Ryan Salame, Part of ‘Inner Circle’ at Collapsed Crypto Exchange FTX, Sentenced to Prison

(Headline USA) A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced former FTX executive Ryan Salame to more than seven years in prison, the first of the lieutenants of failed cryptocurrency mogul Sam Bankman-Fried to receive jail time for their roles in the 2022 collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange.

Salame, 30, was a high-ranking executive at FTX for most of the exchange’s existence and, up until its collapse, was the co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets. He pleaded guilty last year to illegally making unlawful U.S. campaign contributions and to operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business.

Along with helping Bankman–Fried hide the holes in FTX’s balance sheet that ultimately led to the exchange’s failure, Salame was used as a conduit for Bankman-Fried to make illegal campaign contributions to help shape U.S. policy on cryptocurrencies.

While Bankman–Fried and FTX funneled nearly $100 million to mostly Democrat candidates and causes, including dark-money organizations, during the 2022 election cycle, Salame notably donated $20 million in contributions to Republican campaigns in his own name.

Ultimately, though, the funds that Salame used for those contributions also came from Bankman–Fried, who is accused of greasing the wheels on both sides of the aisle to hedge himself against the possibility of investigation or accountability.

For a while, at least, the strategy appeared to work, until spooked FTX traders attempted to withdraw their funds as the exchange’s flaws began to show.

Salame’s sentence of 7½ years in prison, plus three years of supervised release, was more than the five to seven years prosecutors had asked radical leftist Judge Lewis A. Kaplan to impose on Salame in their pre-sentencing memo.

While Salame was a high-level executive at FTX, he was not a major part of the government’s case against Bankman–Fried at his trial earlier this year and did not testify against him.

In a bid for leniency, Salame said during the sentencing hearing that he cooperated and even provided documents that aided prosecutors in their cross examination of Bankman–Fried, as well as in his own prosecution.

Kaplan said Salame “knew precisely what he was doing … and the whole idea was to hide it from the world. Astonishing!”

The judge also chastised Salame for pulling $5 million in cryptocurrencies out of FTX as the exchange was failing.

“You tried to withdraw tens of millions more,” Kaplan said. “It was me first. I’m getting in the lifeboat first. To heck with all those customers.”

Salame apologized to FTX customers and his family, saying that he and others had good intentions, though he added: “I fully understand that the means I sought to achieve these goals were illegal.”

Before he was sentenced, Salame gave brief remarks saying he was “beginning my path to redemption.”

“I accept what’s next,” he said.

Three other high-level executives at FTX are awaiting sentencing for their roles in the exchange’s collapse: Caroline Ellison, who was CEO of the FTX hedge fund Alameda Research, Gary Wang, the co-founder of FTX, and Nishad Singh, FTX’s head of engineering.

All three cooperated with prosecutors and testified at trial against Bankman–Fried in exchange for potentially suspended prison sentences.

Woke Pope Apologizes after Using Italian Anti-Gay Slur

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Pope Francis issued a partial apology for his use of an Italian word that many LGBT people found offensive, ZeroHedge reported.

Francis’s use of the word “frociaggine,” which translates to “faggotry” in English, in a private setting had initially triggered significant backlash earlier this week.

The pope used the term in reference to the “faggotry” prevalent in Catholic seminaries, suggesting to some bishops that the church needed fewer gay men involved in its clergy.

Naturally, Francis’s message led to extended outrage from LGBT activists. He eventually capitulated to their pressure and issued an apology via a spokesman on Tuesday.

“In the Church there is room for everyone, for everyone!” Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, said on Francis’s behalf, emphasizing the openness of the Church.

“No one is useless, no one is superfluous, there is room for everyone,” he added. “Just as we are, everyone.”

The statement seemed to echo several recent policy shifts that the “woke pope” has decreed in support of allowing more transgender practice within the church.

Last year, he issued an encyclical in support of allowing transgender individuals to be baptized and to serve as godparents to baptized Catholics, although he stopped short of saying they could be the parents if they were same-sex couples living in gay-marriage relationships.

However, Francis also extended a blessing to same-sex unions, further confusing followers with respect to his mixed messaging.

Despite his overture of contrition, Francis’s apology seemed to be carefully worded to avoid expressing regret at the use of the word while still expressing regret that some were offended.

The statement suggested that “the Pope never intended to offend or express himself in homophobic terms,” noting that Francis “extends his apologies to those who felt offended by the use of the term.”

The mainstream media predictably went out of its way to interpret Francis’s words as “homophobic,” a word that was coined in 1972 by psychologist George Weinberg to describe fear of gay men as a psychological condition requiring treatment rather than a commonplace aversion to homosexuality.

Still, Pope Francis has given conservatives a long list of reasons to be skeptical of his leadership, through the years making numerous remarks disparaging conservatives for their refusal to adopt progressive ways.

Just two weeks ago, he elicited the outrage of many Catholics and non-Catholics alike by appearing to wade into U.S. politics during a 60 Minutes interview in which he explicitly attacked the conservative philosophy as “suicidal” and suggesting it was rooted in a refusal to grow and improve.

“Conservative is someone who clings to something and does not want to see beyond that,” he claimed.

Some critics observed that Francis seemed to be more worried about the conservative wing of the church more than he was about addressing pedophilia and sex scandals within it.

Other critics were more blunt, accusing the pope of apostasy and suggesting that Francis was working in tandem with the so-called Antichrist, who prophetically will help herald the Armageddon to usher in the end times.

GOP Lawmakers Slam Terrorist Treat Posed by Illegals after Attempted Quantico Breach

(Multiple members of Congress are demanding answers about the federal government’s ability to prevent a terrorist attack after two Jordanian nationals attempted to break into Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.

This is after concerns were raised about a Chinese national who recently breached a Marine Corps base in the El Centro CBP Sector after illegally entering the country, and after individuals identified as known or suspected terrorists (KSTs) are continuing to be apprehended at record numbers after illegally entering the country, the Center Square reported.

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, led a group of 12 Republican members of Congress demanding answers from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation about the Quantico breach, questioning if it constituted a terrorist attack. The letter was announced Tuesday and is dated May 23.

“A brazen attempt to infiltrate a military installation by foreign nationals from a terror-prone region rightly raises concerns as to whether this constituted a possible terrorist attack,” the House coalition said in a letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and FBI Director Christopher Wray. “Yet, the federal government has not disclosed whether this breach was terror-related.”

On May 3, two Jordanian male nationals attempted to breach the Marine Corps base using a box truck. They were eventually detained and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

It was later revealed that one illegally crossed the border last month and was released into the interior by Border Patrol agents. The other overstayed his student visa and was in the country illegally. One was identified as a KST.

“The American people deserve to know the scope of the threat posed by potential terror suspects, and the extent to which the open border policies of this administration are facilitating it,” the coalition said.

Joining Roy are Republican Reps. Andy Biggs and Paul Gosar of Arizona, Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Bob Good of Virginia, Mary Miller of Illinois, Barry Moore of Alabama, Ralph Norman of South Carolina, Andy Ogles of Tennessee, Tom Tiffany of Wisconsin, and Randy Weber of Texas.

Last week, a coalition of 12 U.S. senators demanded answers, led by Sen. Ted Budd, R-N.C., of Mayorkas and Wray.

“This deeply concerning incident occurred mere weeks after a Chinese national who was in the country illegally broke into Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms on March 27,” they said.

House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green, R-Tenn., and three other Republican committee chairmen also demanded answers from Mayorkas, Wray and Department of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. The committee is investigating the incident, they said, and is concerned about previous requests that remain unanswered.

In September 2023, Green and Texas Rep. August Pfluger—chairman of the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence—sent a letter to Mayorkas, Wray, and Austin requesting information about how the agencies were responding to possible breaches of U.S. military installations and critical infrastructure from the Chinese Communist Party.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Chinese nationals attempted to access U.S. military bases and other sensitive sites roughly 100 times in recent years.

DHS and the FBI “failed to provide any substantive response” to their request, they said.

In a November 2023 hearing, Mayorkas “repeatedly refused to answer when asked by Chairman Pfluger whether DHS continuously detains those found to be on the terrorist watchlist,” they said.

Most KSTs were apprehended by CBP and Border Patrol agents under the Biden administration, the Center Square has reported. This fiscal year, they total 277, after the greatest number in U.S. history was apprehended in fiscal 2023 of 736, the Center Square reported.

“The alarming conclusion from these numbers is every day we have individuals that are on the FBI terrorist watch list that could have an intention to harm our country and are entering every single day,” former Border Patrol Chief Mark Morgan told the Center Square.

“It’s not if or when the threat tries to come to our country. We already know that’s happening already,” he said, referring to the at least 2 million foreign nationals who illegally entered the country and evaded capture, some of whom may be KSTs. “The threat is already here.”

The attempted breach at MCB Quantico “reflects a possibly more dire reality for the state of U.S. national security,” Green’s coalition said.

DHS’s “relaxed vetting standards” have created “an environment ripe for exploitation by individuals aiming to undermine the United States at its most critical points,” said the group. “If individuals on the terrorist watchlist are so emboldened to attempt to breach a Marine Corps base, the Department of Homeland Security and the entire executive branch must act swiftly to identify, apprehend, and detain such hostile actors on American soil.”

Leftist Rioters Push Back on RNC’s Appeal to Relocate Protest Zone for Milwaukee Convention

() While Republican National Convention planners continue to push to move Milwaukee’s planned protest zone, protesters are angrily pushing back.

The Coalition to March on the RNC recently demanded the Secret Service leave the convention protest zone in Pere Marquette Park.

“The Republicans explicitly named the Coalition to March on the RNC, and extensively quoted the Coalition, as a significant security risk,” Coalition leaders said in a statement.

“The Coalition is called ‘disturbing,’ and the RNC obliquely claims it is inciting violence,” the group continued. “This is a disingenuous, cowardly position to take, and the Coalition condemns any and all attempts to paint us as violent or to infringe on our right to take the streets.”

RNC planners have written at least two letters and have had in-person meetings with the Secret Service about the protest zone and its proximity to the convention in July.

RNC planners worry the protest zone, a quarter mile from the convention, is too close to the convention. They also worry RNC delegates and visitors will have to walk past the protest zone to get into and out of the convention.

The Coalition angrily demanded the protest zone be left alone and blamed Republican leaders for any fear or potential violence.

“The Coalition has stated from the beginning that we intend to run a family friendly march in July, and our points of unity include ‘peace, justice, and equity for all,’” Coalition organizers claimed.

“Meanwhile, the Republicans are cheerleaders for murderers like Kyle Rittenhouse and regularly make cartoonishly racist and reactionary statements,” said the group, hinting that its leftist sentiments may favor the Antifa terrorists whom the teenage Rittenhouse shot in self-defense during the 2020 riots in Kenosha, Wisc.

“‘Hypocritical’ and ‘disingenuous’ are not sufficient to describe what is happening here,” it continued.

The Coalition proceeded to paint a false equivalence between the actions of radical leftist protests—which often have resulted in violence, vandalism, arson and other serious crimes—with the handful of examples when right-wing groups have responded in kind.

“The RNC wants to support violent, anti-democratic events like the January 6th insurrection, but trembles at the thought of thousands of people and families marching for peace, justice, and equity,” it claimed. “This is cowardly.”

The Secret Service, overseen by Janet Yellen’s Treasury Department, has said it doesn’t believe there needs to be a change in the security protocol.

Milwaukee will welcome the RNC on July 15-18.

Whistleblower: Fulton DA’s Office Misspent Federal Grant on ‘Computers, Travel and Swag’

() A whistleblower who worked in the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office says she was fired after raising concerns about the misuse of federal grant funds as part of a probe by the Georgia legislature.

Amanda Timpson worked with the office from 2018 until 2022 and served as the director of gang prevention and intervention under previous District Attorney Paul Howard.

Timpson told the state’s Senate Special Committee on Investigations she faced retaliation under District Attorney Fani Willis after raising concerns about how the office planned to spend a federal grant.

At issue is a more than $488,000 Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention grant the office received to assist its gang-prevention initiatives before Willis was elected in November 2020. In March 2021, the office’s new programs officer said he wanted to use the grant money for “computers, travel and swag,” Timpson told lawmakers.

“I continued to be persistent and to let … him and everybody else know that we could not spend the grant in that manner,” she said. “And he persisted to say that that was what we were going to do with the grant.”

Simply warning about the illegal misappropriation of funds brought backlash against her personally, Timpson said.

“…And I was just persistent in letting him know that that was not what we could do, and I noticed, as I persisted to let him know, that my treatment drastically started to change,” she alleged. “I just knew I had to stand my ground. Because I was … fearful of the misuse of funds.”

Timpson, who has filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the district attorney’s office, told lawmakers that after Willis was elected, the incoming prosecutor emailed current employees with a new organizational chart. Current employees were guaranteed an interview but not necessarily a job.

However, the Gang Prevention Unit had been abolished. Timpson interviewed for a job in December 2020 in front of a panel that included Nathan Wade and was hired as director of juvenile diversion.

Willis subsequently hired Wade as a special prosecutor on a case involving former President Donald Trump. Wade stepped down following a judge’s ruling, and Trump appealed a decision allowing Willis to stay on the case.

Timpson said Willis demoted her in July 2021 and fired her in January 2022 after Timpson spoke with the director of the Fulton County Office of Diversity and Civil Rights Compliance. Seven armed investigators escorted Timpson from the building, she said.

Jeff DiSantis, a spokesman for Willis’s office, did not respond to a request for comment on the claims.

Whether Willis will testify before the committee, created with the passage of Senate Resolution 465 and chaired by Sen. Bill Cowsert, R-Athens, remains to be seen.

In public remarks, the prosecutor has alleged the committee is racially motivated, but Republicans seem determined to make her testify.

“If subpoenaed by the Committee, she will be required to appear or she will be in violation of Georgia law,” Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, a Republican, said in a statement earlier this month. “This is what treating everybody evenly looks like, even if DA Willis doesn’t like being held accountable.”

Separately, a judge has barred Willis from investigating Jones, though a special prosecutor has been appointed. The Special Committee on Investigations is expected to meet next at the end of June.

ICE Holding Closed-Door Talks w/ NYC Mayor Adams on Limiting ‘Sanctuary’ Status

() New York City Mayor Eric Adams is reportedly in talks with federal immigration officials about limiting the city’s “sanctuary” policies to help stem an ongoing surge of illegal immigrants.

Ken Genalo, the city’s regional field director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has been meeting with the Adams administration to discuss the city’s strict rules preventing local law enforcement from cooperating with immigration crackdowns, according to the New York Post, which says the two sides are “making progress” in the closed-door negotiations.

“I’ve been working with the mayor’s office, I have had dialogue with them,” Genalo told the newspaper. “I give them kudos—the prior administration under Mr. de Blasio … there was no dialogue at all.”

Genalo told the Post that he was pushing for the city to amend its sanctuary policy, allowing local law enforcement to honor more ICE detainer requests. He said that would give ICE deportation officers more time to apprehend individuals held by local authorities instead of waiting until they are released into the communities to arrest them.

Over the past two years, New York City has seen an influx of more than 160,000 illegals—most exploiting a loophole that allows them to stay while having their asylum claims adjudicated—amid a historic surge prompted by the Biden administration’s open-border policies.

The city spent $1.45 billion in fiscal year 2023 on illegal immigrant costs and expects to spend $10 billion over the next two fiscal years, according to the Adams administration.

Adams and law enforcement officials have cited shootings, shoplifting rings and even assaults on NYPD officers as examples of alleged crimes being committed by migrants, which has sparked public criticism that the influx of new arrivals are bringing criminals with them.

To be sure, Adams has been more open than other New York City Democrats to changing the sanctuary policy and right-to-shelter law to dissuade more illegals from seeking refuge in the city.

In April, Adams said the city’s sanctuary status should be changed to allow immigrants charged with crimes to be turned over to federal immigration officials for deportation to help weed out the “small numbers” of those who commit major crimes.

Last year, Adams set a 60-day limit on the length of stay in city-run homeless shelters but has also been seeking to relocate migrants to other regions of the state.

He later reduced that to 30 days for adults, which was met with pushback and legal challenges from local officials. In March, Adams reached an agreement with homeless and immigration advocates to finalize the changes.

Under New York’s right-to-shelter law, the city must provide emergency housing to anyone who requests it, regardless of their immigration status.

Republicans have long said New York City’s sanctuary policies are encouraging asylum seekers to resettle in the city amid the surge of immigration.

REPORT: Trump Wants to ‘Throw’ Radical Student Protesters ‘Out of the Country’

(Headline USA) Former President Donald Trump reportedly told donors this month that he wants to “throw” radical student protesters “out of the country” if he is elected this November.

“One thing I do is [with] any student that protests—I throw them out of the country” Trump told the group during a May 14 roundtable, according to the Washington Post.

Specifically, he seemed to be referring to the revocation of student visas for those who were not U.S. citizens.

“You know, there are a lot of foreign students—as soon as they hear that, they’re going to behave,” Trump said.

Several Republicans have argued for the federal government to revoke the student visas of foreign students studying in the U.S. if they have been proven to have participated in the protests as well as proposals to revoke any student loan amnesty for those who are U.S. citizens.

Earlier this month, for example, House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, urged the Biden administration to investigate whether the student protesters violated U.S. law.

“The Immigration Nationality Act says if a student is here on a visa, and they’re engaged in activity that is against the law, they’re not supposed to be here,” Jordan said. “The visa is supposed to be taken away.”

Trump reportedly described the anti-Israel encampments that have erupted on campuses across the country as a “radical revolution,” and argued that they are just as anti-America as they are anti-Israel.

“It has to be stopped now,” he said.

In a statement this week, Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt blasted President Joe Biden for empowering the student protesters but did not confirm whether Trump plans to revoke the student visas of foreign students who participated in the protests.

“Joe Biden has sided with radical leftist Democrats like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Talib and empowered antisemitic protestors destroying our college campuses and threatening to undermine our democracy,” Leavitt said. “President Trump will side with Jewish Americans and American citizens, period, and he will not tolerate terrorist sympathizers on our college campuses.”

Biden’s Former Border Chief Blasts Admin For Open Border Policies

(Headline USA) President Joe Biden’s former border chief blasted the administration recently for opening the southern border, accusing the president of doing so knowingly.

During a 60 Minutes interview in March, former Customs and Border Protection chief Raul Ortiz said the Biden administration sent mixed messages to illegal immigrants about whether they would be welcome at the border.

This led to the massive influx of illegals the country has experienced over the past four years, he said.

“We need to make sure that Central America, South America, Mexico, that those regions understand that if you pay a smuggler and you cross in between the ports of entry and you do not have a legitimate claim to some sort of asylum benefit, you’re gonna be sent back,” Ortiz said.

As Sky News Australia recently reported, Ortiz also said Biden never bothered to communicate with him or other border officers about the crisis – even as it continued to worsen.

“I’ve never had one conversation with the president. Or the vice president, for that matter,” Ortiz said. “And so I was the chief of the border patrol. I commanded 21,000 people. That’s a problem.”

Ortiz went on to blast Texas Gov. Greg Abbott as well for not cooperating with border agents in his efforts to control the flow of illegal immigration into his state.

“When agencies are making a decision based upon politics or whether they’re gonna get media coverage, hey, we’re gonna put all our personnel in this two-mile stretch. What about the other 200 miles?” Ortiz said.

For his part, Abbott has defended his decision to rely on Texas law enforcement and the state’s National Guard for border security, arguing the Biden administration’s border agencies have been instructed to continue letting illegal immigrants into the country.

In a letter to Biden last year, Abbott wrote, “You must fully enforce the laws of the United States that prohibit illegal immigration between ports of entry. In the meantime, Texas will fully utilize its constitutional authority to deal with the crisis you have caused. Texas will see you in court, Mr. President.”

Tech Firm Fined $38.5K for ‘Whites-Only’ Job Listing Posted by Disgruntled Indian Recruiter

(Headline USA) A northern Virginia-based tech company is paying $38,500 to settle claims that it discriminated by posting a job listing seeking white, U.S.-born candidates for an opening as a business analyst.

Ironically, it says the offensive listing was posted vindictively by an employee who was neither white nor U.S. born.

The Justice Department announced Thursday that it had reached a settlement agreement with Arthur Grand Technologies, an information technology firm in Ashburn, Virginia.

The company listed a business analyst job online in March 2023, specifically seeking “Only Born US Citizens (White) who are local within 60 miles from Dallas, TX (Don’t share with candidates).”

“It is shameful that in the 21st century, we continue to see employers using ‘whites only’ and ‘only US born’ job postings to lock out otherwise eligible job candidates of color” said woke Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s civil rights division in a statement. “I share the public’s outrage at Arthur Grand’s appalling and discriminatory ban on job candidates based on citizenship status, national origin, color and race.”

In the settlement agreement, the company said the ad was “generated by a disgruntled recruiter in India and was intended to embarrass the company,” and that it never intended to dissuade non-citizens from applying.

Arthur Grand did not return a call and email Tuesday seeking comment.

The settlement includes a $7,500 penalty to settle a Justice Department investigation and $31,000 as part of a settlement with the Labor Department to compensate individuals who filed complaints alleging they were discriminated against by the advertisement.

The agreement also requires Arthur Grand to train its personnel on the requirements of the federal hiring and discrimination laws and revise its employment policies.

In 2019, another northern Virginia tech firm, Cynet Systems, apologized after posting an online ad seeking “preferably Caucasian” applicants for an account manager job in Florida.

Top Dems Are ‘Freaking Out’ about Biden Losing to Trump

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) People at the highest levels of the Democratic Party expressed their fear of Joe Biden losing to Donald Trump almost right before the 2024 election, with even officeholders and strategists who were confident about Biden defeating Trump not being so sure anymore.

“You don’t want to be that guy who is on the record saying we’re doomed, or the campaign’s bad or Biden’s making mistakes. Nobody wants to be that guy,” a Democratic operative in close touch with the White House and granted anonymity to speak freely told Politico.

The operative then said that Biden’s extreme unpopularity and the stakes of the election “are creating the freakout.”

“This isn’t, ‘Oh my G-d, Mitt Romney might become president.’ It’s ‘Oh my G-d, the democracy might end,'” the far-left ideologue said.

The adviser to major Democratic Party donors also wasn’t very optimistic about the current situation.

“Donors ask me on an hourly basis about what I think. [It is] so much easier to show them, so while they read it, I can pour a drink,” the adviser said, adding that the “list of why we ‘could’ win is so small I don’t even need to keep the list on my phone.”

However, people working for the Biden campaign have nothing better to do than try to look at the current political prospects of their boss through rose-colored glasses.

“Trump’s photo-ops and PR stunts may get under the skin of some very serious D.C. people as compelling campaigning, but they will do nothing to win over the voters that will decide this election,” Biden campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz said.

Biden supporters and other smaller-scale Democrats in politics also try to be optimistic, with some of them saying that people would vote for Biden to be able to continue murdering unborn babies and Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Mich., calling abortion “a fundamental game-changer.”

“We have to run a campaign, where honestly, we drive home the message that Donald Trump takes us back to the 19th century. Biden takes us further into the 21st century,” Kildee said.
