So “Hi ho silver, away!”

HHS Sanctions EcoHealth Alliance for Risky Coronavirus Experiments

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has sanctioned Peter Daszak and his firm, EcoHealth Alliance, due to their risky coronavirus experiments conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

“I have suspended and proposed for debarment EcoHealth Alliance, Inc. (EHA) from participating in United States Federal Government procurement and nonprocurement programs,” HHS official Henrietta Brisbon told Daszak in a letter on Wednesday, attaching a memorandum with various reasons for the sanctions.

The HHS’s actions against EcoHealth follow a report last week from the House Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, recommending that Daszak’s company be banned from receiving federal taxpayer funds.

The Covid Subcommittee report examined the millions of dollars of grant funds that the National Institutes of Health gave to Daszak’s EcoHealth, including its infamous May 2014 $3.7 million award for “Understanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence.”

The report found that EcoHealth failed to regularly update the NIH about its experiments at Wuhan, as was required by law. The report further found that EcoHealth used taxpayer dollars to conduct gain-of-function experiments—an allegation that had been denied by former NIH Director Anthony Fauci.

Furthermore, the report found that the NIH supported the Trump administration’s decision to terminate the $3.7 million grant to EcoHealth in April 2020.

The grant was reinstated last April. But according to the House Subcommittee report, Daszak and EcoHealth concealed the fact that unanalyzed samples and sequences—that the U.S. paid for—are in the custody and control of the Wuhan Institute.

Rep. Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, who chairs the COVID subcommittee, celebrated HHS’s sanctions.

“HHS has begun efforts to cut off all U.S. funding to this corrupt organization. EcoHealth facilitated gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China without proper oversight, willingly violated multiple requirements of its multimillion-dollar National Institutes of Health grant, and apparently made false statements to the NIH,” he said.

“These actions are wholly abhorrent, indefensible, and must be addressed with swift action. EcoHealth’s immediate funding suspension and future debarment is not only a victory for the U.S. taxpayer, but also for American national security and the safety of citizens worldwide.”

Wenstrup added that his committee’s investigation is ongoing.

“Dr. Daszak and his team are still required to produce all outstanding documents and answer the Select Subcommittee’s questions, specifically related to Dr. Daszak’s potential dishonesty under oath,” he said.

Understanding Roosevelt’s 1933 Gold Confiscation

(Money Metals News Service) In this episode of the Money Metals Midweek Memo, host Mike Maharrey delves into the topic of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s gold confiscation during the Great Depression, framed within a broader discussion of government power and individual compliance.

Personal Anecdotes and Government Compliance

Maharrey begins by relating his own childhood obedience to his mother’s rules, using this personal anecdote as a metaphor for how people generally comply with government mandates, whether out of respect, fear, or a desire to please. He asserts that, much like his mother’s hypothetical threats, the government’s power is often more implied than real, due to their limited capacity to enforce laws against a non-compliant populace.

Executive Order 6102: Context and Purpose

Mike Maharrey discussed Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Executive Order 6102, issued on April 5, 1933, which required U.S. citizens to surrender much of their gold holdings to the Federal Reserve. The order was justified as a necessary measure to stabilize the U.S. banking system during the Great Depression, following a severe bank run that prompted Roosevelt to declare a bank holiday.

Key Aspects of Executive Order 6102:

  1. Purpose of the Order: The executive order was framed as a measure to prevent the hoarding of gold, which was seen as exacerbating the banking crisis by leading to a shortage of gold reserves necessary to back the currency. This was part of a broader strategy to prevent gold from flowing out of the banking system and to enable the Federal Reserve to inflate the money supply.
  2. Compensation for Gold: Citizens turning in their gold were not robbed outright; they were compensated with paper currency at the rate of $20.67 per ounce. Maharrey emphasizes that this exchange rate was set by law, suggesting that the transaction was not confiscation in the traditional sense but rather a mandatory buy-back.
  3. Legal and Social Dynamics: The order was legally grounded in the Trading with the Enemy Act of 1917, as amended by the Emergency Banking Act of 1933. Maharrey discusses how Roosevelt’s administration used the language of “hoarding” to morally charge the act of holding gold, painting it as unpatriotic and antisocial during a national crisis.
  4. Public Compliance and Enforcement: Maharrey points out that the effectiveness of the executive order relied heavily on voluntary compliance. He noted that there was no widespread forceful confiscation or aggressive enforcement. Most people who complied did so out of a sense of duty or fear of legal consequences, which included hefty fines or imprisonment.
  5. Impact and Aftermath: The immediate effect was to increase the gold reserves of the Federal Reserve, allowing for more paper money to be printed. Later, the U.S. moved further away from the gold standard, culminating in significant monetary policy shifts. Maharrey also mentions that the executive order was followed by the Gold Reserve Act of 1934, which adjusted the price of gold from $20.67 per ounce to $35 per ounce and further consolidated gold in federal hands, allowing even more flexibility in monetary expansion.

Maharrey’s discussion of Executive Order 6102 is critical yet nuanced, acknowledging both the context of its implementation and its implications for personal freedoms and government power.

Maharrey explains this order was a means to bolster the federal gold reserves, which would allow the government to increase the money supply, aiming to alleviate the economic strains of the Depression while increasing government spending and centralized power. He challenges the common perception of this move as a wholesale “confiscation,” clarifying that most people complied voluntarily and were compensated at the then-standard gold price of $20.67 per ounce.

According to Milton Friedman and Anna Schwartz in their book, A Monetary History of the United States 1867-1960, the amount of gold turned in following Executive Order 6102 was relatively small. Friedman and Schwartz estimate that only about 20 to 25% of the gold held in private hands was actually surrendered to the Federal Reserve. This suggests that the majority of people, approximately 75 to 80%, chose to ignore the order and retained their gold privately.

Furthermore, Maharrey discusses the aftermath and the broader implications of the gold confiscation, including the eventual rise of the dollar value of gold to $35 per ounce in 1934, which effectively increased the gold value on the Federal Reserve’s balance sheet by 69%. This allowed for further expansion of the money supply under the gold standard.

Theoretical Underpinnings and Modern Parallels

Towards the end of the podcast, Maharrey touches on modern parallels, noting how the Federal Reserve and the federal government manipulate the money supply today without the constraints of the gold standard. He concludes by encouraging listeners to consider buying gold and silver as a safeguard against potential economic instability, emphasizing the ongoing relevance of precious metals as “real money.”

The Importance of Sound Money

Mike Maharrey touches on the concept of sound money primarily through the historical context of the U.S. gold standard and its implications for today’s monetary policy. He discusses how, historically, sound money was represented by currency backed by physical gold, which limited the government’s ability to expand the money supply arbitrarily.

Maharrey explains that the gold standard acted as a check on the government’s ability to inflate the currency, as the Federal Reserve was required to hold gold reserves equal to at least 40% of the currency it issued. This requirement constrained monetary policy, but it was circumvented by Roosevelt’s actions in the 1930s, which shifted gold from private hands to the Federal Reserve, thus allowing for an increase in paper money circulation.

He also reflects on the modern implications of departing from sound money principles, particularly highlighting the Federal Reserve’s current ability to expand the money supply without such constraints, leading to significant economic repercussions like inflation.

Maharrey emphasizes the importance of sound money for economic stability and advocates for the ownership of physical gold and silver as a way to retain personal control over part of one’s financial assets in a landscape where government actions can dilute traditional money’s value.

Overall, Maharrey advocates for a return to sound money principles to limit government power over the economy and protect individual financial sovereignty.

Conclusion and Call to Action

Throughout the episode, Maharrey engages with historical facts, economic theories, and personal insights to argue that government actions often rely heavily on the voluntary compliance of its citizens, and he encourages a more questioning and cautious approach to governmental power and monetary policies.

The episode concludes with Maharrey advocating for the purchase of gold and silver as a hedge against potential economic downturns, suggesting that owning physical precious metals is a prudent way to maintain personal financial security in uncertain economic times.

WATCH: Heavily Armed Police Surround Man Acquitted in Whitmer Kidnap Case

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Brandon Caserta was found not guilty of conspiring to kidnap Michigan’s governor in April 2022.

So it surprised him when heavily armed police surrounded his vehicle last August, their weapons drawn and ready to shoot—all over a minor domestic dispute, in which he’s charged with harming his ex-girlfriend “by striking her hand.” Caserta denies the allegation.

Charging documents show that Brandon Caserta is accused of striking his ex-girlfriend's hand. For that, an armed squad of officers surrounded his car and threatened to shoot him
Charging documents show that Brandon Caserta is accused of striking his ex-girlfriend’s hand. For that, an armed squad of officers surrounded his car and threatened to shoot him

At the time, Headline USA contacted the Bay City Police Department last week, inquiring why a heavily armed squad was used to arrest Caserta over a relatively minor charge. This reporter specifically asked if such tactics were used because the Bay City Police Department viewed Caserta was a domestic terrorist threat.

“Yes, that’s why,” Bay City Police Lt. Irene Kjergaard said in response to that question.

However, it’s still unclear why Bay City viewed Caserta as a potential terrorist—whether police were operating from FBI intelligence, media reports or information from the then-girlfriend. Bay City Police have stopped responding to questions about the matter, and the FBI hasn’t responded to an inquiry, either.

While still short on answers about the incident, Headline USA has obtained body-camera footage showing the arrest. It largely matches the description Caserta provided to this publication last August.

According to the body-cam footage, police were on the lookout for Caserta after receiving a complaint from his girlfriend.

According to Caserta, he had been arguing with his ex-girlfriend, who had kicked him out of her Bay City, Texas house and took his phone.

Stranded in Texas, Caserta took his laptop to a local Starbucks to communicate with his mother and figure out how he’d be able to make it back to the Midwest. There, an officer saw him in a Starbucks parking lot, and called the rest of his team to move in on him.

The footage showed multiple unmarked cars pulling behind Caserta, with a marked police SUV pulling in front of him.

“Hands on the steering wheel! Hands on the steering wheel!” officers can be heard shouting at Caserta.

Later, the footage shows officers going through Caserta’s personal belongings, including his firearms and ammunition that he was planning on taking back to the Midwest.

“He looks like a prepper,” one officer remarked.

The officers discussed charging Caserta for possessing body armor, but realized they couldn’t do so because he’s not a felon.

Bad Intelligence

Local police have relied on faulty FBI data in the past to target innocent people as potential terrorist threats. Oklahoma native Saadiq Long filed a lawsuit over the matter in January 2023, after Oklahoma City police targeted him on the basis that his name appeared on a bureau watchlist.

“In the span of only two months, Saadiq Long has been repeatedly pulled over, arrested twice, held at gunpoint, and had his car searched by Oklahoma City Police Department officers. It is not because Saadiq is a criminal or suspected of being one,” Long’s lawsuit said.

“The FBI distributes its list, via the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Database, to the Oklahoma City Police Department. That is all that the FBI distributes: a list of names,” Long, who has previously successfully sued the government to have his name removed from no-fly lists, said in his lawsuit.

“The FBI keeps its reasons and evidence about the placement to itself. Because of this, the Department knows that the FBI put Saadiq Long on a watchlist, but the Department has no idea why.”

Long’s lawsuit is still pending. Meanwhile, Caserta said he’s yet to receive a court date to face the misdemeanor assault charge—which is underpinned by the allegation that he harmed his ex-girlfriend “by strking her hand.”

The exonerated Whitmer kidnap defendant said he has evidence that will also clear his name in this latest misdemeanor case. While driving back and forth from Texas to defend himself has been a hassle, he said he’s doing so mainly because striking a plea deal would mean losing his Second Amendment rights.

Dishonest J6 Cop Defeated in Maryland Congressional Primary

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Ex-Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn—who’s made numerous false statements about his role on Jan. 6, 2021, and who’s been the subject of domestic abuse allegations—was defeated Tuesday in his quest to become the next representative of Maryland’s third congressional district.

Dunn fell in Tuesday’s Democratic Primary to Maryland state Sen. Sarah Elfreth, who earned about 36% of the vote in a race with more than 20 other candidates. Dunn, who finished in second, won about 25% of the vote.

Dunn had heavy Democrat establishment backing heading into Tuesday, including from Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

However, his checkered background apparently caught up to him.

Last October, an investigation from Blaze Media showed how Dunn false statements about what the Oath Keepers did during Jan. 6. He made other dubious claims about what happened on Jan. 6, including that protestors called him the N-word and shouted numerous other slurs at him—claims for which no footage exists.

While Dunn’s J6 lies may not have upset his Democratic constituents, the backbreaker to his campaign was likely the damning details about his 2012 suspension from the Capitol Police.

Dunn’s 2012 suspension for mishandling his firearm had been in the media for months, but last week the startup liberal publication Punchbowl News published a police report from that incident. According to the police report, Dunn was in a November 2011 domestic dispute with his then-wife and stepson, in which he assaulted and pointed a gun at her. The police report also details allegations that he beat the stepson.

Dunn, for his part, blamed his loss on the “outside spending” that was supporting Elfreth.

According to NBC, United Democracy Project, a super PAC tied to the powerful pro-Israel American Israel Public Affairs Committee, spent more than $4 million to boost Elfreth.

“You look at the people that are funding UDP. There are a lot of big prominent MAGA donors, especially to Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Lauren Boebert and several others. … And those are just the facts,” Dunn said in an interview before Election Day. “I’ve been very outspoken about how I feel against the MAGA faction of the Republican Party, including their leader, and I don’t have any regrets.”

Merchan’s Daughter Tied to Effort to Ban Trump from Ballots, Possible Witness Tampering

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) The daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over former President Donald Trump’s porn-star case in New York, has ties to a far-left think-tank that helped plot the failed attempt to kick Trump off the ballot in several states earlier this year, according to Steve Bannon’s WarRoom.

Meanwhile, another high-profile client of hers has admitted to helping coach the prosecution’s star witness, raising potential questions about a mistrial.

Loren Merchan, daughter of Judge Merchan, is the president of the “digital strategy” company Authentic Campaigns, which works with a litany of high-profile left-wing clients.

That has included the George Soros-funded Brennan Center for Justice, a nonprofit think-tank at New York University that was integral in helping formulate the controversial plot to use the 14th Amendment’s so-called insurrection clause against Trump.

The Brennan Center an amicus brief with the Colorado Supreme Court, which controversially ruled against Trump, potentially igniting a constitutional crisis that would have allowed unelected partisan judges to disfranchise Republican voters on the basis of a wild and ambitious legal theory.

”The brief urges the Court to reject Trump’s attempts to revive the independent state legislature theory on appeal,” summarized the Brennan Center.

The Colorado ruling was later overturned in a unanimous decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, but not before the secretaries of state in at least two other blue states threatened to boot Trump off their ballots and potentially trigger a chain reaction.

The involvement of Loren Merchan raises further questions as to potential conflicts of interest surrounding her father’s appointment to preside over Trump’s Manhattan trial and his refusal to recuse himself.

After Trump flagged the widely reported conflict with Loren Merchan’s employment, which has earned some $93 million in profits from those seeking to undermine and defeat the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, the judge promptly imposed a gag order to prevent Trump from criticizing his daughter.

However, the Brennan Center was far from the only controversial client whose partisan interest in defeating Trump raised serious red flags.

Prior to the testimony this week of former Trump attorney Michael Cohen, Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., boasted that he had been busy coaching the witness.

“I have deposed Michael Cohen, I have been with him a number of times to prepare him,” Golden told MSNBC.

However, it quickly came to light that Goldman also was a client of the judge’s daughter.

Headline USA reached out to Cohen via text message to comment on the allegations of potential witness tampering and the possibility of a mistrial that may result. We will update with any response.

Authentic Campaigns also took on clients connected to the Chinese Communist Party.

The Asia Society, a pro-China lobbyist group sponsored by several branches of the Confucius Institutes, which received funding from the Chinese Communist Party.

The Confucius Institutes are known for peddling pro-China propaganda on college campuses, implementing a program called “Confucius Classrooms” that push pro-communist messaging to students of all ages.

The Asia Society also tracks officials at Chinese universities with histories of cyber-espionage and intellectual property theft.

Authentic Campaigns seemed to have no qualms with the Asia Society’s sketchy relationship with the Eastern power, and even noted on their website that their marketing programming helped the group reach a larger audience.

“Authentic devised a dual-focused approach to effectively tackle Asia Society’s objectives,” its website read.

“We combined targeted digital advertising campaigns with strategic list acquisition initiatives to maximize reach and engagement,” it continued. “A comprehensive understanding of Asia Society’s diverse offerings enabled us to tailor each campaign to resonate with specific audience segments, thereby ensuring maximum relevance and impact.”

DOJ’s ‘Unorthodox’ Move to Seize J6 Woman’s Phone Rebuffed by Judge

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The Biden-led DOJ has gone to extraordinary lengths in an unsuccessful attempt to gain access to the cellphone belonging to a woman accused of entering the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

On Tuesday, attorney and congressional candidate Anthony Sabatini accused the DOJ of employing “unorthodox” tactics in their pursuit of a warrant for the phone of his client, Isabella Maria DeLuca.

DeLuca, a social media personality, currently faces federal charges related to her alleged role in the Jan. 6 protest. The DOJ possesses her cellphone but requires a warrant to access its contents

Federal prosecutors made an unsuccessful bid for a warrant for DeLuca’s cellphone in Orange County, California.

Following the denial in that jurisdiction, the DOJ then “shipped” the phone to Washington, D.C., a city known for its liberal leanings, Sabatini wrote on Twitter.

Sabatini asserted that this move was an attempt to secure a more favorable ruling.

However, U.S. Magistrate Judge G. Michael Harvey promptly dismissed the warrant application and scolded federal prosecutors for circumventing the rejection in California by seeking a warrant from a different venue.

In his ruling, Harvey emphasized that if a lower judge denies their request, prosecutors must seek review “through the customary, hierarchical appellate process.”

Criticizing the DOJ’s maneuver, the judge remarked, “Going to another court to seek a more favorable outcome from a judge of coordinate jurisdiction is no one of the options. Yet that is what the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia done here.”

Later in his order, Harvey asserted that the DOJ had not “established probable cause to believe that that the target device” contains potential evidence related to the federal charges arising from the January 6 protest.

DeLuca was arrested in March 2024 on misdemeanor charges of theft of government property, disorderly conduct, and entering a restricted area.

Headline USA attempted to reach out to DeLuca and Sabatini for comments on Tuesday evening but given the late-night publication of this piece (11:00 PM EST), a response was unlikely.

The warrant request comes amid the DOJ’s heightened persecution of individuals allegedly involved in the events of Jan. 6.

The aggressive crackdown of pro-Trump demonstrators on that day sharply contrasts with the DOJ’s neglect to prosecute the violent instigators and looters linked to the leftist unrest of 2020.

Former President Donald Trump, now striving to reclaim the White House in 2024, has vowed to grant pardons to those unjustly targeted by the Biden-led DOJ.

“They were unbelievable patriots,” Trump affirmed during an Ohio rally, praising those who protested after the 2020 election.

White-Owned Businesses Prevented from Taking $2.3B in Contracts to Renovate N.Y. Airport

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) The New York Port Authority reserved a sizeable portion of the nearly $20 billion renovation project at JFK International Airport for businesses owned by women and non-white men.

The plan to renovate JFK Airport was announced in 2017 and will cost an estimated $19 billion, which will be paid for by both public and private funds, Blaze Media reported.

Of that $19 billion, renovation contracts worth a total of $2.3 billion have been reserved for minority- and women-owned business enterprises — also known as MWBEs — as part of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s, D-N.Y., goal of increasing state partnerships with MWBEs.

As of May 14, 2024, 680 MWBEs have been awarded contracts for the JFK renovation project.

“New York remains committed to providing travelers with a premier experience that includes world-class amenities and record involvement by local minority- and women-owned businesses will ensure just that. This transformative project uplifts these businesses and deepens investments in the community while bolstering the state workforce,” Hochul said.

The Port Authority previously stated on its website that it has openly embraced “a progressive diversity and inclusion initiative” that aims to increase “contract participation” with MWBEs. The agency hopes to have minority-owned businesses represent 20% of its contract partners and women-owned businesses represent another 10% by 2030.

Businesses that are owned by white people may not have been entirely excluded from bidding on contracts related to the JFK airport renovation, the news source added, since the agency also worked with Queens-based businesses — some of which may be owned by white men — awarding approximately 200 of them some $950 million in JFK-related contracts.

With $2.3 billion in contracts for MWBEs, the JFK renovation project surpasses New York’s previous record of $2.2 billion in public-private contracts with MWBEs set by those in charge of renovating nearby LaGuardia Airport.

The JFK renovation project is scheduled to be completed in 2028.

“The Port Authority is committed to supporting inclusiveness in the design, financing, construction and operation of our major redevelopment projects across the region by setting ambitious goals for MWBE participation,” Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole said.

Boston Uses Taxpayers’ Money to Fund Groups that Help Illegals

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) It was revealed that Boston started distributing more than half a million in grant funds for various services for illegal aliens, with much of the money going toward the organizations that explicitly oppose Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

On May 9, 2024, Democrat Mayor Michelle Wu announced $650,000 in grant money to support immigration-related legal services in the city, the press release stated. The grants will range from $10,000 to $100,000 and pay for Know Your Rights training, forms assistance, legal representation and other legal assistance for the illegals who are currently located inside Boston.

“Boston is a city of immigrants, and we all benefit from the contributions of immigrant communities in our neighborhoods. Our immigration system is nearly impossible to navigate alone, so I’m grateful to [the Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Advancement] and these organizations for helping our immigrant residents better access legal services and much-needed support,” Wu said.

However, some of the 13 organizations identified as grant recipients not only provide legal services but also directly work to oppose ICE, making publicly disparaging comments about the agency.

The Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition — which calls itself the largest pro-immigrant group in New England — opposes ICE detention agreements and publicly advocates for the Safe Communities Act.

The Student Clinic for Immigrant Justice, the organization that trains students to provide free representation to asylum seekers, is also listed as a grant recipient. The group previously posted several derogatory statements about ICE in the past, calling it an “institution designed to instill terror and cause suffering” and claiming 287(g) agreements are racist and xenophobic.

The Rian Immigrant Center which took part in public demonstrations against ICE enforcement and publicly touted state legislation that limits ICE’s ability to conduct its work was also identified as a grant recipient.

Wu’s press release also stated that the money being funneled to the organizations will come from Boston’s fiscal year 2024 budget and will be used through November.

Taxpayers Foot the Bill as Gov. Hochul Heads to Italy and Ireland

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Being New York’s governor certainly has its perks, especially when it comes to lavish trips, all funded by taxpayers.

Just ask Gov. Kathy Hochul. This week, she’s off to Italy and Ireland for meetings and conferences on climate and the economy.

First up, New York taxpayers are covering Hochul’s expenses for a 15-minute speech at the Vatican, where she’ll boast of her pro-climate policies, according to reports by the New York Post and Politico.

Following her Vatican trip, she will join Pope Francis at a climate-related conference hosted by the Pontifical Academies of Science and Social Science.

Seemingly making the most of her taxpayer-funded European trip, Hochul will then attend the 2024 Global Economic Summit in Ireland, running from May 20 to May 22.

Though the governor’s office remains mum on the trip’s total cost, they confirm it falls under her official duties.

“Governor Hochul is traveling on official business representing the State of New York in her official capacity as Governor, and therefore State funds will be used for official business,” a spokesperson told the Post.

“Any costs outside normal reimbursable business expenses will be paid for by the Governor’s own personal funds,” the spokesperson claimed.

Reportedly, Hochul’s last official trip was to Israel following the Hamas terrorist attack on Oct. 7.

In defense of her travels, the governor asserted that her goal is to “strengthen international connections that will create economic opportunities for New Yorkers and a cleaner future for the next generation.”

She added, “From fighting the climate crisis to harnessing the power of artificial intelligence, New York continues to lead the world with innovative solutions to global challenges.”
