Ongoing Border Fiasco Overshadowed by Biden’s Other Failures

'I would say it's worse than even we anticipated... '

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) One of candidate Joe Biden‘s many promises on the campaign trail was the reversal of President Donald Trump‘s immigration policies. But, it has been a year since Biden took office and he has failed to deliver, the Washington Examiner reported.

The lack of action in this particular area has disappointed liberals everywhere, resulting in further declining popularity for Slidin’ Biden.

Biden failed to rescind Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” program for asylum seekers, continued to deport illegal immigrants in the midst of the pandemic and failed to resolve problems in Central America that drive immigrants to the United States.

Biden’s approval ratings on his handling of immigration have plummeted from 55% to 35% in the span of a month, according to RealClearPolitics.

This has caused a rift between Biden and his voting base, many of whom want the southern border to be more open. On the other side of the aisle, the policies that Biden has managed to push through have not been well received.

“We said this would be the most radical policy changes in immigration—before he even took office. And they were very effective, very quickly,” said Lora Ries, the senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation in Washington. “I would say it’s worse than even we anticipated.”

In his first week as president, Biden did rescind several of Trump’s border policies and plans, including stopping funding for a border wall and promising an “improved” asylum system. He also ordered a 100 day halt on deportations.

Before they could make any major changes, Biden and his team were met by record numbers of illegal border crossings.

In response to this surge, the administration was forced to choose either Trumpian enforcement at the border or fulfilling the warnings of GOP congressmen, who knew Biden’s open-borders policies could only make things worse.

The Biden administration chose both, angering Democrats and Republicans.

The result of straddling these policies has been a flood of illegal immigrants pushing their way across the border, record-high numbers of detainment, jailed noncitizens waiting for years for their court dates, and deadlock in congress.
